How strong is the Chelsea squad now?

Has the transfer window closed already? It almost feels like you're in a supermarket, you've got money, you've found the beer but you see the lights going off and you rush to the billing counter and hear a polite voice telling you 'sorry sir, the counter is closed'. At least, I'd run to the nearest shop that is open but as far as Chelsea is concerned all shops are closed for 4 months and we need to manage with the limited supplies we've got. For me, the disappointment was more from the fact that we didn't land a Modric or a player in the mould of Modric. I truly believed that Modric will arrive on the last day but he didn't. With Arry constantly bickering that Luka's head is not in the right place, I did think that Spurs may not want to keep an unhappy player. Look at Arteta. Big player for Everton. He said he wanted to leave and he was bid only for £10m. He was allowed to go because Moyes and Kenwright didn't want an unhappy player despite the fact that he's their key player and has been around for more than 6 seasons. Read More »

Chelsea 3-1 Norwich | Lukaku Matata!

What a day! The scoreline doesn't tell you the whole story. This turned out to be a difficult match. Norwich at home - how can this be a difficult match? But it was. Too many nervy moments. After Norwich equalised, our suspect defence and goalkeeping meant, the game's not going to over until we score the third goal. And thankfully, we did score that thrid goal - get in, Juan Mata! Last season, I had written a lot about the mentality of the team that went through the 'bad moments' and the need to bring in people who didn't go through that phase so there's a new thought, approach and mindset. That's what we saw with Juan Mata and Lukaku. Both debutants played only for 20 mins but they brought such freshness to our play. And honestly, they even made the rest look better. Seven points from the first three games of the season is a good return. Nine would have been better but honestly the way we are playing, we could be sitting at three or five points. Results-wise, decent start to the league. Performance-wise, we definitely need to improve. But I must say, having seen Mata and Lukaku, and with Romeu and Josh still to be used, we're still after a couple of players - I fell quite confident about Chelsea's immediate and long term future. Pre-season Over | All set for 2011/12

Great end to the pre-season. This is how it reads - WWWWWW - you like it, don't you? For me, Andre's been right on the money so far. Won his games, we've started playing well as a unit, he's given opportunities to youngsters, he's getting Torres to blossom, he's signed a couple of players, and he's still in the market for probably one biggie. He's ticking all the boxes, as it stands now. Good game today. Yeah we conceded a goal but that's okay. It was a very good win in the end. Rangers are already a few weeks into their league season and ours is yet to begin but we dominated them throughout the match. Sturridge once again showed why he could have helped us last season. He was sharp as ever as he scored two very well taken goals. Love him or hate him, you just have to admire Malouda's involvement in our goal scoring opportunities. He's been selfish at times and he's been attrocious too. Sometimes you wonder if he knows that Torres plays for Chelsea and he's on the pitch.
