FC Copenhagen 0-2 Chelsea | Relief . . .
A comfortable win, finally. I haven’t had this feeling in a long while. Not even in the 4-2 win against Sunderland. This match against Copenhagen was under our control from the first minute. FCK did try their best they couldn’t match up to the experienced opponents.
We started with a 4-4-2, with Torres and Anelka upfront. I said this in BC Shout before the kick off too – I was pleased that Drogba was dropped and Carlo chose Anelka and Torres. That’s the right thing to do. Now, he only needs to extend this to every single position in the team.
This was a much better performance from Torres. He couldn’t find the net despite getting some really good chances. But what I was impressed was how well he played with his new team mates. Lampard was able to find Torres very often . The chemistry between Torres and Anelka was decent, much better than the one between Torres and Drogba. Probably, that was also because Torres is improving.
For me, the biggest pluses from the match were these: (a) Drogba didn’t start and we still won 2-0 (b) Torres’ performance was very promising. It’s only a matter of time before he starts scoring (c) Lampard was very much in the game, created quite a few opportunities including the smart assist for the game winner (d) the tie is over unless we are first grade masochists.
Good performance all around. It’s easy to say, this was only FC Copenhagen and that helped us. While there’s truth in it, let’s not be in some illusion that we were struggling only against the top teams. We have been struggling against ALL teams in the premier leauge – from No.1 to No.20. Therefore, a good result or an impressive performance against Copenhagen is not a small thing.
I’m wiser now though. I’m not going to say ‘we’ve turned the corner’ or ‘we’re back’ or some optimistic slogans. We’ve said this a few times this season and we’ve been proved wrong. But I will only have to wait for a week. Next Tuesday, we play Man Utd. Unlike before, this game is not crucial for our title run anymore. But it’s very important for us to gather these points and get to third place and gain an automatic champions league spot, or in a worst case scenario, get the fourth place.
The key is if Chelsea can continue this momentum. Can Carlo motivate Chelsea enough for the Man Utd game? How much confidence will Chelsea have when they face Man Utd? If Fergie wants a draw, would we force a win or complain about the opponents’ tactics like losers? We will wait to see.
We are still alive. I had this thought before the game and I maintain it. Now I want to see my players do this again, again, again.
Thanks Carlo. The thing is, YOU hold the key!
BC ,a great win in the circumstances when we were struggling against everybody
Great win, can’t wait to see Torres on the score sheet. Chelsea is getting back to life n we’ve to stay alive for the rest of the season. Go Chelsea Go!!!!!!
i saw the match and i loved every bit of our game play…even my girlfriend that doesn’t know much about football was really impressed and considering the fact that yesterday was my Birthday again….it made me go over the moon…i hope they can keep up this excellent good work and not falter as we all know they can…KTBFFH and stay blessed y’all!
What a match!! It’s easy to tell that Torres is going to bury one soon!

Great result …I am happy with the result but not with ther peorfrmance … I read an interview from Carlo, he said he wants same perofrmance against United. with that perofrmance we will not win anything against United ….
1. Both our goals came from the speed of our striker againstslow Copenhagen defenders [ do not forget Copenhagen is in winter break, it is like MLS team be happy for beating Chelsea in summer] ….
2. So many posession loss in middle of field, big teams punish you for these mistakes …
Chelsea needs to improve, I watched Real Vs Lyon … their quality was much higher than Chelsea … they passed faster … they were tactically perfect …
We won against Copenhgane because our players were individually better than Copenhgagen , not because we were tactically superier ….
Torres was great … our defensive line was great ….
Essien, and Lampard are not ready .. they seem ready because they are playing against weak team ….
Great to win and see Anelka firing…who has been good recently…Torres did well and will be in the goals soon and maybe we have some luck now…as the danes did not play for 2.5 months and training games at the end of the day are no substitute for the real thing…now for united and for sir who will set up in defense and play on the counter and try to brong their fullbacks into it…for us I would stick to the 4.4.2 which means Drog out again but throw on Luiz as the more holding midfielder..essien for ramirez…and switch ramirez for malouda over to the left..and practise our set pieces which need more variety…
Congrats BC I’m very happy on your behalf. You and ChelseaDaft both official bloggers on chelseafc.com.
Gattuso also hinted UEFA’s punishment had been harsh on him, adding: “At least they didn’t throw me in jail for a month.” …well if he did that on the street it is assault and a criminal offense and in some places it is jail…but drogba complains about the referee who he was right about and gets 6 weeks which tells you a lot about eufa and how they have their favourites land push certain teams to get to finals
Last night’s win was a clinical one. The only pain and disappointment I felt was when I read the team news, no Drogba? :(
He being dropped to the bench whenever Torres is available to play is a clear cut sign that he’s not going to be with us for long. . . To some extent its right to play Drogba and Torres separately as they both are the players that like to win the match for the team on their own. But what Chelsea is today, is partly because of Drogba. . . In the liverpool game it was too early to judge whether Torres and Drogba can work together or not. I think if someone has to go in the summer to make room, it should be Mikel.
But everything aside last night’s win will give us momentum against United and I hope we can pull off a win!
KTBFFH!
Congratulations BC…it is a big achievement…this is the best blog for me….KTBFFH!
I wanted Nico to score a hat trick and i wanted Torres to play the full time….Carlo did the opposites and i didn’t like it! I still don’t like Carlo for letting the FA Cup go and his tactics are so predictable! It is just that the players are saving him…he miss on the Champions League and he will be kicked out! I want Guss Hiddink!
