I’m not in some kind of campaign against Carletto. Let me make it very clear that I want him to continue as the coach of Chelsea FC and lead us to more trophies including his third champions league title. Now, let’s get to the topic on hand. We have officially conceded the title. No, it’s not in the daily mail or in the weekly tripe. It’s in the official Chelsea FC website. Here is the quote:
It is difficult to think we can come back to fight for the title. It is better to think game by game in the Premier League. It is difficult to close the gap, we have to be honest, but the most important step now is to reach fourth place in the table and we have to fight with the other teams.
Well, I would call it pragmatic than defeatist but at least he could have put up a brave face to the press. See I’m terribly upset with our performances but it’s hard for me to accept that we’re out of the title race. We have said a few times now that we’re out of the title race but when you hear it from the manager of the club, it smacks you real hard. Carlo sounds like Rafa Benitez dammit!
In defence of Carlo (before WXWAX comes up with a counter-post :), the gap is too much. We’ve got only 12 games to go. We need to see too many things happening in our favour for us to retain our title. To say it’s not going to be easy is a massive understatement. To say that we will still win the title is delusional. While I know the reality, which is that we’re out of the title race, for some reason, I myself don’t want to believe in it.
Unless it’s mathematically impossible, the supporter’s mind just doesn’t give up. Call me crazy, even when it becomes mathematically impossible, I’ve even thought of ‘what if they’re punished for some irregularities and docked points’. I don’t think we’re such an impossible situation after all. If the last weekend had gone in our favour, we might have said that we’re back in the race.
This weekend, opportunity could knock our doors once more. If Man City beat Man Utd today and if we win our game against Fulham, we could be back in contention if we do the double on Man Utd. That’s a lot of ifs there but that’s how it is now. If Wolves can beat Man Utd, Liverpool can beat Chelsea, Man City can certainly beat Man Utd. If it does happen and after (not if) we beat Fulham, we’d have cut the gap to 7 points. And then a double on Man Utd, it’s down to 1 point. Then we’re expecting Man Utd to slip once in the 10 other games left. Certainly possible? Yes, if all IFs come together for us.
With Carlo saying that dreadful line on ‘reaching the fourth place’, I wonder how much effort will be offered by the players. Even when we were in the title race, I was doubting the efforts of some of our players and also our manager. With us officially targeting for the fourth place, I’m slightly worried.
Some might say, though he has said so, we’d still fight for the title. In that case, why tell the media this. Some of these things are psychological. The more you keep saying that you want to be champions, you’ll actually get closer to it. The moment you utter the ‘fourth place’ thing, you’re pschologically switched off. I wish he had said that we’re in the race until it’s mathematically impossible. I wish he’d said that with our new signings, we’ll have a go at the title. I wish he’d said that the champions league fixtures and results will have an impact on the title race and other teams could drop points. I wish he’d not said about the whole fourth place thing.
I’ve said enough. Now I’m going to pretend like he didn’t say a word about this. I want Man City to beat Man Utd today and I want us to thump Fulham and announce to the premier league ‘Don’t fuckin’ write us off’.

Carlo is actually right but he shouldnt have said it in the press. There is hope still for Chelsea. But we need to be careful about our performances.Concentrating solely on Champions League will hamper our chances of being in top four. But I dont think that will happen , because our squad is big and strong enough to cope. And I dont see Man Utd coping with 3 fixtures in 7 days.
Everything would be fine at the end of the season. The January signings will definitely have an impact on the end of season result. Before these signings we were in danger on finishing out of Champions League places, not doing well in Champions League. But its become much better now and I am sure we will do well soon.
Cheers. We will win something at end of season .Dont worry
I think you’re completely wrong – It’s time the players realise that if they don’t fight for every point left this season, they may well end up finishing lower than 4th! The title is gone – whether you like it or not – but the Champions League and FA Cup are very much there and we should make sure the players minds are completely focussed on winning these comps and ensuring we finish 4th at worst!
Lizidking,
Fair. I thought we have a team that can be motivated instead of being threatened. Anyway, why tell the press? I thought we could still keep our opponents under pressure. Why give up and concede so publicly?
BC.
Inasmuchas i wouldn’t agree to Carlo leaving, i still belive he is a dunce. His statement just confirms that.
I don’t understand why we’re so threatened or scared. I think that it is a given that Chelsea will end up atleast in fourth place. Maysam, I didn’t say that Chelsea should buy Kaka I’m just telling you they’re setting up a bid of GBP 25m for the man. Me personally, I don’t know wheather or not we should buy him. I think that if we can get him for GBP 10m then yes we should buy him.; LOL cheers!
I AGREEE 100%. Go Chelsea!
he want chelsea play without pressure just it…
you are 100% right….you are what you believe in and if carlo believes we cant be champions…then we cant be champions…..i wished he never conceded so easily and especially not to the press….maybe he hasn’t heard of the saying….NEVER SAY NEVER!
my concern is the only team u’re calculatng for is man utd. if man slump 10point, will man city and arsenal slump too
for us to retain the title. lets be realistic, carlo is right.
Ancelotti’s quite smart………remember last time against fergie…he said something of the sort……….mind games………..now tht he’s written us off the media won’t bother us and they’ll b like lets change our focus to citeh and arsenal and tottyham………..now tht he’s got rid of their attention he can build his team…..not the one he got from mourinho……but his team………………..he’s a tactical genius(save for the last match against liverpool where he shudve known tht a 4-4-2 never works against a 3-5-2…tht kinda actully surprised me tht he stuck with it)…….but nevertheless he’s a genius and he knows the game………..now tht we’re pretending we can begin solidifying our weaknesess………….
I think Paremal has got a valid point. Carlo may very well be playing mind games, so as to take the constant media attention off us.
paremal,
Well, that’s because only Man Utd are consistent and drop points that easily. The other teams are sure to drop points. As we speak, Man Utd is all set to win the derby :(
“Now for us it is difficult to think that we can come back and fight for the Premier League title. The gap is very big, we have to be honest.
The most important thing is to reach fourth place in the table to maintain Chelsea in the Champions League and we have to fight with the other teams.
It is better for us to take it game by game in the Premier League but we have to reach fourth place as a minimum.”
The sounds of a loser talking. Pathetic.
I told you 5 weeks ago, EPL is gone. I do not know why you always think United should drop points then we have chance , No
United should drop points, City should dropp, Arsenal should drop, Tottenham should dropp and we have to win all , having hope to win EPL is like, I expect my grandfather to show up in Christmass while he died 20 years ago ….
I believe we will be among top 4, it is hard because we have to play agianst United twice but I feel we will be among top four….
Ancelotti is goner, he should go, not because we are not on top of the league because some games we lost because of his wrong decisions … wrong line-ups …
My choices for manager:
if we do not qualify for CL, bring Martin O’neil …
if we do qualify, Harry Redknapp or Guardiola or Van Gal ….
It is a massiv disapponiting keeping Carlo Ancelotti next season …
United lost to Hull, look how they played today … Liverpool lost but they came back righ after that … we lost and it took 3 months to come back [ not yet] these all show we have a weak manager …
Lads, quit worrying about what Ancelotti has said about the ”fourth place finish” being our aim. As BC and some of you pointed out, what’s said to the media can be quite different to what’s being said in the dressing room. And it works both ways !
One scenario could be that Ancelotti would speak to the media and news agencies about us still being in the title till the bitter end, while in the dressing room the mood and behaviour of the players would be diametrically opposite to that. The other side of that coin would then be that Ancelotti writes us off in front of the media, but we still believe we can fight for the title in the dressing room.
I think it’s the second scenario we have in front of us and I’ll tell you why:
Ancelotti has noticed that the pressure of retaining the title has gotten to our players. This, coupled with our ”bad moment” and the negative press that is associated with it, could be detrimental to team spirit and aspirations. By using the clever technique of getting the attention away from us, Ancelotti is allowing our squad to work silently in order to accumulate a couple of points here and there before the big games, when the media attention is inevitable. These ‘smaller fixtures’ are a perfect time for our new signings to gel into the team and once that happens, the partnership of Torres and Drogba can be lethal even against defences like those of Man City and United.
Ancelotti is being clever. Remember, our ”bad moment” started around the time Mancini stated publicly that the title was ”Chelsea’s” in mid-October ! Mind-games are always essential in the big leagues and I’m glad Ancelotti knows how to play them.
KTBFFH !!
Can´t blame Ancelotti in this case. When players play without passion, and when club was reluctant to instill new objectives and passion into the team, such results were inevitable. I´m happy though that club made some new exciting young signings. I´d keep my word like in earlier posts, keep the CL spot and build the team that can play next season. And we need to do this starting from defence to strikers. Players we can sell at the end of the season are Bosingwa, and Mikel. And need to seek replacements for Terry and Lampsy too. My heart aches when i say this, but their time has come. Its time for new era.
i am giving up on ancelotti already.
i have never seen chelsea players playing without passion on permanent basis like this.
his tactics against liverpool was questionable. 3 strikers(1 new guy) against 5 defenders. no wingers. hard to accept.
anyway.. never thought highly of ancelotti after the instanbul incident :-p
I don’t mind if Carlo is being honest. He just doesn’t think that the other Premier league clubs can beat Man. Utd. That is so sad, considering how weak the Man. Utd squad is at this moment in time. I don’t blame Carlo for speaking his mind. Fact is, he’s been honest with us since day one and I don’t expect that to change. It’s funny how Madrid is seven points behind Barca and the title race isn’t over in Spain. So maybe just maybe there’s still a chance and if we can’t win the league then lets try to do one better and finish second at best. cheers!
maysam,
I agree, we are not in a great position at all. But hey what can we do? Pep is not gonna leave the best team in the world currently and join us, and I’m not sure if Martin has what it takes to be a top flight manager, specially at Chelsea. I frankly don’t know who would be a good option. I would suggest Didier Deschamps, perhaps with Desailly as his assistant. I think that would be somewhat manageable. Even Eric Gerets would be good. I would say Allan Curbishely would be a good assistant too, he is always spot on during the break at Setatanta.
If we fail to defeat Fulham, then it will be too difficult to be in the first four. Tottenham won and now above us in the table. Also I feel that there is something wrong in the dressing room as we are playing below our standard.
These are plastic fans on this blog! Also Chelsea is not in the same position as Man. Utd. we don’t have the english contingent that is needed. cheers!
Okay, i will make this short and sweet.
Here we have fans from all over the world. We all have different minds and passions but one thing we share is a love for Roman Abramovich Play Set. Why must we focus on what is said by websites with journalist who write retarded stories. Why also must we focus so hard on what our manager said? Hold what you are going to say, those are rhetorical. So Carlo said something that THE WHOLE UNIVERSE ON FOOTBALL KNOWS IS TRUE! You say he shouldn’t have said it? What difference would it have made? I understand your passion to fight even when you know you can’t get back up and try anything to get it done. Here is something for you.
Do not build skyscrapers on water.
You may say we have a chance but so does everyone else. Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspurs are not going to just drop points like that. Even if that somehow happened, what really makes you think we can take all the 3 points avaliable to us?
Here is another thing. Do not think we have such high chances in UCL or FA Cup because look at it this way. You may say, the players know they don’t have a chance anymore, and are justing going to try insanely hard in UCL. It doesn’t work that way. Look at how other teams look at us now. They used to be afraid, now they are filled with confidence knowing if he can do it so can I.
Here is another thing. Do not expect so much from a signing or a player who came back from injury. It was amazing what people expected from Lampard as soon as he came back. I mean really?
We have 2 options. Concede defeat like an intelligent person. Or continue fighting like an idiot.
N.B. 90% of the time idiots win.
I’m not seeing this as a big deal. (Surprise, surprise! :) )
The team is going to have to fight for fourth place. Spurs winning today just confirms it. It’s not like they can slack off and still qualify for the Champions League next season.
So Chelsea still have to play hard every single game, it seems to me.
For this reason, I see no practical impact from his comments.
I can’t for a moment believe that this was a league that we were leading by 8-10 points and were suppose to be running away with. Now we don’t mind if Carlo talks to the media about reaching the fourth place. Look how our expectations have been brought down.
Looks like we need to be prepared for the worst too. Imagine what could happen if Man Utd do the double over us.
Total lack of pride and conviction is what bothers me!
xerxesk,
Yes, he does. Everyone has a price [if we qualify to CL of course] do not underestimate Martin
It’s important to reach 4th place ?
I think he should’ve said it’s imperative to qualify for next year’s CL and do well against the big teams .
And then focus resources to what is doable.
We might be out of the race but you don’t give the opposition a free kick saying you think you are out of it…any good manager would have been playing mind games with the opposition putting seeds of doubt into them rather than seeds of encouragement..he made a big mistake saying something when he should have kept it as a thought…it reflects on the team which at times doesn’t always show a great deal of fight…would Mourinho have said it, no way…personally I think he will not be there next year…tactically over cautious..unimaginative..needed to be firmer with players not reward lack of effort or continual bad performances with continual playing time…and went into the season with an understregth squad which he kept on telling us would cope and succeed with the youngsters..ha…personally I think the hunt has started for an young coach with revolutionary ideas with great man management skills …and a proven background as a winner….Barcelona might be a good place to start the search!
This a just a team of underperforming players….there are wholesale changes which need to be made irrespective of where finish at the end of the season.
1. get rid of this disgusting mikel…….the guy sucks all the way to the core…..he has to be discarded somewhere.
2. its time for drogba to depart….and my advice to him would be to pack his bags for marseille maybe…his fragile performances are costing us a champions league spot let alone wining the title……..tired of his malaria bout shit…
3. honestly speaking, if anything more than 25m is offered for essien……I would happily sell him…..the bloke has looked out of sorts……absolutely error prone……no drive going forward….gets easily muscled away…..he has lost the desire and the appetite to play for chelsea fc…..maybe he has passed his prime days and he now needs a new challenge…
4. bosingwa…..injury prone player…not good enough for chelsea…..was a waste of 18m the day he signed for chelsea…..did a decent job when he was new….had some inpact going forward……but its time to recoup some money that we wastefully spent on him…..i hear munich wants him…..hope chelsea sens a fax to them informing them about their availability.
5. zhirkov….another waste of 18m quid…..still dunt know whats the best position for him….he needs a womens league in order to cal himself a successfull player…..reportedly some russian team wanted him……anything above 15m and he is all yours…..
get rid of the DEAD WOOD at this club before we can think of going forward…
Here’s Frank Lampard of Chelsea and the league title. This is from an interview yesterday:
Now, this is a good mix of pragmatism and hope. There’s at least a desire. He still is talking about the possibilities of winning the title. I’m happy. Do you think John Terry would say that “it is important to reach the fourth place”?
BC, the quote from Super Frank just highlights my point even more:
The dressing room still has that winning mentality and I’m sure Carlo is a part of it. He just doesn’t want that public negativity that surrounds us every time there is expectation of winning at the club. It’s called being deceptive. I think Carlo is smart enough to be deceptive, doesn’t take a tactical mastermind to do it, just someone can play with words =D
After Scolari got sacked, everyone knew that it would take something special for us to reenter the title race and that we were all but out of it. Then the Golden Guus arrived and he didn’t make a big fuss about. All he said was that he was there to stabilize the club, qualify of next seasons Champions League and gather as many points as possible. We weren’t under the glare of the media until around the time we faced Barcelona in the Champions League (partly due to the war of words between Fergie and Benitez). Apart from the tactical genius that is Guus Hiddink, we have to thank the low media profile we kept around that time for our resurrection.
Trust me, I think Carlo knows what he’s doing. And it could well save our season.
KTBFFH !!
But Frank, none of the big players have stood up, they have faded into the back ground like miserable little wall flowers at a school prom.
Carlo given up the dream of the EPL title and the players continue dreaming. That really speaks volumes. Clearly there’s no togetherness and team spirit.
However I would like Lampard and the other big players to play the game and not talk the talk by showing the winning mentality that can save this season from becoming one of the worst for many many years.
Here is Cristiano RONALDO talking about Real Madrid’s chances. This is what I call the champions’ mentality and mindset. Whether you win or not is another matter. What matters is how much you believe in it.
STURRIDGE . SCORES . AGAIN .
Guys for me carlo is doomed !! fcuking 4th place.. that would mean chelsea would have to start the season very early…. playing qualifiers.. do you know what that does to ones season.. worst with carlo.. he wont rotate the squad….. that would mean very tired legs… mid way through the season!!!… remember pool.. gunners…. they have always been going through it.. and look at their poor seasons….
what do you guys think abot the marco van basten rumors?
Chelsea needs a tactician !! I personally would like to see GUUS…
but a young manager with attacting ideas would be good. i heard.. gregory would be signed with him too…
A very nice piece on Gus Poyet in the Daily Mail. Keep adm eye on Brighton. Perhaps someday he’ll manage Chelsea
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1356355/Gus-Poyet-says-English-football-blend-tradition-passing-game–play-Brighton-way.html?ITO=1490
denverblue,
Carlo rotated the squad last season, when he actually had depth.
All this Carlo drama is much ado about nothing. (See what I did there? Another Shakespeare reference. When you’re good, you;re good! :) )
Another well-taken chance. i do wish he’d been given an opportunity. And I do wonder what they do with him next season. The possibilities are intriguing because they include dropping Drogba from the squad.
Sturrdge, three games, three goals … the kid obviously has the talent … why he did not get chance in Chelsea, or why Kalou got so many chances and ruined all goal scoring opporutnaties , only Carlo can asnwer them ?
Carlo is not a good manager … I do not beleive in him anymore ….
@BC,
good to know that you too are following Real Madrid….:p. Sometimes i feel our players need to watch their games to understand what passion is.
Jesus Christ what is wrong with you people. Don’t you realize why the media and 3/4 of England hates us? The moment we fell off of our high horse we began moaning and complaning. OH MY GOSH! Before Chelsea started to win, when we lost we sang, when we drew we sang, when we won we sang. Nowadays, when we win we rejoice, when we draw we say damn just lost 2 points, when we lose we say:
SACK THE MANAGER
BUY PLAYERS
BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you know how annoying it is to listen to you plastic bunch of so called fans. I am damn sure when Manchester United don’t win titles they don’t go off and say sack Fergie. I mean in his first damn season the guy wins OUR VERY FIRST GOD DAMN DOUBLE. Roman and Co. screw up and you say sack Carlo?
I am very sorry but I really mean this. You guys are fucking retarded!
I am working on something to give BC and it should finally put and end to all this nonsense.
Avram Grant
Luiz Felipe Scolari
Guus Hiddink
They are all using what is known as the JM project. Unfortunately, the JM project only lasted for 6 years and so a new project must be put into place. However, at the same time, UEFA Financial Fair Play is coming to town and will not allow the extravagant funding the new project needs. Unless it will be legal to write off the immense debts created at the end of the season and turn them into a loan to be paid to Roman Abramovich from Chelsea Holdings Ltd. We are virtually screwed as Frank Arnesen did not deliver what he was meant to do.
So what does this mean?
Live without winning for a couple of years.
Nope, we can’t even handle losing 5 games.
Win domestically but go without titles in Europe.
Nope, Roman wants UCL more than anything.
This is barely a sneak peek of what I have planned to give BC and WAX to literally blow your minds.
we a re virtually screweed bcos arnesen has not deliverd anything???????
IM SORRY BUT HAVE YOU SEEN OUR YOUTH TEAM???????????
its the best among all the teams right now…………so arnesen dint fail……
the older blues are gonna leave in the next 1-2 years and tht brings in our yoouth team……we’ll send em on loan let em get experience and phase them into our first team……ancelotti’s gonna be here for a while…….one bad season’s not gnna hurt if the future’s bright mate……….
I too concede the EPL but i am praying that citeh win it, not manure or arse-anal!
Guys, everybody seems to have opinion on Carlo, I have it too, and I feel we will never come to a common ground. I don’t believe for a second that he is playing mind games with these words. All his tenure at Chelsea he showed himself a sincere but somewhat naïve –e.g. why he keeps announcing team’s formation before each game, what good does it do for us? I think him talking openly is part of his honesty. He behaves as he doesn’t know English media, who can spin anything. This is part of his persona. That is what I like in him very much. He is a macho man. He would never beg for points we could have if we had a penalty. He is a real man and I’d put him in the same mold as John Terry and Frank Lampard. Honestly I feel proud for him standing like a man (that is when we win a game ?). But from professional side he has a lot of weaknesses, and we saw them last year and we see them again. He is not a great tactician. I contribute our last year double more to the players than to him, even though his stamina added to their determination. Add to his current woes his inability to control who we buy and who we sell and we have a problem on our hands. Still if we were to rebuild our team next year I would rather keep Carlo because he is the character we need on our side and in our side. If only the owner helps with right acquisitions during summer.
P.S. I know, some my treat his words as a lack of character, but maybe he just doesn’t want to over-promiss and under-deliver?
ok if carlo is so good…lets look at 1 thing against Liverpool: leaving Drogba on and taking Torres off..now I love the Drogs because on his day he is unstoppable but lets face it in that game he was awful just aboiut tripping over his shoes laces…yes everyone has a bad day but his form for whatever the reason has been very ordinary this season…Torres in that game got very little support just like DG but he looked hungry and I thought played ok in the circumstances….SO WHY THEN would Carlo leave the bad player on and take off the good one…to the GREAT delight of the Liverpool supporters who could give Torres a big razz in getting pulled which obviously wouldn’t give him the best mental start with a new club…conversely leaving him on always gave us that chance he was going to produce aginst his old team which he was very motivated to do…it’s things like this which add up over a season…I think Carlo needs to get his act together and like a few players has the remainder of the season to prove he deserves another go next year…at the end of the day for a coach the bottom line are the results…or the manner in which you lose
On another point lets play 4.3.3..or something like it and get some real width in our play as we know they will park the bus…
Cech
Ivanovic-Luiz-Terry-Cole
Ramirez-Mikel-Lampard
Anelka-Torres-Malouda
Cricket, anybody ?
I think we’ll do fine tday.. fulham 1 chelsea 3, with torres on the score sheet i hope, or the press will crazy then.
We can still look at a 2nd place finish if we can win maximum games remaining compared to arsenal & city.
This season has been the worst since a long time. Though i’m still looking forward to CL, hoping this is our year… finally! If some stupid refereeing error or big bad luck does’nt stop us.. Terry, Lampsy & Drigba really deserve this medal, & i hope they get it come may.. @wembley >>
KTBFFH :)
Why can’t we just go back to the old tried and tested 4-4-2. I don’t like 4-3-3 never did. The only reason why we scored so many goals was because clubs didn’t take us to seriously because Man. Utd. won the league a few times. Anyway Karma CW I would rather see Man. Utd. win the league instead of Arsenal or Citeh. cheers!
I nearly choked in my dinner; “Carlo to rotate” http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11668_6751373,00.html
Pigs flying would have been more likely. But let’s see what happens the next 3 month.
Ancelotti rotated his squad throughout last season.
Ancelotti rotated his squad throughout last season.
Watching chelsea against fulham …
very bad performance so far .. no plan at all … I cannot wait to get rid of Carlo
another mistake by Carlo He replaced Torres by Drogba, he is stpud, he should have brought out a defensive player, what is he looking for in this game ? a draw ?
now its looking from bad, worst to horrible.
very disapponited of Ancelotti, I wanna start coaching, if this guy won CL twice, I would win it every year … he knows shit
