You ever see Dumb and Dumber?
Hopeless case Jim Carrey chases dreamboat Lauren Holly.
So You’re Telling me There’s a Chance?
Chelsea are Jim Carrey. It’s not looking good. But yes, I’m telling you there’s a chance. It’s not just delicious pie-in-the-sky. The elements are in place. However, everything will have to go just right. Here’s how.
Chelsea have 16 games left. That’s 48 points. They currently have 38. So their maximum potential tally is 86.
6 teams have won the Premier League with fewer than 86 points in the fifteen years of the 38-game schedule. 6 out of 15. A whopping 40%. The lowest total was United’s 75 points in 1996-97. The year before, Arsenal hoisted the trophy with just 78 points.
A Weaker Premier League
Most observers agree that the 2010-11 Premier League season is extremely unpredictable. The Big Four have morphed into the Rather Large Five with the addition of Spurs and City and the subtraction of Liverpool.
Why? Follow the money. United have an ownership debt, Chelsea are on an austerity drive, Arsenal have a stadium debt and Liverpool never made big money. Tottenham are smarter than they are rich. Only City are awash in money,
The result? The talent level is down in the Premier League. The playing field is more level. Thus we see an opportunity for the winning point total to be near its historic lows.

A Friendly Schedule
Chelsea trail United by 7, City by 7 and Arsenal by 5.
* Chelsea have two games left against United, so that’s 6 points on the table. Against City they have a home game plus a game in hand, also 6 points. And they only trail by 7.
* United have a game in hand. But it’s away. And United have drawn 8 of their 10 away games. That’s 16 dropped points. They have 9 remaining away games, among them Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. If those are all draws, that’s another 18 points dropped. I hear a door opening.
* City, tied at the top, have played a game more than Chelsea. That’s a potential 3 points. They have away games to United, Chelsea and Everton and a home game to Spurs. That’s another 9 points on offer. Frankly, I’d have to say that of all the candidates, City are the most likely to win the League. But there are opportunities.
* Arsenal are 5 points ahead. Their recent Premier league record is excellent. But they often choke in big games. Still ahead are a rematch with United and away to Tottenham. If those are draws that’s 4 points to be had.
* We’re ignoring Tottenham’s schedule because they’re behind Chelsea and the Blues won’t be dropping any more points this season. (!)
Yes, I’m telling you there’s a chance. Just ask Mr. and Mrs. Jim Carrey.

I’m not good with numbers. And I’m not an optimist.
So this post was foreign to my nature.
If you see any errors, be kind. Don’t say a thing.
Yeah, that should do it.
Throw in the fixtures that will mess up the others and it really gets interesting. Fatigue to Arsenal after the replay against Leeds, another game against Ipswich and then the Carling cup final sandwiched between the Barcelona games. City have their last 32 games in the Europa still to play and i forcast United dipping before the season ends. Looks like the title will be won on the last day of the season which is great for evryone involved.
We don’t have to worry about the other teams. We simply get our 48 points and pray to God that we win the league.

good post! :)
Well, I think Chelsea have a chanse, but its a bigger chanse that Chelsea dont win the league this year. All we can do now is to hope that other teams loose some points and that Chelsea win almost all the matches they have left! There is still alot of matches. All we can do is hope! In sha allah it will be good!

After looking at the schedule and recent results, if I were a betting man I’d bet on Man City to win it.
Mancini is pragmatic and his philosophy seems to be paying off.
City have assured UEFA that they have a financial plan in place. I can’t wait to see what it is. There’s no way a club with their revenue can afford to pay guys 300,000 a week. It’s absurd.
I foresee a lot more turmoil in their future.
I feel like this [title wining] won’t happen. I would be satidfied if Chelsea finishes 2nd or 3rd this year and guarantee Champions League spot..
Personally, I would be happy to see any team except ManU win the league. Mancity may win the league if they have title wining mentality.
Better to concentrate on the next year’s CL spot, and FA cup, CL.
Good post Wxwax! Enjoyed it. And yes, as they say, as long as it’s mathematically possible, I can’t tell myself that ‘we won’t win it’.
By the way, BlueChampions blog link is on the official Chelsea FC website. Cast your vote on the blog! We say often that this is one of the best blogs on the internet. Let’s see how rank up with the competition there! Here’s the link!

Vote early and vote often, folks! (Just clean out your cookies and do it again. *evil wink*)
Yes, I’m telling you there’s a chance. Just ask Mr. and Mrs. Jim Carrey….i love that…nice write up i tell you,,,,Bluechampion is proud to have you
The chance is still there, mathematically. But the key question is not if our opponents can loose enough points. They definitely will. The question is if we can win regularly and exploit their losses. With a depleted squad, full of injured or just-returning-from-injury players. With no big signing in the winter (probably). With ageing and tired players, who cannot be replaced by anybody else, cause there is no one to take their job if needed. With a couple of young talents, undoubtedly talented, but probably still too young to make it into starting 11 on a regular basis.
So, this is why it seems improbable. Not because it is impossible, but because it could be impossible for current Chelsea. But maybe I am only a bit too sceptical.
Ya WXWAX,
We Are Going To Be The Champions

WXwax Wxwax Wxwax…… tht ws an awesome post bro…..lolz…. not only was it entertaining… it also had some very good (albeit optimistic) analysis..
A big thank you.. for a great read. :)
Now bac to business..
1. As it stands.. mathematically…we do stand a chance…. but we cannot hide from the fact that Man City and Man U are lookin favorites to win da title…. and what we gotta do is to ride on the results like the ones against blackburn, bpool, bolton..etc… and take that inspiration into games like ones against Mancity man U tottenham …
2. Although Ivanovic ws brilliant last match.. we do require a CB and a tad more creativity in the center… nothing much.. just two quality players in this Jan window are a must…
3. Passing and Finishing…our %age of “complete” passes have to be higher… and our finishing has to get he standards.. of August and September…
And yes .. We do have a chance… :)
KTBFFH :)
Pienaar decided to go with Spurs. Did we really need him? and if so did he change his mind because we offered low wages. I hope this doesnt become our habit and players decide not to play for us. I’m sure media is going to hype this that CFC have started offering low wages and not many players will want to play for CFC anymore. bummer
Yeah, a bit of a bummer. I wonder what message this sends to the current players?
Wages are the biggest part of a club’s budget, so I understand wanting to limit them.
For the last financial year on record, 2008-09, Chelsea were tops in wages. That explains why Ballack, Cole et al were released.
I think we can safely say that City are tops now. They show a loss of £92.6m for the same time period, much of it on wages.
The surprise is that Spurs were willing to pay more than Chelsea (I’m assuming that money was the deciding factor.)
Thanks shawn!
So we are currently linked with a January move for Sanchez and Luiz. We are also heavily linked with a summer move for Lukaku as the direct replacement of King Drogba (start calling him this), also start calling Lampard and Terry King as well. We need younger talents who will adapt easier to the CURRENT game. The old talents do have experience, but the game has changed greatly over the past 10 years and even greater since the last season, as you can see instead of 3 clubs challenging, we know have 5 with a potential 6 if Liverpool get back on track. The younger talents have higher adaptability because they are still learning and it makes no sense for a man who is soon retiring to learn some new moves. The younger talents also have pace and stamina over quite a few of our older players although some “special” ones seem to never age. If I were to state 3, Giggs, Del Piero and Beckham would have to be my choices.
Luiz has creativity and would have Alex and Ivanovic fighting for places. Sanchez would have Malouda and Zhirkov fighting for a place. Look at it, with a deep squad, the players train harder than ever so that they can get a place in the team. With a thin squad, there is no need to train hard, because you know your place is already cemented. Last year, Essien, Lampard, Deco, Joe Cole, Ballack, Malouda and Zhirkov fought to get play. Now they don’t have to, becuase their is no one to fight with.
I will try to sum up our slump right now.
Peter Kenyon claimed we were spending big wads, for NOW (2004) but our future was the main target. Well it seems Roman didn’t allow this to happen properly and UEFA implementing new rules hit us at a bad time. So we cut a squad, which was trying to build and was only 50% done, and now we are struggling with creating profits and with a old, tired squad we are losing and not performing to our standard.
So to those who wanted Carlo to get sacked, think again as Carlo should not and did not fear his job as it was never his fault. He was running smoothly was a slump likely to come but not a big one, Roman out of the blue does something that Carlo would have never in a million years liked to have happened and bham a bigger one appears.
There is a chance to win, Man Utd, Tottenham and Arsenal over the years have shown that they always trip at the end and allow someone to get ahead even if by just one point as shown in the 09/10 season.
I would love to see this:
4-3-3 (left to right)
Cech
van Aanholt – Terry – Alex – Ivanovic
McEchran – Ramires – Lampard
Sturridge – Anelka – Kalou
Drogba on at 65 minutes for Kalou
Kakuta on for Sturridge at 70 minutes
Keep sub available
Go all out from kick off and the moment you score a goal, go for another, and another, and another until 90 minutes has come. When the strikers seem not to be working, push Ramires and Ivanovic up but let Terry stay down as he has no creativity what so ever. Luiz does though…
Well you can look at the points and with a lot of “ifs” and yes we can still win. But what worries me is the way we are playing as a team and it stinks…and on that score we have little chance. The crazy thing is that this competition is up for grabs and the first team to realise that it’s wide open and grinds out results with ugly football will win. When I say ugly..just showing lots of fight and determination to do what it takes..and if that means treating every game as a final then do it. Man U are a shadow of the team from 2 years back, Man C overly cautious and negative, Arsenal and Spurs both suspect at the back with any real pressure…I think it’s up to Ancelloti to earn his pay and get the team to show lots more fight and a bit more smarts on the field…as except for a few most are bludging.
Maybe it is good for Chelsea. B’ coz we have many players in our squad as good as Pienaar and it gives a chance to them to shine.
I was not so excited to see Chelsea sign them anyway.. Better to use Kakutta, Benayoun and McEchran..
