Is Man City becoming a bogey team for us? How’s that we beat the biggies (they’re not one yet) but still get beaten by Man City in succession. For a team that doesn’t get beaten that often, our recent record against Man City’s recent record is disturbing.
The sad thing is they have beaten us with the same tactic every single time. Its actually embarrassing. This being a match at the City of Manchester stadium, we shouldn’t have probably allowed them any opportunities for counterattack. They knew that we’d attack in numbers. And we knew that their goals would come from counterattacks. The one guy in Citeh who can apply a great finish is Tevez and he’s the one player I need to worry about in their team. Yet, we allow him negotiate our strong defence and beat the keeper.
I’d agree with JoseHoliday. This is a match that we should have produced a tactical masterclass, like the Chelsea under TSO. We were trying the same thing over and over again and at no moment we were able to really surprise them.
By half-time, I was clear about one thing – Ramires was the weak link. He is new to this league and he is learning the hard way. He’s been a bit iffy in the last few games that he played. In fact, I’m yet to see a good game from him. I’m sure that he’ll improve but why would we play him against such a good counterattacking team?
Ramires has not been confident on the ball. It’s not just this match and this goal. He plays in such a crucial position that he can’t afford to be unsure. Probably Mancini saw him to be the weak link and gateway for their opportunities. That said, Man City hassled us very well. They never allowed our players any time on the ball. Only players like Essien, Mikel and Anelka could get some time on the ball. But I’m very positive about Ramires that he will come good. I was one who got hyper-excited when I learnt that Ramires is signing for Chelsea. I’m sure he’ll improve.
Okay, over to a better result. I didn’t get to see the match. I don’t when will see a champions league match again. The kick off of these night matches is at about 3 am in the morning which makes it impossible for me to watch them. Anyways I do catch up on reactions, goals and interviews.
Chelsea continues to perform strongly in Europe. I don’t think anyone’s even asking if we can progress to the next round. We are marching on like champions. On the champions league this season, Chelsea seems to be quiet and modest but also very focussed and determined.
I have a feeling that Carlo would value the champions league success more than a premier league success this season. That’s because he’s not like Arsene Wenger or Rafa Benitez who have not won a league title for donkeys years. Carlo just won the league so he can afford to turn to champions league. Personally, I’d rate premier league over champions league any day. But hey, gimme both, I won’t mind!

i think our bench strength was poor for city game and ramires essien mikel should not play togther i would play zhirkov for arsnl but dont worry we would smash them at bridge
I don’t think Chelsea has the depth right now to win both. They’d need to add a RWB (because who know’s when Bosingwa will reach 100%), a solid MF who can hold the ball (like Ballack could), and maybe a young CB that can play top tier talent if Alex or Terry are hurt. I don’t trust Ibrahimovic or Ferreira to play Champions League defense.
Signing players like Ilshinho, Pastore/Costa/Javi Martinez/ or Hamsik (if we could afford him) and David Luiz would cost around $30 M but probably put Chelsea as favorites to win both leagues and give them a young staple of elite talent to start replacing the aging starters like Terry (29 but slowing), Lampard (32), Anelka (31), Drogba (32), Ferreira (31) and Malouda (30). This team is getting older and will more likely slow down and become more and more injured. Terry, Lampard and Anelka have tons of milage on their legs that probably make them feel older than they are. And sadly I don’t think players like Borini, Kakuta and McEachran are close to being world class.
I have no idea why I wrote Ibrahimovic and not Ivanovic. Must be a freudian slip.
Nice post BC…
Just to add a note, we obviously misses Lampard big time. If you analyse our previous setup, it is Frank that does the running to provide extra options to our stranded midfielders and protects the possession. Ramires is trying but not there yet. I’m not sure why Essien is not playing this role or perhaps he is but at a tighter area whereas Frank’s positioning would have covered a healthy 70% of the field. I can see that Anelka is trying to do the same upfront but in the meantime, it takes out an attacker from the box which limits our offence. And Carlo should know better that without Didier, we should not be attempting crosses unless it is a set piece, we have see so many wasteful chances flyby. Sturridge is a concern, I guess its part and parcel of maturing and getting more experience but his selfish and direction-less gameplay is really annoyed me BIG TIME! And of course, as everyone else knew and agreed that McEachran is such a class act that I’m getting excited just by seeing his name on the teamsheet. He is the FUTURE and I hope he develops his leadership well enough to challenge for the armband.
I’m confident of a good results for the Men in Blue this coming weekend as we have been Arsenal’s bogey team for a few seasons now. They hate us, they hate playing Didier and they should continue hating us more after this weekend. KTBFFH!!!!
Good one BC and it is going to get better by this Sunday, i can foresee a good spanking of the ‘arse’nal! I agree that Ramires was the weakest link and citeh capitalised on it. My first 11 at the Eastlands would have been the one that we had against Marsielle except that Drogba plays up front and Nico on the right in place of Kaku. Anyway it has past and i am confident that when they come to the Bridge, they are going to get it hard!
I agree with GipsyBlue on Sturridge, but lets just hope and PRAY that he will improve! At Eastlands, Sturridge wasted very good chances over the free kicks, modest Alex just kept watching, i am sure Alex would have thundered one in had Sturridge had an iota of decency and modesty. Just remember how Alex bombarded the post last Tuesday.
And yes we have a very big REASON to be happy and excited about our promising Josh McEachran, i would love to see him score a great goal this Sunday!
fartsey Aresy is a team against which Chelsea can play stylishly. But make sure both wings work and arent overexposed !
