Chelsea 1-3 Manure | Rusty and not ready . . .
There you have it. I would have loved to win this match but now that we haven’t I’m not gonna throw a fit. Chelsea were certainly a bit rusty and lacked sharpness. It was pretty clear that Chelsea were about a week behind Manure in terms of fitness and match readiness. For all this, I was pretty pleased with how Chelsea played in attack. It was the defence that was a bit worrisome. In attack, we played very well for the first match of the season. I kept seeing van der Saar making diving saves while I didn’t get to see Hilario so much. We had more shots than Manure but they won the game. I wouldn’t take anything away from their performance but the scoreline was not a reflection of what happened on the pitch.
Last season, it was our left side that proved crucial in many matches. Today, both Ashley Cole and Malouda were off colour with the former being at fault for the first two manure goals. Not sure if Ashley Cole is tempted about a Madrid move. He was not his usual assured self in defence. You can never doubt his commitment but I wonder if was fully focussing on the game. He was a fraction late for every ball. He strayed out of position and didn’t mark his players well enough. Hopefully it’s just that he was as rusty and no ready as the team where not even Essien was an exception.
Sturridge was our man of the match. He created so much havoc in the short time that he played. He has loads of strength as well as skill. I’m just wondering what could be his ideal position on the pitch. He is a striker but he has a good dribble but he isn’t agile enough to be a winger. Even in the last season, he created a good impression with every single opportunity he was given. Benayoun made a decent debut – confident on the ball, making typical silky-smooth movements in key areas. I was a bit disappointed not to see Kakuta in the starting line-up only to realise he was not even on the bench. Remember, he is a trump card, a secret weapon that would be unleashed on our opponents this season.
We absolutely need Petr Cech back. The good news is he could be back for the first premier league match next weekend. We surely need to have options in strike force. Anelka on his own is not going to be too much of a threat for oppositions like manure. Drogba is not getting younger. We need a top striker to can lead the Chelsea attack in his absence. A striker with a strong presence and a constant threat.
So folks, don’t worry too much about this result. We played very well, we knew were we went wrong, we know the scoreline was harsh and more importantly we know what we need. We’ll start the premier league season in style.
Hello All ,
Nice to be up and running. Firstly , I see this match as an excellent wake up call. Had we strolled through the pre-season on the back of an excellent last season , there would be serious problems when the season starts. I was disappointed not to see Kakuta. I wanted to see him wreak havoc in the Manure ranks. Frankly speaking , our english contingent was not ready as yet. Cole , Terry were terribly off colour. Lamps also played a few loose balls and his first touch was heavy. I think the change in ball ” Jabulani ” back to the normal Nike ball is the reason why. Half of the Manure squad didn’t train for the World cup. Chelsea might take some time to get used to the old ball again.
Also , the link up play on the left side needs to be looked at. With the loss of Deco , we are short of midfielders. I don’t consider Benayoun to play that well in Midfield . He is an attack minded player and might find it difficult to fill the shoes of Ballack.
Waiting for the signing of Ramires. It might just trigger some competition for the mid field berths. Hope TFO must have identified the areas that need strengthening. Blues for life !!!!
hi everyone,
I really embarased with the pre season and today i got a big shock with the Community Shield match Report, I hope that Chelsea will introduce another super striker to the squad, because we have to face much more better teams than Man Utd in future including in the Champions League.
But I hope and believe that our guys will shine in future games. we do not have to worry…………….

Okay, thoughts
1. First of all, I’m not too disappointed with the performance. It was a good run-out for the players. We certainly deserved to draw the game and with better finishing and better luck, would have done so.
2. Our defensive line was poor. We tried to play a high line but with slow defenders like Terry and Ivan in the middle, it was too easy for United to run in behind. There was no organisation at the back and the players seemed to lack a bit of agility and weren’t synchronized and decisive in their actions.
3. We were also very narrow at the back, especially on the left where Cole was tucked inside too much. United always found a ready outlet on their right in the shape of Valencia and their first two goals were down to the frailties mentioned above.
4. The passing was a bit off today, especially in the first half and there were too many heavy passes, but that can be put down to the players still not being fully fit and lacking match practice.
5. Carlo got it wrong by not taking Kalou and Anelka off at HT.
6. Our game improved greatly in the second half, the players played with more freedom, purpose and conviction. The passing got much better but the defence was still quite worrying.
7. I really liked our fluidity and movement up front. United spent much of the second half defending deep and clearly on the backfoot. Good interplay between Malouda, Drogba, Sturridge, Kalou.
8. Essien was really impressive in the DM role. He got caught up the field once or twice but that is understandable given we were really pressing for goals. His vision and passing seemed to hit a whole new level once he was put there.
9. I think we lacked a creative spark in midfield. We kept the majority of the possession throughout the game, but didn’t really have anyone to change the game with a moment of magic when United sat deep with 2 banks of 5.
10. Overall, an okay performance marred by a lack of clinical finishing and clumsy defending.
BC, I agree with you and i also find 3. Jaimin Desai’s comment very conclusive!
Here are my own:
The first 11 should have been:
Malouda…………Drogba………….Nico
Lampsy…………………………….Essien
…………………..Mikel…………………..
Cole…..Terry…..Ivanovic……Ferreira
…………………Hilario……………………
Carlotti got it wrong by starting Kalou, he always does best coming off at around 60-70th minute. Did you guys see that he was dribbling with himself, i always feel very uncomfortable seeing him in the starting line up. The goal is just not the case, he was lucky.
And Carlotti got it wrong again by taking Nico off for Drogba while Kalou was obviously under-performing. If Drogba wasn’t fully fit i would have taken him off and bring Kalou while Nico moves inside. I would have at 60th minute brought Sturridge in for Malouda (he tackles were all mis-timed).
Then Benayoun in for Mikel, Essien moves to holding midfield! Zhirkov for Cole was the only correct substitution!
So, at the end if Drogba is still strong, my 11 would be:
Sturridge………….Drogba……………Kalou
Lampsy…………………………….Benayoun
……………………..Essien……………………
Zhirkov…..Terry……Ivanovic……Ferreira
…………………….Hilario……………………..
I am hurt because i want to win everything against manure, against reed nose and granny neville!
bc. i wana tel u smthn…chelsea need to change their defensive tactics cos it looks lyk da defense doesnt get da required support from da midfield n dats how it shud be.yes we may be playn well but we dnt defend lyk a unit n dnt score goals we just wasting our breaths…i thnk now is da tym for tfo to change his tactics especially da formation cos we need support at back…i wud luv to see 2 defensive midfielders essien n mikel in da startin line up.
this wat im thinking of:
drogba
malouda lampard benayoun
essien mikel
ashly cole terry ivanovich bosingwa
guys tell me wat u think of dis formation…..
wen u look at da formation…u already know defensivly will be gud n wen we attack we ll give cole n bosingwa to go mor forwad cos essien mikel are thr for cover.it ll be gud to c lampard on his original position finishing every lose balls from crosses n supporting drogba also….
Bc pls tell me wat u thnk?
i know last season we won da league but luk at our defeats….wen we lost a game last season we lost wit too many goals e.g. da game against man city…spurs….n our first game againt wigan…n evn inter.so chelsea wasnt sharp
yes we might have scored too many goals last season bt stil if u dnt defend well against top teams wil neva win da champions league.
the defence worries me a lot. was it just me or did someone else also notice ashley’s unconcerned behavior towards the end of the game? I seriously hope we keep the lad, coz there’s no one else like him out there. The attack should be good enough to pump in goals against west brom and wigan, but the major worry is the defence. John Terry’s form worries me. With Bosingwa back and Im assuming to start, we would have both fullbacks playing as wingers. Now that really stretches the 2 central defenders. Carvalho has the pace and so does Ivanovic to handle these situations. But I’m not too sure about Terry. Overall the performance of Malouda, Sturridge and Kalou was pretty good. Hope the defence holds up and we can make it another blue year!!!KTBFFH!!

Guys doesn’t it feel so good to be alive? I think we can all feel abit aggrieved to the loss to Manchester United. Chelsea certainly has the right players but we looked as though we didn’t prepare well enough for the forthcoming season. Especially at the back we looked exposed.
In my opinion Ashley Cole is very over-rated and John Terry isn’t that good enough anymore.
The chelsea team is very strong if you look at them man for man and compare them to Manchester United. For example at the back and in midfield but unfortunately not in the forwards postion. Don’t get me wrong Didier Drogba is a good forward but that’s all we had. Isn’t that the reason why we bought Andre Shevchenko?
And we didn’t replace Andre Shevchenko with another quality forward.
And that is the reason why I was going on that Chelsea needs to buy at least one quality forward this season. Manchester United also had the same problem that Chelsea had last season as they didn’t have a quality forwards, besides Wayne Rooney. Ditimar Berbatov looks like a man short of confidence and Michael Owen is just not good enough anymore. They went out and searched for a quality forward something that the Chelsea scouts are unable to do! This new mexican forward is touted to be the next Hugo Sanchez.
I suggest we swop Ashley Cole to Madrid for Karim Benzema. If this rumour is not bogus. We have an able deputy in Yuri Zhirkov. cheers!
Martin o’neil calls it a day. It must have been something to do with the milner sale to mancity.
time for the blues to pull in for gabriel or few others…. the villans are a really good side , the second side that i always supported in the league. i always believed in martin and he would take villa to the top 4. they really have a good side still and can compete for the CL spot. i hope they dont sell young, gabriel and few others to anyone else. Now we can think that milner is defenitely going to mancity.
No deals yet.. 21 days to go.. Get Ashley Young now.
Agree with some of the points made above including :
1. Our defense is shit. Utd toyed around both our fullbacks. We always have had a problem with good speedy wingers, Nani & Valencia for Utd, Bale for Spurs, Bellamy for Citeh. Our defense seems to adopt a high up front line for some unknown reasons, possibly for off side trap utility (used by teams like Arsenal, Villareal, Barcelona who have notorious defensive records), not a feature used under Jose. We seem to leave players unmarked, Cole and Terry being big culprits.
2. We find it very difficult to comeback once a goal down. Opponents when score, go to ‘Parking Bus’ mode making it difficult for our attack to split them which forces us to send extra bodies hence compromising on defense. Good counter attacking teams thrive on such plays. I feel the defeats under Carlo have been thus with an embarrassing margin.
Sturridge & Essien were the only positives in the match. Although I feel our attack is potent enough to thump the lowly teams in the initial stages. Ramires would be a good addition. Carlo is still trying to find the combination to go with the new season. Its become difficult for him to incorporate Essien & Mikel (Ramires, when he joins). I think the initial pre-season games played with youngsters have seriously cut short the opportunities for Carlo to try different combinations with the regulars.
I agree with Paulie’s formation above with some changes.

Inother news, Scotty sinclair has been sold to swansea city. one more youngster leaving lack of chances.!! rememeber glen johnson ?

Hello all, after a dismal performance (in terms of defense), we are definitely not ready for the start of the Premier League season. Even though we have the so-called relegation battlers and midtable strugglers early up, our defense has been so goofy lately that one predator-esque striker in the opposition can get himself one-on-one with our goalkeeper on several occasions due to our strange high offside-trap line. And if our goalkeeper is either one of ”Hilarious Hilario” or ”Miss-the-ball Turnball”, we are sure to concede.
As Chelsito rightly pointed out, our main positive from the game was Sturridge and his ball-control, power and movement. The lad is ready for first-team opportunities and we must give him that, instead of Kalou who, in my opinion, looked absolutely shit! Javier Hernandez was a very sly and good signing by Fergie and, mark my words, may as well be the signing of the PL if we are not careful. Sturridge could be our very own Hernandez-style attacker only more powerful !
Another thing that surprised me, as well as it did to BC, was the exclusion of Kakuta. The lad is ready, Carlo ! I saw the U-19 games and let me tell you, the boy is a Messi in the making if moulded and guided correctly. He can be the creative spark we all want at the end of midfield. He can be that talisman who can create something out of nothing. He can be that home-grown Stamford Bridge legend we all are waiting for !
By selling Kalou for a decent price and using that money + a little more funding from Roman, we can generate enough to pull ourselves a good striker who we need.
KTBFFH !!
wtf doing with ramires !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thnx chelsito for backing me up buddy….we realy need a change in formation.
4…2…3…1 for Chelsea pleeaaaseee!!!!!!!!!carlo
chelsea has got right players but are not utilised in a correct manner…..if chelsea start to play that kind of formation im telling u it ll b be hard to beat chelsea like in 2003-2004 season.
fact is…..i quote from fifa08 game…”as long as u dnt consit a goal there s 99.99% to win da game”
Come on chelsea!!!!!!!!!
@kdrogba we are waiting for work permit for ramires then transfer will be official i
how about this guy as a striker… he is very good !!! Fernando Llorente
Giggs says chelsea is ordinary team

Have you seen that Sporting Index’s Premier League points spreads? They still have us as favourites and I reckon we’re still a decent buy at 84. What you reckon, we’re only going to get better when the side gain their match fitness

well said !! just hope they do that soon, i was impressed with our attacking changes sunday. I however thatwe need a striker i recommended on to add to the others we like. we need a attacking mid we all like and think ozil (VDV/pastore)do well with us. and a keeper.. chelsea has however reacted to getting a keeper really slow, this should have been sorted a long time ago.. which will affect settling of players. i am not overly impressed with the stoke keeper they want, maybe they want home grown. Given is pretty good. as well as there are others….

chelsea will bring in players though
@denverblue, thanks it refers to Played, Goal diff and Points
I’m sure the whole transfer market will explode within a few days. Remember last year the markets went berserk at the very opening of the summer transfer window. Resulting in hugely inflated player valuations, not helped by Real Madrid’s insane panic buying. This year I think all the clubs are sitting tight and keeping their intentions to themselves until the very last days of the transfer window, thereby hoping to avoid last summers madness.
Lastly I still maintain that we will buy Neymar. A player I have been raving about for the last 12 month.
Ricardo Carvalho has joined us for 8 million euros.

It’s been expected for a while so no big surprise. Carvalho wanted to leave so no point in trying to keep him. I wish him good luck and thanks him for his time with Chelsea.

Pretty impressive Chelsea CV Ricco has
“In total, Carvalho played 203+7 times for Chelsea, scoring 11 times, and during his time at Stamford Bridge helped us to three Premier League titles, two FA Cups and two Carling Cups.”
someone plz get a CAM and a new GK!!!!
Ramires passed his medical on saturday and now for the work permit.
Sturridge…good at dribbling?
Anyway, no not a fair reflection in the scoreline but in a non-competitive game and whatnot….can’t expect anyone other than Paul Scholes to go in with enough aggression to break a player. It is effectively a friendly to be honest. Would of been nice to win, was a good game to watch and I see Ancelotti is experimenting but still has the 4-3-3 formation we’ve previously used.
Wishing Carvahlo well for his service. I think Ivanovic is the best partner for Terry right now. The move will give Jeff Bruma some playing time. With Kakuta playing so well in the european games, was a shame not to see him….or van aanholt.
Almost forgetting we even have Bosingwa these days. I saw alot of times when we lacked a player that would beat a guy on the break…… could be quite a few names available soon

good bit of news i heard that too…
as far as Goalkeeping goes, look at Spurs. They already have 2 great keepers, our former Cudicini and Gomes and they are set to sign another great GK, Croatian Pletikosa…… Man come on, GK’s dont even cost that much, just buy one already.
Whats going on. We have no cover at Central defense till Alex returns. We have released + sold 5 and bought 1.. and had the worst possible pre-season.
Don’t want the season to start in such a way that we are chasing everyone from Sept onwards..
One more likely sale soon

Riccy, thank you so much, you will be dearly missed, i would like to wish you good luck and may your old boss bring you success! Porto, Chelsea and Real…Jose and Riccy really seems to have a certain fate!
Okay guys, here is the deal. The following teams have better 2nd Goalkeepers then the current Premier League Champions.
Aston Villa: Guzan
Everton: Mucha
Manchester City: Hart
Stoke City: Begovic
Tottenham: Cudicini, and Pletikosa if the deal happens
West Brom: Myhill
Wigan: Pollitt, and last season had Kingston and Stojkovi? both better then ours.
Wolves: Hennessey
From last season:
Hull: Duke
Do i prove my point?

Hey guys..its been a while… first of all i would like to wish dear ricci all da luck… except..if they meet us in CL.. :) .. neway..i really am surprised with our speed in the transfer market this summer…. only one buy like ramires(awesome find though)… with Deco ballack and Joey leavin……also… its surprisin enuf tht…..inspite of havin some injury prone defense players like alex, zhirkov and bosingwa… ricci’s gone and we r not in the radar for a good replacement… rumours abt david luiz are on.. but i really doubt if anythin is gonna happen on tht front… and over this there is this new rule of each team havin a min of 8 homegrown(english) players….. well i really hope TFO pulls of somethin really wild b4 august gets over… and gets at least 2 -3 more solid replacements…
my bets are on Ozil , Luiz, Annan,….to be bit more outlandish….. aguero, neymar.. or dzeko
I really dont think we wud be goin fr a striker…
And most of all.. i wanna see KAKUTA play… i saw some of da u-19 wc games… tht guy is like a freakin dynamo… he wud mean a lot to the team..provided his form continues…
KTBFFH..
Cheers :)
United buys another striker.. Another day of no activity at Bridge.
For god sakes, Liverpool just signed goalkeeperBrad Jones for 2
mil, wake the hell up CFC. We are also getting in trouble for allegedly approaching Neymar illegally, same as the Kakuta case.
We clearly signed the wrong Goalkeeper foam Boro. Good signing Liverpool.
goal keeper should be signed but i think we can wait and hope petr cech remains .Ramires and one 1 more defender is priority and we should sign Neymar he has potential and he will cause no problem as he is very young and we dont need to offload anyone as well .now no more departures
52. Xerxesk,
Turnbull came on a free transfer!
What I don’t get about Carlo Ancelotti’s plans to build the future of the club around youngsters is that the majority of our ‘Youth’ is defence-based and the majority of the players we have off-loaded in the process are midfielders:
IN OUT
J.Bruma M.Ballack
S.Hutchinson Deco
P.Van Aanholt Belletti
M.Mancienne J.Cole
G.Kakuta R.Carvalho
F.Borini S.Sinclair
If you look at the above lists, we’re incorporating 4 defenders and losing about 4-5 midfielders. I am a stern advocate for a solid-defece but not when our midfield is weakened. Ancelotti doesn’t even seem to be interested in bringing Kakuta out onto the pitch at the moment, and in Benayoun and Ramires, we’ve got good but not great midfielders !
Either Carlo needs to bring G. Kakuta into the first-team, with someone like J.McEachran or G. Tore on the bench, or buy some Under-21 midfield talent.
We as a club were known for our midfield command and control and now that the senior departures have eroded that name, we are heavily reliant on the jobs of Essien and Lampard and not to mention two over-30′s strikers in Drogba and Anelka and a mediocre Salomon Kalou !
Final word: Unleash Kakuta !!
KTBFFH !!
Mascherano would be a good DM for Chelsea…..that means everyone else can be more attacking minded …. he’s for sale too
He said he wants a change of country.
When is the bluechampions fantasy football league going to be up???

we are already buying Ramires so no need of Mascherano
I don’t know if this is reliable… certainly good news if it’s true!

I have seen the news several different places and if indeed it is true it is the best signing Chelsea have made for years. Neymar could easily prove to be our new Zola. Yes I know there can only be one Zola, but I’m sure you know what I mean.
Anyone want to join my fantasy league the code is: 76306-24684
All Chelsea fans are welcome.

Yeah Ramires will be a good buy but we need and additional striker except we are hoping that sturige and anelka who does not deliver in a big game “Anelka” then we are bound to leave the champions league in the second round again.. However, drogba could be injured at some stage this season then we start struggling….
city after Ibra. Should then look at getting Adebayor or Tevez or Robinho..
Ramires granted work permit expected to be a chelsea player today

Chelsea should’ve got Tevez when he left ManUre… He would fit into the front line well
Yeah, i also admire Tevez for his work rate but i won’t forget what he, ireland and bellamy did to Terry!
