I am kind of disappointed that most of the Chelsea players that were supposed to take part in the 'most prestigious sporting event in the world' are going to miss out due to injury. After the success that we had this season, I was looking forward to seeing the likes of Drogba, Essien, Ballack and Obi Mikel put in match-winning performances for their respective countries. But if you think about it, its not only the Chelsea lot that is ''jinxed'' by this injury curse as the likes of Robben, Ferdinand, Beckham, Adler are all set to miss out too.

Here's hoping the World Cup is still a success !

[quote comment="82554"]Another one bites the dust, what's going on? Essien out, Mikel Out Drogba maybe out

I don't know whether this is good or bad for Chelsea. They could be fresh for the next season without needing to toil in the Wcup. At the same time they could be rusty in the early games after just recovering from their injuries much like Joe was during the entire season. This may trigger 1 or 2 player chases.

And 70m for a single player, I think media has wrongly taken Chelsea for either of the twin Spanish monopolies.

"Roman Abramovich is ready to lock horns with Manchester City owner Sheik Mansour in a deal that could reach £70million."

I THINK NOT, THAT WOULD BE COMPLETE MADNESS

My choice
                              Cech
Bosingwa/Srna Ivanovic/Alex Terry Cole/Zhirkov

                        Mikel/Essien

Benayoun/kalou Lampard/kaka Malouda/Anelka

                Drogba Torres/Anelka

Buy a 2nd choice GK.........i prefer Jääskeläinen
Buy an established young talent like Angel Di Maria or Elia Ejero or Gourcuff or millner
Try to give more chance for bruma,stoch,kakuta,borini,matic..........
buy benayoun only if joe cole goes...........
just one defender is needed i think sarna will do it
one playmaker i prefer kaka
one right wiger millner or navas
one striker i prefer torres if not buy pato or aguero

keep ballack and ferreira..........best for utility.........
Sell carvalho,deco,belletti......................................
And if possible we should give a shock to MAN.CITY like what they did for us with Robhino

Hello fellow Blues ! I have noticed that the end of the season period has brought in some interesting transfer ideologies and policies that many of you feel the club should adhere to in order to build on the success of our Double-winning season ! I've got to agree with Churchill though, the most we're going to get out of the transfer market is maybe one 20+ million pound signing with 2 or 3 smaller, less financially significant ones.

Essien seems to have put an end to the rumours that we might get rid of him because of his worrisome injury dilemma by signing a two-year extension and that is great news ! I guess that ends the rumour of Yaya Toure to Chelsea for good. Ancelotti has likened Anelka to Marco Van Basten and in any Universe that would mean he respects him deeply and wants to work with him atleast for another season or two !

As far as the acquisition of new players is concerned, we do not have to look beyond our Academy and Reserve squad. I think they can come good in the coming season as they have the quality to gel together and can be used against mid-table teams in the Premier League such as Blackburn, Newcastle, Sunderland, Wolves, Liverpool [ahahahah] and the like to give the big guns a rest for the main games such as those in the Champions League.

Looking forward to the World Cup ! Oranje all the way !

some of these comments are borderline ridiculous. you guys dont really think that well be able to make all these signings. if anything, carlo will be able to make one major signing along with a few other lesser signings. but really, we just won the double! why would we want to go and overhaul our entire side!

ESSIEN EXTENDS
Posted on: Fri 04 Jun 2010

Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce that Michael Essien has signed a two-year extension to his existing contract that will keep him at the club until 2015.

The Ghanaian said: 'I am delighted because the club has shown a very big confidence and interest in me.

'I am looking forward to coming back and enjoying my football and winning more trophies with the club. That is why I am here. I think it is one of the most important contracts in my career.'

Manager Carlo Ancelotti added: 'I am very happy that Michael has agreed to extend his time with us, as it means he will continue to be a very important player for Chelsea long into the future.'

Essien has appeared 185 times in Chelsea colours, scoring 22 goals since arriving from Lyon in 2005, but has not played for us since tearing a hamstring in December, and then damaging a knee on international duty in January, and will miss the World Cup this summer.

Chelsea TV has an exclusive interview with the midfielder on Sky channel 421 from 6.30pm this evening, along with the rest of the Blues News.
