Doesn’t it feel like we are destined to win this league title? Even before the second leg of the tie against Inter, I had said that losing to Inter could even have a positive impact to our league title chase. Having seen the effects of the first leg of the champions league quarter finals on our rivals, I think I was bang on. Man Utd have lost the first leg in a cruel fashion and have lost Wayne Rooney for about a month. To their horror, Arjen Robben will be back for the second leg next week. Arsenal have conceded two away goals to Barcelona in a match that redefined the word ‘luck’. Plus, they have lost Fabregas, Gallas, Arshavin and Diaby for a few weeks. Man Utd could go out of champions league next week and Arsenal need Jesus Christ to play in defence for them to have any hope. While all these are happening to our rivals, Chelsea have a week long break, since the demolition of Aston Villa, for resting, training and preparing for the all-important match at Old Trafford.
In Chelsea team news, it is confirmed that Drogba would start on Saturday. With Chelsea’s goal scoring form in matches that didn’t involve Drogba, his absence may not seem like a bad news after all. But none of those matches were against the likes of Man Utd, Barcelona etc. Against top teams, you need to have Drogba in the line up. He instantly creates a fear in the minds of the defence and can terrorise with just his presence. Keep in mind that Drogba’s record against Man Utd is something great. He has been prolific against a lot of top teams but not Man Utd. You can say that the Man Utd’s centre backs have got Drogba’s number. Let’s see how it goes on Saturday.
With Drogba in, Ancelotti has a decision to make in terms of the formation and tactics. I wish we go ahead with an aggressive 4-3-3 instead of a more solid, less fluent two striker formation. Which formation and tactics Ancelotti chooses depends on what he wants from this match. He has already said that a draw is not a bad result. I would never say that. With Rooney not being there, definitely not. If we go with a ‘draw is not a bad result’ mentality, we are not winning this game. We are playing the champions in their home ground in a very crucial stage of the league title. We are also playing against the mastermind that’s Alex Ferguson.
I agree that this is a match that we cannot afford to lose. Simply cannot. But ‘cannot afford to lose’ is a bit different from ‘draw is a good result’. Also this is a ‘must-win’ given our run-in to the title. To play with a ‘must-win’ attitude and a ‘cannot lose’ caution, we should have our tactics spot on. How we begin the match and play in the first half hour is very key. The last thing I want to see is a slow start from Chelsea. We should attack from the word go in both the halves. The ‘caution’ can set in for the last 20 mins of the match.
There are some obvious weak links in this Man Utd team. The most obvious is Gary Neville. With Malouda and Zhirkov on the left side of the pitch, I wouldn’t mind all our attacks are by exploiting old Gary. I would also call Berbatov a weak link. Man Utd fans can quote Rooney-less matches where Berbatov scored. Forget about the Rooney-less matches. Let’s look at all those matches where he scored: Bolton, Fulham, Everton, Portsmouth, Burnley, Wigan, Hull City, Blackburn, Sunderland and Stoke City. No Liverpool, no Man City, no Arsenal, no Tottenham, no Aston Villa and most clearly no Chelsea. Do you see a pattern? I’m sure you do. I rest my case.
Our threats could be from the improving Nani and Valencia. These two can really stretch Yuri and Paulo. While Nani and Valencia can be very effective for them, I don’t see them as the kind of players who would track back and help their full backs. I’m curious to see in what formation Man Utd will line up. Sir Alex does respect Chelsea a lot. In fact, ever since the Jose years, Chelsea is the only team that he considers a real rivals for his team. That’s why sometimes, he ends up being a bit too defensive in his team selection and formation. I won’t be suprised if Man Utd play a 4-5-1 and be content with a draw.
It’s clear that Chelsea’s morale is high and Man Utd’s morale is not so high, if not low. Chelsea must take full advantage of this and have a real go at them. If Chelsea were to beat Man Utd tomorrow, it would inflict a massive damage for Man Utd given that they also have a crucial quarterfinal match against a charged up Bayern. A win for Chelsea tomorrow can potentially derail Man Utd’s season. With this in stake, we must absolutely go for the win and goals too.
The whole of Chelsea team would have realised the golden opportunity that has presented itself once again for winning this title. For us, the opportunity keeps knocking our door. We have dropped the ball many times this season but still we seem to get opportunities again and again. We must grab this with both hands. I’m going for this result: Man Utd 1-2 Chelsea. Man Utd to take the lead and Chelsea coming back into the game to win it. For about 70 thousand-odd crowd, let’s make this the ‘theatre of nightmares’.

Carlo pls don’t use drogba at all
I am sure of chelsea winning this match.
Great analysis…i believe that we will win!
chelsea has a very big chance of winning this legue title.
we r going to thrash man u tom os i hope it will be 3-1
We must win. I feel good that DD is back on time!
I think the the valencia vs zhirkov battle will have a huge bearing on this game. valencia has been their player of the season apart from rooney. as BC pointed out, valencia isn’t great at tracking back but then, zhirkov isn’t too much of a defender either. he is great going forwards and him having to stick to valencia all the time will negate our attacking threat from the left a bit. malouda might have to track back more often to help him out. what’s good though is that valencia doesn’t cut inside to much so terry can worry about berbatov instead of keeping half an eye on valencia also. playing the diamond won’t work cos we won’t have great width courtesy our fullbacks being preoccupied with their wingers. 4-3-3 is the way to go.
for how many times this blog underestimates opposition and dun give enough respect to them.
the chelsea team is ok and both teams are likely to win this game.
but this is the most bias analysis i ever read.
try to post something like http://www.zonalmarking.net.

Carlo Ancelotti has just confirmed to the press that Didier Drogba is playing with a hernia problem. I don’t no what you’re talking about him being back. What a 50 percent Didier Drogba is back or 70 percent Didier Drogba is back. This is a must win game if we want to win the title.
Manchester United is a professional team and I can’t see them dropping points the way they’ve been playing this season. Show some respect to Berbatov is still a quality striker. And on the topic of quality strickers when is Cheslea going to buy quality forwards and quality players.
I can’t wait to see what spin BlueChampion is going to put on this one when Chelsea lose and I can’t wait to read your comments when Manchester United wins. cheers!!
Why not do like in 2001/02 at OT

and make Sir Rednose look like that again

I’m a Chelsea fan. Given the current circumstances, I expect Chelsea to beat Rooneyless Man Utd 2-1 at Old Trafford. Why is this an underestimation of opposition? Is it an impossible result among top rivals? I really want to know why you say I’m underestimating the opponents here???
Plus, thanks for the link. It’s a good site. Remember, tactics is not everything. Post-match tactical analysis is all about how and why something happened in a certain way. Full of hindsight bias, loads of jargons, black and white dots and some arrows here and there. But we’re not doing just tactics here. In a fan blog, you’ll also have emotions. I never try to explain or understand everything in football through just tactics because football is not just tactics. There’s whole lot of desire, hunger and emotion that can undo tactics (but experts always find a reason why that’s also a tactic) :-)
C’mon guys now is the time to rally around our boys. Chelsea can take a page out of Arsene Wenger’s book on how to build a team. They say it takes atleast three years to build a successful squad. We in desperate need of top quality players and definately need to supply Didier Drogba with a decent partner. Guys Didier Drogba isn’t going to to stay young forever. Look at Arsenal they had Robin Van Persie, Emanuel Adebayor and Edwaudo and Madrid they have Benzema and Higuain. The only reason why we won two league titles in a row is because we had a top manager, which was backed up with a really strong squad. cheers!!
Striker Rooney absent dosn’t mean the diffenders are absent, most likely the match may be draw.
good article but you nail the analysis as if they do not have any threat players apart from Nani and Valencia. i have to disagree with you bcos they have fantastic players with fletcher , carrick and giggs. they can tear opposition apart and never mind whom they play. their midfield are their threat and if we want to take something from this game, we need to battle their midfield more than their wings players. they can score any where in their old place. It seems some people are favouring us to win this match bcos of rooney absence but we must be very careful and should not be complecence. for me, whoever win this game will win the league. i predict draw.
I hope and pray chelsea will win tomorrow….
my analysis..
I guess that Carlo will use 4-3-2-1 formation….cech,terry,alex,zhirkov,ferreira,mikel,ballack,lampard,malouda,anelka,drogba….
but I truly hope that Joe Cole start instead of Anelka….
the most must notice ManU players….Fletcher,Nani,Valencia,Evra….
Fletcher will destroy Chelsea midfield concert…Lampard and Ballack must cope this..
Zhirkov and Malouda must cope with Valencia…..
Nani with Ferreira…and Evra with Ballack….
C’mon guys now is the time to get behind the boys. Lets rally the team on. cheers!!
After a long and hard fought league this year, this game is all that matters. We win the game, we win the league. We don’t win the game, we don’t win the league. There’s only one feeling in the blues camp, BULLISH! Just to remember TSO’s words, ‘ There are winners and there are others’. Up BLUES!!
I am wondering who the person voted that draw is enough. Might be ATOR or Kyith.
Hello, my fellow blues i am very scared of this match we will lose the battle with manchester. The reason for this is Essien. Lets Break up our two teams:
Cech is on par with van der sar
Neville is better than belleti
Ferdinand is on a par with Terry.
Vidic is better than carvalho.
Evra is better than zhirkov.
Fletcher is better than Mikel.
Carrick is on a par with lampard.
Valencia is on a par with Malouda.
Deco is on a par with Nani.
Scholes is better than Anelka.
Drogba is better than Berbatov.
So you decide who will win this game i say we will take the lead 1-0 and they will come back to 3-1
All you fans will criticise me but you dont know about football, you all probably started supporting chelsea after we bought Schevchenko and Ballack!
@ 18.The Special One
I think that Ricardo Carvalho is injured and will miss this match. cheers!!
19. Michael – okay vidic is still better than Alex, the reason we will not win is Michael Essien, Drogba does not perform against Man Utd he only scores against Arsenal for a reason i will never know but long may it continue
The Lineup:

the special one. how can you say that carrick is par to lampard and valencia is par with malouda. for me, lampard is better than carrick and malouda is better than valencia. in terms of players comparison, we are better in every department. we are better than them and we will beat them if only we concentrate well.

yes DD has a slight hernia problem, but he has had that since couple of months, and he has no problem living with it. Medicals have confirmed that he can have a minor-surgery to correct it, and for that he can wait till the season ends. So i don´t understand why are you so scared. Its definitely 100% fit DD playing tomorrow. He missed the last game only due to fatigue.
Berbatov was a good striker, but nobody rates him anymore. I were to be bit afraid of, its Park ji Sung, coz he is in some better form than Berbatov. But our physical strength and fitness would cruise us past Manures. Manures need to rest their players for the Bayern game this wednesday, so i doubt if they would be able to go to the second gear. CL brings in more money and i´m sure they´ll go for it. They can´t afford sell Rooney like they sold CR7 to cover up their debt you know. But after saying all this, we need to stay in full concentration, coz they hit hard at counter-attacks and we are vulnerable to it. Not so much worried about Terry, but alex needs to drink mugs of coffee tomorrow before the game.
I´ve a good feeling. I know it won´t be an easy game, but we will win. With DD, lamps and Malouda on form and Zhirkov showing sparks of genius, and Ballack fit and ready to run another 12 kms a game, and Cech back in GK, i am damn confident about it.
@ 20.The Special One
Chelsea is better than Manchester United on paper but games are not played on paper they played on the field. But it all depends on which Manchester United pitches up on Saturday. cheers!!
C’mon guys lets rally around the team. cheers!!
And well said Bluegenes. cheers!!
@ Kyith.
BlueChampion reads games well and probably watches as many as a pundit. This log is not biased, it favours Chelsea, but everyone will tell you players get stick when they deserve it and BC doesn’t always predict a win.
@Michael
What hernia problem?
@18 The special one, that only works if you go by fifa stats lol,
Cech makes better saves in open play than van der sar can, but on a set piece or a penalty, I would probably choose van der sar so yes I agree that they are on par.
Ferreira will be playing and he is far better than Neville having good games under his belt recently.
Terry is better than Ferdinand. Rio may have abit of pace on his side, but Terry does not make the same blunders Ferdinand does, 2-0 loss to liverpool ring a bell?
Alex is not as good as Vidic
Evra is better as a leftback than Zhirkov, but then again, we haven’t shown everything Zhirkov can do. You saw the build up to 2 penalties against villa and you know who the ref is tomorrow.
Mikel is not better than Carrick, but Carrick is not necessarily better, he has not been playing well.
Malouda is by far, a cut above any man utd midfielder right now.
Lampard is also a goalscoring power that man utd dont have in their midfield anymore
Anelka has shone where Berbatov hasn’t this season although he is not at his best right now
Drogba is the league’s second highest scorer, and he is a good striker.
I think you’re opinion on that was biased. But it is not a point to argue as ultimately, Drogba is not the player that will be tackling Berbatov. You have to ask yourself, where CAN the goals come from? On form and stats, Id say Chelsea have the upper hand.
Chelsea are on a high scoring run. Man Utd had a decent run against low opposition and then lost to better ones. Man Utd has returned with a few days less rest, their sharpest striker is injured.
Someone said something earlier about Drogba scoring few against Man Utd. He has scored though….and it was in open play. A resounding fact no Man Utd fan cares to bring up, is Chelsea have beaten Man utd more than twice as many times as the Versa since 2004. You can always smell a Man Utd fan by their arrogance.
If i were Carlo, i would use Drogba as a sub. Bring him around 50th minute. He brings hope and desire to win. And then, u will see new, fresh Chelsea, just like against the teams in FA CUP and Carling Cup matches.
hey chelsea fans, the confidence is high, the morale is high and the ‘luck’ is back with chelsea.
while trying not to sound too forward or disrespectful of other teams, when chelsea is in this mood, we win. however, whatever the outcome of the result tomorrow, i have this feeling we are going to win the league on ‘luck’, same as manutd have had over the last 3 years which apart from the pitch are more of problems with other teams injuries. recall liverpool last season and chelsea when JM was sacked.
anyway, i believe manutd will paly well in the firs half and tire out in the 2nd half and that where our fitness can come to play. van dar saar will be there saving grace and if a lethargic bayern munich can still beat manutd, i expect chelsea to win at thet death of the match.
cheers and keep the blues flag flying high and higher
we must go there with intention of winning it and manu is there for taking come on blues win it and title could be ours
@All
There is no point in arguing who is better than whom.Whatever we say here will not affect the teams playing there.
And there is no harm in being optimistic. This match will not decide the title even if Chelsea win.A lot is there to be played for.
But this a huge huge match for sure.
Hope we win this match.
Good Luck to CA and the squad for this game.
KTBFFH!!
Okay all you wonderful Chelsea people, now it’s only a few hours before the game we’ve all been waiting for. The one that will show who is the true champions. On current form, we will take home a narrow victory, let’s say 2-3, even though I cannot see who can score the manure goals. Berbatov will have to show something he hasn’t showed for the last year or more. If any manure goals I think they will come from the likes of Carrick or Evra.
We, the Chelsea Blues have plenty of free flowing goal scores. Take your pick 12 goals in 2 games; Lampard (5), Malouda (4), Drogba (2 in 1) and Kalou (1). Not to forget Deco in what resembles former form, free spreading the ball around at will. Anelka also supplying assists and getting close to scoring many goals again. Zhirkov showing what he did so well at CSKA Moscow. And I have a feeling that if Joey is playing today, he will play a great game. The back four, likely to be Terry, Alex, Ferreira and Zhirkov have shown the stability we have been lacking too many times this season. And lastly Cech is back and showed against Villa an authority required of world-class keeper.
So all in all if all the players show up today and fight like there was no tomorrow to take control of the mid-field then I cannot see manure beat us. As a matter of fact we will win, maybe even big. But I will settle for 3 points and nothing less and I do not care how we get those points.
I decided to read a couple of editorials and team of the week articles heading into this game. There’s an interesting article by Jamie Redknapp about the best playing XI from both United and Chelsea and I for one, can not imagine how he came up with this team:
———-Van Der Sar————-
-Neville—-Rio—Vidic——Evra-
–Fletcher——Scholes—-Lamps-
-Valencia—–Drogba—–Malouda
What the hell are Neville, Rio, Scholes and Valencia doing in that team ? Is he kidding himself when he says they are better than Ferreira, JT, J.Cole and Anelka ? There is no way that given form and goal-scoring permits only 3 Chelsea players to make that team and EIGHT Man United players to make it ! Crazy.
@30. trueblue: You are right my friend. This match will not decide anything in terms of the title. It will however, decide who has a psychological boost in the run up to the other games left and if there is indeed a winner from todays match, that team will be propelled further away from Arsenal ruling them out of the title-race effectively. A draw, on the other hand, will do no-one except Arsenal any good.
Heres hoping for Chelsea thumping United all the way. 3-0 say’s me.
KTBFFH !!
Greetings my BLUE family. Everything is set and ready to rumble. Forget tactics, forget previous form or goal stats. This is a game where worthy winners will thrive above the rest to claim the points. Its a game where mental strength and belief will be the main fuel for success. No doubt it will be intense, there will be pushing and shoving, there will be cards, and they will be boos and jeers. I do pray very hard for the officials not to be in the headlines yet again, but that will need a miracle itself. May the best team wins…. well in that case, CHELSEA OF COURSE!!!! KTBFFH!
chelsea starting wif the same team as tt against villa…cmon blkues lets win !
Yes, we did it…Carlo did the right thing to bench the Drogba… He is a winner… Congrats to Chelsea and All the Fans around the world
yesss…..we did it! yesss……..we did it!!!
now only 5 more to go guys. We can celebrate today, but we need to be patient. We can win the title! We can win the title!!!
beautyfull!!!!!………………………………..
what a game. although not full of full sparks it was enough to get my heart beating faster.
if at all anything i want all chelsea fans to believe in, is that ‘luck’ is fully on our side. a team without ‘luck’ even with the best players, coach or tactics is naught. so from now on, its the result that matters not whether who played well, not whether substitution was good, its all about ‘luck’. the day we draw, our rivals will either draw or lose too.
the best result was for chelsea to win and make the league more competitive now!!
cheers
The press is currently falling over each other using the word controversial as it was the only word to describe Chelsea disposal of manure.
Who gives a fuck we won and we are 2 points clear at the top.
ROLLED RIGHT ALONG MACHEDA’s CHEST AND THEN ALONG HIS ARM WHICH HE STUCK OUT
cancels out the offside

Have a bit of respect mate. You don’t know fuck about anyone here, for you to come with a comment like the above.
good game and great game.. !!!!!!!!!! Lets go to Winner Premier League.
@ 18. The Special One
suck it moron , Lampard is way better than any player in man utd right now
KTBFFH
:D I just won a tenner on this…..great feeling.
Joe Cole’s goal was the cheekiest thing you could imagine, but you can’t take anything away from him. Neville was marking his tail, Malouda pulled the amazing Ferdinand and Vidic out of position allowing cole to rotate and heel the ball into the net behind van der sar and evra. Poor defending, great attacking, memorable goal.
Both teams had shouts for penalties and man utd were very lucky not to finish the game with 9 men, scholes and neville should both of been sent off I felt. Scholes challenge on Malouda as he broke away was ridiculous and reds are usually given for a tackle with two feet off the ground, studs up, no ball and no chance of winning. Neville had one of the worst. He didn’t even attempt to get the ball from Anelka that time, he just pushed him away from the ball so it would roll to Ferdinand.
Call me cocky if you like, but today and on paper, Chelsea were better. There is no point arguing about Drogba, he was offside, Macheda never even touched the ball with his chest, you can see him use his arm to make sure it went in. But I wouldn’t moan because I felt even if he was a tad crazy, the ref was most certainly fair, consistant and unbiased.
Good points; ball moved quickly and consistantly, defensively, we put on the ‘dogged’ display we were renowned for. We threw bodies in front of the ball and it paid off as it should. I think defensively, Chelsea had lost confidence, there were games when Terry wouldn’t make that acrobatic slide but now, especially after Villa and now today, its gone.
Bad points: this is a big one, the running. We are not penetrating the box enough. It is good when we are cruising, but if we break away, players like anelka should be on the shoulder of a defender looking to get played in, it isn’t happening enough and the times players do get that space (like Lampard on the right wing in dying moments today) the ball doesn’t come. I’m also going to have a moan about shooting from outside the box. We are not aggressive enough and it bogs down the 12yard line. If we took pops at van der sar from the edge of the area, defenders would have to close us down and it would open space behind them which we could do with.
Otherwise, not an impressive, but an efficient display from Chelsea. I don’t have a clue what some people were saying about us before. Today I saw what looked like a very classless, hot headed man utd. Fergie made very poor choices to be fair, everyone knew neville would get turned inside out as a huge weak link. I was surprised he didn’t put Giggs in central midfield instead of Scholes and play i on the left. Surely after the community shield, the 1-0 loss in London and now, Fergie knows more than ever his squad is not as great as fans try to make out.
We need a player that will hit the ball accurately outside the box and who can run past defenders on the break, Kalou was the only player who came close to being that for me today.
Very good lineup by Carlo, letting Anelka start instead of Drogba messed up the man utd game plan and when he did play, we were already 1-0 up. Joey on the right was a good move, subbing Kalou in on the right was a good move, Deco and Ballack’s use was very ideal. It was great to watch apart from the nailbiting minutes after macheda scored.
Well, we have dominated last seasons champions, beating them 3 times in the last 3 matches. Carlo just needs to keep us scoring 2+ goals a game. Liverpool is my last worry for a ‘blip’, other than that, it isn’t easy but it is very simple from here and ashley cole could return this month with essien! KTBFFH!
Almost as much as I’m enjoying our victory today, am I enjoying Sir Rednoses fuming at the officials. Maybe his bribing of the refs aren’t working anymore. Noticed he did not get extra time until manure scored an equaliser. How often do one see that at OT.
Get used to it manure, we are the better team and we won fair and square. Some ref decisions you get some you don’t ( we should know, remember Mr Øvrebo)
spot on with your prediction BC. great post as well.
that goal from Joe was a thing of beauty. didiers goal should not have been a goal though, and the linesman should have called it back. with macheda, mike dean was screened by several players, so although it was a handball, the ref had an excuse not to disallow it. I think we got off really lucky, but we controlled the game for all but 15 minutes and we deserved all 3 points.
I said if we rally around the team and then we will win. I was right thank you. But don’t celebrate to soon, we still need to get through another five matches. cheers!!
@Michael
Glad you had to eat the pie – the humble one
@The special one
You don’t need to know football, to make out that games are not won on paper. By the way, we do win it on paper too.
Meet the Chelsea ‘Oracle’
A standing applause for BC. You are having one heck of a run in predictions.
Err….. the goals sequence – a technical glitch nonetheless ;)
YOUR THE BEST CHELSEA WE WANT TO SEE U ON TOP OF THE LADDER PLZZ CME ON MAN U SUCKS
:) CHELSEA CME ON CHELSEA :)
Chelsea was tactically spot-on. Ferguson was outclassed.
Anelka playing deep to link-up play; Malouda and Cole having fluid positions and coming in to the centre pulled Neville and Evra out of position. And that allowed Paulo to make those great runs up the right!
Park was pushed up front, which led to Chelsea dominating the midfield with an extra man, especially with hardworking Mikel!
And the Drogba for Anelka sub was spot-on. Man U were pushing up the field more and keeping pressure on Chelsea, so putting in Drogba who’s tough and can hold the ball – wow.
Great job Ancelotti, great job chelsea!
i can see some manu fans wearing chelsea jersey here….
How on earth Carrick is on Par with Lampard
gr8 result for chels…
in first half we were undoubtably the better side…,in second we give them have the ball..,we didnt really push for the second..,had some heart in mouth moments.,
Drogba s goal was offside,Macheda’s hand ball..,
@ 26.TruePlatinum BlueGenes expalained the hernia problem nicely.
@ 48.Chelsito I did change my mind and therefore backed Chelsea to win the match. cheers!!
