We’re back. It’s great when your favourable predictions come good. The match kicked off at 15:00. At exactly 15:02, I dropped a one liner in BC Shout “I know it’s only two minutes but I think we are playing well and we will win”. At half time, in response to my cousin’s message about this being a nervy match, I texted him “We’re playing well . . we will win BIG”. When we went 3-1 ahead, I texted my friend that we won’t stop and we’ll score two more. At 5-1, I said we’ll score two more! We bloody did! 7 goals against the meanest defence in this league this season!
This is how I ended the last blog – “A resounding win over Aston Villa could put us right back on track. Carlo needs to choose the right team and play the right tactic. Villa at Stamford Bridge is beatable.” Exactly, this resounding win over Aston Villa has put us right back on track!
Aston Villa are a tricky team to play at this stage of the season. We’ve had inconsistent results against Villa in the last few seasons. There have been matches where we have been beaten fair and square at Villa Park and we’ve also taught them some lessons in Stamford Bridge (that 2-0 under Scolari). I’m kinda confident about the smaller teams and the real rivals. It is the likes of Villa, Spurs, Man City, Everton etc that make me nervous. Especially, Martin O Neill’s teams are always not easy to play against. And I don’t know if this was his worst ever defeat. I heard that this was the heaviest defeat for Villa in the last 45 years or something.
Credit to Ancelotti for the spirit shown by Chelsea on the pitch. It was clear that he wanted us to have a go at Aston Villa. Carlo, like us, has been waiting to see a strong reaction from Chelsea for the recents downs and also to show everyone that we’re very serious about the premier league title. It is our approach and handling of the match in the first few minutes that made me believe that we are winning this one. I was happy that he played a 4-3-3 instead of playing a 4-4-2. If we want to demolish oppositions, 4-3-3 is the way to go. If we want control, we go with 4-4-2.
Only last week I had mentioned that players like Joe Cole should get a start if we want to get the best out of them. Today, both Joe Cole and Deco started the match. And these ball players really settled to the pace of the game and they were a joy to watch when they play like that. Joe Cole was good but his performance was made to look better because of Deco and Lampard and also the fact that we got a big win. I’m yet to see a 8/10 performance from him this season.
Let’s spare a moment for Paulo Ferreira. The man’s been doing really really well both in defence as well as in attack. I must say I haven’t really missed Bosingwa as much as I have missed Ivanovic. But Paulo has done a superb job. He keeps showing what a thorough defender he is and how reliable he is. Patrick van Aanholt got his minutes again. The boy looks big and strong. With the little I’ve seen of him, he is very promising, particularly in offence.
In a match where we scored 7 goals which also included a goal by the sub Kalou, Anelka couldn’t score one for himself. But fair play to him, he played really well. His contribution as a lone striker was much better than when he plays second fiddle to Drogba. Also Lampard seemed to relish playing behind a lone striker rather than a pair. Traditionally, Lampard’s best performances for Chelsea have come when he plays in a 4-3-3 rather than 4-4-2.
The age-old debate of whether we play our best football when Drogba is away would be resumed today. In the six league games that Drogba did not start, we have scored 25 goals! This is not a ‘who is better’ discussion. This shows the kind of options that are available for me. In any big game, any game against the rivals, I absolutely love to see Drogba in the line up because I’m not keen about us scoring 4 goals. All I want is a win against the rivals. Drogba would be well rested and be raring to go against Man Utd next weekend.
I’ve already run out of superlatives for Frank Lampard. You know how big a fan I’m of Lampard. To be honest, in the middle of this season, he did produce a few off-colour performances. You can always bet on Lampard to turn it around and silence his critics. He’s done that time and again. He still get a lot of flak from the supporters of the Red clubs but deep down they would acknowledge what a fine player he is. His performance today was really a masterclass in attacking midfield play. It’s great to have Lampard is the best of spirits ahead of the Man Utd game because as we say ‘when Lampard plays well, Chelsea wins’.
I’m only getting more convinced that Florent Malouda is the ‘Chelsea player of the season’. Is the best left winger in England? A win doesn’t seem to taste as much without a goal from Flo. With their super quick feet and skills, Zhirkov and Malouda can be quite a headache for any defence. While Zhirkov was at fault for the Carew goal, he more than made up for it with the two penalty wins. He may not quite get this kind of freedom against the Reds next weekend. That’ll be a real test for him. Would be interesting to see how he copes up.
When a team can beat a champions league spot contender with a 7-1 scoreline at this stage of the season that must be the best performance of this league season. In this season, no team has dismissed any other with such authority, style and ease. Now Chelsea are the perfect frame of mind to visit Old Trafford and have about a week to rest and prepare while Man Utd will have to play Bayern in the mid-week. With this big win, we’re now miles ahead of our rivals in the goal difference column. While at one point, this season looked like crumbling in front of our eyes, it’s fair to say that we’ve not only resurrected but also put ourselves in a superb spot for a shot at the title.
If Chelsea thrashing Villa 7-1 wasn’t enough, the stoppage time equaliser by Birmingham sent me crazy! Believe, at around half time, I was telling my friend that Brum will score in the stoppage time. Not that I’ve suddenly become a master predictor, it’s just that today seems to be my day!

sadly manures thrashed bolton 4 – 0. We must win at OT!
Fantastic post BC, I especially like the credit you gave to Ferreira. He may not have been at his best today, but still I find him rock solid and reliable.
As to Joey, no comments. Rest of the team played outstanding with Lampard, Malouda and Deco orchestrating the sweet symphony football can be at its best.
The last 2 wins is a great set-up for the OT game next weekend.
I hope we will see no over-cockiness and complacency in the newspapers etc. during the next 7 days. Last time we had a brilliant spell, too many people (players, management and fans) came out talking as if the EPL had already been won. As we all remember, that came horribly back to haunt us.
I want us to enjoy the great win today and especially the way we won with the best attacking football seen for a very long time. Thereafter I want a subtle preparation for April 3rd, where I hope we will force manure to rename the Theatre of Dreams to the Theatre of Nightmares.
Up chelsea, u can do it just go to old traford and beat them…when my man is back on training {essien}
Great game and great result! This have to elevate the moral and confidence in our game ., i think drogba have to start at OT because man utd pressure our midfield and he create spaces,,
BC, I hope your psychic abilities hold true and Chelsea win the title! I didn’t get to watch the game but very happy to see a 7-1 win. It will be tough to be Man United at OT next week. We need to play that game to win, instead of playing not to lose. What formation and team selection do you think we’ll see next week?
3 things (in my personal view) anyone noticed?:
- Deco brings some impressive first touch passes you dont currently get from any other Chelsea player that would suit Drogba like a charm but not Anelka. With Lampard and Ballack in their 30s and Deco looking to get away and no youngsters raising up to this area maybe is this should be the nº1 priority for reinforcement?
- Nico seems to keep the ball very well but lacks Drogba killer instintc to go for the goal.
- Mikel seems to be trapped between offensive and defensive. Not so red card prone as before but seems afraid of straying passes and keeps it (too) safe.
What more can i say..Chelsea simply over-killed it..Thank God for that..Man Utd,here we come
Go Chelsea Go!! I loved the game, when Villa equalised, my heart sank, but I am glad Chelsea picked up their courage and blew them away!
hey guys ,this iz time to kick manu’s asss…. come on blues… u can do it…
big test against United next Saturday…
as I watched Bolton-United….United played diagonal ball to their both flanks (Nani&Valencia)..It will be a big test to our fullbacks to coup this….also remember and notice with the bully and irritating play by Fletcher…this guy will try to destroy our midfield concert….Ivanovic and Ballack have to start at the right side to cope this….
if Joe Cole start …he have to keep Evra busy….@ the left …you know who will try to keep Neville busy….
and the most important thing……the key is ‘the hunger’….just like our lads did last night against Villa…
I really2 miss the time when Chelsea trashed Man United in their backyard….
…up the Chels….
Based on the performace against villa,I think the starting team for next weekend match against Man u should be
Cech
Ferriera/Ivanovic Alex Terry Zhirkov
Mikel
Deco Lampard
Jcole Drogba Malouda
Subs:Anelka,Ballack,Kalou,Bruma
Reasons:Start Deco over Ballack=deco played well against villa,gd first touches, possess creativity to beat man u players and provide defence breaking ball.
Jcole ahead of Anelka:jcole played well against villa,he will threaten evra and give him lesws room to attack.
chelsea have to prevent fletcher from breaking our midfield.evra from pushing forward too much, park jisung and valencia/nani from crossing too much…
Main threat:ROONEY..alex and terry must silent him throughout the game.Chelsea to play like how they play against villa,MORE HUNGER,STRENGTH…etc…Anelka and ballack to come in later in the game for more stability when chelsea is leading
good job Chelsea
Blues have reignited hopes and I strongly hope that they come out winners against Mancheaters United next week
go on chels!! lets bring the prem back to the bridge!!

Very true and why Drogba has to start but I’m not happy about dropping Anelka this time cause he helped the midfield alot however it seems like he’ll just replace Joe Cole even though I want him at old trafford.
I have to be honest, I don’t watch any of the matches I just watch the 30 second highlights package. But I saw all 8 xciting goals.
When is Chelsea going to buy Gareth Bale?Get a couple younger players, not youth but a couple of mature adults?
Inconsistent – Classic Chelsea leaving everything to the last minute only waking up now rather sooner than later as I would read it.
TruePlatinum – Anyway I am currently a politician in the Banana Republic. The last time we spoke you offended me by saying that Titus Bramble played like Jesus in a Wigan shirt. Must’ve been sooo sad when Cheslsea lost to Jose’s team in CL TruePlatinum did you cry me a river tough guy? How you doin? What have you been up to? cheers
Firstly, I may sound like a pedantic person but just purely on what I’ve seen of football…. 4-3-3 works when you have certain players and we haven’t made the formation work well and consistently since Mourinho. Diamond is Ancelotti’s specialty and we should be playing it the majority of the time.
Our passing is so much faster and has miles more fluidity since Ancelotti came in and there is no use putting that ethos into practice if you have 1 less body in the box to give the ball to. The game that really showed it was the Community Shield win. Man Utd simply were not prepared for us. Has Ancelotti masterminded using diamond only now? Doubt it, but it would be a good decision to stick with it for next weekend.
When we play diamond or ‘the tree’, anelka and lampard seem to share that attacking midfield role. Anelka is brilliant as a support striker and is not greedy, he comes back into the middle of the pitch to help open space for Lampard, he isn’t too good making the space for himself, but he is effective in the middle with another striker. Hopefully Anelka is now on good form, Drogba has had a rest, Lampard is scoring again, we have Van Aanholt starting to establish himself as another option for Chelsea. Yesterday was just a great win for so many reasons.
Zhirkov had a good game, got foward well which is what we need from him and ferreira, although unspectacular, is solid and reliable at the very least. Zhirkov did put in some dives, and I don’t excuse it, but if a Zhirkov dive wins us the premiership…..I’d be a fool not to take it wouldn’t I
Fergie rested Ferdinand and Rooney. He is blatantly concerned about the team he thinks relies on 2 players and the title rivals. Bayern at the very least could tire Man Utd. Fergie knows it, Ferdinand is not fully fit nor on form and rooney is running ragged, now this week we are going to see what the champions league really does to you. Can’t wait for the weekend
i can tel u nxt game against utd is not a challenge at all cos will win fair nd square….da challenge is can we win all da nxt gamez left…if we cn du dt will win da league…let me say if we win all our games startn wit man utd wil win da premier league…simple as dat.evry game from now must be a must win evn if man utd drop points we must kip on winning…plss chelsea…nxtwik game against utd chelsea will win 1 nil bt if we hv luck wil win 2 nil but i feel wel not consit a goal…
Chelsea’s home form was never a concern but I don’t think anyone saw this coming. Its the away form that could cost Chelsea the title but atleast the morale and spirit should be back up after this win over a good Aston Villa side.
the Next gme is not must win.. is MUST NOT LOSE…., draw is ok, with 87pts we will bi champions
Can we celebrate yet?lol
Brilliant
The perfect training for OT, especially becase MU have got to go to Germany :D
We will beat Manchester if we keep this mood and class……unbelievable…I almost cried when Chelsea scored and Drogba was on the sideline…. this team deserves to win EPL this season…
Great post BC, thanks to Chelsea for making you write such a beautiful post.
I have nothing much to say about the match, we did everything perfectly well.
Paulo’s crosses were great: low and accurate!
Anelka did very well and deserved a goal himself and he also helped Drogba get a required rest.
Lampsy’s got 21 even before the end of the season while we all were praying that he would get 20+ at the end of the season. I loved his penalties (a bullet and a perfect placement), and Zhirkov’s got to be thanked! Lampsy, after the hat trick was really setting up for his team mates, his lay off for malouda is a pure class of team work. He took the fourth goal because he couldn’t delay and waste such a chance by looking for a team mate.
Only thing that I want Carlo to change is to bring in substitutes when we were leading by a huge margin. At 4:1 I was literally shouting at the TV to bring in Sturridge for Malouda and Aanholt for Zhirkov and also Ballack for Joey (he played quite okay but wasted a clear chance of counter-attack for us). Deco had a superb game, I am hopeful he will bring the same flair this Saturday!
I am happy that Aanholt got his chance again because he said that it would be nice if he can play few more games this season.
It rained at the Bridge, it rained heavily, Brad Friedel knows it best! ;)
I was also hoping to see Turnbull on for Cech!
Lampsy had reached 151 goals, he is the third.
Oh, Mike Dean will be the referee at OT this Saturday…i am not comfortable!
He is the one who had sent Belletti and Ballack off against mancs, he is also the one who made Frank Lampard take a penalty three times.
Lets hope our old boy destroys Maure tonight!!
If this was any other footballing season, then today/tomorrow night would be a night where we all would be glued to the television sets the whole time, cheering our beloved blues ! I think we would comfortably beat a team like CSKA Moscow had we qualified. However, I don’t think the same can be said about a team like Inter. I have a feeling that this is the point of the tournament where they will be eliminated but a structured and well-organized team like CSKA. The Mourinho-factor and the hype certainly distracted our team from a task which would otherwise have been very much doable.
I think the main player from Bayern who will cause a lot of trouble to the United defense is not Ribery but a certain Miroslav Klose. I think this guy has an incredible scoring mind and can get himself into brilliant positions to score a goal. If United doesn’t handle him, I feel Bayern can win this 2-0 (or maybe 2-1….their defense is not the same without Lucio).
Hoping that the week zooms by, and looking forward to the weekend.
KTBFFH !!
Meet out New goalkeeper:
http://www.chelseafc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10268~2009298,00.html
Man Utd lost 2-1. And Rooney is injured, the weekend is suddenly tipped in our favour
forget about rooney injured or nt….serioiusly i am more concerned of chelsea playing like how they did against aston villa..if chelsea can motivate themselves fight hard…theres no game impossible for them me to win..cmon chelsea ..go for the win!!!!!!!!!!ancelotti…go for tactics right and forrmation aswell as selection right
26. Lampard and the Blues,
You are absolutely right! Inter would be as inefective as they were last season against manure…i would fancy CSKA Moskva to go through!
29. Jo,
I like the faith and believe that you have in Chelsea, but we cannot certainly rule out the excitement in rooney’s injury, it means a lot to us!
Chelsea have shown that they are true championship contenders. thrashing villa 7-1 is a clear demonstration of the depth in the squad. they are just in a destructive mood. they are on the roll. wwwatch out man united. The blues for life!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have always said this time and again that United are nothing without their talismanic forward, Wayne Rooney. They depend too much on this guy. He creates opportunities for them when any game is beyond their reach and drives the team on with his energy and control and mesmerizing passes. Without Wayne, United are a mid-table team at best with the form of their other players.
That said, I don’t think we can underestimate them at Old Trafford. They are spurred by their home support and time and again we have seen how decisions go their way over there. Mike Dean being the referee does not make it any better for us I am afraid.
However, in Malouda and Lampard and Drogba we have a bunch of players who are at peak form and can destroy any defense if they have their way. I feel if we can exploit United right-hand defense (that is, our left sided attack) by pitting Malouda against Neville or Rafael or Brown, we can take the lead in the first 20 minutes and take control of the midfield area. This will allow us to provide Drogba with better deliveries and chances and we are more likely then to get a second and see the game through.
Can’t wait for Saturday. Bring on United.
KTBFFH !!
I don’t think Rooney’s injury will affect manu rather i will say it will affect ENGLAND. That said, the temptation for chelsea to be over confident at old trafford is there and i say why not. this is not a time to be cautious, its all or nothing and i think that is the spirit we should play with..attack and attack.
the other threat is van der saar, however as much as he tried against bayern, he still conceded. so probably nothing to worry much about.
my word if Malouda, lampard play in this current form along with drogba and anelka (and also the ‘luck’ that is back on our side), i think it should be an interesting outcome. A draw may be acceptable and i think most of us will take that if offered to us now however a win will be massive, massive!!
I don´t understand why people are saying draw is acceptable. This could be our only chance to overtake Manures in the table, therefore a win is must. If we fail to win this week, then we may as well forget the premiership. And we need the PREMIERSHIP TITLE not PREMIERSHIT!!!
You can’t just ignore a key factor. Every pundit in the world would have mentioned Wayne Rooney at some point in their ideas leading up to the match.
Our defence may be low on numbers, but man utd have Berbatov for a fit striker. They have to almost without a doubt, go 4-3-3, you saw the amount of trouble ribery and altintop caused. I think Malouda has played far better than Ribery this season and recent results would suggest Joe Cole will perform at Old Trafford as always.
Can’t wait to see Man Utd beaten down
Rooney or No Rooney, we win only if we score.. When Man U came to Bridge, they played with Brown and Evan and it took 70 odd mins to find a winner. I don’t think Vandersaar also started that game.. This time it is Vidic & Vandersar. We have to find a way to score.. That is my first worry.
Second worry is that Man U midfield will not switch off two games in a row. They would have got the right treatment yesterday.. My guess is Fergie will be playing Valencia , Berbatov and Giggs in front three and Carrick , Park and Flecther in central midfield..
Deco was shut off completely in the game at Bridge . I hope he has agood game because along with Lampard , he can deliver that killer pass .. Drogba has not scored againt Man U since 2007 FA cup final and we have not won at Old Trafford since 2005 ( 1-0,1-1,2-0,3-0) .. A draw , Man U will win premiership because they have very kind draw afterwards.. Hope we play better than last season, when it was humilation.
Never forget.. Rooney is not just a striker for Manchester…. He is much more than that …
manur is still manure.. but get it straight .. he has been pulling them along! and honestly with out him… the other strikers are not as effective.. face it
im hoping this will give drog time to pass him and stay ahead.. remember roo toke over when drog went off to ACN.
The ManUre have had a tiring week. Collectively they will not be as fresh as Chelsea with or without Rooney.
I believe a high tempo game against them is in order to wear them down .
It wont be beautiful but Chelsea just needs to be composed, effective and quick cos I guess Sir Red-nose will go for a draw !
Didier has a injury and is doubtfull
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1262685/Chelsea-sweating-fitness-Didier-Drogba-ahead-crucial-showdown-Manchester-United.html
We should feel confident, and go out all guns blazing against united. This is a must win match for us, not a game where we just shouldn’t lose. Remember last season when liverpool were on the trail on man utd and they had to win at old trafford in order to cut the gap, they did so in such a tremendous fashion by winning 4-1. I’m not saying we should produce such a scoreline (although I would welcome it with open arms) we just need to realize the importance of this game and step up to the occassion. We have been lucky in finding out that rooney will miss the game as he is practically man utd at this point. However, we shouldn’t underestimate man utd no matter what, and hopefully, come saturday, we will prevail. Blue4lyfe….
Van der Sar did play in the 1-0 win. Can’t strictly rely on that because players like Evans should of been sent off for kicking Drogba in the ribs and Terry could well have given away a penalty when he pulled down Valencia.
Firstly, yes Maysam, Chelsea fan first, England fan second, as long as he is fit and in form for the world cup, I’m happy.
Fergie can’t use gary neville or malouda will rip open man utd all day.
——————Van Der Sar—————–
Rafael——Ferdinand——Vidic——–Evra
———————Carrick——————–
—————-Park——–Scholes———–
Valencia———————————-Giggs
——————–Berbatov——————–
If you ask me, this team shouldn’t be an issue for Chelsea. Inexperienced rightback, off form centrebacks, irratic leftback, butter fingers goalie. You think Carrick, Park and Scholes are an issue for Chelsea? Behave yourselves. Valencia is making assists, not scoring himself and how many goals is Dimitar scoring? from his head? Outside the box? How good is he with his back to the goal? How quick is he? Fergie, has a team that will just about see off the rest of the league, and they will fight for a result, but we are in far better position for a win.
No Rooney means they have no-one who will run back to the box and bring the ball up, the this team….on paper….cannot counter attack across the length of the pitch. They can pounce on a bad pass, but this team cannot do us for pace. Man Utd have lost the guy who was creating and scoring the goals. They can still get a few from elsewhere, but Chelsea won’t give up the kind of tap ins Berbatov has been having. I think alot of our midfielders will have good games. I tip Joey, Malouda and Lampard to run riot.
In the Bayern game, since the Rooney goal (which even then might of only happened because mr face mask slipped…demechellis?) Man Utd were just outplayed constantly and to be honest, should have been many more. Ribery was having a waltz every time Gary Neville challneged, Franck left him in the dust but then failed to just make the simple ball to put it on someones head with the goal gaping.
We are alot better tuned than Bayern and more importantly, we are scoring alot of goals. Our defence is still very tight but we have a far better midfield and we have more goalscoring ability. I pray Gary Neville and Nani starts because we would truly have a field day. If we run the ball like we did against Villa, we will destroy Man Utd at Old Trafford which works just nice for me as I haven’t gotten over our 3-0 loss under Scolari.
Even if we ignore all of that, man utd have been playing 4-3-3 with Rooney, not Berbatov. Theres all this talk of Berbatov’s pedigree, in all his time at Man Utd, after all the slating he gets, he is now expected to hold up the ball and be the pivot of offensive play against the highest scoring team this season? Nah mate, not happening.

With this formation, provided Ballack makes some good ranged passes and Joey tracks back but stays wide, we should find ourselves 3 on 4/ 4 on 4 alot. I’d rest Mikel as Man Utd don’t have the fastest team to play with right now, I fully expect Carlo to start him though. Scholes is old and not great with defending, Carrick has good range on his passing and Park keeps running though mindless at times, I think provided we do everything to keep the ball out of our own net, we might just be looking at a 2/3 goal win this weekend
42. TruePlatinum,
I think manure’s first 11 would be like this:
——————Van Der Sar—————–—-
Rafael——Ferdinand——Vidic——–Evra
————————Fletcher—–—————–
—————-Park–——–Carrick——–—–
Valencia—————————–——-Giggs
——————–Berbatov————-———–
And i want ours to be:
——————-—Cech——————-—
Ferreira—–Alex—–Terry—–Zhirkov
—————–—–Mikel————–——- (better than Ballack)
——–Deco–————-Lampard——– (Deco, he had a good game against Villa; Lampard on the left side, no diamond)
Anelka——–Drogba——-—Malouda (Nico if he plays badly, make way for Joey or Deco as Ballack takes Deco’s place)
Your analysis made me feel very good, it produced positive energy in me!
If we go 4-3-3 (which I hope you don’t Carlo) I’d prefer Joey to start on the right instead of anelka. Joey should at least have the positioning down better than Anelka. I’d want to try Ballack as defensive midfielder. If Joey gets to the byline alot, ferreira won’t have to travel so far up pitch, same for malouda and zhirkov, then ballack wouldn’t have to worry about running to cut out the ball because the fullbacks are next to him, then he can concentrate on picking out the passes that mikel tends not too unless left for a long time. Makelele used to do it, Essien can do it, Mikel rarely does it, those long defence splitting passes over the top. Mikel did it in 1-1 draw under scolari, he has done it recently with drogba, he has the ability to loft a good ball to the other end of the pitch, but we don’t exploit that enough so maybe putting a known distance shooter in that role instead, would attract some attention and ease pressure just enough to give someone like anelka that extra metre to put a vital touch on the ball.
But thanks Karma mate
Like Denver says, if Drogba wants the golden boot, hes gotta fight for it, starting now while Rooney is off injured.
This weekend is a perfect setting for Drogba to show Berbatov the difference between being a class hitman and class as a hitman
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11668_6068992,00.html
knew it was all nonsense, how do you pick up a knock in a game you finish, rest for neearly 2 weeks and not start!? Better get a hat trick as well
NEWSFLASH: DROGBA SET TO START
Posted on: Thu 01 Apr 2010
Carlo Ancelotti has indicated he will return Didier Drogba to the starting line-up against Manchester United on Saturday.
The Ivorian striker was rested from the 7-1 win over Aston Villa last weekend and missed two days of training this week following an accidental kick on the knee from Yury Zhirkov.
However he trained well today (Thursday) and will be fit to play.
Juliano Belletti is the only new player added to the squad after injury. He has returned from Brazil where he underwent treatment on a knee problem and is fully recovered
Drogba Belletti back, our squad only missing Essien and Cole who should be (i hope) fit for Liverpool.
I think this is the strongest Man Utd squad I have ever seen in a long time. I saw the match with Man Utd and Liverpool at Old Trafford this season and I saw one weakness in the Man Utd armour. They can’t perform when it really matters against decent opposition and I’m talking about a top European club ie. Madrid, Barca, Liverpool. Unless the opposing team presses the self destruct button. But unfortuantely I see Man Utd winning this match as this Chelsea team is not as strong as the ones that won the season in 04/05 and 05/06 seasons.
There’s two much pressure on some players during these type of crunch matches. We saw at Inter how Lampard was invisible and Malouda tried his half chances. Drogba is always expected to score during these type of deciders and I think that this is unfair.
I don’t know how you guys can even comtemplate watching a Chelsesa win. cheers!!
If it is the strongest man utd squad you’ve ever seen, you can’t of been around very long dude
Don’t need a Chelsea fan to tell you that
LOL@No.48 TruePlatinum:
Well said, very well said mate.
Just like to add that if Carrick starts for ManU, then our chances will be more than good. Watch his game, he is a liability for them all season and how he did not get the sticks from the media after the Bayern game is just totally shocking. I do suspect that the old fox fergie might try to mix it up and bring in some young blood such as Macheda and Gibson to confuse the tactics. But never the less, I have high expectations on Carlo’s tactics. I think he has finally manage to explore the other side of Chelsea during the last two games and is braver now to move the team forward. Ballack will be our answer to Fletcher, and Mikel to manage Park. Not being greedy but 2-0 win to Chelsea is achievable. May we paint Old Trafford BLUE.

Did you see how Man Utd demolished AC Milan at Old Traford in the second leg of the round of 16 in the champions league. It was a one sided match against a competant AC Milan team. I mean thrashed buddy. Then they go and play a mediocre match against Liverpool. I am not a betting man, but I’m going to go for a win for Man Utd this weekend. But it all depends upon which Man Utd side shows up on Saturday. cheers!!
Yeah mate, I do get you. Man Utd is not as even as it used to be. When Man Utd had Tevez, Rooney was not scoring as many but the rest of the team was getting on the scoresheet. They aren’t doing that for me anymore. They aren’t the same on set pieces without Ronaldo who put free kicks and headers away for fun. Man Utd are in a transition just like us but it is papered with youngsters. I think Man Utd is a team of disciplined players, not necessarily gifted ones. I’ll always say every player works well together for man utd. But basically, man utd’s midfield and striking department is not balanced and if Berbatov can’t do the job, Man Utd will lose. Drogba is on fire like Rooney was and the team is on a high scoring run of form, man utd have just flown back from Germany having lost the game and Rooney…..sure you wanna put it on Man Utd?
Having said all of that, if Chelsea play to their potetential should beat Manchester United this weekend. cheers
TruePlatinum, It would be hilarious to see Manutd not starting with fletcher (a big game player). Hence I think Karma’s squad seems more probable. Also, joe cole won’t be travelling so Karma seems right with that chelsea line up too. I agree with GipsyBlue when he says carrick has been poor for Manutd this season. I think they are missing Anderson big time, keeping in mind his performance at the bridge last time around. I expect Fergie to clog the midfield disallowing any space or freedom to Deco and Lampard. Its all pointing to be one hell of a bore game, as it has always been with the two teams.
I would be so happy to see Neville starting for Manutd. I think the left flank could again be the chelsea savior. But I would be fooling myself, if I say Zhirkov would be allowed those overlapping run of his. And hence Malouda and Lampard need to put that extra mile into their game. Defensively it would be important to check the runs of Nani, Valencia, and Evra. Zhirkov and Ferreira do really bother me with their susceptible defence. Hence Ballack on the right for Deco won’t surprise me.
53. chelsito,
Yeah, Carrick is a lot easier opponent than Fletcher who is somewhat like mascherano. I too wish gary to start which means a lot of advantage for the like of Malouda, Zhirkov and Lampsy, but whoever comes on their right defence will have a tough time. One thing which worries me is their left defender and we must come up strong in Nico and Deco to make our right flank as effective as the left. I am sure they will close fast on our midfield, but we must have a plan B and swap positions to confuse them. Like Nico drifting to the left and Lampsy falling bit deep to collect the ball and pick the front men with his pin-point passes.
I am all hopeful because their hit man is out and berbatov will be worried too much with the responsibility (after the media hype saying he must step up now) that he might perform badly.
In Chelsea, i believe…GO BLUES GO!
chelsea is the best 4 ever : arsenal-chelsea 0-3 , chelsea-arsenal 2-0 , chelsea-man.utd 1-0 , man.utd-chelsea 1-2 , chelsea-liverpool 2-0 , now we have to wait to play with liverpool in liverpool ..:D:D byee from dardan kosovo
