Truly, it was a brilliant football match. I enjoyed the match but not the result. I thought Inter truly deserved their victory. Our ill-luck with the champions league continues – a penalty (which Jose himself agreed) in the first leg and two penalties in the second leg – very sad and also scandalous. But despite these incidents, over a two-legged tie, I think Inter deserved to go through. Chelsea didn’t play particularly well in either of the legs though they were marginally better in the first leg, while Inter turned up in the second leg and made use of their wild cards to win the tie.
TSO was right. He doesn’t lose at Stamford Bridge. He said he will kill Chelsea and that’s what he’s done. Not many teams do a double over Chelsea in champions league knockout stages, not even Barcelona. The team he put out against Chelsea was a surprise. Starting with three strikers, he ensured that the full backs are always busy and worried. Even the way Inter played this game must have been surprise to some. Lazy journalists were saying that Inter will park the bus but they played intelligent football. They played out the first half playing second best and came out to hit us back in the second half.
Here is the declaration from Jose Mourinho:
We were the best team by far. Chelsea is a great team, we know that and my team came here knowing very well how they play. We knew if we did not control the game by having the ball we would have no chance. We had the ball and we created the best chances and we should have scored before the goal. When we did score, Chelsea were completely out of the game. I thought everything was superior, not just our tactics but our attitude on the pitch.
Carlo Ancelotti paid the price for sticking with the out-of-form Anelka. The Frenchman has been playing poorly for three months now. Why would you start him for such an important match as this? Purely on form, Kalou deserves to play ahead of Anelka. As luck would have it, the best chances fell for Anelka, whose rustiness and lack of sharpness meant corners and goalkicks instead of goals. Ballack starting the match was also a surprise. When we need to win a match at home, I’d have started Joe Cole in place of Ballack. Carlo’s choice of Ballack over Joe Cole showed that he was under pressure.
Carlo had no choice but to admit that we were second best:
We didn’t play how we wanted. They put pressure on our midfielders so we had difficulties playing. Inter played a very good game, with strong defence and good counter-attack. We didn’t play how we wanted. We were a better team in Milan but we were not able to repeat that performance.
Why would we not play how we wanted? That’s like nearly admitting that he was outclassed and outwitted.
I thought Turnbull was very good. He was very calm and composed. His command of the area was very assuring. Not one moment I thought we’re going to concede because we have a third choice keeper. In fact, with whatever little I have seen of him, he seems to be technically far better than Hilario. I think we should continue with Turnbull even if Hilario is ready.
The pressure must be on Ancelotti. Not because Chelsea has been eliminated but more about the manner of elimination. We had an away goal to start with and had the luxury of playing the second leg at Stamford Bridge and all that we needed was a 1-0 win. It is the manner of losing and drawing that’s painful. I’m unable to say this Chelsea team gave their all to win this tie. I’m not doubting their commitment but I just feel that Carlo could have got much more from this bunch of players. You wonder what’s missing and why are we weaker since Jose left? The key thing is our hunger and desire to win. The never-say-die attitude of the players and win-or-die attitude of the manager – this is what we are missing now. With Jose driving out Carlo from Italy and Europe, questions will be asked.
As a fan of Jose Mourinho, I’m happy for him. I’m happy that he got his result. If he was trying to send a message over to Roman, I think he’s done that well enough. He didn’t stay on the pitch for the final whistle. I liked that. He does want to run around the Stamford Bridge pitch hugging his Inter players and consoling Chelsea players. There is still a part of him that’s Chelsea. I love that part.
I celebrated a lot in the dressing room once the game was over. I love Chelsea, this stadium and this people but I am a professional and who knows I could come back here in the future as the manager of an English club.
I wish that English club is Chelsea. For the rest of this season’s champions league, I’d support Inter. Hope Jose wins title and stamps Wenger along the way.
But where does this leave us? There’s a premier league title to be won with just 9 matches to go. While elimination from champions league is never a good thing, this at least means fewer matches to play. More focus + less fatigue + less injuries + the opposite for the rivals = premier league title for Chelsea. Let’s head over to Ewood Park. Reaction time . . .

Don Jose, u got it. Congrats to Inter, who fully deserved…
Ancelotti made some huge mistakes in the line-up. Why did he start Anelka when he had Kalou (at least he creates more chances)???
Chelsea were almost dominating till the substitution of Ballack for J.C. Game changed after that. Ancelotti isnt smart enough. If he continues like this, we won’t win a single silverware.
Jose will not go that far with this Inter.. they deserved to beat us but they do not deserve to win CL…
Inter shaded it over 2 legs…..played a great game in the 2nd leg, didnt think they were up to it, Inter pressured the ball, kept the ball well, but didnt take chances they had till Chelsea replaced Ballack and Zhirkov with 2 forwards……The Special One read Chelsea perfectly, rode his luck, UEFA helped, Chelsea contributed to their downfall…….Inter deserved it, but dont think they have the power to get by Man U, Barca or even Arsenal.
On a separate point, the ref was appallingly crap, which ever way you look at it, he must have seen..or been aware …or been told about the challenges…what do they talk about at half time?..unless he received prior instruction….it was inevitable that Drogba would get ‘challenged’ and react!
I dont know why UEFA would begrudge Chelsea or English football a win…but next year my viewing priorities will be the FA cup and the Premier League……….English football is pure…European football seems to embrace a twenty third player player…I know what I prefer…c’mon the Man U & Arse…in Europe…only!!
Chelsea Fc is the biggest thing, no one is is bigger than my club…!!! even terry, Mourinho,etc, We must turn on the page and forget Mourinho.
WE LOST 2 TIME AGAINST LOOSERPOOL BECAUSE HIS ATTITUD!!!! MOURINHO IS NOT THE ANSWER………..
Not the best game for a non-fan to watch but as it turns out these are my two favorite foreign teams.It was a very intense match.
Sry to all Chelsea fans but whoever would come on top on this one I would be glad.
I truly believe on paper Chelsea had a better team but – unfortunately for Chelsea – Inter did one of their best matches I ever seen.I which there was a place for both teams at the final but it wasnt written and you have to give credit to Jose as he adapted Inter to fit the Chelsea 4-3-3 and in doing so he did a very nice job.
Chelsea can blame the referee to some extent but I think Inter players did that “extra mile” to come on top…on every dangerous shot on first half there was an Inter player on the way.
Very nice exhibition from Turnbull thought and (Malouda did really well too) would start him over Hilario any day.
time for a rebuild……
need hungry players,
also remember that this is a injury hit team. .. no excuse however!
Joe did not help his cause, anelka.. what can i say…. missing again. needed kalou from the start or earlier.
out: deco, ballack, beleti,
Ballack is about to sign a new contract and ansolloti will stick with him. Ansolloti will not play kakuta,sturridge, or matic when they are clearly much better then ballack, anelka or mikel. So unless there are some changes especially in the midfield things will stay the same with chelsea.
now the league lets win it lets support carlo it was tough essien we missed him he is very important lets win pl this season champs league next season

That one was so nice from you, thank you for being with us…although you may be not, you really sound like a Chelsea fan….CHEERS!
Mourinho is still unbeaten at Stamford Bridge!!!
Boom Boom!!
BC,
Nice post as usual!
Few things that i have seen unusual:
1. Jose’s body language prior to the kickoff was brimming with confidence…sitting on the chair totally relaxed with outstretched legs;
2. A chat between Sneijder and the referee in the tunnel before the start of the second half;
3. The fourth official showing wrong numbers during Inter’s substitution…Wesley (10) coming off was shown in green and 17 in red;
No. 1 is what Jose does it best;
No. 2 is a serious business unless the referee was asking about tulips, windmills, clogs, canals and cheese!
No. 3 might be a mistake but we can never say if it was not a deliberate one to quieten the home crowd by making them muse or chuckle over such a petty thing.
The match was not ours except for the last five minutes of the first half, but when we started to play our game, the half time break distorted the flow. Except for Turnbull, the rest of the players played below their capability i guess; player-wise:
Turnbull was cool and better than Hilario and i wouldn’t blame him a bit on the goal;
Zhirkov was just good at the back but whenever he got an easy chance to cross the ball, he managed to hit it straight at the first opponent, time and over again! The injury had affected him, had he played better we would have had the luxury of Malouda’s creativity up front;
Terry was somewhere between his usual best and recent worst. But his leadership traits were the best in the trade, his shoving off Mikel at the final whistle is a sign of a caring and commanding captain;
Alex was solid but far below the Alex who played against WHU. His failure to maintain the back line resulted in Inter’s goal!
Ivanovic was the best among the back four but he also failed to cross as effectively as he usually did;
Mikel played cool, may be too cool at times;
Ballack was horrible, except for his mis-timed tackles he always managed to lose possession with lose passes and he incredibly heaped pressure on hie fellow team mates because he left them agitated with his endless lose passes. Does his name mean ball lack?
Lampard is not as creative as he used to be and it was his sloppiness that resulted in the goal! But i know Jose made it sure that Lampsy is tightly checked;
Malouda is by far the best player not because he was brilliant but because he, even at his not-so-best performance, was far better than his team mates. He couldn’t go past his marker;
Nico is lazy, his dribbling and holding skills were visible but he got robbed of the ball more often than he usually let the opponents. I think he could have been a bit sharper when chances came;
Drogba just couldn’t win the ball and when he won it it couldn’t keep it! But i wouldn’t blame him solely because Jose made it sure that he is closed down first and fast. I wished that he was bit modest and let Lampsy take those free kicks because it just wasn’t his day on the dead ball! His red, if at all deserved, should have been only after showing the second yellow to motta for bringing him down prior to his reaction. And Motta’s theatrical antics were so cheap! I hate this guy!
Joey for Ballack was spot on i thought but Joey didn’t give us anything extra rather he lacked Ballack’s physical presence;
Kalou was a better option but i would have taken Nico off and let Malouda rule the left flank. Zhirkov didn’t play well but neither did Nico, so it would have been a better option had Kalou took over Nico;
Drogba must know that he will take only those free kicks which are closer to the D area and anywhere beyond 30 meters is under Lampasy’s command, or may be Alex’s if it is straight at the goal! While Drogba’s bullish nature is good for the opponents, he must know when to keep himself humble during the course of the game!
And like most of you say, i would really prefer to see youngsters introduced because they have talent and skill and energy over experience! Carlo must learn to punish under-performers, even if he is Terry or Lampsy!
What i really didn’t like of yesterday’s Inter was the way they kept wasting time during free kicks and throw ins, from the very first minute they started to defend their 2:1 lead. And dishearteningly, the referee let them do it only until showing a harmless yellow to Cesar, i think even Lucio deserved the yellow there!
Robbing of Kalou’s clear penalty in the first leg made all the difference, i think. And even yesterday the referee allowed Inter to wrestle our players down, pull their shirts, raise their boots high and get angry because they couldn’t foul our players much. Remember how wanker lucio reacted after he clearly fouled Malouda, they could foul us clearly and then get angry as if they suffered the fouls. UEFA must really look into their rule books and do away with English-clubs-hating referees!
Finally, i am all positive that Turnbull is improving and that our elimination from CL means more time and focus in EPL. As i was saying, if we are to get eliminated from the CL tournament it is better we exit early. And it is undoubtedly nice to lose against our legendary hero than to qualify now but lose at the hands of arsenal or manu or referee-assisted clubs out of England!
Now i want Chelsea to win the EPL by any means, it is a must and i hope Carlo and the players know this fact!
Good luck and let us win a better trophy (EPL) than the one which is dirtied by referees and UEFA!
I agree with denver, we need to rebuild and have hungrier players. Although I think JT is a good defender and leader, I think he needs to go. People may hate me for saying that, but I think if he leaves and some other players past their prime leave, we can start fresh, even if it means having a few substandard seasons. I’m not saying JT is a problem, but I think JT is somewhat of the squad’s foundation, and something needs to change. We can start with him, unfortunately. Our players are only getting older, and with Ancelotti, he loves to stick with these older players. Is this the direction we really want to go? I’m not saying to get rid of Carlo, I’m just saying we should look long term, Carlo needs to look long term. We have some promising youth: Sturridge, Kakuta, Matic, Turnbull, etc. Ballack is decent, but how much longer can he last? And is he worth over 100k/week? Joe Cole did not look good today either, but I like him. He just seems slow on the ball. Everytime he has the ball it’s like he wants to dance, tries to make a fancy move and either he loses possession or it disrupts the flow our attack. I’ve already gotten over this loss… we deserved it. Yeah sure we had key injuries but so what, that stuff happens. Inter outplayed us, whether physically or tactically. We need to face the reality. We are getting older. Older does not necessarily bode well for these long, grueling seasons. I hate to compare us to Man United, but look at what Fergie has done. He has developed his players who were once mediocre. They would probably be mediocre on any other team, but he brings the best out of his players. We need to do the same, and we need to start from our younger players and look long term. KTBFFH…
I watched the game with about 200 people at a bar. At the final whistle, much applause . Strange feelings.
Sad that Chelsea was out. Happy that Jose won.
It was probably the best loss in my life…. dunno how to describe it exactly !
Life goes on.
I had a feeling the goal was just a matter of Drogs, Lamps or Anelka having that one needed opportunity. Once Ballack was subbed off, I felt Inter took control of the match and we lost the initative and once that happened, we needed to regain control of he game before we could even think about scoring – hence our stupid long ball approach playing with an almost 3-2-5 formation.
From that moment on, we were defending and trying to make something out of nothing. Mikel did not leave a good impression when this happened and we had a very hard time getting back into the match.
Granted, Inter’s constant diving didn’t help matters but that was the turning point for me. Mikel did not do very well as a DM from that moment on and it was apparent that Sneider had his number. Then, 20 minutes later, they scored.
Ballack was not there to attack…we have Lampard, Malouda, Anelka and Drogs for this…Ballack was there to do what he did – assist to keep inter relatively quiet, and along with Mikel, they were doing rather ok at that until J Cole came on. That is my point. I understand the sub, but I do not believe it was for the reasons you think and it simply backfired on us.

Very nice and thoughtful comments, especially those from KarmaCW .Brilliant victory by Jose’s team, unfortunately. they did us just like we did arsenal. I see 2 main problems here:
1- Inter managed to keep leftbacks and midfielders busy enough that they couldn’t attack as usual. (Malouda was the only one to kinda make something happen)
2- We have no attack whasoever on the right flank. that’s mainly because there is no real winger on the right (Anelka was playing more alongside Drogba and plus he is no winger), and Ballack was completely absent from the attack. We cannot afford to build everything from the left (via Malouda’s crosses or passes), we need options. Once Malouda was taken care of by Inter, and Ivanovic occupied by Etoo on the right, that was it.. no more threat.
Ballack didn’t play well defensively either, he made poor passes, and gave away easy fouls. This is a problem that needs to be addressed in the summer, we need more threat on the right hand side, either by buying a player like Di Maria, or bringing in a youngster like Stoch. Cheers.

Mourinho was booed by Chelsea fans… this makes me sad….
BBC: Mourinho’s Inter were able to keep a subdued Chelsea at arm’s length for the majority of a tense evening littered with fouls and spells of ill-feeling, with even the self-appointed “Special One” being targeted for abuse by the supporters who once idolised him as frustration spread around Stamford Bridge in the closing moments.

The team has gotta learn now. Carlo has gotta learn. Roman has gotta learn.
If they do, much good can come because of this experience.
Then again if Ashley Cole, Essien and Cech had been playing it might have been different…sigh..
But we probably need another midfielder whose qualities are different than those of the ones we have now.One who can dribble and execute the killer pass….. ( Kaka maybe ? He really hasn’t settled at Real )
And I hope Chelsea meets Real Madrid next year…
And I’d like to see : Bastien Swaertzstenger, Kaka and Fernando Torres in the team too. Roman’s got the dough… !
Repeating my early comment, we are actually employing both Mikel and Ballack in replacement of one Michael Essien. Even with that, both players only manage to emulate a below average Essien. I truly understand why Carlo wanted Pirlo so badly. Even Ferguson employed Fletcher full time on him as his ball-holding skills is second to none and creates extra support for the running players. However, I think its fair to say that Carlo started the team with the right tactics, how else could you explain our possession play and attacks in the first half, especially after the half hour mark. We were getting closer and closer and the momentum was stopped by the half time whistle. But players like Anelka, Ballack and even Lampard did not work hard enough for each other as some of the decisions and runs were abit sluggish and too casual. On the hand, I felt that Didier overdid his support for Anelka by sending in some strange high flicks for the french man when players like Malouda and Ballack were in much better position. But I’m not deluded, I felt that 1-1 was the correct result which still spells ‘The End’ for our European campaign. I think on paper, we are still looking good but what’s missing at the moment (since February) is the lack of magic from a certain players like Frank Lampard, Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba. Instead, we are depending on Malouda to provide the sparks and fireworks upfront but how many more match-winning performance can we squeeze out from the French man. However, like BC said, its reaction time and normally we manage to string 2 to 3 games with bloodlust in our eyes. I’m quite sure if we maul Blackburn by more than 4 goals, the media and glory-hunters will start running back with their arms wide open.
KTBFFH, it ain’t high enough at the moment. Time to fly!!!

To a certain extent, if we didn’t know better, I say the Special One is plotting his way back to the Bridge. But you got to give credit to the man’s intelligence and his political speech. The way he puts Chelsea and its fans deeply into his heart on every sentence is very touching. The man is still very special to Chelsea and its evidence that he still haven’t gotten over CFC after the breakup. If he does return to Chelsea with Roman’s approval, it would be the biggest reunion of ‘love’ in football history, but I’m not too optimistic as reconciliation of such relationship doesn’t always have an happy ending. As fairly tale as it may be, its still great to know that Chelsea FC is still Jose’s love of his life. In Jose we have The Special One (TSO) and in Guus we have The Magical One (TMO) and of course not forgetting Scolari, The Clueless One (TCO) with Avram, The Forgotten One (TFO). . It’s time to test what Ancellotti is made of and I would love to see him coming out with his ‘hair dryer’ blazing and blasting us to victory. Maybe, just maybe, he might be The Amazing One (TAO – sounded a bit like a cult – lol).
p.s: Yes, I know I’m The Deluded One. But still, love is blind and I’m still very much in love with Chelsea even after 18 years. Its a curse which I’m very much happy lo live with. Cheers.
Its Superman, no its a bird, oh c’mon its just Chelsea .
Comprehensively beaten over two legs. Chelsea the better team on paper, but games are not won on paper are they? It didn’t baffle me when I saw Anelka in the starting line up and started thinking how many games does one require to understand that Drogba and Anelka can’t be on the same pitch together unless they play for different teams. I felt sympathetic towards Malouda when I saw everytime a midfielder spraying pass to him expecting him to create something out of nothing without any support whatsoever. Did we play any ball through the middle. How can we, we were outnumbered in midfield just because of the sheer overdependence on wingplay (only the left in case of Chelsea).
The second half was pathetic, just got the taste of ones own old medicines. Inter’s dominance in midfield, the sturdy defense of the advantage all déjà vu of the old blue. It was disgusting to see Chelsea players and their manager striking resonance in reactions……stunned. What was he thinking when he repeatedly saw Turnbull shooting long balls towards Drogba and Anelka which were easily dealt with a more physical CB combo. He persisted to resist to react when the ball was consistently headed down to midfield outnumbered by the ones in whites. May be our manager thought that he had enough with football and switched to volleyball for entertainment.
And now let us talk about Oscars, Inter’s theatrics in the game might easily outclass the ‘Hurt Locker’ crew. Infact, Motta, Lucio, Sneijder, Eto’o might be relishing on the prospects of future projects in Hollywood for their immaculate embellishing. And last but not the least, the German referee Stark for the best director, how intricately did he direct the rugby fashioned tackles inside the box and then chose to ignore it.
Anyway congrats to JM for sticking up two fingers to Roman. But no way am I going to support his academy of actors in CL.
With the quality of the opposition in the remaining ties in the PL, the aging squad, winning the epl too remains a distant reality. But what is wrong in hoping, atleast it would give me the motivation to watch and support Chelsea. So here is for a double to Chelsea this season ;) KTBFFH.
I am a chelsea suporter but I am still happy to see them exit the competition….
Inter should have the won last night by atleast a 3 or a 4 goal margin…..thats how poor chelsea were…..there is not a single player in this chelsea squad who is creative and who can pick a killer pass for the striker to finish it off…..there was no service on the wings………..drogba is human and cannot do everything by himself….
I hope such an exit brings some sense into the empty heads of ancelotti and mr abramovic…….if they are interested in taking this club forward then some harsh decisions have to be taken….the chelsea balance sheet has too many liabilities (short and long term) presently and in order to improve its net worth it needs to add to its assets.
those liabilities include ballack, deco, kalou, mikel and j.cole……. chelsea has to get rid of these blokes asap….
pls kick ballack out of the squad even if he agrees to play for 5k quids a week….
kalou can be sold to arsenal as wenger has been a long time admirer (I wonder what has he seen in this moron).
mikel could be sold back to lynn oslo or man united or anybody out there who wants him….
j.cole should be asked to walk out on a bosman….
deco should be sold to corinthians or athletico madrid.
If a good price is offered for anelka then it would make sense for chelsea to study the offer ad maybe offload this frenchman as well….he is not a winger but a striker but chelsea dunt play him as a striker when drogba plays…..so he as a winger is not useful for chelsea at all….
GipsyBlue,
Your names are interesting and true!
chelsito,
I agree with you!
I don’t think there was any fault at the selection of the team (except Joey should’ve been in for Mikel and Ballack should be in the Makele role). At any day, I would pick Anelka over Kalou esp. in these sort of matches. But yes, Anelka had an off night. But at the same time we’ve got to give credit to Mourinho, and his defence who carried out his orders quite well.
One of the reasons for our loss was Ancelloti’s predictability in his tactics. He played the same way again, and The Special One knew it. It was scripted for him that Joey would eventally come on at the 60min and he would later bring in Kalou. Carlo for Mourinho was a completely open book… He knew everything about us.
But the main reason for our loss, was the lack of energy-enthusiasm-passion, which gave way to frustation. One man could have turned that around – MICHAEL ESSIEN. HE IS THE MAN GUYS! Forget Terry or Lampard – ESSIEN is our new Mr. Dependable. We just need to keep him fit. Last season we were stuttering… He came on after his injury and salvaged some pride for us. This season we were rolling away till December… after that we’ve missed him and he is the reason for these debacles we’ve had in the past 2 months. We need him back, quickly!
As we are out of the UCL now, winning the League is the only way left. The fans will not settle for only an FA Cup this season again. We need the title – but believe me, it will be tough. We are in for some very important 3 weeks or so.
Mark my words :: The next 3 games of the league, are our make-or-break games of the season, described below ::
1) Chelsea vs Blackburn :: We need to bounce back! And bounce back hard! We need to win this convincingly by 3-4 goals. We need to tell that we are not discouraged by the latest loss and will go all guns blazing for the League title. (Prediction: Chelsea 3-0 Blackburn)
2) Chelsea vs Aston Villa :: Probably, the most important game out of the three. If we win here, we will have a momentum going into the next game to OLD TRAFFORD. You always need good momentum going into Old Trafford to snatch some points. If we lose here, believe me, there is a good chance ManUtd will batter us at their turf. (Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Aston Villa)
3) ManUtd vs Chelsea :: Now, if we win against Aston Villa, and win this game too – It will be game-over for the Devils. It is as simple as that. (Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 ManUtd)
May be I am being a bit ambitious about the last one, but I think we can do it – if Essien is fully back for the game.
Have your say guys! KTBFFH!
Didier – please grow up and learn. Take the rough with the smooth and battle. you were out muscled and out classed all night and then reacted. You did it in Moscow and after the Barca game and now AGAIN. How many more times????
Seriously, as Julio said, forget Mourinho. If he loves us all so much tell me why the players he sent out on the pitch spent so much time cheating and trying to get our players sent off? He wasn’t the difference, just like Ancellotti wasn’t the difference when we couldn’t score against Liverpool while Milan ripped them apart? The difference is that Sneider, Eto, Pandev and Cambiasso are better footballers than Lampard, Anelka, Malouda and Mikel, full stop. I know its Jose who bought some of those players in and he’s an incredible manager but honestly move on, he’s not god and he’s not the answer to everything
What could Ancellotti have done differently? Some people are using him not playing Kalou or Joe Cole as a stick to beat him with. They’re both idiots! Cole instantly made us worse when he came on and some of you are saying if we’d started him we would have won?! I can’t wait for him to leave.
The reason we were so bad is simply because of the players we had available and nothing else, nothing to do with hunger or anything. We have to rely on physically overwhelming teams to score, thats how this team has been set up…by Mourinho. When we don’t have Essien we now struggle to do that against the best teams, and when we don’t have that advantage and come up against a decent defence we have to rely on other stuff, stuff called CREATIVITY, not “hunger” or “never die” – SKILL and IDEAS. Something the team hasn’t had since Robben and Gudjohnson left. Seeing the team rely on Anelka and Malouda to make stuff happen was painful. All they can do is hit speculative balls and pass outside to their fullback, they were both disgraceful, can either of them pass more than 5 yards? Even Lampard, as brilliant as he is, for someone who the team is built round he should really needs to contribute more creatively, he can never improvise. This has been a problem with this team for 3 years now, we haven’t had a really creative player since Robben (apart from Deco, who’s over the hill) THATS WHY WE ARE WEAKER, we need someone like him, and we need to have a team where players like him can thrive. Players who have their own ideas. At the moment everyone’s either not skillful enough or not clever enough and its been doing my head in every transfer window. When there are people begging for Kalou and Joe Cole you shouldn’t be surprised about us playing football like this, you should see performances like this a mile off. Why didn’t Ribery come here? Arshavin would have earned more money and been with better players if he came here, why didn’t we go in for him? Why isn’t Robinho here? Its needed to be sorted out for 2 years and hasn’t been, even Arsenal would have done better last night.
I know we still have a good team and I really think we should win the league but the fact that we haven’t replaced Robben when we’ve had so much time and money to do so is so irritating. When Essien Drogba and Lampard are fit and firing we are still good enough to beat anyone, but that won’t be the case sooner or later because Drogba and Lampard are getting older. We honestly need some changes soon and some big ones, because when Terry Drogba and Lampard are 33 we’ll probably end up having performances like that more often. I jut hope Abramovich realises this. For now we have some easier games against Blackburn and Villa, which I’m looking forward to!
Ah guys, lets forget all that happened. Mou knew the team inside out, he had reinforced his squad at the start of the season, we hadn´t. Many took Inter too lightly, even fans. I still remember when i said they are a great threat to us, many had laughed at it, and said Seria A has no quality. While i agree with the later, Inter is Jose´s team built for European Success and therefore we should have been more clinical. But past is past, what happened has happened. Lets stay quiet about the players, and their indivisual performances and let lets support them till the end of the season. We can still win EPL and FA cup. If we can get these two, it would still be hailed as a successful season. We can decide who should come and go after FA Cup finals.
hahaha shame on chelsea hahahah john terry knocked over a chelsea security staff in his car, i think that defeat has affected him and will affect the whole team hahahahahha hope you have a good season with no trophy, p.s i love you, from an inter fan through and through
I dont think we were out thought, I think Mourinho got throught with mind games. Rightly said, on paper we are great. But for all the idiots who think castrol rankings will build you a perfect side……you can say anelka is faster than zanetti, you can say anelka is taller than zanetti and you can say when anelka plays off drogba as a striker, he is more than a handful but you have to take into account where the ball will be passed from, how it will be passed, can anelka take the touches he needs under pressure? Can he take the ball in his stride, will he get to use his pace? Where will Anelka naturally move when he has the ball.
This is just the tip of the level of depth you have to consider to be a coach. Ancelotti for me picked anelka over kalou, I didn’t have a problem with that, I had a problem that he moved him out wide.
Mikel had his hands full with sneijder. Mourinho simply put two defensive midfielders on the pitch. They may not be as high as ballack and lampard in terms of status and maybe “castrol rank” (load of crap although entertaining and interesting) but they are quick and strong. All Cambiasso and Thiago Motta did throughout the night was work on rushing ballack and lampard.
After watching inter at home when they switched to a 4-2-2-2 against us, ancelotti should have realised that 4-3-3 was not the way to go. Now theoretically, I would of said right, Chelsea will have the back 4 concentrating all match, Mourinho might not play 4-2-2-2 because Chelsea still ran past them in the midfield during transition but a definite 4 defender, 2 sweeper formation is coming. The front four will be rotated to control the game rather than score. What it all boils down to, is that their was a reluctance to cross the ball all game. The only player who did seriouis running that night was malouda. He made himself space when no-one else would, he tried to drag chelsea through but couldnt do it alone against a defensively minded team and coach. It would of made sense to get someone on who WOULD tear up the pitch. The one time Chelsea tried to exploit anelka, the pass was so illogical, anelka recieved it at the byline of inter’s box. What is being said about the full backs is not true. In games that we boss, the overlap between wing and wingback usually happens about halfway line. Ballack would anchor that spot for ivanovic to get foward and malouda would alternate with ashley cole
What I saw too often, was zhirkov by inter’s corner flag and taking too many touches and making bad passes even though at times, malouda had maicon pinned right to the back of the box. Ivanovic not being able to muscle his way in and then having to pace back with anelka to cut off eto’o, only for anelka not get back up the pitch quick enough. I would of looked to tire zanetti in order to draw lucio and samuel out of position. Inter would then compensate by drawing cambiasso or thiago motta infield or by lucio coming across. Either way you creat the space you need for shots. You know zanetti is quick and well positioned so you need absolute speed. Kalou should have started on the right if 4-3-3 is what carlo wanted to do.
Well that wasn’t the worst scenario and to be fair, I don’t think eto’o won the tie for inter, I think it was samuel and lucio. Inter players did their jobs (almost and just about but never fully) Ballack slipped through several times. Lampard couldn’t shoot but was still advancing our plays, list goes on. Lucio and Samuel were never able to individually handle DD (not legally anyway) and it was fine for inter as long as drogba didnt score. I will take you back to about 40 minutes. The ball has come into the box, it is scrambled for, anelka tries to head the ball down, Inter knock the ball out to drogba, as he powers up, cesar has already started moving across to DD’s left. DD hits the ball hard with the outside of his right foot, the ball is curling sweetly and cesar can sense it is heading in and samuel simply lunges for it. Chelsea couldn’t make those hearty tackles like we did to stop barca scoring last season………we underplayed somewhat but dont take last night as the end of the world
We now have blackburn at the weekend to get 3 points back. If we can get back into our swing, chip in some goals to get our difference back to the best, a win against man utd hands us the title and we are about 3 games from a trophy in the fa cup with no man utd.
MOM:Turnbull….. :(
Please people don’t rush to start talking about revamping half the squad; it’s not a smart way to react to our defeat at all.
I agree we have a case of the “AC Milan” though and this match really showed how old and lacking in creativity we have become.
Winning the premier league may/likely require that we beat Liverpool and Manure in order to just stay in front of Arsenal (who are likely to win the league now). Now we have been so exposed the chances of that happening are very slim.
We must go all out for the FA cup and hopefully Abramovich is releasing the funds for some 20-25 rising stars. And let’s forget about Ribery because we will need a lot of money to replace people like Ballack, Anelka (if this form continues), Belletti, Ferreira, Deco, Carlvalho.
The risk would be great but what choice do we have except sack ancelotti and replace him with someone who will probably be shit. The comparisons with recent AC Milan will continue unless we give a good show for the last stretch.
It was not so longer ago that we playing some of our better football of our recent times. Honestly, we were more steel and muscles under Guus and were grinding out results towards the end. Some of the wins below were impressive achievement such as Win Liverpool 2-0, Win Man Utd 1-0, Win Arsenal 3-0 + 2-0 and of course the famous Sunderland trashing 7-2. Remember those times, it is still the same team. We loss significantly to ManCity twice and a double defeat to Inter due to bad performance. But the core team that produces the same results below is still somewhere within the walls of Stamford Bridge. Let’s rally the team and push till the end, if we die trying, so be it. Yes, I agree that we need some plastic surgery in some departments, but those are end-of-season talks. Now its Blackburn in mind. Like Stringer Bell said, what can Kalou and Joey do differently, well I dunno but I’m hoping to find out the results if we start both of them for this game. “Sometimes changing for the sake of changing when things are not so rosy may not be such a bad thing.”

I share ur feelings bro. JOE. COLE made us worst… can you believe that… came on for a 34 year old… and did worst!
I am sure my friend TruePlatinum would agree 200% with you also.
i have said it, never replace Robben… sold Gudjonson and duff for no good reason…. someone ENGINEERED the slow down of our midfield… we have been buying crap….
we have no creativity, cleverness…pace or trickery!!
there are players out there!! Bastian, Tim Borowski, Ben Arfa, Alalay, VDV, Diago, Ribery, Gago, Oliz, Kun, Villa, Diarra, groucuff, Rakitic, (good back up keepers!!), Ashley Cole, Agbonlahor. hulk
the team just needs a overhaul to be more creative. we should probably try and get De rossi from Roma.. to be a core player with Essien. find Jovotic, Subotic (CB), Stéphane Sessègnon, Jérémy Clément, Aly Cissokho(LB) Benzema, Podolski
we need to get PEDRO from Barca, look back into Di Santos… these are direct players im talking about (run at defenders cause problems.. force a issue)
we need to go into countries that play fast pace football with creativity like turkey, France, Portugal, germany, and scout properly!!!!!!!!
chelsea must do all they can to buy ‘Kun’ Agüero and atleast one more skillful player to a play woth him to build a team around… i like daniel De Rossi.

CHelsea have to react positively for the other matches…win the double..invest in the next transfer window on players like dimaria,aguero,ribery,bastian…to win the champions league
I get a feeling that Essien had cost us dearly in 2008-09 and now again in 2009-10! I just pray that he remains fit once he’s back!
ey guys pls stop blaming da team…i thnk da person u hv to put da blame on is da couch….he ddnt bear in mind da fatique of da players.he played da same squad dat playd stoke against west ham n he ddnt thnk of da important match against inter cos he was under pressure to win against west ham…u cud c in da second haf against inter da players wer showin signs of tiredness….ya well thy tried first haf bt secnd haf thy cudnt evn breath….
i thnk he shud hv gave da likes of kalous.sturridge n decos to ply da westham game bt he thought other ways.i cant blame da players reaili da plyd their lungs owt like malouda in da west ham game n in a space of 2days u expect da same performance…dts not fair.
i thnk ancelloti was under pressure since da game against stoke cos we lost at home against city n he knew he had to win against stoke n again wit west ham so dat let to poor selection n nt evn thnkn abt other games…

But we need to let guys like Deco,belleti and one defender go as well as Joeey he his always on the injury table every season has not contributed much this season too,also stoch and kakakuta should but allowed more games in the first team… Stoch is doing well at FC Twentiet in holland . We should reassess if Mikel is fit enough to play for our team if not sell him cos it seems to me he loses conc during the game cos he is thinking of beer and women..cheers guys
Well they are also saying they will let Joe Cole, Deco, Beletti, Ferreira leave and also let Anelka leave if he fails to agree to the new contract.
Hi BC, I normally read and enjoy your sight but I’ve noticed something recently and think you need to change how u write after we lose. When we lose you can’t just blame the coach for not being Jose. I’m as much hurt as you when we lose and I understand you were frustrated when you wrote this but about the match you didn’t say anything perceptive like you do when we win. You didn’t say what any of our players did right or wrong, even though in alot of cases it was pretty obvious, and especially you haven’t even mentioned a single Inter Milan players name in your entire report, even though a couple were genuinely incredible.
All you did is mention was what Ancellotti didn’t do, when realistically he couldn’t do anything. Our best player was injured and apart from Deco we had no other good options and in the end instead of saying that or how Inter’s players were better all you said was with Jose we were better and so would have won because of “never say die”?. Thats lazy man, and it hurts me to say this because I really like reading your site 95% of the time but it’s getting a bit boring aswell because its an excuse. Yes Jose might be a better manager but on that occasion Inter Milan had better FOOTBALLERS on the pitch who played better, and it was obvious, and thats the most important factor in the outcome of a football match. You just should admit that and go from there when we lose because we depend on you to write your best stuff about what is happening on the pitch when we lose more than ever, and particularly recently you have struggled to both accept that and resist the urge to blame the manager first, and its starting to make the articles hollow. Blaming Ancellotti is an excuse, sorry dude, and its a bad excuse to write because its turning people against someone who is doing nothing wrong. Believe me, what you say influences people and its a bit of a negative message because he’s a great manager. Maybe Jose is better, and his tactics were very good yesterday, but you shouldn’t just let that cloud your judgement when you write an article. You said little about what happened during the game, maybe because some of our players were so bad, but you can just admit that dude.
Theres football beyond Jose and there have been and will be better teams, and Ancelotti managed one of them. Believe me we need this guy and we need to look forward. Just looking back is misguided, sorry to say this but your attitude to Ancelotti is V bad and extremely short sighted, what will firing him get us? Will it give Malouda and Anelka vision or Joe Cole a brain? Will it make Ballack younger or magically rebuild Essiens knee? What success has firing a manager once a year brought to Roman? Just remember this Ancellotti brought in 1 established player Zhirkov, Jose the luxury of about 10 in his first 2 seasons. Roman is more important than Jose ever was or will be and he knows what he is doing. He wants Carlo to build us another galactico team and he’s one of the best in the world to do this because he’s done it before. Our teams getting old and its time for a change sooner or later whoever is in charge. Get off his back for now mate, were not as good as before but maybe when Carlo gets some of his players in we will be better and if were not then have he deserves critisicm. For now though support him dude, he’s not a Turkey, he’s a 2 time champions league winner and 3 time finalist. Were you not just a tiny bit jelous when you saw AC Milan scoring at will against Liverpool those years ago? Just stick buy him for now. I hope you don’t take this wrong but I just want your articles when we lose to be as good as your other ones because for many people they are the most important ones. Your love for Chelsea shines through mate but hopefully next time we lose you can write with some more perspective.

you’re joking right? Where is that kind of money supposd to come from?
We also won’t get much money or any from the people we are likely to be selling (or not renewing the contract of)
Denver, funnily enough I do. Joey came on and every time he picked up the ball from the right side of the pitch, he ran it back into the middle, passed left and than sat on the edge of the box. It really annoyed me. Ballack should of came on at about half time. Joey would of had a run around, made it look like we were crossing all night, then we could of had Ballack come on at half time with that extra foot or two of space outside the box. I was relying on Ballack to score shots like the one he missed early from about 15-20yards. Was real close and Cesar wouldn’t of got it.
In terms of team, every year we achieve but then the year after, our players who are declining physically are showing it. There were times when Lampard and Ballack would do someone like Samuel for Pace nastily. Ballack used to do the odd trick. As Drogba said last season when Hiddink came in, if you’re tired, towards the end of the game it is harder to do that extra trick to get by. He’s right, when you’re tired, it is harder to move your legs! lol. Our players have stamina, strength, determination but we need one or two speedy players to come in now and learn while our stars are still in form. I think there is space for two signings. We need someone who plays like Kaka, Rooney, Tevez. Someone that has the legs to track back to win the ball and then be the first person to set foot in the box for us in the same play.
Iniesta would of been great but we didn’t pursue in the end (dammit, what a bite on the bum).
So then onto Denver’s fantasy team. Too much chopping, too much changing but right now, Gago might not be a bad idea, haven’t seen him play in ages though.
I think Tom Huddlestone would be a good replacement for Ballack. Alot of stamina, over 6 feet tall, plenty of strength and can hit the ball harder along the ground than gerrard or lampard can. He was playing really well at tottenham before injury and I think one day he could slot right into where lampard when he retires with the added bonus of being a box target. He tracks back well and if you see the size of him, you’ll know he won’t lose the ball easily.
The name I’ve seen about the most is Marek Hamsik, he isn’t bad and is fairly quick from what I remember of him.
Deco has officially said he will be leaving Chelsea to join a Brazillian team at the end of the season because of family problems. So we will have space for £80,000 (or thereabouts) worth of wages. Abramovich wants the club to become self sufficient, but unfortunately, there are few of our academy/young players that are capable of coming in to the premiership and playing 90 mins at the standard chelsea needs. Sturridge and Kakuta are just about there and the eredivise is not anywhre near the level of the premiership. Every dutch player in this league struggles with fitness and form horribly. I dont think recalling Stoch is good. We need youngsters getting experience abroad to learn how the game is played, to beat different kinds of teams they wont get to play on loan at Blackburn for example.
A big point, I’d be happy to see Mario Balotelli, Marek Hamsik, Taye Taiwo, Tom Huddlestone, Ashley Young, Ribery and probably many others but you guys need to remember, AC Milan did not make money available for Ancelotti which has been the difference here. Ancelotti brought in Zhirkov who is about 25, Sturridge 20 and Turnbull 19 and spend about £25million. How often do you hear about Ancelotti spending £25 million? The most i’ve heard was Ronaldinho for £15mil. Chelsea are abit richer than AC Milan and have performed better than them in recent years. Ancelotti will be assessing if he needs anyone at the end of the season so I’ll see what happens.
Looking foward to our next game. A big scoreline to say we lost this week but the Premiership is ours.
i think turnbull deserves to be chelsea no 2

The Chelsea problem still the same year after year: lack of continuity.
That’s a problem Chelsea imposed on Chelsea after 2 consecutive PL wins.Now every coach (and players to some extent) have to win wither the PL or CL to keep their jobs.Chelsea even let Clark leave when it was obvious to many he was the one assuring some of that continuity.
About a year ago almost everyone I was reading here was looking to get rid of Drogba then a few month latter everyone changed their minds around.
Ricky was great then he was rubbish then he was great now everyone is urging to see his back (Joe Cole has fallen out of favors now too…for crying out loud,the guy is still 28 years)
Guess what?Inter average age on defense is above 30′s.Thats a position where experience is counted before age and most of the best CB are in their 30′s.
Every time theres a result crisis you expect the new manager to get Abramovich check book and buy players.Even Carlo admited he didnt find the need to buy players in January.At his point you need stability and to find some long turn targets to buy players, not overly expensive quick fixes like Svechenko was.
Believe me I’m not looking to rub salt on your wounds,but look on these players and tell me they couldnt have have a place at Chelsea?:
Eto (29),Sneidjer (25),Pandev (26),Thiago Mota (27).
All these and a few more went to Inter at a fraction of the cost that would be needed to get Ribery/Torres/Villa/etc.. or even money payed to replace coaches in the last 3 years.
You cant have that with Arnesen looking to buy players from his pals or have Abramovich picking players and then demand Carlo (or whoever coaches Chelsea at that moment) to find a scheme to play them and still winning while having to play beatifull football or else you ca get sacked.
You also cant have 22 soloists (just look at Real for that matter),you need more than half the team to be dependable piano carriers.
Also: cut Carlo some slack..its his first year,TSO dropped last year (his first) from CL at exact the same stage.You need to give him time to choose his players and bring some (few) new ones before you can expect him to make an impact.
Mourinho had the advantage of having other SerieA still recovering from Calciopoli so you cant even put on the same rank winning PL and SerieA.
I’ll pick Ivanovic any day!
Mcurto,I agree with you partially….We need consistency…we cant be changing players every season…what ancelotti needs to do nw is to get the bond chelsea players have with managers like hiddink and mourinho…However Ancelotti needs to be more supportive of his players for example Joe cole,sturridge…However I feel that Chelsea needs to open their cash book as it is abbsolutely true that chelsea team is slow…our midfield is very strong and techically inclined but against speedy teams and skilful teams,what is lacking is agility and creativity…players like ribery,bastian etc needs to be bought to reinforce chelsea…players like aguero needs to be bought so drogba wont be our target man…people have been saying stop drogba stop chelsea….even SAF is saying tt….anelka has been stuttering again…I feel that we are lacking in options …cmon abramovich and ancelotti…counting on u guys to make a change…players like deco wants to leave so let him leave and we shall find a replacement for him,a better one.Players like anelka,carvalho,belletii/ferriera can be kept however they cant be used for against all teams…they are gd players but nt electrifying..
SO the decision is to see how ancelotti react to the defeat to inter ..I believe ancelotti got rooms to improve as he needs to be more crafty and smart in his substitution…we shall win the remaining cups and reinforce the squad in the transfer window…Notice I said the word’reinforce’ nt’exodus’
This one is awesome!

Hahaha this is the worst report I have ever read!
Mourinho did not play in Centre bakc
Mourinho did not stop Lampard
Mourinho did not make all the passes which destroy you defence
Mourinho did not score the goal
You are not a football fan, you are a Mourinho fan. Your attempts to eplain the match are pathetic. You obviously don’t watch football apart from Chelsea. Anyone your age with an understanding wouldn’t have put this up.

Thank you Blue4Life for bringing up the case for James Milner. He’s so much better than Joe Cole now and is the future of English football for being amazingly versatile, great shooting and plays exceptionally in many positions.
If Gourcuff is bought it should be to go straight into the first team and it won’t be less than 30mil.
Pato is a distant reality as the milan fans would eat berlusconi alive fo sho this time round if he lets him go for any amount of money. Look to Aguero or a sneaky stealing of Chamakh. Maybe Pazzini too but I only know what I have heard, not seen.

It seems everyone here has been overwhelmed by Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland. I think we might have around 2 months to put up our fantasy team once the PL is over. Although some very good names have been suggested, none would be available for saving our ass this season.

Man utd and Chelsea have 4 tough games compared to Arsenal’s 2 (ignoring the home away factor). Looks like the tortoise is overtaking, after we having done à la hare. Going by this season’s upsets, it could be foolish to underestimate even the minnows at their home. This year’s title would be won by, not the best but the least erroneous team.
Yeah man u are right just as Man City did, Drogba is the man to take then chelseafc is ordinary,Lampard is not living up to 150k a week … Drogba plays out his heart for CFC but gets frustrated when things don’t go our way we need 2 more guys like Didier to make chelsea great u know….
I give Jose credit for the transition between a first half inter at stamford bridge and the way they played in the second half where they scored. The players themselves wasted chances and to be honest, if Drogba or Anelka had the chances they did, it would have been 3/4-0. But that being said, do respect the idea that Jose himself was not on the pitch. Especially because those are my exact ideas of Avram Grant. I think the players tried to do what Jose would tell them to do time and again and it was their work despite the obvious lack of influence from Grant to come as close as they did to 3 trophies that season.
I haven’t seen the new alice in wonderland myself, but I am really liking the idea of playing on our right wing instead of michael ballack or joe cole or any other player ancelotti would choose. Forget Ashley Young….James Milner is a player that epitomises what we need in his determined play.
Am hoping we go and grind out the result tomorrow. Blackburn will be abit cocky after putting 3 goals in our net in the carling cup. We’ve had the extra game in the week so we are going to be tired at an away game, not ideal. But Bolton’s defenders are nowhere near the ability of lucio and samuel so im sure Drogba will start to have a riot day should he be allowed to play.
Its true about Lampard. Im sure 5 or 6 maybe 7 of his goals, which I think is about 15 this season, are from penalties. Lampard may be reaching 20 goals a season, but it isn’t in his usual way. I think there is a problem here, Joe Cole may have a chance to step up here but something needs tweeking in the set up regardeless.
3-0 win tomorrow
yknw guys there’s one thing if you’ve all noticed it should be tht our major weak spot is lampard.
when he’s on song yeah he’s fine…………but otherwise he just messes up…..remove lamps out of the equation you get a better solid chelsea team…….but thts nt gonna happen now is it………
