West Ham 1-1 Chelsea | Christmas Champions . . . :-)
Another draw. Exactly at a time we should be winning. Man Utd were thumped by a fantastic Fulham side earlier and a win would have put us really on top. All that we could get was a draw. I must say that was a fair result considering the performance we put in. Honestly, as Lampard put it, we did not turn up in the first half. The first half display by Chelsea was the most lacklustre effort from Chelsea that I’ve see this season. We knew that we had to win but the way we played in the first half was like how you play a dead rubber in a champions league group stage knowing that even a defeat would retain you in the top spot.
We missed Anelka. I don’t believe I’m saying this. I truly think we missed Anelka. It was exactly in these kind of matches his holding up skills and slow dribbling would have helped us in getting people into the attack or even winning free kicks. The reason why I missed him so much was also made up by how shite Kalou was that night. He simply didn’t cut it. I know he’s getting to play after a long time but he just did not impress.
We should have got a clear penalty from a handball in the first half. It was so unfortunate for us not to get it. On the other hand, we conceded a somewhat needless penalty. We defended rather well and we seemed very determined not to concede a goal. You could see that in Ashley Cole’s effort for that tackle that led to the penalty. In those circumstances, you could allow the ball carrier to go for the shot and hope that your world class keeper pulls it off instead of making a messy sliding tackle.
Though the first half ended 1-0 West Ham thanks to a poor display by Chelsea, I was very sure that I’d see a different Chelsea in the second half. I’d always put my money on that. Ancelotti suprised me pleasantly by making a double substitution at half time. I was happy that he subbed Kalou and I was happier that he didn’t wait too long. I was impressed. Sturridge and Zhirkov came in. Sturridge played really well. He was very physical, he held the ball well and he had some pace too. He had a very good pitch presence which Kalou was sorely lacking.
Zhirkov played like he has been playing in the premier league week in week out. We’ve all known that he is a good dribbler and we saw just that. He could get past defenders with ease. He definitely brings us a new dimension in our attacks. The inclusion of both Sturridge and Kalou definitely made a difference in our attacks.
When we got that penalty, it was a dubious one. As a fan, I’d always say that it made up for the first half handball penalty that was not awarded. I think, to take a penalty, after having missed a penalty in your last few matches, is really a big challenge. And, Lampard had to take it thrice. Man, he got three in three. Full credit to him for keeping his cool and slotting the ball. When he scored to the right of the goalie in the first chance, I was wondering what’s going on in the minds of Lampard and Green for the second shot. Would Lampard be thinking that he should go left or would Green also pre-empt that? Something must change in that rule. If the opponent players are stepping in, they must receive a yellow. Otherwise, the opponent players can always happily step in so that the penalty is re-taken. Not every player can take three successive penalties and score them all. I see an opportunity for teams that are not very keen on fair play. Anyway, I’ve concluded that taking three successive penalties is one of the most toughest thing in football.
We could have got a winner but West Ham played like their lives depended on this match. Credit to them for the way the defended. They were counting on counterattacks. Though that did not align with what Zola said before the match, it made sense for them to nick a point from a Chelsea match. It’s a big point for them.
Much has been said about John Terry and the Cobham visitors. I think this is just tabloid nonsense. The club statement is very clear. Firstly, JT is well within his authority as the captain of the team and the club’s ambassador to bring in any visitors as he deems fit. Secondly, he did not ask for or accept any money in relation to the visits. As we get closer to the world cup, you’ll see more such stories on Terry. These are just meant to dislodge him from the English captaincy which some of the scousers etc don’t stand. They just can’t stand a Chelsea man leading England to the world cup with the best opportunity to win under the best England manager.
Mark Hughes is gone. Poor chap. I’m not sure if Mancini can do better. As it is, Mark Hughes was doing a decent job. If Mark Hughes’ performance deserves a sack, what would you say of Rafa Benitez? Lucky chap, if there’s one. But for the good of Chelsea FC, I pray to God that Rafa continues to be manager of Liverpool and if any point of time he needs to move, let him take Fergie’s job.
Next up is Birmingham City. The other ‘blues’. That being an away match, we would be playing in our ‘other’ kit. Will we break our jinx? Can we beat them resoundingly in that away kit? I really hope so. Meanwhile, we will be on top of the table by Christmas time. And that’s the first time this has happened since 04-05. You know what happened in 04-05!
easy guys…..yes i’m gutted after watch last night games vs Hammers……Zola/Clarke really know how to get pressed our diamond and our fullback….it seems that Chelsea players hold the ball so long and sometimes didn’t realised that the ball is robbed by hammers players….yes…I’m agree how we miss Anelka…but look @ the bright side….so we miss Anelka than Drogba….I hope this will be a good sign that Anelka and Sturridge could be a good strike partnership come January due to African Cup Nations….maybe good for Chelsea to give more opportunity to Borini…or maybe call back Miroslav Stoch from Twente…..this kid really never stop scoring lately….
Alright guys, these r my observation on the match and a couple of my personal opinions on some of our players. On the match, again we were out muscled. Ditto my observations on the Everton game. West Ham knew we had the better players. So to counter us they came into the match to “fight” and fight they did. In this match we missed Anelka and Essien. Essien the ball winner and Anelka our only handler. Our English players have been poor and if England really think they r gonna win the World Cup then they should think again. Lampard has been poor this season and i don’t think it’s the formation. He’s just been poor and he’s admitted so himself. JT has been no different. Maybe Ash has been flying this season but for the few matches after Arsenal he’s been poor in judgement. Then comes Joe Cole. Yesterday he was absolutely terrible. I have never seen Joe Cole play so poorly. This dip in form for the English players is in other teams too bar Tottenham. Gerrard has been terrible this season and is the single reason Liverpool has been struggling. Yet no one in the biased British media has picked that up. Then Rooney has been of form for Manure. Walcott , poor the Arse. Back to Chelsea then. I think our midfield has become slow. Between Lampard and Ballack and Deco and Joe Cole there is no speed and seem to b overwhelmed whenever we meet an oppositon that has younger more passionate players. it happened in the Manure match and again last night. We may have to play a couple of our younger players in this period and think long term as to where we wanna play Ballack. I think this should b his last season with us. His wages alone r a burden. ditto Paul Scholes. Carlo should up his game. We’ve had 2 opportunities to pull clear of the pack, we’ve blown them. I hope we can just win our next game. That is all i want.
Seeing Sturridge do very well was great ! Wasn’t the kid fast ? And you could see that Zirhkov also has class and guile and was a real smoothie down the left side too.
These are the positives we can take from this game and they’re very important points too cos with the Africans gone in a week both of them plus Kakuta and Ballack and Joey are gonna have the games of their lives…. If they succeed in this period the title is ours cos ManUres injury woes will last until the end of Jan too ! Anyways it’s a point gained and WHU were already playing like it their survival match at the end of the season !
Maybe coz of the recession everyone at the bottom is scared shitless of going down and being downsized now and really pushing for any points scapped from anywhere they can get em .Look at what the Wolves did which was an indication of how the race to avoid relegation has been pushed forward to December !
So therefore moi is not so shattered by the draw last night.
Just my two cents ! !

I agree with u our midfield is too slow that is why we have problems against teams with younger players.Ballack has not impressed for two seasons now.I don’t understand our transfer policy,Ballack should be allowed to leave at the end of this season….I understand he has signed a new deal till end of this season,he should take a pay cut or leave…Anyway lovely post and Merry Christmas….
I think Chelsea have to improve the tempo of the game…..improve the ball passing feet to feet….I think 3 or 4 games behind Chelsea players have good composer to mix and pass the ball around…just have to try 1-2 touch then pass…in West Ham/Portsmouth game I didn’t really see the good ball passing by Chelsea’s players…Carlo must have good attention to it…
if Chelsea players don’t hold the ball much longer it’ll be difficult to our opponent to robbed the ball….remember, every team aganist Chelsea play counter attack…..
my disgust with our game was the lack of vision by CA to change tactics. we played too much with possession to an extent we lacked ideas of what to do with the ball and WHU eventually robbed us of the ball. After WHU started parking the bus in their half, we should have started our more reliable long ball tactics with all the possession we had to make Drogba more useful with headings. at a time Drogba had to come to the right wing to collect the ball (or at least touch the ball).
its a pity we can’t extend our lead even when our close rivals slips, and don’t rule out arse-anal as they are mathematically in it.
December is always a tough month and hopefully we can gring out results.
hey BC: please talk about our bad performance, is the same than the last year, the same points with the same opponents and conditions(home or away), this year we win over United, Liverpool, Spurs, Fullham and Hull but we loose with wigan, Villa, City, and tie West Ham, all those games we won the last year!°!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we are at top because liverpool and United are bad this year and Chelesea is the same bullshitttttttttt
West Ham game, dissappointing. This was a good opportunity to pull away with a big lead and we missed it.
I would not be against chelsea buying aguero but am not enthusiastic as I think, in a full, fit squad, he would hinder the growth of kalou, joey, sturridge, borini and Anelka. A player of his calibre would be starting most games either up front, in the hole, or on the right of the pitch. It would be good for instant results, but i think it could be bad in the future.
I’m hoping Daniel Sturridge will do well, he could get more minutes after january and could even be considered for the national competition. Would be good image if Chelsea add another name to the england squad
Next time around i would prefer my first 11 to be:
……………Didier……………Nico………. ……
…………………….Lampard……………… …..
….Zhirkov…………………………..Kakuta. …
……………………..Mikel………………. …….
…Ashley……Terry…….Riccy……Ivanovic…
……………………..Cech……………….. ……
Notes:
1. Subs.: Turnbull, Alex, Belletti, Ballack, Sturridge, Birini, Matic;
2. May be Belletti in place of Gael; and Alex in place of Riccy;
3. Ballack in place of Mikel (thinking about ACN); and
4. Leave Malouda and Joey totally out of the squad!
I hope Chelsea will start using young players so that they get acquainted with the style of play, and that we won’t use African players as much as we would love to.
ANd i want Ballack, deco and kalou to leave immediately! Useless trio! And i would love to call Sotch and Di Santo back.
We have many young and promising players, we need to give them a chance or two to prove themselves and let them fight into the first 11; they got to earn their berth!
Malouda is shitty of late, i would prefer Zhirkov over him!

Carlo has doen his best he can play for the palyers he sbbbed kalou and Malouda that were not playing well…I think that ws a good sub,i hope chelsea improve…Cheers guys
Great one BC, as usual; and thank you for two posts on the same match.
I agree with you on your comments on the last match.
BC, is it necessary that we have to wear that (ill-fated) third kit? Can’t we not wear our away kit (white)? I am not at all comfortable seeing that kit, it is dreary too!
This is what i have commented on your last post, let me reproduce it:

no offense mate but you are losing viewer ship on ur blog. you start off well but now its going down. ok fans like to be pampered with pro-chelsea articles but u’ve become too biased. your articles are not well researched and contain obvious mistakes and lack of insight on the game and team. just a huble advice to improve yourself.
Hi,I just read that chelseafc might be signing in January(£55m) “but at the right price”…….That will be good news we need to strenghten our team cos we don’t know what will happen during the ban hearing.Well I understand Sergio Kun Aguero is number one on the list, that will add a new dimension to our team, which will be pace currently we don’t have that wiith Ballack and Deco very slow..I hope we make good buys in January.Cheers guys.

the team just get the off day against hammers…Chelsea need to improve the passing tempo…
as for malouda..yes he was crap in hammers’s game…but i’d prefer malouda than deco….
as for joe cole…let’s hope he’ll find his best game and stay fit….
maybe Carlo have to try play Zhirkov, Danny more often….
I’m sure this season will be Chelsea year….
your peoples comment are been blocked
BC is great as usual.Someone please tell me how many matches Chelsea has won without Micheal.Yes Micheal, not Ballack and definitely not Mikel, but our Essien, the one who does all the dirty work for Chelsea. We miss him and that’s a fact.

I agree with u Deco is crap,I prefer Malouda to Deco…..I hope Deco raises his game and also JOEE should also also raise his game..I hope we win the premier and champions league…..Yeah I hope he plays Zhirkov and Sturige often, but I think he his leaving till january when the african boys leave…I hope we sign in january
I agree that we should integrate some of the younger players as weeks go by, these boys r the future of our club! I see no point, however in letting Ballack go, he’s a proven performer, admittedly he hasn’t been good this season, but i think he’ll be crucial without Mikel and Essien. Sturridge I think was fantastic and in our next game i would like to see him start along side Nico,we need to quickly determine who will fill the void that will be didier’s absence. Zhirkov should start every game, he is a fantastic player and he was worth the money. If we r to buy in January it should only be 4 one player, in my opinion one of either aguero or ribery, we need nothing more with the youth coming through. To help raise funds for this i feel we should sell Kalou he is THE ONLY player i feel contributes nothing crucial to the team (as much as i like the player for his work ethic and attitude). Deco has been good in games this season and i don’t feel we should let him go, he gives good depth in that CAM position, and has aided the flexibility of our midfield formation. I feel we should let all ageing players remain at the club until they retire, as most have proved fine servants for the club, and buy no-one except, as i said, either ribery or aguero (preferably aguero), the only player i feel we should sell is kalou, and we should involve the younger players as much as possible looking forward, sorry for rambling anyone who reads this, and here is my team for our next match…
——–Cech————-
Ivanovic—-Riccy—JT—A.Cole
— Matic–
J.Cole——-Lamps——Zhirkov
——–Anelka——Borini— subs: Turnbull, Alex, Belleti, Ballack, Mikel, Malouda, Drogba.
Benitez of Birmingham worries me. He well make life hell for Terry. Alex should play ahead of Carvahlo because of his pace to stop chucho.
I follow Chelsea and live in Cork, anyone else out there?
Much has been said against players like ballack, deco, malouda about they being slow and even shitty ! i don’t find any sense at all in these comments. Ballack has been a consistent starter for chelsea as regular as lamps, if one wonders why because he so good defensively. If you saw deco when he last played, he did play well dribbling past 1 or even 2 players most of the time. However, his passes were little too visionary for our other players, may be another brazilian, etc would have seen them well. Obviously, you don’t expect everyone (ballack, deco, etc) running really Fast towards opponent’s goal like Ashley Cole or Ivanovic !
What I figure out of the bad performances is we have stopped utilizing our physical presence in opponent’s box. Very few crosses from down the flank, left or right. The memory of ashley cole-malauda combo comes to me; FA cup final. These days we just want to break oppo’s defence and score a goal. Ofcourse with ‘fighting 11 players’ behind the ball its difficult.
Yeah Kalou is dull everybody agrees, Sturridge was better. Zhirkov really impressed me. I hope we play him more. But Joe Cole has been out of the world…i know he’s trying real hard to make a difference..but its just not working out right now. Hope he gets better !!
now we will have only borini and sturridge for fulham game as anelka is out till new year AND DROGBA WILL LEAVE FOR Acn
CAMP
congrats frank for being star of the decade. u diserve it and we are all happy that you play in our shirt. we salute u!
we must have 6 pts this christmas and also i am hoping borini and sturridge break their drought with a goal on happy note congrats to frankie lamps for being star of the decade and merry christmas cheers may this festive season bring joy to all chelsea supporters
Benitez of Birmingham worries me. He well make life hell for Terry. Alex should play ahead of Carvahlo because of his pace to stop chucho.
“Chucho” in my language means penis!
Sup Peeps, First and most important KTBFFH and secondly Merry Xmas everyone. Man i’ve not posted on this blog in ages, and to be honest as of late Chelsea aint given me much reasons to post something. Our form as of late has become worrying but at the same time, this is as bad as its gonna get and once we rediscover our killer instinct, well the rest will be history.
Guys I wanted to discuss a few pointers here regarding our supposed transfer kitty of some £55m, well Carlo keeps on insisting we wont buy anyone and i do beleive him to be honest, so im not having any high hopes of seeing the likes of Aguero or Ribery. But interestingly we don’t have to spend any money and still get decent cover for Drogba and Anelka, how you may ask?? Well Luca Toni of Bayern and Goran Pandev of Lazio have become free agents and can be signed for zilch (meaning 0). To be honest both strikers are decent players and decent replacement till Drogba and Anelka are back in the starting line up. We can do what UTD did with Micheal Owen and get a cover striker (specially Pandev) and use them to play in FA Cup and lower sides in the Premier League, what do you guys think??
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you!!
Hello all, just for disussion…watching the developements at ManC and Liverpool, aren’t we lucky to have an onwer like Roman…he has wholeheartedly financed the club, takes deep interest in buying of quality players, wants good football, his dedication to football is also proved by his commitments towards Russian football which is ample proof that his sole aim is not to make profit unlike those yankies at pool or Sheikhs at ManC…he is at Chelsea for his love of footie…and most importantly, he does all this without ever trying to be in limelight…shouldn’t we Chelsea fans be grateful to Roman, and feel lucky to have him…and if possible, to have a nice article on him…
