Chelsea 1-0 Man Utd | Feeling lonely at the top . . .

There you go! A final confirmation that we’re winning the title this season! Chelsea weren’t even at their best but still got the win and moved ahead of the chasing pack by 5 clear points! Wasn’t a great display of attacking football from either teams but it was more like one of those tactical battles between Chelsea and Liverpool.

I thought Ivanovic was brilliant and should have been the man of the match. It was Nicolas Anelka who was the MoTM. He had a fantastic match too. So, we’re staying firmly on top. Let me say that again. We are now 5 points clear of Sunbears!! What a weekend! All your reactions here while I put up a post later. Cheers!

John Terry

Great result. The dirty mancs came to play for a draw. They got exactly what they deserved. And what the hell was the yellow card for Drogba? Evans nearly killed him. If someone did that on the street it would be considered as assault.

2. Julio - 8th Nov

Massive win!!!!!! we must win gainst wolves the next game because we will have a two difficults matchs away against arsenal and city

3. IwasMissingJose - 8th Nov

now comes the loooooong international break before we face arse-anals!

4. Lampard and the Blues - 8th Nov

Ahh I’ve been away from this blog for a bit, but this win just forced me to come back. What a win ! We just dominated the play for major portions of the game, made United look like they were coming to the bridge only for a draw and to top that, it was none other than JT who won it for us ! Good way to end the day, we’re top of the table and like how you put it BC, we’re winning it !

PS- Jonny Evans is a disgrace to football. He should never be allowed to grace the football pitch ever again

KTBFFH !!

5. MourofEssien - 8th Nov

when Man plays so desperately and stil lose to us, it makes the victory all the sweeter. So close they thought but so Far. That is what makes champions. We are marching on. And hope that settles worries that anceloti wil be like scolari.

Poor display, great win however.
Have you seen the interview with rednose after the game. It’s priceless. I have seen it several times no and its just so funny.

Yes and the refs are a work again, didnt give pen, gave offside, gave the goal. You arent as tong as you think and were LUCKY to win…see you at OT were hopefully the ref will see clear pens and offsides. I am bitter…yes

8. Jacob - 8th Nov

Sums it up

Never mind that Drogba was off side in the resulting play from which Terry scored the goal – and after Drogba had pulled Brown to the ground, the man in the best position to directly intercept Terry’s attempt. Never mind the clear cut chance Rooney had early in the first half, when he easily beat the offside trap and bore down on Cesc with every chance of scoring a goal one on one – only to be incorrectly ruled offside. Then there was Terry’s usual professional fouling, which he gets away with time and time again, including bringing down Valencia with what would surely have earned a penalty had anyone else been involved.

Personally I’m getting sick and tired of watching United play against 12 men every time they match up to Chelsea. Most of the recent games between the teams have not been decided by the players on the pitch, but by incompetent match officials. It’s getting to the point where I think it would be in the EPL’s best interests, or at least United’s, to have Continental referees officiate matches, because the team cannot obviously get a fair shake from English officials who are at best incompetent and at worse are simply too easily influenced by a London press that can’t stand a provincial team winning the competition year after year..

Fergie may have been over the top with his comments about Webb a few weeks ago, but anyone who watches the game knows that Webb has often been at the center of numerous controversies in the past between the two teams that have resulted in United losing games. Atkinson seems to be cut from the same cloth – or maybe he’s just a buddy of Webb’s?

What was especially hard to accept today is that for once United looked like they were not only holding their own in the midfield against Chelsea, but often dominated play in the center of the pitch, an area Chelsea usually boss against United. It was the best midfield play I’ve seen from United against Chelsea in a long time, including games like the Champions League final which they fortuitously won. The only other standout performance recently was the lesson they gave the Londoner’s at Old Trafford last season.

A draw would have been a fair result in a game in which both teams played well and had their chances. To see match officials screw it up again though is hard to accept. Little wonder that the United players felt gutted and stated afterwards that they have little faith left in the refereeing system. Maybe the Webb comments are coming back to haunt the side, or maybe England just has some of the worst refs in the game.

Personally I think technology has to come to the fore far more in the game to lessen the negative impact human decisions are having on the outcome. Video replays to determine the validity of goals, perhaps on a finite appeal basis involving team managers. Electronic location devices around each player’s waistband to automatically rule if a player is offside or not. Anything to stop this crap we’re being subjected to week in and week out.

I actually expected Chelsea to win this game reasonably comfortably, given their recent form and United’s problems in defense, especially with Vidic and Ferdinand out. To see the game taken away from them with such lousy officiating, especially after putting in such a sterling effort somewhat against the odds, was pretty galling. I tipped Chelsea to take United’s crown this year, but they sure as hell don’t need help from the officials to accomplish it. In Drogba, Ballack, and Terry, they already have more than enough help in the dirty tricks department without needing help elsewhere.

11. cfc - 8th Nov

What a result .. Terry finally must have got some salvation after scoring against Man United.. Wow the press is still crying about unlucky Utd..

Oh , I thought John Evans should have been shown a straight Red for the foul on Drogba and given a penalty .. 50-50 challenge, but so was lampard against Xabi alonso , which cost us our game against liverpool a season back..

Performance wise, it was Ok. After the international break, we play 4 important games – Porto away ( To top the group), Arsenal Away ( they are just two points behind, considering the game in hand) , Carling cup quarter final with Blackburn, Man City .. As Joe cole said, we need to get as much points before Jan , so that we have breather during african cup of nations.

@JAcob,
Hey JA!!! Is that all U got, U whiner?!?!?!?! Be gracious in defeat man. Accept the fact that it was a tight match and in matches like these, only a moments brilliance will decide the winner. It was our day.So dont cry like the scousers or the Arse-anals fans. I thought ManU fans were bit more practical than the other two. Before you complain, just imagine how many times your darling boy. Ronal-dive had done his oh-no-an-avalanche-pushed-me kinda acts. We atleast dint cheat like him. As of now, lick your wounds and see what you can do next, rather than whining abt it.

Hey guys what is your opinion about Jesus Navas from sevilla. It is really hard to get aguero from Athletico. They are demanding high money. We should buy a mid player.

22. trueplatinum - 8th Nov

ashley cole has a depressed fracture
now how many of you guys will agree now when you didn’t before
we need to buy a leftback
ferreira, bosingwa and belletti are our only fullbacks
ivanovic is not really a fullback, neither is alex
i dont want us to have a makeshift backline like we did when we had gallas, piling in 4 centrebacks and hoping the job gets done
we should get someone capable of starting but would obviously be second string
anyhoo
that aside
top of the table…….order is restored

23. IwasMissingJose - 8th Nov

looking at the number of games we play I´d say get Lahm. he wants his way out!

24. cfc - 8th Nov

With Ashley and Jose Bosingwa out , we are without our first choice full backs. I hope Zhirkov ( if he is out of mystery illness) and Ivanovic can provide necessary cover.

We enter the crucial period – dec / jan where we lost the pl last couple of season. Just looked at the schedule. It is just too much.. 4 continous away games ( 3 of them are big oponents) after Wolves one, hope ancelloti rests key players for the blackburn clash..

Oh yes, claims the “classy” bandwagon Manure supporter who’s trolling on a CFC blog, hiding behind his keyboard in the comfort of his own home. Try telling CFC fans how classless you think they are in public for a change then. And no, we probably won’t delete your posts because they just show how low you guys will stoop to; bringing in the personal lives of our players to discredit them and yet nonchalantly declaring yourselves as “classy”.

One has to fall to the ground, when he is beautifully/barbarically kicked-studs-up in the chest ! If it seems wrong, I would strongly insist Fergie to leave the manager job and become a ref :D ..he surely wud have given a red card to Drogs..

right u are i hate evans…. drogs yellow card should be over turned and evans be given a match ban or two for dangerous play!!

37. trueplatinum - 8th Nov

i’ll tell you what blatantly happened, Vidic was upset because Drogba slapped him in the face in Moscow and put his teeth through his lip at Stamford Bridge, he thought, hey Johnny Evans, fiver to kick didier. It wouldn’t surprise me

But in seriousness, now that Drogba is missing an international game, and we all know how he loves cote d’ivoire
it obviously was not complete playact, and if the ref saw the challenge, he should have punished Evans with a red, in fact, very close to being a penalty.
Unfortunately the rules of Football have made it so if a referee sees a challenge, the Fifa body won’t punish as they see fit (which they should). They will overturn the yellow card should we appeal it.

belletti could retire soon, ferreira will be standing in on the left and ivanovic on the right. Things could get easier when Alex is ready to play but even still, I would like us to at least buy a leftback in January
I expect us to make 2 or 3 little signings. Our ban is only suspended, it might not even be overturned, Ancelotti will be thinking of that in the next window so he has to buy what we may well need in 2 years time

You are absolutely right. We have been joking about manure being a one man team and loserpool a two man team. Chelsea does not belong to that kind of teams anymore, we have the depth in our squad. With Lampard out the others will just have to step up their game a notch. Bosingwa out, we have Ferreira or even Zhirkov. Terry out (that’s a bit more problematic), Alex can step in. I would actually say its to our advantage that we have to show our strength this early in the season, a midfield of Ballack, Essien, J.Cole, Malouda, Deco would do just fine for me. Defence Alex, Ferreira, Ivanovic, A, Cole, Belletti, Ricardo, that should be enough to choose from.
So as you might have noticed we have plenty of quality to get us through an “injury crisis” and later on pass with flying colours (Blue of course) during the ACN.
And with Ancelotti to steer the course, we will end up with the silverware we deserve this season.

Playing against Gunners without Drogba..

62. JoseHoliday - 8th Nov

Gentlemen,

Let’s not be over-worried by the loss of some admittedly key personnel for the match against Arsene-Arsenal.
Chelsea have quality backups whop though a bit rusty should do OK.

Just pack the midfield, keep it snappy at the back and nick a goal from a set-piece via Ivanovich’s head and it’s done.

Now honestly, when ever have Chelsea feared the one-trick pony called Arsenal ?

Bring Van Percival and Monsier Gallas on and give them a fitting reception !

63. CFCIR - 8th Nov

No Drogba+Lampard+A.Cole=? Do you think that anelka can hurt arsenal deffence lonely with someone like kalou.?
It is so hard but POSSIBLE.

64. IwasMissingJose - 8th Nov

why are you guys over worried? There is still good 2 weeks time before Arse-anal game. Lamps and Bosingwa are definetely out, but i guess DD and A. cole may be back right on time. We can do few games without super lamps. and for Bosingwa we have Ivan in super form.

67. trueplatinum - 8th Nov

drogba apparrently has a broken rib
and the way he got it, that could have been fatal
the fa needs to step in here
well from what I understand
mikel, ashley cole, bosingwa, lampard, terry, ballack, zhirkov and malouda are all injured/carrying injuries, this is not ideal
I’m not saying we need players, but one or two utility guys could prove handy in future, trouble is finding people like ferreira is difficult
well terry should be back within the week
lampard will need 3 weeks
drogba will need at least 3 weeks
bosingwa is out for 3 months
dunno bout ashley or mikel
ballack and zhirkov have mystery injuries and malouda will be back within the week

68. BluePaddy - 8th Nov

I think the news are bad enough already before the internationals, I hope the others will stay healthy after !!!

i suggest we completely play our second string players against Porto and Wolverhampton, so that players get enough rest until ARse-anal game. Although its unlikely DD would feature due to Fucking Evans, i hope he would atleast play 20 minutes, settle the game and get subbed. By then if we are lucky we could have all Zhirkov, Ballack, Malouda, and hopefully Lampard and DD fit. 2 weeks a long time, anything can happen!

It is a tricky situation. If we drop point against wolves, we will be under pressure. Remember same time last year after the international, we drew against Newcastle , bordeau and then lost against arsenal. Against porto, if we get a draw , we are good as we can top the group. else they will top the group. I think we should play second string players for the carling cup against blackburn.. even if we lose, it is not that bad because carling cup semi final is 2 leg game and played in January , when we lose 4 players – atleast the remaning ones would be fresh.

71. DanaBlue - 8th Nov

Here is a little comfort to the ones of you who is overly worried about our small injury niggles ahead of our clash with Arse-anal. van Persie might be out for month with an injury sustained in a friendly match.

Well our current second string team comprises of

—————-Hilario/Turnbull————-
Belleti — Alex—-Ivan —- Zhirkov/Ferreira
—————–Mikel———————–
–Kalou/Matic——————–Malouda
————Deco/Joey—————
——Kalou————Sturridge/Borini—

with our First team players at the bench! And i bet this second choice team we have is better than other 16 lower teams from the bottom and has 12 Internationals. So this team should theoritically beat a team like Wolves and draw against Porto. Its possible if those who didn´t joint the internationals this week trained hard for these matches from now.

73. IwasMissingJose - 8th Nov

besides this team would encourage smaller teams to open up and attack more. therefore making them more vulnerable of conceding one if we play tactically intact.

74. Jasix - 8th Nov

What a game it was! Top of the league and we’re havin’ a laugh! :) Cheers mates!

Why re we talking abt arsenal game? I think d most important game at d moment is d wolves game. We must win d wolves game, so that we can face arsenal without pressure on us. I think terry, ashley, and drogba will be back 4 d arsenal game. I am not worried, i want 2 see zhirkov against wolves.

76. IwasMissingJose - 8th Nov

@Stino,

We are talking about Arsenal game because they are our direct titel rivals. If we can win against Arsenal, no matter what the result against Wolves, we can still maintain the gap between the nearest rivals. Its not only taking 3 points but also stealing 3 points from our titel rivals. Thats why big 4 games are necessary to be won, coz it not only gives us 3 points per game, but also increases the distance between them and makes our place safer at the top.

77. trueplatinum - 8th Nov

cheers paddy
well, we can still put together 4-3-2-1 (christmas tree)
zhirkov can play leftback, malouda left midfield and inside foward, deco, ballack and joey can cover the right and we still have essien and mikel for the middle so in fact, quite a strong line up available

stino is right
wolves game first up
I dont think it will be too much hassle but won’t be a walk in the park

In honesty, if Paddy is right, we aren’t suffering much at all

Most of Arsenal’s games have been against stragglers, Chelsea have beaten 2 of the big four already. Arsenal have only played one of the top 4 this season and lost.
Many people assumed arsenal would struggle as they had vermaelan to replace toure and adebayor also left. However, although thomas vermaelan makes up for kolo toure in some way, adebayor was not a loss, getting rid of him is productive for arsenal. A new formation means arshavin, walcott, van persie and fabregas can have a less defensive approach to the game and that is what you are seeing the benefits of. Arsenal may be scoring 3plus goals a game, but without the points its meaningless and if im not mistaken, even if they win their game in hand, arsenal are 2 points behind chelsea, and the two sides have yet to play eachother
typically, the tradition is for man utd to start their games slowly and eventually start pacing ahead, chelsea to start the season hampered by injuries, liverpool just to surprise us and arsenal play amazingly, and finish badly.
4th for several years running, Arsenal are not about to win the premiership anytime soon
the title will always be between chelsea and man utd and I have to say, I predict Chelsea to come out with the title
not because im a fan, but rather ancelotti has gotten chelsea moving the ball quickly. Chelsea aren’t running the ball into space like arsenal do, but are passing it, requiring alot less energy, their players always seem fresh compared to other teams.
Arsenal may well finish up the highest scoring team, but as usual, that doesnt mean biggest goal difference and before christmas, they will be conceeding goals. I will also point out Chelsea beat Arsenal with a 3 goal margin in their last encounter
Basically, the turning point for chelsea will be january, if they are still on top after the acn, the title is theirs

Whoever we re bringing in jan, we must make space for the returning miroslave stoch. The lad is too good and controlling Twente’s midfield, he is also banging in goal. I think the tip of the midfield ‘ll be ideal 4 him. He must start playing immediately he comes back, he is our own messi. I belive stoch is the player we ‘ve been looking for.

Schocking !! Russia not there in 2010. This leaves Guus free, but what do we do now. Carlo is also doing good . :)

Hope this will not distract Roman or our club, but still I am unable to believe Guus failed taking a team to worldcup. Are the playoffs introduced only for this world cup?

Chelsea has to splash 70m for aguero . Athletico madrid are SOB.I am really happy that they are 18th on LaLiga.
I think Boroni and Strudidge can cover Drogba and Kalou,But we steel need more young mid players.

Arsenal Lost and I hope manutd will be held to a goalless draw. Now Chelsea need to march on Arsenal next week to really stamp our hands on the league from this month. That will be a Christmas gift in advance.
