We didn’t see it coming, did we? It was a rude shock considering that the predictions were 3-1 and 3-0 in favour of Chelsea and what we saw was the just the opposite. Ancelotti had to lose his first Chelsea match at some point of time. It had to happen yesterday. Sadly for us, on the day we lost, all our rivals notched their regulation wins yesterday.
Let’s give the credit where it’s due. Wigan absolutely deserved the win and also the margin to some extent. When I saw the match, Wigan looked more determined and stronger. They played good football. They induced errors from Chelsea. It was not just Chelsea playing, it was more of Wigan playing their match of the season. But teams like Chelsea get their moment of brilliance and quality and bail themselves out. That part did not happen yesterday.
The first goal we conceded was a shame. No way someone’s going to put in a header like that in the Chelsea penalty box. There was no challenge on Bramble. No one was really jumping and shoving to make it difficult for them. We very poorly underestimated them in that corner and we were properly punished. John Terry needs to pul up his sleeves. He is the captain. He is the organiser of the defence. He should take responsibility for such a poor show by the Chelsea defence. This is not a knee-jerk reaction. We have been conceding some very cheap goals through poor defending this season, right from the pre-season. Terry himself has been guilty of some lapse of concentration himself. Remember that goal Stoke City scored against us? Despite all this, since we always manage to outscore the opponent, it was never a big concern. But now, it has proved costly.
The red card did have a huge impact on the match. To play an away match with 10 players for 40 minutes is quite difficult. And if that missing man is Petr Cech, you’re going to be concerned. There are some discussions over the red card and the penalty. I think it was a penalty surely but to give a straight red was a bit tough on he keeper. Anyway, I have zero faith on Phil Dowd as a referee. He looks like a bloody egoist who loves to make controversial decisions so he can read his name in the newspapers the next day.
When Cech was sent off, Chelsea had to make a substitution. Malouda was taken off and Hilario replaced him. I was bit unhappy that Malouda was taken off. I’m very sure it had to be Anelka. When you’re playing with 10 men, each of these players will have to put in an extra shift, run and work harder and Anelka is not the man I would have on the pitch, if I need to play with 10 players. Malouda must have stayed on, undoubtedly.
Many of our players had a bad game, notably, Frank Lampard. It’s not very often he has a game like that. It’s for that reason, I won’t slate him. If Lampard is shite, it’s upto the manager to replace him. Lampard is talismanic. He can have his moment anytime irrespective of his form or the stage of the match. In all this, let’s not forget that Didier Drogba has scored his 100th goal for Chelsea. Great milestone for this Chelsea legend. It’s sad that it had to come in a losing match. It’s a great milestone nevertheless. Hope he goes to touch the 150 goal mark early next season.
Ancelotti has been working on this Chelsea team. He’s getting to know the players. I heard that until the Spurs match Carlo didn’t know about the relationship between Lampard and Harry Redknapp. He’s learning the language too. His ‘this is football’ phrase is dangerously reminiscent of an ex-manager. He needs to improve his vocabulary so that he doesn’t sound like losing is okay. Of course he didn’t mean it but his poor vocabulary may not help his cause.
This team under Carlo has been going through the cycles. They have now had a winning streak. They have won a match in the stoppage time. They have come back to win matches. They have completely dominated teams. The one thing they could not do is to show their resilience after losing a match. Now they’ve got that too. I’ve always had this theory – If you’re losing to rivals, it’s gotta be a close affair. That’s how you can retain your confidence and keep your momentum. If you’re losing to smaller teams, lose big. Lose by some margin. That way, the complacency gets destroyed completely.
Let’s cheer the boys, after all, it’s not very often that they lose or concede three goals. And even those teams that lose and concede goals on a regular basis get cheered by their fans. Next week, Liverpool visit Stamford Bridge. The timing of this defeat might just be helpful. Look at John Terry applauding the visiting fans, you can see how disappointed he is. Now the blues are a pack of wounded animals. Liverpool, coming from a comfortable one-sided win, must face the wrath of Chelsea, who were humbled by a bottom half team. It’s going to be a great match next week. If Chelsea beat Liverpool, all will be forgotten. Bring back, Joe Cole, the Liverpool-slayer! It’s bounce-back time!

beat pool we will forget this one
im not mad that we lost, im more mad that we lost like that. they diddnt give all at any point. not one!! they where walking around. lampard was confused anelka really svcked big time, he really should be benched next game. cole was never back after he attacked. wigan players walked passed bosingwa and carvalho. mikel made a hundred misstakes. it hurted to watch the game. after the first 30 minutes i was wondering when they will put in the second gear. but it never came. when we scored i felt we was back but after cech got a red card i knew the game was lost. and why the fvck would you change malouda when anelka sucked that much. in a good day we would have won the game even if cech was red carded but this day was something else. next game i wanna se balack back for mikel and joe cole back for anelka and we play the christmas tree formation with malouda and joe cole behind drogba. and i would like to se zhirkov come in later on if the game turns our way, hopefully.
C’MON CHELSEA!!!
I really wonder what is happening to Mikel this season. For chrissakes the guy was a gem for most of last season. And quite frankly, Lampard has not had that many good games under ancellotti. He has not been the Lampard we know. I may be able to understand Mikel struggling in a new system – which is a soft excuse really since he still largely plays the holding role in ,idfield when he’s on- but Lampard, that’s our most brilliant player and not just in the football sense alone.
Really getting frustrated over the Lampard issue. I understand the coach mayb e trying to work it so we dnt depend on any individual player, but we have to use what we have. Isn’t it.
As much as you wanna let it go, there’s a bit of Mourinho here:
His wiining record still stands (matched by Carlo now) and what happens next came for Mourinho words when he had a similar winning run in Porto interrupted by a defeat:
“Now,next adversary will have to pay”
Forgot to say:
He did make them pay,it was against Sporting and they trashed them.Hope to see same attitude next weekend.
It seems that we the fans (at least those who have commented ) are mature and not treating every setback as the end of the world and demanding that the player be perfect automatons all the time.
Chelsea has always been a very ” Italian” team since the Mourinho times, and it is no surprise he himself went to Italy and Ancelotti came , so therefore the very Italian qualities of being patient, tactical and ruthless are present in Chelsea’s play .
The occasional loss should in no way cause a knee-jerk reaction.
One thing I am worried with is the come from behind wins against weaker teams rather than the last match !
Anyways Liverfoolls shall meet stiff determined opposition next week end !
But then again Chelsea’s losing matches or drawing against lesser opponents always seem to affect me and ruin my week .
Unconsciously, at least, I am always affected ( till the next win ? ) . I shall need a stiff round of toddy tonight to banish this loss and its effects !
KTBFFH !
Well, i guess our first loss under Carlo had to come at some point. Somehow i felt it when i learned Phil Dowd was gonna handle the match. Is it coincidence that anytime Phil Dowd handles our away matches we either lose or draw the match? Anyways, we can’t win them all and if we were gonna have a blip it’s best we do it early on. I believe Carlo has a way of turnning this around and some of the players need to put their hands up and admit they need to perform better.
BC, i have to say this again, if this transfer ban is hopefully overturned then Mikel needs to be worried. The guy simply lacks self confidence and football is about confidence. I have not seen the “potential” Mikel is always purported to have. Is it not surprising that he is the only midfielder in Chelsea not to have scored a league goal? Even Maka scored a couple. That should tell u something.
CHelsea vs Liverlooser

Chelsea 2-0 Liverpool
Everybody seem to be waiting to join Mr. Ballack for a birthday party or something cause it was a pathetic performance from the blue army. Wigan played Smart but they didn’t even have to do any great effort to outplay us. They were cruising around the pitch with ease. I agree the Red card really killed us. and I think the team underestimated Wigan despite Boss Ancelotti trying to say no team is unbeatable and Wigan is a touch side.
Nways I rather lose to Wigan and trash poop. and now the team have to show its true champions color. Come one Chelsea
Any news on Ashley and Obi Injury. Our injury list is increasing- Deco, Ballack, Ashley, Obi , Sturridge
If we introduce Zhirkov and Joe in team, we will probably play them without much match practise to diamond system against Liverpool..
Javier Mascherano and Yossi Benayoun are not playing tomorrow Champions league game against Fiorentina.
wigan game, we were trash, had no fight, got complacent, do they not remember the struggle we had with wigan in the past?
anyway, liverpool lost tonight, if we pick up a hard earned win with a cleansheet, it will do us good. The liverpool game will be horrible to watch. With Cech out, our defence is instantly shakey, im hoping ross turnbull will get a go in goal, he is more agile than hialrio although very young.
I said in the off season, we need a second left back, we could have brought in an academy player like bertrand or anyone else in, but we didnt. Some guys on here said to me I was being pessismistic when I said “if zhirkov and ashley get injured at the same time, we’ll be in trouble” we need ashley for the liverpool match.
Liverpool are a new threat, they have a very aggressive wingback, so effectively, every attack they make has an extra man than before. Our key to unlocking liverpool is through the wings, particularly the left side, we need a big game from they to steal the win.
Otherwise, yeah we’re second, but man utd lost to burnley, and liverpool lost to tottenham (who we battered 3-0) but now we have a chance to say hey, we drop points unexpectedly, but we take the back from rivals, that is the message we need this coming weekend (ps, i hate liverpool)
Why did Liverpool lose today … I hate that .. don’t get me wrong .. but whenever they lose, the bounce back dangerously..
ashley cole has trained but seems like may not be risked, joe cole has a slight problem wid cold so most prob starts from bench, Paulo hasnt travelled, bos and drog suspended , mikel and ballack slight injuries,, so my guess wud be ,,
cech,
ivanovic, ricky, JT, Yuri Zhirkov
essien, lampard,
kalou, deco,malouda,
anelka.
hilario, belletti, jcole, a cole, and 3 academy, borini, bruma and sam Hutchinson
dont worry che will want to win as well lierpool will loose on sunday

since when is Ferreira not one of the best….. the guy is good…. !
carlo should have taken off Anelka and keep malouda on…
Important win today , Just one more match without didier in cl and it is a home tie. So hopefully we can make that count..
The worry that remains is Lampard is yet to score from open play after 10 games..
I was on a holiday in a no-TV and no-internet zone. But i tuned into Radio 5 Live on BBC and was traumatised to hear teh commentary. Cech’s mistake was costly, and it was a yellow, not red! Had it been manure or loserpool, it would surely have been yellow…dowd is an arse-hole!
I hope Chelsea will learn their lesson and build on a narrow win yesterday. I have read it on CFC website that we have played a far boring game yesternight. I am starting to get worried.
But i pray Drogba will continue to score goals and Lampard will score 20+ again (seems less probable at this rate). And i am hopeful that ANC won’t cost us dearly.
With worries filling my head, i pray deeply that Chelsea will prove to be the best!
I ahve even forgotten to play IKTS and got -15 points in Gameweek 7 :(
Lampard really frustrating last night. Seem there is no confident on how he played. For me, Essien is MOM.
As a side note: Robben (aka Glassman) got injured (again) last night.Althought I feel sry for the man I’m glad Chelsea sold him at the right time… :P
He is what?24?Imagine in two or three years time…
I think im not alone when I say Lampard’s form is starting to worry quite a few of us, he just seems really short of confidence on the pitch. When was the last time u remember Lamps going 10 games without a goal?? Even when he is presented with a chance to score he is hitting them wide and way off target. This is really scary when u consider just how important Lamps is to Chelsea and with Liverpool clash looming on top of our heads the current Chelsea form is giving me nightmares. Liverpool losing the other night means they will be in a rampant mood and with Torres on fire domestically the signs don’t look good. Chelsea really need to pick themselves up and start performing before this all turns into another LFS type of fiasco. Carlo needs to have a word with Lamps and start getting the best of him because atm he looks very ordinary. We were terrible last night, waste of possesion, 2 shots on goal, conceding 12 corners and allowing a team few have heard of almost nick a goal. Mistakes like that will cost us deerly against Pool because they will punish us the minute we give them a chance. I just keep coming back on the whole Lamps issue because it’s really starting to bother me see him underperform match after match now, this is not the Frank Lampard who is widely considered as one of the best amf in the world, something needs to change!!
Jaz,
I am worried too; Lampard missing on that perfect cross was unbelievable. But i ahve full hope and faith in him.
What i fear is that the diamond midfield is not so relevant to us, to Lampard, i may be wrong. And other reason could be Carlo may be failing to communicate properly with teh players, he need to learn English language seriously.
Chelsea needs lots of good luck wishes, i keep praying!

He was talking about left back…Ferreira can do left too but he is not a “natural” left back.Anyway, makes a good backup.
“carlo english is very good he is communicating properly” Jaz
I think we have to worry about Lampard’s goal drought!
Article from BBC

Before the kickoff, I sure there will more discussion – the famous one would be Gerrard vs Lampard and the they would give one point more to Gerrard.. Hate that..
Another new one started is Drogba vs Torres .
