Chelsea 3-0 Tottenham | On top of the table . . .
Same old Chelsea! Turning up late and then turning up the heat. The first 15 minutes, I thought we were playing in White Hart Lane. Chelsea were a bit sluggish and allowed Spurs to have the ball and run with it. That was the period Spurs must have scored if they had to have any hopes of a point from this match. Once we woke up and turned up, Spurs never matched Chelsea in any part of the pitch.
The only blemish on a fantastic derby result for Chelsea was Drogba’s injury. Still no news about how serious it is. He’s so important for Chelsea that I can’t imagine us winning 6 in a row like this without Drogba. I hope it was only a scratch on his knee and he’s ready to play a match of 90 minutes even tomorrow.
We played our best possible eleven. There was no Joe Cole or Zhirkov on the bench. But there was a Borini though. Like you, I was pleased and excited to see Borini on the pitch. Borini had scored a brace for the reserves earlier this month. Being an 18-year old and having a name like Fabio Borini, he did thrill me as he stepped in. I was certainly thrilled to see him. Like Franco di Santo, he came in around the 85th minute. He had a couple of touches on the ball which is never enough to judge a player. At least he did not pass it to Defoe like Carlton Cole did. By the way, is Borini the only Italian company that Carletto can have. I almost forgot, what happened to Sturridge?
Typically, we were a bit forgiving at the beginning. Spurs were attacking our goal repeatedly and even had some close shots and saves. And then, at around the 20th minute, Chelsea started to settle down and by the half hour mark, we played with such authority that I thought we were never going to lose points today. I was fearing that Bosingwa’s right back area would be cracked open but luckily it was not to be so. Instead, Bosingwa had a superb match with an outrageous long shot hitting the bar.
The first goal was a beauty. Look where Ashley Cole was. Like the Sky Sports guys noted, Bosingwa and Ashley Cole were playing like wingers. Ashley Cole was lurking in the area and also had smelled the goal at the right time. His movement inside the box and that diving header was undefenderlike (how about that for a word)! The second goal was all Frank Lampard. Some goal mouth madness let the ball loose to the byline and Lampard was ever so aware of where he is, where the ball is and where he needs to pass. He did a perfect flick to Ballack who finished it well. Third goal was Didier Drogba’s. He waits for those kind of balls and when he sees gets one like that, he’s going do what he does best.
In the first half, Spurs should have been awarded a penalty for Carvalho’s tackle on Keane. It was a clear penalty because there was good enough contact for a penalty to be given. But Keane fell on the ground because he tripped himself down. Anyway, a penalty on Ballack was not given too. And what about that handball? Lampard’s freekick was blocked by a Spurs defender in the wall. If that’s not intentional handball, what is?
I felt sorry for Carlo Cudicini. Before the kick off, Chelsea had presented Cudicini an award for his service at the club. Now, that’s how you treat an ex-player – with love and respect. I’m sorry for him as he had to at the receiving end while we notched our 11th straight league win – a club record.
Despite playing too many matches in short intervals, Chelsea were supremely fit. It looked like Spurs were the ones who had to play mid-week. As a defence lover, I must say, watching Chelsea defend and to control the midfield is so much fun. We defended superbly, we worked for each other and there was tremendous teamwork there. Unfortunately, teamwork is more visible only in attacking moves. In reality, the teamwork that we display in midfield and in defence is as good as that of Barcelona’s teamwork in attack. But we don’t get as much credit for playing so well as a team in midfield and defence.
Oh yes, the Manchester derby was fantastic from a neutral point of view. It was a poor football match full of errors and blunders but it certainly was exciting. The game was never going to end until Manure scored. Because that’s exactly what the referee was waiting for. Why on earth was there a stoppage time of 7 minutes when nothing of note happened? At worst, the final whistle must have come off after 4:30 while the Owen goal was scored at around 5:30. Absolutely pathetic!
So we’re on top of the table – no problem of goal difference or no game-in-hand nonsense. We’re on top of the table by winning all six matches and having a superior goal difference of 12. A goal difference of 12 in just 6 matches is very impressive. And, we have passed first big test of the season. Next week, we travel to Wigan and put Liverpool where they belong the next week. Before all that, we have another derby coming up when we play QPR on Wednesday in League Cup. We must see Joe Cole, Zhirkov, Sturridge and little more of Fabio Borini.
On the gaming side, both demos of both FIFA 10 and PES 2010 have been released. I’ve downloaded and played both. You can see my first impressions on these games in BC Huddle under the category ‘footie gaming’. It’s going to be a great four weeks from a football point of view. I just can’t for the final release of these games. Can’t I just move the slider from September to October tonight?

God! i still can’t see any team beating chelsea.bc is a great site and we all appreciate what you offer us.come on you blues!
good recap BC!
our start have been our weakness for long now and we gotta do something about that. I think the new addition of Joey and Zhirkov will do us a great deal. yea joey feels like a new signing I cant even remember last time he played.
Keeping my fingers crossed for DD to be up and running for wigan game.
The Manchester derby was of the hook. I was positively surprised by how well and strong city played in the first half. Mark Hughes messed up though in the second by moving Ireland to the left and playing wit both strikers (Bellamy Tevez). They were played out of the park by united whom absolutely dominated them. considering this and the fact that united gave away 2 goals it was fair in the end. But like you BC, I couldn’t figure out why he never blew the whistle after the four added min were up.
Beside our games this was the most exiting and fun game to watch so far.
City are no joke and will give everyone a hard time. man
ASHLEY COLE pwned tottenham!
We are simply unstoppable. There is no doubt that this season is ours. Pls, i want to see more of fabio Borini in the carling cup
i like being right with my predictions
bosingwa had an ace of a game, only undone by ashley cole because he scored
crouch was an issue, but came on very late, and for the wrong player, defoe was taking very few shots but to be fair, the referee today was very poor
i dont say the carvahlo on keane challenge is a penalty for the reason carvahlo moved his foot away from keane’s legs, it was ricardo’s knee that touched keane, the contact was minimal, on top of that, keane dived at the end when the keeper collected the ball looking for a penalty.
I also call a gripe, there were some nasty fouls on the edge of the tottenham box, however, advantage was played and when lampard finally took the ball through the gaps, play was stopped and a free kick was given, that isn’t advantage?
I think Defoe was lucky to stay on for the whole match
I was very impressed with ballack today, ill also add, our passing is brilliant right now, inch perfect
hope that didier isn’t nastily injured, although he did appear to twist himself. Who is fabio borini, never heard of him until today, poor sturridge
Any news on Drogba injury . I would rest him for QPR and Wigan.. Want a fit Didier for Liverpool clash …
Am still hurt from the 1-0 defeat last time at bridge..
And we must not forget the clean sheet! Superb for Cech!
I think that Didier was not offside, and had the linesman not made that mistake Didier would surely have slotted that early goal for us.
I wasn’t impressed by Ballack. At one point he earned a clear header and could have scored but he didn’t even jump. However, things improved a lot after he found the back of the net, thanks to creative and hardworking Lampard assist.
I am elated that by all measures, Lampard would be topping the “assist” list, he is the creator of goals!
Nico wasn’t at his best either, several bad passes and one to Bosingwa nearly cost us dear!
At 41st minute, we were denied a clear penalty, but i think the officials were fair enough. I can’t imagine how referee gifted Manure 2 extra points…and it was disgusting to see red-nose touching and laughing with All-ass Wiley!
About the sp*rs, i think midget defoe deservedf to be shown yellow for his tackle on Essien and later on on Didier! And Jen-ass for never-ending dissent and always poking his round and inflated nose!
But what the heck who all win or lose, who all get favoured or not, beating tots with three superb goals can’t be more sweeter!
Chelsea is in my heart! And i pray Didier will be fine, just wish nothing much serious happened to him!
Borini was a welcome sight, but am wondering where Sturridge is!
Hopefully the Drogs injury is not that serious. The reasons IMO why I think it is a 1 week max injury:
1) Drogs is a bit of an injury princess (come’on we all know it)
2) It was his calf he was holding not his knee – A calf injury can be niggling but extremely rarely would it be a season ending type of injury.
My guess Drogs was just soaking up some more time and is not hurt near as bad as we think.
Perfectly put BC, it was as if the referee was waiting for Man U to score. As we saw Mark Hughes was frustrated even before the goal was scored because it was time up already. One thinks if there would have been extra-extra time, had City been dominating.
Sir Alex shared a laugh with the 4th official after the goal on the touchline and so did Giggs with the referee after the match. It was as if giggs & sir alex were thanking the officials for another brilliant performance by the refs against another man u opposition!
An effective new tactic seems to be deployed Red Devils. When they are trailing, they run fast with the ball around the penalty area and if an opposition players tries to get the ball, they dive, all animated as if they were hit badly. Then comes the ref’s part, giving a free kick mindlessly even if there was slightest contact. And in Giggs they have someone who can put inch-perfect crosses, someone rises (rooney, fletcher etc) and with a little help from poor opposition defences, they score! Berbatov did it against Tottenham (he seems to be falling all over the place!) and evra did it yesterday by trying to go between two players. What are the two city players in question supposed to do? Lets him a safe passage from between them? And giggs put in a perfect cross and fletcher scored! City were terrible defensively.
Man U played good football, no doubt. They were all over in City’s half in the second half. City like Tottenham couldn’t play their own game and invited Man U over them. That’s suicide against the Big 4. But these ref decisions have been too kind in Man U’s cause and I wonder when they stop!
Our performance was amazing. We have now mastered the diamond formation and now it becomes our strength. At the start of the season we all had our doubts, but now we can see the power given to our amazing full-backs. Cole already has scored twice, Bosingwa struck the post and expect more goals from them. Cole now looks amazing for our fantasy teams! Hope there’s nothing major in Drogba’s condition and the likes of sturridge, borini, hutchinson get more chances to play in the carling cup matches as well as premier league matches. KTBFFH…..!!!
I kinda feel sorry for spurs, their 2 first choice defenders got injured.
Bye bye top 4 finish!
As for Manu, i can’t believe the amount of support refs give them.
Recover soon, Drogba. Don’t forget this is your season!
I don’t feel sorry for sp*rs…would never in my life!
On a completely different note: Roman’s love for Chelsea may be big – but his 1st love is obviously his yacht fleet. Check out the new anti-paparazzi tech!

guys STOCh scored for FC twente 2 times!!!!!!
it’ great to see stoch scoring a brace.
i have heard drogba will be rested so that he is 100 percent for liverpool clash
good news drogba injury only a horrendous cramp so he will be fine very soon
Hey guys ,do you have any news about our 2 transfer bans ?Kenyon is going out and he did nothing at this moment for our ban.
Joey and Zhirkov are starting tomorrow match. Hope that Sturridge and Borini also starts, but i think it might be kaluo and Sturridge.
Nemanja Matic is another player who might start..
Great game by the Blues. I really felt insulted by Arry’s comments prior to the game. He really should be showing more class than that. So the Spuds get a good start to the season and he thinks he can play mind games with us. The lads were great and Ash and Malouda are firing. I have come to appreciate Malouda’s worth to the team and i think Yuri would need to produce something extra to dislodge him. Anyways, we r playing well, winning games, however, i would still caution fans to be very careful in drawing conclusions. I for one have been cautiously optimistic. The ghost of Scolari looms large. Lets just wait till we’ve faced Loserpool and one more of the top 4. Long may the good run continue. Up Blues!!
CHELSEA VS QPR
————–Cech—————-
-Belletti—Terry–Carvlho–A.Cole-
–J.Cole–Mikel–Zhirkov–Lampard–
——–Sturridge–Kalou———
daniel sturridge is injured with a slight calf problem so kalou to start with borini theni think
i think we will see ross turnbull in goal, sam hutchinson, john terry, ricardo carvahlo and ashley cole in defence
essien, mikel, joey and zhirkov with anelka and kalou up front
should be a comfortable win
would hope to see dan sturridge get a run out but i think borini and belletti will get the nod ahead of him
where do they show the game
Hey guys, does anyone know where I can watch the match online?
I can’t find the match over here in the States either. It’s not on FSC, Setanta or ESPN. I think the best bet is to watch it on your PC in the BC chat room and people will be posting links on where you can find it using ‘seedier’ methods. =)
borini starts. joe cole, zhirkov, hutchinson and feirerra too.
Did any one see today’s game. How did the team play. Slightly disappointed that the score was only 1-0. How is Fabio Borini and did Nemanja Matic get a chance..
Amazing derby win.
Congratulations to Ashley, Michael and Didier for their great performances and also to Cech for another clean sheet.
Start of Borini era.
Young generation to overcome FIFA ban.
