There’s the first of many trophies that I hope Chelsea win this season. We are the champions of the 2009 World Football Challenge. It’s a great name for running around on a football pitch against just four teams in a foreign country primarily for marketing reasons. World Football Challenge makes you feel like you’re the ultimate champion of a knock out tournament containing 512 club teams from all over the world. That’s how the Americans like it. They put the ‘world’ in front of everything (no political pun intended). Let’s not take anything away from Chelsea. They were super-fit , took these games seriously, they played very good football and they won four out of four. Very deservedly the champions of the World Football Challenge!
The best thing about the match against Club America was the fact that Di Santo and Malouda scored. I have a soft corner for both and with the arrival of Sturridge and Zhirkov, they need to show their worth to fight, compete and win their places. Malouda is just continuing from where he left last season. He was already growing in confidence and his new contract would certainly unleash the real Malouda that won the player of the season in Lique 1.
I’ve been waiting for a Di Santo goal for many months now. It was a very well taken goal. I was most certainly reminded of Hernan Crespo. I’m sure Di Santo will play more this season and will be a surprise package this season. I’ve gone on record to say that Di Santo has better off the ball movement than Anelka. I still stand by it. Di Santo moves intelligently and also is always busy in the zone. While Anelka can finish the chances created by others for him Franco can create chances by his movement and runs. For the second goal, it was a nice piece of skill and a superb assist by the Argentine. Kalou must be warned. I also read that Franco is set on a loan deal with Blackburn Rovers. On one side, I don’t want us to loan him because I want to see him play more often for Chelsea and for some reason I see that happening in this season. On the other side, I might be reluctantly okay for a half-season loan because we all would see more of Di Santo and he can come back with rich experience when Drogba is away on national duty.
In the last couple of days, so much have been written about John Terry in the press – from how he is still Mr.Chelsea to how he had to be persuaded by Roman Abramovich. JT has spoken to Chelsea TV after issuing his PR-advised statement. Read his short interview on the Man City offer and on the pre-season and preparations. Do read it as he elaborates further into what he had said in the statement. As far as I’m concerned, I’m standing by my pragmatic view.
Short post today. That’s it for now. Cheers!

i heard that pizza wants to stay!!
lets get another Russian, Roman Pavlychenko…. he is young and good..
BC, any thoughts on our supposed “marquee signing”? I’m not even seeing any rumours associating Chelsea with ANY names, “marquee” or otherwise. BTW, have you received your new away jersey yet. Got mine Saturday, and I’m extremely happy. Cool colours, a lightweight fabric, and a cool texture…

Anyone get to catch the Chelsea – Club America game? It was basically a near full Chelsea 2nd string w/ Essien and Malouda (and either Alex or Carvalho) as the only regular top XI starters playing.
DiSanto got to play a full 2nd half (as opposed to the standard 88th minute subbing he normal gets) and it worked out well for him. Both Malouda and him teamed up for 1 goal and 1 assist a piece.
I’m really glad DiSanto got a pre-season goal. His goal was a classic ‘hungry striker’ goal. Hutchison and Mancienne looked good as well and I love the way Sinclair attacks. He will moved through 2 or even 3 players sometimes. He doesn’t usually succeed mind you but his confidence is very impressive. Sheva has no-speed and had his traditional Chelsea ‘moments of near brilliance’ but never came through as usual and Deco filling Lamps role was a joke.
The score ended 2-0 to Chelsea but it should have been more like 4-1. the post lost some paint on both sides.
And one final note:
Say what you want about American Football but that new Dallas Cowboy stadium should be on the man made wonders of the world list. F’ing amazing!
America should host the World Cup every 8 years just to have the final played in that stadium alone.
Matias De Federico
why don’t we look at this talent?!
are we always blind to the youngsters that will no doubt turn into something special?
Di Santo is definitely a start. But this guy?! AMAZING!
BC …from what i understand from your pragmatic view on this John Terry situation, is that you feel he will be with chelsea for the 2009-10 season, but dont know whether his future lies with the club.
Now i find it really strange that fans, which obviously includes you are doubting his future at chelsea, after all this man has done for the club. Now i dont know whether u have managed to read what john terry had said after posting a letter on chelseac.com, but he has come out and said quite a lot .. specially on roman and his relationship with him and the meetings he had held with him
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/2009/07/28/john-terry-reveals-all-about-roman-abramovich-s-role-behind-the-scenes-at-chelsea-115875-21552491/
i just dont understand why any1 would doubt his future at chelsea, i knew from the very begginning he was never going to leave chelsea, we all know he is totally committed, we all know he truly loves chelsea .. so why doubt hims future?
i know many fans had been fustrated by the fact that he took a long time to comment on all this..but he clearly states that all he wanted to do before he commented on mancity was to have meetings witht he owner to kwow the exact plans for the future, to know which players were staying which were not .. as the captain of the team i find it quite normal. i dont think he was using this situation to get a better deal or something (as many fans have said and criticized him) , i just dont see him as tht kind of person, on the contrary it was lampard last year tht managed to get an improved contract when inter milan began to show interest, fans hardly criticized him …and before terry has even signed a new contract (which i believe the club should have offered to him irrespective of the fact that mancity were showing interest, as a sing of loyalty from the club towards our fantastic captain, making him one of the higest paid players in the club, which he deserves) people already have come out criticizing him ..i wonder why??
i dont think there was ever a need to convince terry to stay at chelsea .. and i think some of us are being to harsh on him
its a shame tht people still doubt his future at chelsea
Terry is our living legend, and he will be our manager in near future…he will die a Trueblue, he will die wearing a Chelsea shirt!

Hi ChelsiFan! I did read that interview and I have also provided that information and link and also insisted that you read it. It’s all in belief. You believe when he says he never considered leaving Chelsea. Some of us don’t believe so. For someone who never considered leaving Chelsea, the meetings with the owner and board is very very untimely given the fact he has another three years left in his contract. I thought Terry would be on par with someone like Maldini. Paolo Maldini must have seen hundreds of Milan players joining and leaving. Anyone’s staying or leaving has never impacted his commitment to Milan. That’s what I expected from Terry. No matter what happens to Lampard, Drogba and Ashley Cole – Terry must stay and their contract situation should not matter to Terry’s stay. I thought Terry’s commitment to Chelsea is unconditional and now I realise it is conditional.
Conditional commitment is not bad. In the current state of football, that’s just great. And I’m not against player transfers. Even if Terry moves to Man City, I won’t hold any grudge against him. Player transfers happen all the time. All I said was that I had a different impression on Terry’s commitment and I now realised that may not be the truth. Still, the respect I have for him has not changed. The admiration I have for him remains the same. They have not gone down. But if he had handled this better, my respect and admiration for him would have gone up.
It is not the same as the Lampard situation last season. I thought Lampard was far more honest and transparent. He made it clear that he wanted to leave and he then signed a better deal. He said openly that he wants to join TSO. In his case, though we had to wait for the outcome, we were always updated of the progress.
By the way, if I were Roman, I would NOT consider increasing his current wages no matter who comes in and offers how much.

My friend keeps going on about Drogba is sold to Man City for 54m!!
I nwould say that Carlo would acceptthat offer.
Matias De Federico is a Mid and similar to xavi but with messi dribling ability. We can make a our next Lampard.
We have to find a player to replace Lampard in the future.I dont know what will happen to chelsea without lampard.
Bluechampion,
I understand ur need to be objective. To set a magnifying glass to both sides of the coin in every issue that concerns Chelsea, but seriously, this is Terry. This is Chelsea. End of story.
We have our guy and we’ll keep him for a long time.
Brief comment on Carlo and the Diamond
Okay, with the team we’ve got, 41212 looks like something that shld work for us, against all of the premiership except may be Liverpool and Man U on a day Sir ferguson decides to let off on scotch. Since we dnt need to beat either of these 2 teams home or away to win the premiership, then I’ll say we can give it a go.
However, I hope Carlo will smell the coffee before it brews over if it starts to boil. I hope he wnt go comatose like a certain scolari. Let’s give it a pop but he should revert or change b4 the fans realise it’s not working. If he can do that then no problem. Anyway, I guess I’m just scared of change
Meanwhile, have u guys noticed how the press have been playing up our ‘possession football’ since the US tour.
They are at it again as if there was ever a period during this revolution that we did not dictate the pace. They are just dying for an Arsenal brand of play and they will not get it. They got into Scolari’s head so much, we had plenty possession no profit.
These journalists should take there love for beautiful football to la liga.
I hope we sign at least two players and sheva, ferrera and pizzaro are allowed to go and wesley sneijer is brought in……..
reports suggest Pirlo is signed for 8.6 mil E +Pizzaro and Mancienne on a year loan.
Following Chelsea from America has been difficult at times, so I drove 5 hours to Dallas to watch the finals against Club America. It was a great game although I was disappointed not to be able to see John Terry and Lampard, et al. Regardless, we won and I agree that the new Cowboys Stadium is amazing – the jumbo screen is gigantic!
@ 15,
No way. That was Ancellotti fooling around at a press conference
reports suggest Pirlo is signed for 8.6 mil E +Pizzaro and Mancienne on a year loan.
that wouldnt be too bad to let the young player go on loan.. but why the frig are we not in for wesley sneijer !!!!!! i see no reason not to get him even if its at 18 mil.. he is good and young. we need more direct players!!! I wqant us to get sessgnon as well.
who is Anceloti buying,I hope he is given funds to sign of his own…So he does not end up like Scolari.
ya Agree with you Denver. I would love to see Sessagon but the thing is he will be gone again during African cup, so yes, Sneider or as much as I hate to say this, Van der vaart would be good.
the formation 4-4-2 :2009-2010.

sneijder is decent, but he don’t seem to want to leave either real or la liga. so he can stay were he is. we already have great squad. van der vaart is not good enough to boost our squad (starting 11) wit quality, thats for sure.
Di Santo is rumoured to go on loan to Blackburn, I’m not sure that’s a good idea. I would rather loan/sell Sheva and Pizza as I think Franco is ready for Chelsea first team on a very regular basis.
It is nice to see Hutch play more : ) and nice to see Di santo score
I was at the Club America game and as others have commented, the stadium is indeed off the charts. It totally fits everything Texans say about Texas – “Everything is Big in Texas”. There must have been 500+ 52″ LCD screens in that place, I kid you not, and that’s not counting the world’s largest HD screen hanging above the field. I found it quite funny during the practice on Saturday. JT and Lamps were trying to kick the ball as high as the could, with the intention of reaching the jumbo display. After a few attempts, a voice came over the loudspeaker saying “please don’t kick the ball into the screen”, in which JT sheepishly stopped and walked away.
It was quite strange watching the likes of Pizzaro and Sheva to be honest – as if it was pre-season two years ago. While it was disappointing not to see the likes of Lamps, JT, Drogba, or Anelka, it was nice seeing the young faces like Sinclair, Hutchinson, and Di Santo. DS received MotM if you didn’t know and clearly deserved it I thought. He played very well and as BC stated, I think Kalou needs to watch out. After the four games in the States, I was impressed by the level of play we have shown, especially for pre-season. With our favorable early season schedule, depth of squad, and Carlo’s diamond midfield, I really think were going to be in with a shout this year. Up the Chels I say!!

I don’t care if he moves to a big club but as long as he moves.
Gael kakuta needs everyone’s help to bloom and if he does at even 70% of his current capacity we have a world class foraward player for years to come. Am really upbeat for this season- mainly because i sense a quiet resolve by the boyz to prove that they are still the best team in the premiership. In my estimation, our team is set and needs no addition at all.

thats my assessment too….not too much in the market and the aura radiating from the team shows they are set for every match.i expect some departures before the end of August.
Guys Alonso is gonna go the Mardid….. why the Fukc arnt we after Wesly Snijder!!! can some one explain that to me.. instead we are being link the old ass Pirlo.. listen im not saying pirlo is not a class player… but he is too damn old.. we want youth.. players for the future…. like Wesly!!
chelsea always has a chance to win things.. we just get unlucky or some crap….like buying the wrong rass players…. we NEED pace and power, like Snijder!!
some people say.. VDV not good enough. Sniejder doesnt want to leave.. the fact is we need someone.. and we have a good couch.. so aslong as that player we buy wants to learn.. no problem…
Denver-
I think you are in love with sneijder almost as much as I am in love with pato!
:)
I don’t think we need or will get a “marquee” signing ! Who is there who would fit the bill ?
Only Ribery is on the market at an outrageous price !
Denver-

pato is a good player.. just dont think we are after him…. it seems we are doing the Drogba/anelka…..but we all kow goals will dry up when anelka leaves for ACN…. its just hard to know thata good player at a cheap enough rate.. and are not in for him…. we move a bit too slow
http://fourfourtwo.com/news/spain/34391/default.aspx
read guys… it hurts my heart!!… but i say come on Wesley come to chelsea
we need plaeyrs fast if we want to compeete agianst barca and real this year. pirlo is good but to old he would be another deco in chelsea. i would love to se gourgueff in bordoux or even sneijder at chelsea. in attack i want pato or david villa. i belive that this is possible signings if we can bring the money witch we can if we sell pleyers like pizza sheva balack ferreira etc. our team would be terrific.
sheva and belletti played really well wtever time they got on the field. I don’t understand people wanting to sell them ??
Now georcuff, I wnt mind. I an still see the dummy he sold Mikel during last champions League. Plus, if I remember well, he’s actually a Milan player on loan to Bordoux. I haven’t seen him enuff though. But based on that one math performance against us last season, I may be able to stake my chips on him.
gourcuff of bordeaux is the real deal. But he is no longer a milan player cause bordeaux gave him higher wages and he signed four year contract so I cant picture him at the bridge anytime soon. but he is really good and he got the future ahead of him.
If its true we are really trynna snatch pirlo its understandable. Our boss knows what he can deliver and I guess he wants to put his print on the team by having his general running the show.
Wesley Sneijder is good, I don’t think VDV would make our team. He is not that good. well he is good of course but not good enough to make the squad ahead of our mid fielders.
Am actually looking forward for the Serbian dude forgot his name, that is expected to sign wit us. since we already have a great team he can learn from the veterans and run the show in a few years.
beside a few players leaving I don’t see any big signing or decent for that matter.
now the big question is who are the players the club wants to offload?
kalou? he can go to arss to lead their attack if he wants. If we don’t sign pirlo I think deco will stay. and if he does I think he will be better then last year, it cant be hard top that season performance =)
@Denver, u sound like the world coming to an end if we don’t sign any new player but it wont.. we are already great.
denver anelka is french buddy he wont leave fr ACN
aint a big fan of le sulk need a new young striker but ancelotti likes em old
and yea pirlo another old man will be a blue this season
y r we dng this!?? :(

didnt say anelka was going to ACN… i mean he will lead the line while drogba is away.. and i dont trust him… the guys just goes missing.
Don´t worry about african cup of nations this time, we could still play 4-4-2 during that time with this set of players:
———————————————————cech/turnbull/hilario————————————-
–Ivanovic/Bosingwa/Mancinenne——–Carvalho/Alex————terry/Iva/Alex———–A. cole/Hutch
——————————————————————————————————————–
—————————————————Belleti/Ballack/Deco——————————————
—–Lampard/Joey/Stoch———————————————————-Zhirkov/Malouda/Sinclair
—————————————————–Joey/Lampard————————————————
——————————————————————————————————————–
—————————Anelka/Di Santo———————————Sturridge/Malouda——————-
So i think we can cover-up well even when our african heroes are away. But i still wish a young great play-maker like ribery/sneijder/…….. I think we can get ribery after his previous bust up with Beckenbauer. But is he willing to come here is completely another part of the story.
I hope Mr Ancelloti goes for a midfielder that has pace(Wesley Sniejder),cos the pemiership needs players with pace not andri pirlo cos we are trying to freshen oue team, not acquire more pensioners….I watch the dude during pre-season,he can’t even move his legs.Ancelloti should not sign another Deco………………

looks like pirlo will be coming….
Is this just because ancelotti wants one Italian (or someone he knows) in the squad??
whatever happens fuck it cause i like Andrea Pirlo but not at the price we will pay
PIRLO FOR £15M??? Have Chelsea really lost thier mind, why the hell wud you pay £15M for a 30 year old when the same amount can land you Sneijder, who is 25, has years ahead of him and is faster and more talented then Pirlo. No offense Pirlo WAS a great player but Sneijder IS a great player. This makes no sense to me what so ever, this will go down as another Deco type scenario and to top this up we are paying Pirlo £100 Grand a month I mean seriously WTF, was this suppose to be our “Marquee” signing, a 30 year old player from the past?? Somethings will never change about Chelsea, there is a ton of talent out there but we have to waste our money time after time on players that have nothing left in them and are a thing of the past. This is really annoying to be honest!!
Has everyone remembered that the reading game is today?!
I want zhirkov, sheva and pizarro to play
Reading 2 Chelsea 0 at half time lol, now this is interesting!!
2:0 WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
its 2-2 now.The game was finished…
A nice lesson for the team (we faced an english opppositon this time).
Yeah!!!. Chelsea never say die. Chelsea 2 Reading 2
I saw the second part of the second half, well am not to concerned. this is a good wake up call for the matchup againsts the reds!!!
Whats up wit the pirlo news? whats the latest???
Other than Jose Bosingwa & Malouda, I think it was nearly the team that might start . Suprisingly both didier and anelka could not find the net..
Next game is the community shield. we should have played some more english opposition to get into groove.
Tired of pirlo news .. AC Milan want 20 million for him..
If it’s 20 mln and if i was abra or carlo, i would say f*** o** to Galliani or Berlusconi. We’re not some Man City.
if we r looking for buyers for pizza and sheva . at least we should show them a litle bid don’t u think ?
The parliamentary election that gets under way on Monday and Tuesday is the first step on the ruling army council’s timetable toward a transfer to civilian rule, now promised for July.
Some Egyptians yearn for stability after a week of bloodshed that has killed 42 people and wounded over 2,000, preferring for now to let the generals run a nation whose prolonged political turmoil has thrust the economy deeper into crisis.
But the demonstrators want the council to make way for a civilian interim administration immediately. They reject its choice of 78-year-old Kamal Ganzouri to form the next cabinet.
Activists had called for a mass rally in Tahrir to pile pressure on the generals, and by mid-afternoon there were thousands in the square, hub of the unrest that toppled Mubarak.
Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, head of the council, said the army would ensure security at the polling booths.
“We are at a crossroads. There are only two routes, the success of elections leading Egypt toward safety or facing dangerous hurdles that we in the armed forces, as part of the Egyptian people, will not allow,” he declared.
Abdel Moneim Aboul Futuh, an Islamist presidential candidate who opposes military rule, said: “The nation is larger than Field Marshal Tantawi and Lieutenant General Sami Enan and the military council. A government with revolutionary leadership must be formed to meet the demands of Tahrir Square.”
State television quoted Tantawi as saying the army’s role in the new constitution would be unchanged: to protect the nation.
The outgoing cabinet angered many Egyptians by floating proposals that would have given the army sweeping national security powers and protected it from civilian scrutiny.
The generals have received tacit support from Islamist parties eager that nothing should disrupt voting in the first of three rounds of an election in which they expect to do well.
