Sunderland vs Chelsea | 24-May-09 @ 16:00 UK

I’m back Chelsitos! I’m back just in time for the last premier league game of this season. While this is a very key match for Sunderland, one might think that this game is of no consequence for Chelsea. That’s not entirely right. Chelsea are still in with an outside chance to finish runner-up in the premier league. I can say it is still mathematically possible and not very improbable. All that we need is Tottenham to beat Liverpool and Chelsea to beat Sunderland by 5 goals or something. Both these results have happened before but we just need them to happen on Sunday.
Sunderland are still not out of danger. If they are beaten at the Stadium of Lights, they would stay up only if few other results go in their favour. We have some interesting relegation battles on Sunday – Sunderland vs Chelsea, Aston Villa vs Newcastle, Hull City vs Man Utd and West Ham vs Middlesbrough. Expect Sunderland to go for a draw. A draw must keep them up unless incredibly both Newcastle and Hull City win their tough matches against all odds. Man Utd may not have a great motivation to win their match but they might want to sign off with a win. Aston Villa needs to win to confirm their fifth place in the table. So, a draw must be okay for Sunderland.
Under these circumstances, Chelsea need to beat Sunderland by about half a dozen goals and expect Spurs to beat Liverpool. Spurs must be looking to beat Liverpool to get a respectable 7th place in the table. But what I believe is, if Chelsea manage to break Sunderland’s defence and take a lead, the score could end up anywhere. For Sunderland, 0-5 is the same as 0-2. Chelsea need not have to rest any players. If anything, they need to play the first team so that they are all fit and ready for the FA Cup final next weekend.
I think Chelsea would get a big win on Sunday. Anelka must score and must get the golden boot. I’d like to see the whole team rally around Anelka to faciliate him get the golden boot. We saw that in the last match too when Drogba laid off one for Anelka while he could have blasted it himself. I want to see more of that on Sunday to see Anelka win it. Just before the second leg against Barcelona, probably I was the only one to predict a 2-0 win for Chelsea. It turned out to be a 1-1 but if you had seen the match, we were right on the money for a 2-0 win. Now, for this match, I predict a big 4-0 win for Chelsea.
The good thing about Chelsea now is, the smiles are back. As we get closer to the end of a difficult season, even after several heartbreaks and disappointments, the smiles are back. You see smiles, happy faces, celebrations everywhere. I would expect Chelsea to play with complete freedom, flair and celebration. It should be a very good match.
Meanwhile, Frank Lampard has been voted by the fans as the Chelsea player of the season 08-09. He also becomes the first player to win it thrice. He fully deserved the award. I don’t think there was any competition as he was miles above the second best. Apparently, I voted for him. Michael Mancienne has won the young Chelsea player of the season award. Bit strange. He has not played too many matches to win this award. Capello picked him. That shot up his popularity. In the few matches he played in the Chelsea first team, he did rather well. But I didn’t see him as the young Chelsea player of the season as such. In my view, John Obi Mikel could have won it again, though he was in the running for the senior award too. Also, Essien’s goal against Barcelona at Stamford Bridge was voted the Chelsea goal of the season. It was a great goal but I would not have complained if it was won by Alex’s free kick against Liverpool or Lampard’s delicious chip against Hull.
While I was away, Chelsea sported the new home kit. I’m still not sure if I like that or not. It certainly does not look like the conventional football jersey. I guess the players would look like robots with this revolutionary design. I like the adidas’ three stripes on the sleeves and the fact that it has a disconnect from the three stripes in the shoulder. Actually, this design, this new home jersey reminds me of an armour. The kind of armour that was worn in the medieval days. Adidas probably had that in mind while designing this, perhaps. I probably need to see it more often to like it more. I’ll buy it anyway because it’s a Chelsea jersey!
hey bc
nice to see ur back online :) ive been missing ur blogs
i think we’ll easily account for sunderland on sunday but im not so confident that we will get second place. We’ll have to play like we did in the first game of the season against portsmouth were we really gelled as a team. Lets see what happens though.
Awesome to see that CHELSEA! and co. contacted u, thats awesome!
keep up the good work
peace
gradulations to frank and ashley for their awards. and thank u for another great committed season. we all love you.
COME ON CHELSEA!!
congrats BC! so we could be the first official fansite and representatives for chelsea! well done to all of us!
grt post BC ……………………
we will win the game and claim 2nd place
chelsea for LIFE
and congrats on the calls!!!!
I look forward to finding out why the Guardian, Adidas, Setanta and Chelsea are all interested in this blog!
Just to say, BC, that Mancienne fully deserves Chelsea’s Young Player of the Season award. He may not have played many games for us this term, but he had a very successful half season with Wolves, who obviously won the Championship this year, and deserved a full England call up. It looks very much like he will be the first homegrown player that will really break through into the first team in the Abramovich era; Robert Huth won the Young Player award three years in a row but the fact that he’s not even first choice for the Middlesbrough back four shows the average quality of youth we had at that time.
Mikel won the award a few years ago, and is too much of a staple in the first team to be considered a ‘young player’ now. He may be only a year older than Mancienne at 22, which makes his quality even more astonishing, but, as you said, he did have a shout in the main Player of the Year award. He has been very solid all season, but Mancienne’s achievements are definitely worthy of recognition in my eyes. I’m very excited about seeing more of him in the first team next year, hopefully where he belongs alongside JT.
who got what in the awards ????
congrats BC now that I got a good look at the new jerouseys I think they r not so bad (i thout they looked prity bad)
looking forward to new transfers and season
BC whats ur ID for PS3 for fifa?
BC – Welcome back! I predicted that you will turn up at most, on the eve of FA CUP but here you are. Nice Post.
For this Sunday match, I’ll be supporting Anelka and Anelka ONLY. Everything else is secondary. Meaning I will take 3-3 with Anelka scoring hattrick than Chelsea winning 5-0 without Anelka’s goals in it. But of course, Chelsea winning 5-0 with a hattrick from Anelka will be an early Christmas for me :D .
In regards to the jersey, looking at it plainly really doesnot show much. But when you watch them in action like the previous match, you will like it. I did. It makes all our players looks like Superheroes rather than Star-Trekey. Especially Frank, he looks like Super Frank for the whole 90 minutes. BC, hope you can get some nice pics from our previous match to give some justice to the NEW KIT.
KTBFFH!!!
Hey there BC, Welcome back ! Activity here had stagnated while you werent here (Im guessing the comments limited to 155 only then lol ) just shows though how good your blog is and how many people visit ! Congrats on the Chelsea, Adidas and the likes link ups, would love to hear what thats about in the future. Heres hoping for a good fun game this Sunday !
KTBFFH !!
who will be our next manager?
who will be our next manager?
I’m betting big on CA – could be worse that’s for sure. It will be tough for him becuase the first loss we have the fans are gonna turn on him for not being Guus. I just hope he brings Pato with him. We could use a striker that can play on the wing as well.
Replying to GamingTheSystem: thats was the same thing I said to a friend.. pato would be the only milan player i would take…… God why cant we work out something to keep guus or get him later in the year.
back from ACL reconstruction surgery guys….doing fine
Congrats BC on getting the calls.
Hope the club ties up with you.
watch livepools 12th man its so funny :P

Replying to Mike Ayad: damn their jersey looks better than ours
Welcome back BC. Its good to hear that you have been contacted by Chelsea and others, thats great. Keep up the awesome work. I am happy that this great blog dedicated to CFC has finally been acknowledged.
Come Chelsea! I hope you’s hammer Sunderland tomorrow.
The new shirt looks ok I like the current one, has the new one got shoulder pads?
Michael
Newcastle Fan
Fabian Assmann interest confirmed.. would have prefered Ustari though… but he seems good
i thought the kit was quite the step down until i saw the blackburn game where it looked pretty good worn. Besides it’s probably got some kid of new adidas technology or something
the new kit is a killer. getting one for sure! haha interests in fabian ass-man :D
C’mon Chelsea!!
We can get hiddink in november if russia dont qualify for the world cup.
So we could risk having ray wilkins for a few months as manager.
Russia are second in their group and are so close to qualifying – hiddink will probably go to the world cup.
The table for the qualifiers :

Congrats bc….
The kit looks better worn…i thought it would be worser than this years but its not..i am a fan of this kind of kits which fits on the players body(spurs, italy, roma usually have those kind of kits )

i will support guus hiddink and russia 4 the world cup he deserves our support
BC what do u make of this?
“For two years at Chelsea we lived as a group of friends, dining together, getting drunk together, going to training together and winning matches together,” Makelele writes in his autobiography Tout Simplement.
“Between 2004 and 2006 the solidarity in the Chelsea camp was amazing. Mourinho then broke all that when he banned key elements and treated certain players as ‘stars’.
“Very early on in the 2006/07 season, Mourinho took a step back from his players. In that one day, the brotherhood spirit that had gathered us around him was harmed.
“Then he had a bust-up with (Roman) Abramovich. The chairman asked the players to express themselves more freely on the pitch, but Mourinho stubbornly refused to change his methods.
Stunned
“A relationship at the top of the club was broken and the players began to feel it.
“During that third complete season under his control, I was stunned to see how Mourinho forget the value of his players and claimed all the credit for the results.
“To him, individuals didn’t make the team work well, his methods did. At the end we felt that he was in danger as soon as a player was under the spotlight more than him.”
Makelele, who has recently signalled his intention to stay on for another season at PSG, has also revealed that he endured a frosty relationship with outgoing coach Paul Le Guen during his first season in the French capital.
“I believe that my arrival disturbed Paul Le Guen,” he said.
“It is a shame because when I came I told him: ‘I know you don’t want me at the club, but I am not here on holiday and you will see that on the pitch’.
“My decision to stay at PSG is not directly linked to his future. His departure was not the guarantee I needed to stay.
“I hope the new coach will work with me on a short and long-term basis, but next season will be even more difficult than this.
“We have to clean the dirt that remains among the players, the technical staff and the club officials.
“I mean the people who don’t want the club to go forward. There are vermin at every level. In order to become competitive, we have to do some cleaning.”
guys Carlo said he is not comin to chelsea…. who then will take over?? we all forgot about Roberto Mancinne….. he is good, Im soo confused about u will take us over now. guus wont stay.. carlo wont come… then who.. BC start a poll, not that it will help. guess I want the guys to talk about it
what about Van Basten for us if not Guus i think he would be a better fit than carlo.
here is the list of who I would like
Guus
Roberto Mancinne
Rijkaard
Van Basten
Carlo
Dick Advovaat
AZ- coach
Jurgen klinsman
Ray wilkins (interim- till guss come from russian)……… anyone else
all i know is who ever it is will have to have CL experience and be able to adapt to the EPL very fast like Guus did, if we had him from the start we would have won EPL and a whole lot more!!
guys are we still interested in Rakitic!!! he is still good!!
Im no fan of roberto mancini
I did not for a minute believe ancelotti was comin to london
I still say rijkaard is the one to come in
Im not a fan of the new kit, it looks better worn, but is still odd, the russia kit looks fine though funnily enough
Mikel was a key player this season, I think his dwindling performances caused the award to go to mancienne
I’ve never been aware of any legitimate interest in rakitic
I am worried about the whole drogba, bosingwa, ovrebo incident, uefa are taking far too long…..
tomorrow is bound to be a big win
anelka will be pushed to get the golden boot
lampard will want a few more goals
I see no reason for us to score less than three goals tomorrow
The team will be looking to win by a huge tally as if to pile all the pressure on liverpool
on top of that, the season needs to end on a high so everton know that we aren’t playing games come the fa cup final
Guys, drop by on soccerlens.com , we need more Chelsea supporters there.
Nice article BC. Good to see you have got contacted becuase you deserve it. Not really sure whats going on in terms of our next manager. Personally I think it will be Ancelotti because everybody is talking about him and we seem to have an ongoing obsession with the Champions League. Somebody should remind our incompetant board that Ancelotti has only won 3 trophies in 8 years at Milan and considering the players hes had at his disposal (Pirlo, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Pato, Beckham, Nesta. The list goes on and on.) I arent exactly ecstatic with the idea of having him as manager. The new kit looks OK but I think this seasons was better. KTBFFH
his players are all Has beens. I would like Cappelo even over him.
I was just listening to skysports
now Beckham is being linked to chelsea
that is completely laughable and i would bet my home that it would never happen
key points to take into consideration when thinking of ancellotti
he lead milan to 2 champions league tophies
he has lead milan to 2 serie a trophies, 1 of which was won only because of juventus’s relegation as a result of that scandal with match fixing
1 of those champions league trophies was won at a point where the premiership was not a truly revered force, primera division was considered better at this point
the milan team is aged, rightly said by xerxesk “has beens”
even now, like denver, the only player from milan i’d want would be Alexander Pato.
Ronaldinho is my favourite player in the world, but even I don’t want him at Chelsea anymore
the itallian national team practically is ac milan and look how they perform!
on top of being unproven, ancellotti does not speak english
I don’t actually rate capello so wouldn’t want him either
and especially when considering coaches, ancellotti is not renowned for making changes and is not a relished name
the manager we appoint needs to be revered, needs to have made an impact instantly in his work
ideally, our manager should have experience in italy and spain if not england
Ancellotti is linked because we made an approach for him last summer
I don’t think we will make another one
I was actually expecting AC milan to sack him at the end of this season because he has done jack all and didn’t even qualify for the champions league 08-09
for a team of their worth, that is not acceptable, scolari was sacked for that reason exactly
Elsewhere in football
all we need is steve clark
Congrats BC, this is the premier Chelsea blog outta Asia and with a great and vocal following and better by miles than lots of other sites emanating from this region which is why we visit again and again !
KTBFFH !
Chelsea must find a manager after FA CUP FINAL as soon as possible.Chelsea need a big refreshment at squad,it must start by the next week.Chelsea must learn from last year mistakes by take a long time to bring the New Coach(what a stupid coach).Roman must support the new coach by money.
How about David Moyes as Chelsea manager ?
1. He speaks English
2. knows the Premiership inisde out
3. , couldn’t be worse than LFS
4. it would be stealing a march on ManUre too as they might want him after SAF goes,
5. has done wonders at Everton with a limited budget and relatively unknown players,
6. is till young and hungry , could bring Tim Cahill over too
7. has a steely stare and steadying and commanding aura !
8. Would endear Chelsea to the masses cos he’s English, someone many can relate too
Maybe it’s time for an English manager at Chelsea, all the Europeans except Hiddink seem uncool. Hey how about Gullit coming back ? He seems to be level headed and still a Chelsea fan.
Hey Guys, looking forward to todays game. Guus has confirmed he’ll field a relatively strong side against Sunderland to maintain match fitness. Im guessing he’ll field this team:
———————Cech———————-
-Ivanovic—–J.Terry—Alex——–A.Cole-
————–Belletti——Mikel—————
———————Essien——————–
——–Lampard————-Malouda——–
———————Anelka——————–
I’d personally like it if he gave Di Santo, Mancienne and Stoch a chance to play, but he’s a man who’ll take the challenge (atleast its mathematically possible) of getting us second so we’ll play an attacking game I feel. 5-0 to Chelsea.
KTBFFH!!
just this once to give di santo/stoch a chance from start would be soo good
Replying to JoseHoliday:
He is the best in england right now.

Congrats Blue Champion. Just shows you should do whatever your hands find too as if it’s the most important thing.
I like the new kit. It’s different and futuristic. What’s wrong with star trekky? It gives the impession these are warriors on the prowl, if ever there was a team of warriors then…
I’m glad the Ancellotti rumour has cooled. Thank Gawd. I wouldn’t want the guy near my under 11s. I second the Moyes thing, he’s the most talented manager in the premiership right now, the results speak for him.
David moyes can not handle a team like chelsea, trust me guys. His good games a Everton wont promise a good result at chelsea too.
great goal by the french blur…=)
Golden boot for anelka, brilliant goal
ashley cole just scored, this must be a sign
2-3 Final Result in favour of Chelsea, Cole scoring and Anelka getting the golden boot is all great news, but man we conceded 2 goals, which puts us on the level with UTD (24 goals conceded) thats sucks big time because I wanted Chelsea to boast the best defensive record in PL but oh well. Lamps missing from the line up really does make a day and night difference for Chelsea, we were in some way lathargic and could not build up our attacks quickly and their were no beautifully threaded throughball (Super Frank Specialities). In all fairness we won the match, end the season on 83 points (2 points less than last season & in 3 place) but given the results we picked up under great LFS im more than happy to see Chelsea finishing the season strongly under Magic Man Hiddink. Last game of the season remaining and perhaps the most important one aswell, we need to finish the season on a high, resting Lamps was a good move. Anelka is on fire atm and his and Drogba’s partnership combined with Lamps deadly vision and a rejuvinated Malouda will hopefully mean us lifting the FA cup trophy come this saturday. Chelsea FOR Life!!!
P.S: FOR GOD SAKE NO ANCELOTTI – The guy will destroy Chelsea faster than LFS!!!
congrats anelka. and ashely really deserved that goal after a great season for him. next year im predicting trophy for chelsea in every competition.
C’mon Chelsea!!
What a superb goal to grab the golden boot. I wish Anelka played all season long like he did last couple of months. He was determined to win the golden boot that is why he tried so hard and scored goals. If he wants, he can score. The problem is that he doesn’t care much about that sometimes. To be honest, his goals were not good enough to win it. Some could say he doesn’t deserve it. The quality of the goals were poor in fact. I can only remember the ones against Arsenal and today’s goal.
First off congrats BC, I knew it was only a matter of time until you got your site some serious notice.
Nice job finishing the year with a win, I’m happy Anelka got the golden boot, and what a way to seal it! I’m only disappointed that the season is over, but we’ve still got the FA Cup final to look forward to. It’s gonna be a long offseason, and all we’ll really have are all the rumors. At least Chelsea are coming to Southern California to play against Inter in July. All you SoCal Chelsea fans better be there with me! I hope Chelsea don’t make too many big changes, we already have a core that is capable of winning the CL. Think about it, with a little luck, we may be going for our 2nd straight CL crown if not for a cruel twist of fate, and a corrupt referee.
No matter what happens I’m Chelsea till I Die!
Congrats to all of us blue fans. We finished well despite a catstrophic spell under felipe. i hope for ance that next season will see us having a smooth run. Three seasons ago, it was a plague of injuries, last season was Roman going crazy and sacking a talismanic manager and this year saw felipe (nice guy but not cut out for premiership) ruining us. Who takes over next year i the absebce of Guus and seeing that Jose is not coming back so soon. When u push me, i will go for Martin Oneil and lure back steve clark to assist him (whose departure many dont seem to realise cased our disorientation this season. while clark was with felipe, we were steam rolling the opposition but soon as he left….
These players should leave the club.
Ballack,
Belleti
Kalou
Deco
Ferreira
Cavalho – (Ivanovic and Macienne can be a cover for Alex.) Calvaho could leave because Alex has become an integral part of the first team now. and the age wise too.
Riccy not going anywhere. he is class and chelsea must keep all her classy players. Belleti is such an asset coming from the bench- what nore can we ask for. We hounded out Pizzaro and see what a great job he went doing for werder.
I have a question: Why were we wearing our 0809 Chelsea strip today when the new one has been released and was worn last week against Blackburn?
