I didn’t see Barca battering Chelsea. I didn’t see them smash Londoners out of the park. I didn’t see them humiliate the Blues. Well, also I didn’t see them scoring at Nou Camp and I didn’t see a certain Lionel Messi on the pitch! We all must be laughing at all those journos who predicted a 4-0 and 5-0 wins. Get real guys! As I wrote in the preview post, you must be rather naive to expect a Chelsea team to be dominated like that. While the hype-loving journos were expecting to see an attacking masterclass from Barcelona, what we all saw was a defensive masterclass from Chelsea.
Five minutes into the match, I was thinking ‘Barca are not scoring tonight’. Half hour later, I realised this had a striking similarity to the last season’s semi finals against Man Utd at Nou Camp. The tactic from Chelsea was pretty simple. Allow Barca to play their game and intervene when it matters most. Don’t allow the final ball. And get physical as much as required. Break Barca’s rhythm. Chelsea just did a very fine job of achieving what they wanted to.
As you’d expect Barca had all the possession, they passed all night but they just didn’t threaten us. This is an unusual thing to say about any Barcelona attack. But this attack that comprised of Eto, Henry and Messi plus the midfield of Xavi, Iniesta and Toure just did not threaten Chelsea at all. If you look at the real chances, probably they had three and we had two. Actually, they were more threatening when Alves started to cross it in towards the end of the game than they were all game long.
Defensively, we were top class. Completely nullified Barca and had them run out of ideas. I was pretty impressed with Bosingwa’s work with Messi and Ivanovic’s marking of Henry. Terry was a bit suspect but was not too much to worry. Overall, we simply owned them with our defence. What was more heartening to see was Cech’s performance. He is certainly getting back to his usual best. He got most of the things right. In the first half, he went out of position for a improbable catch and popped out a ball that he must have comfortably caught. Other than that, he was spot on. The saves that he produced against Eto and Hleb were real class. Our midfield appeared a little lost because we weren’t keen to attack. When we are not planning to attack heavily, when you have Mikel in the team, the midfield of Ballack, Lampard and Essien would certainly struggle due to the lack of purpose and that’s exactly what happened.
But if had one gripe from this match that was the way we attacked whenever we had the ball. It was pretty much as per plan that we saw less of the ball but when we did have it, we were awful and careless going forward. I know most of them were busy in defence but in such cases you may not go for a counterattack but normal slow build-up attacks must have happened much better.
Barcelona have scored 100+ goals at an average of about 2.9 goals per match this season, which is a phenomenal record. Their goal tally and goal difference is the biggest in the whole of Europe. They have scored in every single match at Nou Camp this season. And against Chelsea, they scored none in front of their fans. Before someone jumps to ask ‘how on earth can you be proud about not conceding’, let me say ‘we got what we wanted’. We wanted to take home a draw. A goal draw would have better but goalless is fine as well. Though this result does not confirm anything at all, this certainly is a set back for Barcelona.
This weekend, Chelsea would play Fulham in the premier league. Hiddink can afford to rest key players this weekend ahead of the second leg next week. Meanwhile, Barcelona have their most important league match of this season – the el clasico. To play against Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu must be the last thing Guardiola wants between two Chelsea matches, especially after the first leg at Nou Camp ended at 0-0. This weekend’s result in the el clasico would have a huge impact on the second leg. If Real Madrid wins, that would completely unsettle Barca. And, they might then have to play a well-rested Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Plus, Puyol is now suspended and Marquez seems to be out for a few weeks. And Ashley Cole would be back. Messi was invisible tonight even when Barca were longing to score. When Ashley’s back, I’ll have no worries.
To summarise, at kick-off, Barca had an objective and Chelsea had one too. Chelsea achieved theirs and Barca did not. It’s as simple as that. If you want to understand this better, suppose Barca wanted a goalless draw and Chelsea wanted a goal. Chelsea would have still achieved their objective leaving Barca disappointed. 0-0 is never too comforting but there are so many other factors that make me more comfortable – Real Madrid’s possible win this weekend, key injuries/suspension in Barca and the general set back and understandable low morale of high fliers that are brought down to earth.
Peace Chelsitos! We are winning at the Bridge!

its not over but the result was good.
C’mon Chelsea!!!
After the game, Mourinho had this to say, “Barcelona has never beaten a chelsea team with 11 players!”
Very tense for a 0-0 game. I think this had a lot to do with the hype that the press put on Barca. All in all I am vey happy with the results. I would love to see a very differnt Chelsea next week. Malouda / Drogba / Anelka / Kalou bombing forward. Show Barca how we play on our home turf.
Here’s to an easy 2-0 win at home and a chance at payback against ManUre in the finalz.
WE BEAT THE FUCK OUT OF BARCA
Get your blue lion out mate!
We were awful in the first half. Second half I didn’t expect much after our first so it was what it was.
Barca was tougher then I expected them. or I am very disappointed that we didn’t even try to play. we couldn’t keep the ball between the team for more then 2 passes. every time we got it we gave it away. Drogba should have scored! Essien cant even make the simplest pass, lampsy well..he stunk up camp nou. Ballack was disappointing, he couldn’t provide shit other then chasing the lil white ghost aka Iniesta (the best player today). I really wanted a win or at least a 1-1 or 2-2 draw. Now we got 0-0 and that sucks.
we are really close now, lets win next week. Looking at the big picture like BC, am happy we showed we won´t get schooled around.
Cech – great game.
Malouda – he had tried and tried in the left flank. And he had kewl battle wit that shady Alves. He should have got a yellow and suspended for the second leg. Hope the home fans let him feel the heat on Wednesday.
Our yellow double Decker bus was great=) let’s put it this way, we all knows how barca and it fans was feeling all night long lol. It have happened to us a few times.
Wow! Chelsea carried out Hiddinks plan right to the letter. Congesting the centre of midfield worked wonders, where Xavi and Iniesta usually work their magic with the final ball. They were forced to play out wide all the time and we always had men teaming against their wide men. Just in case there are some crying fans who didn’t like the way we played, THIS IS CHELSEA.
Who is messi?
A very good bad result.in their real test they have failed..Barca were like SCOLARI s Chelsea last night.but we should have kept the ball more ..i dont want to look at the stat table..of all their possession the best chance of the match came to didier ..he should have put that one away..i think terry had a good game..Essien was poor..expected muchmore from him..i was sacred to lamps subbeen.marquez is out for rest of the season.

Well. I dont consider this a good result. I dont consider this bad either. No way it can be bad, but it would have been good if we had scored the precious away goal. But I fully trust Guus, if he makes us play like this, then there should definitely be a plan in his mind.
The positive things to look into this game
1. We proved that Bosingwa is alone enough to contain Messi. We have A.Cole next game, so its advantage plus.
2. Bosingwa will go to his usual right flank and hope Anelka starts at RM. We can easily exploit Abidal here. Today i feel we wasted to exploit this space by playing essien who is clueless in this position.
3. No Puyol and Marquez, though i doubt if Puyol getting suspended is a blessing in disguise for Barca :P
3. The EL CLASICO. What more can we expect if Barca is made to play a resurgent RM this weekend ? I am gonna sit infront of TV and cheer for Madrid. HALA Madrid! Vamos los Blancos.
The negative things:
1. We did not close the encounter in this game itself. We pretty much left the tie open. If Barca score at Bridge, then its going to put huge pressure on us.
2. Time and again we tried to attack, Barca came very hard on us. So we were restricted to defend all 90 mins. If the situation is not going to change at SB, then i feel that this tie is going to be entirely decided on the mistakes one makes in defense. LUCK and DISCIPLINE factors will play a major role. Remember last year, it was a good albeit lucky strike from Paul Scholes that settled the tie for Manu. It can easily come from either side, be it Xavi or Lampard and it is going to settle the fixture.
PS: What a result it would have been if DD nicked that one!!! Sheessh!!!!
Not bad the 0-0 result and however humble Hiddink may be by saying nothing is decided yet and neither side has advantage, like allt he guys said above :
1. Barca has a titanic clash with Real M that will certainly have recpercussions on the game with us thru injuries, fatigue and league points may possibly be lost
2. Their centre backline decimated thru injury and suspension
3. The smaller pitch at SB (which might get a watering down to slow ‘em down) that means futher restricting Barca’sHarlem Globe trotter-like game.
4. A confident Peter Cech
5. Ashley Cole back and no-one injured so , there will be many options in attack and a much fresher team, so important that is if it goes to Xtra time
6. Playing in front of your own fans, the bost that will give players is enormous and the noise making Victor Valdes even more susceptible to blunders
7. And the knowing that half the tie is over , will settle nerves for Chelsea players
8. Knowing that Barca will just play as they always play, pass, pass and pass and Messi and co: can be muffled when need be and we can attack when we want
So with the above facts as Guus as said we may not have an “advantage” but we sure have a helluva chance to get to the Finals if tactics and performances are spot on.
Nothing is over but Lotsa things are afoot.
I think this all plays into plan. While we face Fulham in a Premiership game that no longer matters (we’re not in contention anymore…), Barca faces defense of their La Liga title against Real Madrid who I believe are only four points apart. The short time period means that they’ll have to go all out in a few days again at be Bernabeu, only to face Chelsea away at the Bridge four days later. Who knows, maybe someone else will be added to their injury list?
A tie is probably the most realistic “good” scenario we could have picked. Barca don’t do nearly as well when they’re away, and with all these things piling up within the week, I think our chance at home looks really, really good.
It’s only the La Liga sides that go head to head against barca at Camp Nou. Spanish sides feel they hafta t go out and play beautiful football even if barca’s gonna beat them thru and thru. I guess its a pride thing, ” we’re as technically proficient as Barca ” and once in a while they prevail , but certainly not always , its like they have given the game / points to Barca even before playing.
I know lots people are ranting : Chelsea is defensive , killing the game, anti-football, but was ManUre all out attacking and artsy against the BarKs ( my new pet name for Barca ) last year in their first leg tie at Camp Nou ? No sir , A dour boring 0-0 it was too. Old Red nose SAF was too clever for them too.and ManUre finished them off at OT.
Also in Europe refs are more likey to gove fouls in situations that would be ignored in England, so everyone is defensive and wary when playing at Nou Camp. Its like u play to ur strengths not into the the hands of the oppposition.
And with opposition like the BarKs who have their own bag of tricks to fool the ref and acting like having being shot and falling down in pretend injury everytime the u get the ball in their half, u gotta be extra vigilant. An BarKs back line are not angles either, notice Puyol charging at and wantonly trying to cause bodily harm to the opponent ?
The BarKs are shit !
and when they could just barK instead of bit like last night they say ” We were the only side to play football ” ” Mommy they kicked us ” ” He pushed me down’ etc. Anyway is it Chelsea’s fault that they chose players who are short and fast and can be “outmuscled” ? Go buy some bar-bells and ur whole team can take the shots that Messi had to take to get some muscle , u twats !
So do they always play like gentlemen and are always innocent angels ? Is the La liga bereft of cunning and guile ?
I say go and shoot yourselves, stiff ur own shit down ur gullets and be ready to be out-muscled come next week.
And another shot : Yes The la liga is certainly second best to the premiership cos altho the Barks maybe “a great team and world-class” the rest including Real are shite ! major shite ! and their not getting past the group stages attests to that ! U Barka shit !
I’ve read here and on another couple of Chelsea blogs that this is a fantastic result. ITS NOT. Next weeks game Chelsea will have to be more attacking in order to win, which is what we need to do now. That means we can’t throw 10 men behind the ball like we did last night in an awful display. The rest of Europe probably thinks we are incredibly boring. As a result Barca WILL score at Stamford Bridge next Wednesday. Barca will qualify win or draw and that includes a 0-0 draw with our penatly record!! We have an uphill struggle, i’m just annoyed I have to wait a week to find out!!
Uffff. Time of the time we got lots of luck, but at least once Barca got this once as well – pity Drogs didnt score, it would have been much better for us. A 0-0 draw is tricky. I am really scared of Barca scoring at SB; they will probably have more opportunities, given that Chelsea should attack at home. We simply cannot start attacking with all guns. The second leg will be a highly tactical encounter, as well as the first one. Hope that luck, Cech and referee will stay with us.
Maybe this is a bit discouraging post, but I was really worried time of the time throughout the match. Chelsea did perfectly what they were said by Hiddink. Messi – non-existent. Xavi, Iniesta – shooting from long distance with no chance to score. Etoo, Henry – pacified. But had not been Cech at his absolute best, had not referee left the play go after Bosingwa took Henry´s shirt in the box… Too much luck. Hope it will stay with us and we will convert some chances at SB.
If Barcelona wins this weekend against Real Madrid, it may be a confidence boost. If they lose, it may be an opportunity for Barcelona to prove something in the 2nd leg to win. If they draw, … meh!
They do, however have the La Liga title to fight for, so I think there’s pressure for Barca to work hard for a win. It will be interesting to see if they will put on a full first team against Real Madrid.
I think what Guus will look forward to is a (hopefully) tired and battered Barcelona. We, on the other hand have to still keep it up and not slack off.
Anyway, the pitch comparatively between Stamford Bridge and Camp Nou is different isn’t it? On Wikipedia, it says Camp Nou is 105m x 68m, and Stamford Bridge is 100m x 69m.
joseholiday pretty much got it with the points raised but just to say barca were the better team against man utd, scholes goal came from a puyol mistake
barca are going to have to go all out this weekend which gives hiddink another chance to study them
drogba needs wing options, too often when he brough the ball down, malouda was the only person in shouting distance
i think hiddink knew he could hold barca, the headache for him is how to get us attacking as well as we defend
last night we saw the world’s best attacking force against the world’s best defence, the question is, can we now control the game in the midfield as well, if we can get on the attack instead of trying to lob and outrun barca, we should be fine
that being said, the only change id make next time is ballack for anelka, we cant afford to put ballack in a position to get another yellow
we can play the same formation, even with belletti and essien holding, lampard realeased with anelka and malouda alongside drogba
im really expecting for drogba and lampard to come up with the goods next week, they wont be happy about the result today considering what drogba alone could have achieved, the stats are very misrepresentive, barca made alot of passes, as soon as we got the ball it was hoofed to drogba who had the best two chances in the game and really should have put them away
anyway, the difference is going to be hiddink
3-1 win at stamford bridge
Maybe Guus is planning to make Barcelona players and coach to think after the game next week….”What had hit them???” Because, now Barcelona will be guessing whether Chelsea will play ultra-defensive again or ultra-attacking… about the game, Guus made Chelsea played Ultra-defensive…and if he can do this…I believe he can also make Chelsea become an ultra-attacking team.
Replying to JoseHoliday:
kewl n funny post=)
the best thing of this first leg was that we were able to play completely differently than anybody had expected. We lost many balls while passing, but the way our central defenders shut the space was really amazing. I´ven´t seen us play such a great defending since quite a long time. Had we been able to score, it would have been great. But we didn´t have A.cole, and thus playing a RB Bosingwa on LB to shut down player like Messi, was never an easy task. Thats the reason we lost our flow in attacking. Hiddink simply didn´t want to concede at Nou Camp. And therefore Mikel played, and since we need Anelka for second leg to win, he was left out. What frightens me is that if he gets yellow card in SB, he won´t be available in final. He is our best winger, hehe (i still remember that liverpool game). I´m sure players will be rested for the next game. We need everyone fit to win. Barca pushed a lot, and see they have Puyol suspended for next game and marquez injured. so they are having a headache in defence, and they need to play away. It cant be better for chelsea. We need to score 2 goals, one in each half, and shut down the defence. and Barca will have no chance.
hail Guus, hail chelsea
ktbffh.
@kuhulai,
We acttually played a good game. Thing is if we had played an pen game against the ‘barks’, we would be considering something like a 3-0 or 3-1 loss. Seriously, it is almost impossible to win barca at their camp. However, having said this, I should mention that the midfield lost tthe ball too many times. Lampard disappeared, and that is the only creative channel we have. I think bosingwa had a good game and Mikel and Cech of course.
At the bridge, we should be set up the same way. The only winger we need for the match is the new vastly improved malouda. Bringing in Anelka or Kalou will mean playing 10 against 11. Especially anelka who will not track back or mark with any resolve. We just need Lampard to play. if he does not llet the game get to him and he just decides to enjoy himself, we”ll do fine. That was what went missing yesterday, an inspired lampard to properly use all those balls we were winning.
It’ll be fine and we’ll come out tops. You’ll see.
I need to mention also that we need to give the guus the credit. He constantly surprises everybody; the opponents, the fans and I’m sure even the players. you can only speculate what he wioll do next. He’s getting the best out of his players, not whinnying for wingers or an extra dribbler. That is what makes the man great.
The courage he exhibited yesterday in taking off Lampard defines the man he is.
who can replace our beloved guus
18 | olu
I am indeed sure that dropping off Lamps was a good move. We were not able to do anything special during first 60 minutes of play, when he was on the pitch, apart from Drogba chance which came from a dull mistake of a defender. Lamps tried hard as he could but he was not able to deliver nor to hold the ball for longer time. He always helps defence as well, but his main qualities lie somewhere else. So Guus did a pragmatic move – brought Belletti on, who is a defensive player par excellence, and opted for a 0-0 draw as the best possible result. I understand, agree and admire the courage he showed by substituting our talismanic midfielder in such an important match.
lamps needs rest he has played all season we have keep fresh for next wednesday
good point olu, kalou would track back but anelka offers more in attack, essien just seemed to lost, very reluctant to run at defenders
the formation could work, but we really need to be firing on all cylinders for it to work
lampard simply was not advancing enough I couldn’t tell if it was because he was trying to mark or too hesitant but we need to be pushing barca down the right side as well to offer the space in the middle for lampard to get foward
id be worried to play anelka for the exact thing that happened in our 2-1 win over arsenal, failure to close space
that being said, if there was a player id want to drop for the next fixture, it would be ballack but then again we need his experience
mikel was simply doing anything to throw his body over the ball
such a headache for me, I can’t figure out what to do as its so delicate
im sure hiddink will iron out the problems, we just need essien and lampard running foward
I love how people are ranting on about how Chelsea are boring, Chelsea promote anti-football, etc. I tell those people to go f*** themselves. We are doing what we need to do to win. I could care less how entertaining it is.. only a few weeks ago we gave the world one of the “greatest matches in CL history” with that 4-4 result against Liverpool, now we’re boring? HA!
All signs are pointing to Rome for us, we are so close to returning to the Final, a chance at redemption. Come on you Blues! Show the world who the best club in the world is!!
lets keep our feet on the ground . .only one worry for me . .when we pushed up barca cut us open with great ease . .and we gonna have to push up at sB SO??
Replying to olu:
I got your point.
I gotta say though, I was really pleased by the way anelka raced back wit great pace to help out in defense against liverfools at SB. but I understand if u didnt notice that cause it was a crazy game.
Offense win games but defense wins championships.
a few notes from yesterday…
• That wasn’t a penalty when Henry fell in a battle wit Jose!
• Their coach been crying a river and saying Ballack should have been sent of as well as a lot of other rubbish things….
• Shouldn’t the shady Dani Alves been booked when he tripped Malouda? Now we have to se his shady acts at SB.
• Yaya got booked cause he wanted the ref. to book as every single time there was a foul. FACT
Well they haven´t been tested all season long and now they are whining like sissy girls. Guardiola showing is rookie color.
tactically chelsea wer spot on at camp nuo, hiddinks, mastermind tactics, a 4-1-4-1 aainst 4-3-3. thier 3 front players against our back 4 plus mikel, thier midfield 3 against our midfield 4 plus mikel, so it worked perfect, no wonder hiddink opted for a ultra defenisve formation, if you try to play football at barca, wid thier scoring record for this season, it would be digging your own grave. defend and nick a goal wud hav been the message which worked almost to perfection, if drogba wud hav scored that chance, i expected him to score,, well i am sure he wll in second leg, with cole back the issue of dealing with messi no longe worries me. i am expecting a complete change of tactics from guus hiddink for the second leg, since the pitch is small he might opt for a powerful midfield surge to attack barca throught he middle, stamford bridge being small pitch allows midfielders to get forward as well as defend without too much huffin and puffing, but for sure, we ned to bring in kalou or anelka to support drogba in attack. it would be interesting to see if guus drops any of the midfield players to accomdate a winger or striker, nothing is decided yet, so not getting carrried away, if barca score a goal, we are faced with a humungous task of scoring 2, leaving gaps for them to attack. it could turn out to be another thriller. hope somthing goood for chelsea, 4-0 to chelsea,, LOL
Another disadvantage for the BarKs ( barca )
The cannot play large portions of the game defennsively and are geared ONLY to play offensively. And how and do you play offensively ? only when YOUR defence is at least decent and / or the opposing side’s attack is toothless.
Guus will find the way , shouldnt be too much of a headache !
I think most experienced managers/coaches already can figure out what to do come next week !
I am in total agreement with BC, and would like to quote CFC “defend and nick a goal wud hav been the message which worked almost to perfection,”…very true.
One point i would like to add is my total admiration towards the referee. He was strong and made great decisions…he didn’t bowed to home fans’ pressure. I wonder if the likes of wankers like riley, wiley, halsey, styles, webb, ….thank god granny graham is no more!!! Great man you are Mr Woolfgang!
I cant understand why that @*#@# Barca coach and players going at referee and saying he supported us..in every Barca game i seen referee helping Barca…so they feel referees are for helping them..yeah..referee made some mistakes …not only against Barca ,he made some mistakes against us as well..but neither of those were game changing ones…

The game was a battle between their attack and our defence..and our defence is won..
Many team had parked bus against us early in the season…had we gone at opponent team by saying anti-football..etc..etc..no..
We went at our team and coach…in football these things happens…you have to find a solution to break it if u are a manager..whining at opponent teams shows ur inabilty..

Most people who are not Chelsea fans want a BarKs ( barca) victory next week , I can feel it , and I am reading lots of it too on various sites.
they think the 0-0 will work against us and Bark’s scoring the first away goal will be the death of us.
Well let’s see how the BarKs handle a full cannonade attack when the Chelsea attack of Drogs, Anelka, Malouda and Lamps is set upon ther flimsy makeshift backline.
If they are rested for the Fulham game they will certainly be able to run box to box and help the defence when needed. ( actually Anelka has already had a rest ) .
The BarKs will certainly not be able to do that after the Real M match.
I think if Guus finds a way to keep the game mostly in midfield , bomb the Barks with crosses from the flanks, and plenty of corners , we can be on our way to the finals.
There may be twists and turns on the way to the finals but to all those predicting that BarKs have got the goods and entitled to easy win and pretty goals remember this is the famous : CHELSEA FOOTBALL CLUB and don’t you think we’ll let us be beaten or humiliated in our own patch !
Sometimes, young means wise. Read this, Bojan got it spot on unlike smelly arses like pep, yeya, pig, xevi, …… i am in total agreement with Zaneeb here: “..whining at opponent teams shows ur inabilty..”
http://www.espnstar.com/football/champions-league/news/detail/item257477/Bojan-won't-blame-ref-for-draw/
i know sentiment of non chelsea fans but we tell we are not anti football pplaying team we will attack barca and score goals
which will send chelsea through come on blues show them we deserve to be in the final performance like at anfield in ucl
Haha, I feel so sorry to barcelona players crying “We played football and Chelsea did not?”. I know that their coach is talented, even players are talented, but the thing is that they lack brain. Guus masterminded the gameplan and surprised everyone with defensive gameplay. Now Barca are losing confidence and their players feel the task has become a huge mountain, and they are lacking courage. So they are making all these excuses because they know they can´t win. Keep on whinining Barcas, keep on making excuses, it will make your semifinal exit less painful.
umm i dont think we should even be talking about this anti football thing..its rubbish..why the hell is everyone offering explanations here?they bark let them bark..ignore..
for the reason barca keep throwing this ‘anti-football’ card, they will lose at the bridge, they are underestimating us and now writing us off, I am certain barca will conceed a penalty next week
looks like we are getting a chance for revenge on man utd this season!
” Real Madrid smells blood ” say the tabloids
Come on real madrid batter Barca

WE went and achieved what we went out for,,,!!,,,,A technically mesmerising team had to be neutrilized by flawless tactics….which no team could achieve at camp nou…!!…and hence they scored at every home match ……A truly great team is one which can adapt to to all situations…and chelsea did tht….!!..We did an attacking … mastercalss in anfield were no one scores goals atleast in europe..
We did a defensive masterclass at camp nou where barca destoy teams..!!….
elementary….:Survival of the fittest!!!…..
HAIL THE BLUES!!!
Our new home kit sucks,It seems we will wear it at ROME.By the wining of Champions League there will be a great money in Chelsea pocket.
We need another generation of chelsea for next year, how sad Guss is not staying.
I WANT CHELSEA FESTIVAL GOAL AT WED.
Lets just hope and have faith that all will be going Chelsea’s way because…. Barcelona is losing TWO players Marquez and Puyol. Barcelona will also need to travel to TWO “S.B.” -> Santiago Barnebeu and Stamford Bridge… and in this TWO S.B., Barcelona will lose. A double pressure for them in each department on Players, Environment, and Histories…Barcelona will lose to Chelsea.
and again….i got that feeling….maybe this could be The Chelsea and Hiddink…thats gonna win the Champions League this year. Hail Chelsea and Hiddink!!!

Our shirt for 2009-10 season, it is so boring!
but i think it suits players, if not us!

The shirt is a bit weird eh?!
yeah, the difference this season has been hiddink, I have had no doubt in my mind had grant or scolari been in the hot seat, we would be nowhere near where we are right now
and as for our new home kit, it is even worse than the one we are playing in now, how hard can it be to design a good kit dammit
man utd, arsenal, in fact, nearly every team in the world tends not to have this problem
I hear the russian national team is using this style….hmmmmmmmmm
Let hope this New kit bring CL to Stamford Bridge. Our home kit is strange,in my opinion it gave players a different confidence. Its totally modern and make our players look like super stars.

Rijkaard?
That failure is no where near as good as THE GUUS
why do you think rijkaard is a failure?
Before the game Hiddink said chelsea would attack at nou camp and play their normal game.
At half time Ray Wilkins said Barca have dominated 1st half and Chelsea needed to step up
their game in the second, they didn’t. Was it really Hiddink’s plan to defend for 90 mins? Or
was that the best chelsea could do against superior opposition? From what both Hiddink and
Wilkins said, I beleive the latter.
The plan was to defend and counter…but the counter was not clicked well…

Looks like Roy Hodgson is putting aside our local derby rivalries and is rooting for us to beat Barca. The fate of the CL final will be determined in two days in London, the Emirates and Stamford Bridge. I don’t know about you guys, but I am wishing for an all-London final. It’s time the trophy came to London. Let all London fans unite and drive out the Manchester and Catalan scum!
yes i also want chelsea arsenal final
let us finnish fulham in 1st half and rest lampard he needs to be fresh 4 wednesday
arsenal would be almost no threat, but seeing as man united aren’t playing too well right now, I’d like to see arsenal beat them
all london final would be good
but yeah, i want to se ballack play lampards role today with di santo and anelka up front
we should thrash fulhma this time round, im going for 2-0
with ballack and anelka scoring
Blue is the colour.
Football is our game.
Winning is our aim.
Chelsea is the name.
Let’s sing the anthem for the boys as they whop the *SS of Barca.
6-2 is Madrid.Not Chelsea.
Liverpool beat Real 4 we beat liverpool.
barca beat real 6 we beat Barca.
Not watch game as I will return to school on Monday.Too bad and I will pray for chelsea always to win this tie.Love ya all at Blue Champions and also love my Blue.KTBFH
What ever everyone say, I dont think Arsenal deserve to be in the finals of CL. They ve done nothing this season; and they will win nothing this season ( JOSE’s style ). Thou Iam a Chelsea fan, I respect Fergie. Atleast he win matches, unlike Arsene whiner. Arsenal were VERY LUCKY to have reached the CL semi-finals, at the first place. I konw it will be much easier for Chelsea, if it is the GONERS in the finals, but then, that would be injustice to football itself. Keep faith guys, we can beat ManU too. So no worries.
KTBFFH!!!!!!!
Why doesn’t Chelsea ever draw Real Madrid ?
Ramos after the 6-2 loss :
“The great teams of Europe (Barcelona and Liverpool) have beaten us and we must recognise that, although it hurts.
If you remember the away game against Barca, we defended further back and everyone criticised us for playing like a small team. Today we had no option but to take more risks and go for the win, but it did not work.
JoseHoliday : Well Chelsea ain’t Real Madrid, we don’t have a flimsy flaky defense…… and we ain’t has beens and we don’t play in the softie La Liga and also we have about 6 teams who play local derbies against us at full speed. So get ready for another tactical job done on you come Wednesday…
Liverpool, Arsenal, ManUre and Barca have all defeated Real in recent times and Chelsea has defeated and played to the end against these times , so don’t u BarKs think it will be easy just because u beat Lil Ol’ Real !
i am not guus hiddink. Still i think that, becoz’ barca scored in every home game, Hiddink made that tactical decision.
And today’s barca is more powerful than the barca of year earlier. And why not defend against Barca, when even the so-called “best club in the world” was defending against them at their soil. I wonder what would’ve been if Terry hadn’t slipped at Moscow………………
Its funny that Real Madrid have the Diarra kid who didnt make the cut with at Chelsea, Heinze the don’t- know- how- to- attack former left back discarded by ManUre , raul who is aging and good against only smaller teams , a frail Robben, Cannavaro who looks and moves like a , well old man,
The Manager is Ramos whose Englsh and Spanish wasn’t understood at all while at Spurs
Weren’t we misguided when we thought that Real was up to scatch and the La Liga rife with competition and that Barca could be denied and harried.
Yes we were conned into thinking that RM could put up a fight…….. So now C helsea take on the only team in La Liga capable of trying to get to the CL finals.
Oh BTW Humble Hiddink is saying that Barca’s not having their first choice back line will not affect them.
What a masterstroke ! He is readying them for an open battle when another tactical battle is in store and will bamboozle them with some unknown stuff come Wednes .
so what they won 6-2. liverpoll won big against real to and we won them. chelsea is strong they just need to keep focused and have a good belife in that they can win. LET THE DROG OUT!!
C’MON CHELSEA!!!!!
i was really disappointed with Real yesterday against Barca not because they lost but because they offered no resistance at all. They did not live up to the billing and the team did not have a motivation at all. they were poor in defence, very poor in midfield and hopeless in the attack.
good at it may sound for Barca, this are things they will find in abundance in chelsea as i know the TMO will look at the technical and tactically inabilities of Real and combine it with our own proficiencies.
no doubt, it gonna be a tough match, Barca will have more possession but Chelsea will win the day……we still have a last date, last divine revenge over Man Utd to carry out, as the installments over Liverpool and Arsenal has been completed under TMO.
just to say
real could not score past liverpool but we scored 7 against them in the tie
if real have the firepower to put 2 in barca’s net considering they play with two defensive midfielders, im sure we can do alot more damage than that should we put our minds to it
I have full faith we can do the job on wednesday
Lets stay humble, cause there is a possibility/risk that we will be out of the CL on Wednesday evening. I never thought Madrid would have a good shot against barca cause I know had pepe banned and they don’t play good defense. Any team in la liga seems to be able to score on Madrid nowadays.
Am very positive that we can progress to the final cause we have a great team but barca are a superb team as well so its can go either way. What I want is for our lads to bring their A-games and play like there is no tomorrow.
I want to se Manu go through to the final, for two different reasons. 1: I want us to get revenge in the final 2: if we don’t progress I am very confident they will be able to stop bleating barca. (cant stand barca and even more arsss)
We had a decent game yesterday. The front three (Malouda DD n Anelka) were playing well.
I got three concerns though; Essien can’t make a pass even if his life was depended on it. Our sloppy play and defending at times and the last but the most important thing, lampsy is no were to be found. He been awful in few games now. He´s passing are bad his free kicks as well. I know he almost cracked one yesterday but that was rare. He really needs to be on top of his game on Wednesday.
Mikel played well yesterday, and hopefully he will be in the middle against barca. I am not sure if we going to play Jose or Ivanovic, but hopefully Ivanovic get the nod.
Cech – Ivanovic – Alex – JT – Ashley – Mikel – Ballack – Malouda – Lampsy – Anelka – DD. These are the players I want to play against barca. I know I have left out Essien but he been poor. I think Essien will start but then get subbed, having Ballack start on the bench like he did yesterday.
Anelka was awesome yesterday. And Malouda is heating up in the right time. If we can keep alot of possession and attack them then we will have a great chance of advancing. Come on Chelsea
everybody is talking about stopping messi. but we really have to stop xavi aswell as he is the play maker in barca. let essien take him as he had gerrard in the liverpool game
essien is better than mikel so he deserves to play no doubts in my mind cant judge on one game
Real Madrid defence were like piece of shit. The only way to beat Barca is playing on the air. They conceded 2 goal from air at Bernabeou.
We need a great confindece.I hope a little luck be our side and WED.Their defence will be even worse without Puyol.
Replying to JoseHoliday: I want to play them so badly!! because they were one of the best in Europe so when we beat them other people will realize that Chelsea is the best in Europe !! even when we beat Juve people seemed to think it was not a big deal .. and then we beat Pool !! that was a big win back to back season!! we are a mean team but dont get the credit we deserve. Everyone thought Barca would score 12 on us…. please i was not surprised we held them…we are good like that!! we will now show our steel at the Bridge!! I think we should keep Ivano at RB for this game start Mikel/Essien/Lampard in the middle of the park and we should be good. And get at them early!!
http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/sam-wallace-chelseas-1632mayear-question-just-what-has-frank-arnesen-achieved-1678559.html
I just see it as another man utd game, too many players that like to get foward, shaky defence,
I mean, when we play man utd we simply have to protect ourselves around their aggression, ronaldo gets neutered as standard (don’t know why fergie doesn’t put him in the middle) the strikers get closed down and the midfield gets pushed aside
the only major difference is the quality of the central area, if pep really wants the win, he’ll need to change things up, probably even try the old 4-2-4
on the independant article, it voices alot of frustration that supporters have been doing for a long time
Mancienne was given more chances under capello than any chelsea manager until hiddink
we have a hole at left back, ryan bertrand is a carbon print of ashley cole and from what I hear, actually knows what he’s doing in attack
we need more on the left wing, gael kakuta is a brilliant talent and actually beats defenders for fun
we had that big striker nielsen who I hear is good enough to start for mid table teams and has now left or is leaving
even di santo who we brough in is not getting near enough time, maradonna is encouraging him to leave us
joe cole got a horrible injury at the mid point of the season, leaving us with one winger in the first team and with all the wingers in the reserves, none of them are getting a chance
arsenal, well, their whole team is high priced youth so we can forget about them
man utd have danny simpson on loan in a starting spot at blackburn, frazier campbell on loan at tottenham, rafael da silva is a first team regular
even marcheda who is terrible, welbeck who looks like a clumsy horse and johnny evans are all getting regular action
our youth players are touted as the future of the country yet alone the world, of our academy, I can name a good few players that should grow into the england national team
4/11 in the typical england squad are from chelsea, in 3 years time do we think it will be more or less?
http://goal.com/en/news/12/spain/2009/05/04/1245315/thierry-henry-to-miss-barcelonas-chelsea-champions-league-tie greeeeeeeeeattttt news
was just about to post the skysports link to that
it seems like this may just have to be our year
with henry out, bojan is the only player to take up that left wing, he will prove a much easier task, in fact, this changes the whole balance of barca
we could see bosingwa in an advanced role
I don’t mean to jump the gun, but the way I see it, barca have pique as the only recognised centreback so abidal would have to move into the middle and his tracking is not good, sylvinho is about wayne bridge in defensive dilligence, barca’s left flank is dangerously exposed as we won’t have to defend as much, pep will probably put seydou keita on the left side somewhere
I honestly don’t see us losing now
They say Henry’s out for Wednesday
I don’t know why but i’m more concerned about the game with Manu in the final. Don’t want to lose to Manu in the final. It will be better if we lose to Barca in the semi. But i’m kinda confident we’ll beat(*beat* is not the correct word, *win* suits more) Barca.
I agree with you TruePlatinum i also think this is our year……….Bojan is not even half-strong as Henry so he wont be a threa.Messi will be neutrilized by A.Cole.Their defence is crap i mean Puyol suspended and Marquez injured.Martín Cáceres will have to playand hes not even half as strong as Puyol, wich means Drogba will terrorize their defence.I predict a 2-0 or 2-1 in favour of The Blues with Drogba and Anelka scoring.
KTBFFH!!!!!!!!!!!!
is j cole back yet??????????
is j cole back yet??????????
No his gonna be back sometime in june
BAD NEWWWWWSSSSSSSs http://goal.com/en/news/12/spain/2009/05/04/1245685/barcelona-deny-henry-out-of-chelsea-encounter crap
was is it a mind game or something lets see what happens we should prepare 4 him
Before the game Hiddink said chelsea would attack at nou camp and play their normal game.
At half time Ray Wilkins said Barca have dominated 1st half and Chelsea needed to step up
their game in the second, they didn’t. Was it really Hiddink’s plan to defend for 90 mins?
Hiddinik who played 1-9-1 was so lucky not to concede 3 goals at the first half.
Otherwise it was pretty much a total domination of one side and clawless lucky team in the other side.
Comparing Chelsea with barca it’s pretty much an insult to football, an insult to the tiny bit of intelligent left here.
Chelsea can win and that’s the beauty of this game, in a given day anything can happen and with few broken braca players legs the chances are better.
4-2 barca !!!!
I don’t know about Hiddink being lucky, but you’re lucky the U.S. supports Israel otherwise your country would seize to exist.
@ israeli. good thing u are from israel cause now i know u dont know fotball and arer not just very stupid. the barca – chelsea game looked like it could go on for hours without barca scoring. the game is still open but chelsea have something barca dosnt. and that is english players and a great spirit.
C’MON CHELSEA!!
Hi there,
Not sure where the best place is to post this. I’ve interviewed an old boy of yours, Sam Tillen, for my blog about English footballers abroad: http://lesrosbifs.wordpress.com/2009/05/04/sam-tillen-%E2%80%93-former-chelsea-and-brentford-now-of-fram-iceland/

@israel
in every Chelsea match..we will decide what type of game to play ..not opposition …that shows our strength…

I’d liike to go off-topic a bit here :
By the looks of it Joese Mourinho might be the next Real Madrid coach nexr year !
Messi says we won’t attack them, poor boy, thinks he’s God :
My answer : Don’t you remember kid ? Not so long ago, 3 goals in 19 min ? and a whisker , yes an inch from scoring an away goal last week ?
Most everyone think ur gonna win cos of ur fancy moves and admittedly super control.
Yes these things are truely fine and dandy !
And even dandier for you if you win by a goal margin like at Real.
Well come tommorow . I will tell you, you are gonna be squeezed foir space till kingdom come, rammed in the gullet by Drogs, hounded and hunted down in every tackle and a barrage of missles from every set piece. Chelsea will play you like a pack of hungry wolves , move forward and back in packs and pounce.
All of these things you and yours dislike, so up yours, and yours asses !
guyyyz chek this out

i disagree with u mate defending was the best option in the first leg look at munich lyon at nou camp they got thrashed i now
think chelsea can win this 2-1 to blues with drogba scoring
United did the same last year…that was not anti-football…but when Chelsea does it..its anti-football…

I agree with heyjose @97
You see, we KNOW and admit that Barca’s the best attacking side in the world at present and even more so on theor own turf.
( they are shit becuase of their play-acting and trickery to get fouls and whimpering Chelsea didn’t lie down and get raped voluntarily like Real but their football aint shit )
It’s like they are shit people noit shit players.
We WANT to win come out top dog over the two legs and therefore chose the best option i.e. defending to the death at their place and being one of the best defenses in the world, and could choose that option and did so exemplarily.
(and the counterattack was non-existant cos they were so good it’s not like we didn’t want to attack, F….K some people dont know a compliment when they see hear/read one )
It wasn’t a pretty sight for the Barcas or neutrals but in the eyes of Chelsea fans v v v great, cool. and heroic.
So what might be the Israeli whining abt ?
Forget not having any away goals. With this Barca team you gotta score against them on ur own turf anyways. One goal will be enough. And much better than having to score a mountainous task of 3 goals if the BarKs had scored two against us last week.
Replying to israeli:
yea yea, and chelsea let barca play 1(GK)-1-1-8 and they still didn´t find the net, they must be more over-rated.
The best quality of chelsea is adaptability. We always tend to be a bit stronger than our oppsition, and not show off too much like barcas.
israeli, im certain we played a 4-2-1-2-1
the point you should note, is that barca like to crush their opponent in the first leg and play substandardly in the second
they played as hard as they could in the first and we took it, now they have injuries and they are coming to our house
regardless of the away goals rule, I’m certain we are going to come away with a win I see Drogba scoring from a malouda cross, Lampard scoring from a penalty, a yellow for Daniel Alves and a very late goal from eto’o that will see us defending desperatley through injury time
Some interesting trends to look at:
2003 winners: Real Madrid (Adidas)
2004 winners: Porto (Nike)
2005 winners: Liverpool (Adidas)
2006 winners: Barcelona (Nike)
2007 winners: Milan (Adidas)
2008 winners: Manchester United (Nike)
It’s our year baby because IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING
Replying to True Blue in L.A.: well said mate=)
its funny how ppl are bashing chelseas first leg agains barca, but I didnt hear anything when we scored 2 away goals agains juve (actually 3 goals) or 7 agains one of the strongest sides in europe liverpool.
Replying to Nick: hey Nick .. good one man I hope so too!!
Replying to kuhulai: thats for that point man !! as i was saying earlier when we kick the big teams asses.. its like its no big deal…. I hate how people hate chelsea for no good reason!!!
we kill Juve and had two big away goals (drogba’s free kid should have stood !!) and went to one of the strongest teams in the world, pool and ran riot 3-1!! thats big .. but no credit!! we will silence them soon!! and according to Nick its out time!!
Replying to IwasMissingJose: O my God I said that to some guys the other day!! we can play any way we want for any situation!! we are one of the most adaptable teams out there
Replying to JoseHoliday: dont think so Ramos is doing a good job withthem
BC lovely pics of Golden Guss..Keep up
There are some negatives for us for tomorrow’s match.4 of our players are on 2 yellows.
1.Frank Lampard
2.Michael Ballack
3.Nicolas Anelka
4.Alex
A booking for either of these means they will miss the final, should we go through.Checked it on UEFA’s website.
Another interesting stat.
It is Chelsea who has conceded the most fouls and have the most yellows and reds.Click on the following link for this stat.
http://www.uefa.com/competitions/ucl/statistics/clubs/index.html
I am mainly worried about Lampard and Ballack.I hope we get through with none of the 4 being booked.
to nick: in 2005 liverpool was reebok
come on blues take from them everything
I don’t know about Hiddink being lucky, but you’re lucky the U.S. supports Israel otherwise your country would seize to exist.
What a smart answer
You better keep your answers to football !!!
Hiddinik was damn lucky and Chelsea will be damn lucky if they make it to the final after playing to a much much better side. Like I said before : in a given day anything can happen !!!!
Hiddink lucky? Hiddink is a fantastic tactician and man manager. When we talk about luck the only name that comes to my mind is Avram ‘Lucky Butts’ Grant. What a joke he was!
Hiddink is a fantastic tactician and man manager !!!!
yet he was lucky at braca
Don’t lose your temper mate
AG was the manger for 54 games, 2ed in the EPL and first time ever to take this club to the CL final!!!!! Is that a fact you will deny ?
Saying he was a joke is like saying you’re club is a joke and the joke was on you.
