Hiddink demolished Liverpool at Anfield. If Chelsea can’t progress to the semi finals tonight, not only that demolition has no meaning but also it reflects on Hiddink’s tactical capabilities. This is a new and different challenge. We can’t afford to concede more than two goals. If Chelsea cannot progress tonight, it then has to be a horrible night for men in blue – the players, the coach, the staff and the fans. That’s because, on paper, it is such an easy objective.
The home match against Bolton has given tonight’s match a new level of expectation. From the Liverpool eyes, if Bolton can score three at the Bridge, Liverpool can. Very simple thought. That’s a premier league match and this is a champions league match. But Liverpool thinks that they are capable of scoring three goals in Stamford Bridge and that’s what keeping them confident about tonight’s game.
The Bolton match was an aberration. It was quite clear to see that at 4-0 at 70 minutes, we thought the game was over. Any team would think so. Hiddink rightfully replaced Drogba for Anelka and Lampard for Deco. The problem was Anelka is not Drogba and Deco is not Lampard. Once Drogba and Lampard went off, we lost control of the match. Bolton grew in confidence and trusted their single biggest weapon – long balls. I won’t blame them. Long ball is football. It’s just that we were defended them poorly. Cech had one of his worst games of recent times. Our defence were no shaky while handling long balls.
In a way, I’m glad that the 20 minute fiasco happened in the match against Bolton. Now all the players would know where complacency would land them. Hiddink would have known the importance of keeping Lampard and Drogba all 90 minutes in tonight’s match. Cech would have realised that he has to be at this best, again. The problem I see is, cunning Rafa would have seen this match. He’d have realised how flappable we were at long balls. Liverpool are masters at long balls. Expect them to test us with a few long balls aimed at Torres.
Gerrard would most certainly play, after his now-routine pre-match drama of will he, won’t he. Mascherano would be back for them as well. We will not have Terry because of suspension. Anelka and Ashley Cole are one yellow away from suspension. I’m okay with Anelka but Ashley Cole not playing a game? I can’t even think of it.
The Chelsea approach for tonight’s game would be interesting. With a fantastic 3-1 win away, how would you approach the home game? If we try to defend all night, we’ll be playing into their strenths and hopes. The only way Liverpool can score three is by keep having the ball and attack all 90 minutes. The only reason why we blew Liverpool out of sight in Anfield was that we took the attack to them. I think that’s what we will and should do tonight. Attack as if we need to score two goals. In other words, play this just like a premier league match. I expect Hiddink to put out the strongest eleven possible. If we keep thinking that ‘all that we need to do is not to concede three goals’ then that would spell disaster. We just need to forget the away result and play like this is the first leg.
From elsewhere, good news coming your way. Ancelotti has ruled himself out say the headlines. When I click and read through it, nothing emphatic there. If someone wants to say a no, they will say NO, right? Interestingly, when asked about the Chelsea job Ancelotti says, ‘May be, Mourinho will go but I, however, am going to continue to coach Milan’. We will have to start a ‘Say NO to Ancelotti’ campaign later on.
Now onto the John Terry’s remarks on Hiddink and Mourinho. Now please get off his back. Terry gave a very very honest response to a question that was posed to him. Also, he spoke in the capacity of the captain of the team. If Hiddink has no problems in remaining as Chelsea coach, there is no reason to bring anyone to replace him – be it TSO or Rijkaard or anyone. You’re hearing this from one of the biggest self-proclaimed Jose Mourinho fans.
If Hiddink turns out to be Scolari (which I’m sure he won’t, cuz there is only one Scolari), then we can talk about it. For now, there is no need to talk about new managers unless Hiddink is really really gone. And, I have nothing to say about the rumours connecting Terry to TSO’s dismissal. If one player can trigger the dismissal of a coach, then the club is in a big danger. That’s a rumour anyway, so I’d move on. But I realise that something went wrong between Terry and TSO but that’s something that happens with the coaches and players all the time.
Back to Stamford Bridge. Liverpool eliminated Chelsea from champions league in 04-05 and 06-07. Chelsea eliminated Liverpool from champions league in 07-08 and 08-09. All square. Chelsea to beat Liverpool tonight 2-1.

Nice post… im going with a 1-0 to the pool and for chelsea to meet barca in the semis.. in other matches i hope porto kills utd at home and
bayern salvages some pride against barca..

I’m pumped for this game. We can’t be complacent and, like you said BC, attack as though we were on level terms. I have faith that we’ll be moving on to the semi-finals.
KTBFFH!
Quote, “We just need to forget the away result and play like this is the first leg.”
This is the best script for tonight’s match!
I can foresee a very happy blue hearts soon, if we cannot eliminate scoucers tonight, then we are not the Chelsea that we really are! We can do it, no doubt in that. Cech won’t repeat his mistakes and deco won’t be there to spoil our midfield like he did last Saturday! Deco sucks…sorry, but he really does!
I second bluesluv’s formation. The substitutes would be: Hilario, Belletti, Mikel, Mancienne, Anelka and Di Santo.
3:1 for us! HURRAY!!! I have already planned my beer session during the match! I will celebrate the whole 90 minutes and post match, no reason not to. They must have history of dramatic comebacks, but we aren’t those teams that gave them that chance, we are Chelsea!
Chilled beer and cool match with hot Chelsea goals! Superb cocktail!
come on blues win today
I wouldn’t mind seeing mikel in for ballack. I don’t know about you guys, but last weeks game was so open and fast paced compared to recent years where there was hardly any goal. I’m okay if the game is as slow as previous ties, aslong as there aren’t many goals.
Also hoping for porto to upset man poo and arsenil to fall at home :D

hey you gotta be more ‘chelsea’ and not predict 1-0 in favor of pool. Can’t imagine how can you imagine another defeat at bridge !
Even though Chelsea are in pole position to advance, use the Bolton result as a reminder to not become complacent. Liverpool are remembering Istanbul to fuel themselves, well Chelsea should remember Moscow to fuel their own cause, and remember the pain. Play with the pain in their hearts and leave everything out on the field, play as hard as you can. Don’t look ahead to Barcelona or a potential final matchup. We have a 90 minute match to play before discussing anything like that. Take it one match at a time! Chelsea should play to win, and I believe they will do so, amidst thousands of blue flags!

Why i dont know………………….but i am tensed about today…more than last week………….And i can many chelsea fancs here including BC himself….tensed….Rafa is one cunning …B*****D…..I am sure tht idot…would have sat all week trying figure how to unshackle gerrard and how to exploit chlsea weakness….If we coast thru the 1 st hal …controlling the pace of the game…and score one in 2nd….We are …thru to semi finals….hope it happens…..!!..
cheers!!
Let’s PAINT STAMFORD BRIDGE BLUE……….err….wait….it is BLUE… err….. LET’S PAINT RAFA BLUE!!! yeah, that should do it.
Let’s forget about the first leg, the idea is that we are playing Liverpool, one of our biggest rivals in recent football history. To me, I hate Liverpool more than anything else. So to lose to them in Stamford Bridge for whatever scoreline is a HUGE NO-WAY (we already lost once). However, given the fact that there will always be Dramas when these both sides meet, here is my script for tonight;
20-min J.Carragger O.G (from corner) Chelsea 1 – Liverpool 0
44-min Torres scored Chelsea 1 – Liverpool 1
:::: Half Time at 1-1 ::::
72-min Torres scored Chelsea 1 – Liverpool 2 [Rafa played 4 strikers to tie the game for extra-time]
79-min Gerrard scored …… but disallowed score remain Chelsea 1 – Liverpool 2
89-min Lampard scored
90-min Drogba scored ……. Chelsea wins 3-2. Steven Gerrard in tears. RAFA is OFFICIALLY PAINTED BLUE….
KTBFFH!!!!
guys & Moyo…yeah..cos..you are the only lady on this site…
I AM FREAKING NERVOUS……
I think, I have nailed our ‘weakness’, saw the 3 goals Bolton scored over and over again…and If the scousers…they attack us THAT way/…..we are S C R E W E D…. we need nerves of steel…Ze German shud lead frm the Front….Anelka ….also….Riccy panics and could lose concentration…Ivan is a calm & hard working guy…Essien,,,,shud just do what he does so good for us…show up in the right frame of mind…..we have a few weak links..
read on another blog about Chelsea fans characters…we are all Bipolar :)!!!!
I think we need to play Ballack and Ivanovic after the first leg they got to be pumped.

hiddink will avoid playing defensive players to give us a psychological leverage. No doubt, benitez in our position, would play a defensive team, probably a 3-5-2, im expecting rafa to unleash a diamond. His aim is to stop us scoring while scoring 3 goals, we need to pile pressure from the off, not too much to leave us exposed, but enough to force their defence into mistakes because one goal and the rest will flood in when they give up. When we have a two goal cushion, sub ashley cole, ballack and probably malouda to keep us fresh but in control of the game, i expect we’d change formation at that point
im going for a 2-1 win, drogba and ballack scoring for us and gerrard for the red scousers
all we need is a clean sheet in the first half and score 1 goal controled possesion le them attack and catch them in counter attack
not a defensive approach i am talk about if we score 2 game over frustrate them cuut off their supply make them desperate force mistakes
ok people i dont really think there is anything to be nervous about..iam actually happy that we showed complacency against Bolton..now the players have it firmly in their minds to play well..we’ll win 3-1 again..Drogs,Lampard and BAllack to score..
If chelsea score the first goal ,the game is totally over for liverpool,so it is obvious that Guss is concentating on scoring first.
I want a solid defend from chelsea ,the 2007 defence line was the best thing that i had been seen.We need that power of the defence for Barcelona defence.I have bad feeling about Ashely Cole when he is against messi.
Predictions when its all said and done:
Arsenal 1-1 Villareal (Arsenal advance on penalties)
Porto 1-2 Manchester United
Chelsea 1-1 Liverpool
Bayern 2-2 Barcelona
Predictions when its all said and done:
Arsenal 1-1 Villareal (Arsenal advance on penalties)
Porto 1-2 Manchester United
Chelsea 1-1 Liverpool
Bayern 2-2 Barcelona
Chelsea must complete double against liverpool in CL. Then its against Arsenal with whom we have unfinished business left.
one thing is certain we will concede one goal in the first 15 min
how many of you bet against that??????????
im actually thinking villarreal go through, 2-1 after normal time,
porto go through on penalties
we win tonight 2-1
bayern are going to lose 3–1 tonight
someone mentioned mario gomez earlier, yes, i would be in favour of buying that player
tonight, i don’t think we will see a goal until 25 minutes which is when we will score, I get the feeling we are going to give away a dangerous free kick or penalty tonight with carvahlo getting a yellow but i also think xabi alonso will get himself sent off if he plays tonight
hiddink will probably start mikel over ballack tonight, see how liverpool reacts with essien roaming to take pressure away from lampard with javier back on the field
FLY THAT BLUE FLAG HIGH, FLY IT PROUD, LIVERPOOL IS FINISHED TONIGHT!
I am a little bit nervy about this game but i expect either a boring 0-0 draw or another 3-1 thrashing of Liverpool.
I am sure we will concede today…but we will score too..

I could never picture ma self bein this nervy bein 3-1 from the first leg.
the more I read of what rafa and the liverpool players say, about bein comeback kings I start to second guess our chances.
but the fact is, if cant go through to the semi bein 3-1 up and playing infront of our homefans then we dont deserve to win the CL.
this is our redemtion year folks and we get a chance to hammer the scousers for breaking our SB record. go chelsea!!!
Feels good to have guus, it feels good to have guus, it feels good to have guuuu….

Hello people… as long as Deco not playing…everything will be alright. In fact, Chelsea gonna win big I guess due to the fact that Liverpool go all out and forgotten about Defending. It is a gamble for them to take…and a gamble which they might lose by a bigger margin. Chelsea, however, will nail Liverpool right on the counter attack as they are not in the mood to sit back and relax. I believe today, the Essien, Lampard, Ballack and Drogba will produce something magical.

Don’t worry you’re not the only one, but it’s good to be nervous before any big match, it means your alert and aware of the importance of the game. If our players aren’t nervous too, that’s when I would get concerned, because that reflect some degree of complacency and non-commitment.
We need to start thinking big and regard ourself as part of the big boys in European football. We should not get ourselves into a panic frenzy just because looserpool has managed to get most of the last few days headlines, going on and on and on about this comeback king shit. Bottom line is that we are 3-1 ahead, playing at SB, motivated by a semi-final place, revenge for looserpool breaking the SB record and showing that we are back and here to stay at the top of European football.
So come on guys; positive confident thinking is the name of the game. 2-0 victory easily without being cocky. Forget about the Bolton game, tonight’s the night we will salvage this season.
don`t worry people, we will win again, about bolton that was a lesson…….calm down…blue is the color
unconfirmed news no gerrard today
it is confirmed now

Subs: Cavalieri, Dossena, Hyypia, Agger, Riera, Babel, N’Gog.
To be honest i expected liverpool to win last week..especially after the first goal…but the end result really changed my view..and i can see us progressing hopefully…but im still very very nervous..because chelsea do tend to sleep after they are winning..
i have alot of confidence in hiddinks tactics….
i really wana see mikel playing today..cuz im not sure about ballack…lazy passes one after another..and i feel he is going to cost us something some time….
BLUE IS ALWAYZZZ THE COLOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good news mates, Gerrard isn´t in the starting line up and not even in the subs. So rafa would have to depend upon torres, benayun and lucas and alonso. So i think we can win this match comfortably. I hope players won´t sleep even if they go 4 goals ahead this time.
On the other hand, its very cunning from rafa, now we don´t know whom to mark. I´d say it gotta be alonso, lucas and benayun all three. I hope Essien, ballack and lampard are ready for it, because they´re going to attack from all three sides, but so do we :).
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck this shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit ! 0-2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!
wtf??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!where losing 0:2 at half time………wtf maaaaaan………..i hope hiddink comes up with something or else where gonna lose
Damn it! Chelsea play like a away team. Totally clueless! Come on Guss. Push them up!!!
tranquilos no se preocupen que vamos a ganar!!!arriba los azules!!
4-4 bet with Ladbrokes anyone? What a game!!!!

looks like liverpoo will not win anything this season..yet again..right after raga has signed a new contract too
looks like liverpoo will not win anything this season..yet again..right after rafa has signed a new contract too
I think I need a doctor’s check up after that one (just to see if my ticker is still working).
Man.. what a great job Liverpool did in leaving it all out on the feild. So many awesome highlights.
Pter’s total lack of confidience
Drog’s clip in
Alex’s shot (which I called out to everyone in teh bar right b4 he nailed it)
Essien’s save (that was not blocking a tap in – that had gas on it.. damn fine)
I could go on and on.. possibly the best 2nd half I have seen in football. Terrible defending yet amazing job by every player on the feild (except those were wearing headgear).
Think about this.. if we DO win it all in Europe this year and it is OUR year.. look at the teams (most likely) we will have to go through.
Liverpool
Barca
ManU (final rematch)
talk about excersising our deamons. wheeew…
hey bc, change the title to Chelsea vs LOOSERPOOL
