Fantastic match for this weekend. This match would be much more interesting than you had originally thought. Alan Shearer returns to Newcastle. And, we’re playing at St.James Park. Newcastle are fighting against relegation. The barcodes must be really charged up because Shearer is there. It could be a sell out crowd. It could be a very noisy one too. So this may not quite be a regular Newcastle vs Chelsea that you would expect to see. This Newcastle team has good potential. They have very good individual players who don’t click as a team. It just needs a decent manager to be a top half team.
Chelsea are fresh from a defeat at white hart lane. After a fantastic start to Hiddink’s short Chelsea career, a defeat in the last match has kind of brought us back down to earth. When Hiddink talks he does use the word ‘title’ every now and then. He thinks we can still talk about the title. I think so too. There are just 8 matches to go and we are 4 points down and played a match more. The goal difference is not much of a concern and it can go anyway in the next 8 matches. I too talk about this thing called ‘title’. All we need a string of three bad matches for Man Utd and Liverpool and a string of three good matches for Chelsea. I don’t want to put the probability of this happening in terms of odds. That would put me down.
If Guus learnt anything from the last match, he must not play Ballack. I know Ballack is a great player, and I love him too. I’ve got Ballack home jersey myself. But if he is playing as poor as he did in the last few matches, it’s very appropriate to bench him. He has been our weakest link in the midfield like Deco was a few weeks back (and then he got injured). The midfield must have Lampard, Essien, Mikel and Quaresma as a wide man. Didier Drogba won’t play. That’s fine. If the only matches he’s going to play this season are the two legs against Liverpool, I’ll be fine. We’ll save him to annihilate Liverpool. Nicolas Anelka is reported as an unsure starter for today but Hiddink claims that he is fit to play. Bosingwa is not available. Mancienne gets another chance to prove that he can start ahead of Bosingwa by form and merit and I’m sure he’ll prove it again.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are rumoured to be after Maicon, van der Vaart and Yuri Zhirkov. I hope all this is true. We need someone like Maicon, someone like van der Vaart and someone like Zhirkov. So if these three are available and if we’re making a bid, that’d be lovely. Hiddink has said that he has nothing to do with summer transfers because he is not staying beyond summer and that the new transfers are the responsibility of his successor. When TSO was sacked, someone had to be appointed immediately in the middle of a season. There was no time. Grant was appointed. Then Grant was sacked in mid-May and Scolari was appointed in early June. And then, Scolari was sacked in February and the new manager needs to be appointed only in May or June. That’s a lot of time to take a good decision. For once, Roman has the luxury of time. I hope he uses that well enough.
Coming back to the match, I think we’re in for 1-2 win for Chelsea. It’s been some time since Lampard scored, right?

i think we should play ballack as his confidence will be high after international week not in holding for sure .mikel for holding role
At last we’re back to the normal football routine, I was beginning to get withdrawal symptoms. I’m optimistic and think we’ll win 3-1. Goal scorers Mancienne, Essien and Quaresma and a consolation goal for Owen.
Ahh finally, the international week is over and normal club footballing schedule resumes with a cracking game against Newcastle. The fact that Shearer is at the helm will definitely have given the Toon some hope for a fightback, although I personally feel if we can control play for the first 20 odd minutes we can win the game easily. Judging the performances of our players during the international week, I say our team formation/selection should be like this:
—————————————–Cech——————————————
–Mancienne————-J.Terry————–Carvalho—————–A.Cole—-
———————————-John Obi Mikel————————————–
–Quaresma————————————– Michael Essien——————-
———————Ballack—————————–Lampard——————–
———————————–Anelka———————————————
Subsitutes:
Hilario
Belletti
Ivanovic
Deco
S.Kalou
M.Stoch
Franco Di Santo
I hope Anelka is fit as Guus Hiddink says he is, otherwise I dont think Di Santo can start (as much as I like the lad). I hope Stoch is on the bench, although im sure Malouda will be there instead of him sadly. All said, it should be a comfortable 2-0 for us if we see the first 20 minutes through.
KTBFFH!
look now, somebody wasn´t following the international matches, and its yo BC!
ballack was terrific in both the matches, and you thought to rule him out?
anyway i hope he starts kalou ahead of quaresma, kalou is much better.
Why should we go for Maicon when we have Bosingwa? Also, if Ballack stays then VDV shouldn’t come cause he’d be in the exact same predicament as he is in Madrid: sidelined. Zhirkov will be a welcome addition to our squad once we get rid of Malouda.
Against Newcastle:
Cech; Mancienne, Terry, Carvalho, A. Cole; Mikel, Ballack, Lampard; Essien, Anelka, Kalou
Subs: Hilario, Belletti, Alex, Deco, Quaresma, Malouda, Di Santo

Mate! Ballack playing well for Germany has been happening for many many years with some amazing consistency. It’s only his form, complacency and perceived carelessness that worry me. There are many players who play in very different planes for their country and club. Ballack again can be very magical when he is in his touch. When he is not, he makes our midfield ineffective. Let’s see. If he plays and plays well, I’m more than happy. I’d love to see a goal like that 25-yard screamer against Wales.
Haha BC your right, players play differently for their countries than what they play for their clubs. It can be because of a different position that they play in, the team composition and so on. If international merit was the only case, then Deco should be shining for us because he played ok for Portugal. One question though, why is everyone not in favour of Quaresma starting? He should be a given that chance, if hes bad then we can substitute him off for Kalou who is more of a super-sub explosive kind [I think Kalou plays better coming from the bench than when he starts more often than not]. But we shall see in a few hours, just pray that its not Malouda who you’ll see on your screen in that time !
KTBFFH!
Rumors about Sven-Göran Eriksson as Chelseamanager for 09/10 season.. what is your thoughs about that?

Subs: Hilario, Carvalho, Di Santo, Ballack, Deco, Belletti, Mancienne.
No Drogba, Ballack on bench .. Next week game with liverpool in mind or injury to drogba ???
Replying to cfc:
drogba injured his foot during training but I am almost certain he will be fit for the clash wit Liverpool midweek.
Great win, boring game, next one please
Big three points,well-deserved victory.
I am very happy for Malouda even happier for Di Santo
I gotta tell you man! This boy Di Santo is good, if he was given 90 mins he would’ve nicked in couple of goals. His movement, skills with the ball, the way he positions himself in the box looks like a player that has been playing PL football for years. The kid is got a talent. It is now up to Chelsea to give him a chance or waste this talent. I will start him well ahead of Anelka anytime against any opponent!
Replying to bookcengham:
well said about di santo, boy can play.
we did our business agains newcastle, now lets kick som Scousers a**
i hope liverpool an man u lose
