Tottenham 1-0 Chelsea | It had to happen one day . . .

Bosingwa. Ballack. Alex. 1-0 to Spurs. It was a poor performance but Spurs were poor too. In fact this game was a poor advertisement for football. Very soon, it was clear that the one makes more mistakes or the one who makes the worst mistake would be the loser. That had to be Chelsea. Spurs’ idea was quite clear. They were banking on the counterattacks. They had pace. They know that our back four (minus Cole) is not that pacy. All the game, they were depending on counterattacks. That’s not a bad idea especially if it gets you three points against a top four team.

From Chelsea’s side, I thought we had too many culprits. Bosingwa was a mess today. He was poor in attack and horrible in defence. He still thinks he is Lionel Messi. When he goes out of position dribbling the ball more often than not, he loses the ball and he lacks the pace/sharpness to then react and get back. He was the culprit for that goal. I wonder what was he thinking then? Actually, his mistakes could have been more expensive. I’m losing my patience with Bosingwa. Mancienne is not too far away. I won’t be surprised if Guus plays Mancienne in the next match.

What can I say about Ballack? I love this guy so much! He’s been poor, not days or weeks, months I’d say. He is no longer a 90-minute player. He is way too lazy for Chelsea. Occupying a crucial midfield role, the way he loses possession like he loves doing them, is attrocious. Ballack was so very disappointing that I was hoping that he gets subbed. It’s not that he is an untouchable or something. Obi Mikel in place of Ballack today would have made a world of difference. Is Alex looking for a summer exit or something? He is a good second choice for Carvalho but there are times when he drives you mad. Today he had too many such moments. Few minutes into the match, I was sure that Alex was gonna commit a shocker. Petr Cech had to make at least 4 or 5 saves in the first half to keep Chelsea in the game. It was Alex and Bosingwa than Spurs who kept Cech busy all the match.

Drogba was not sharp but he tried his bit. Anelka was invisible except for that fantastic shot. Our midfield as such was very weak. Sad to say this because I’m talking about a galaxy of Lampard, Essien, Ballack and Belletti. Ballack repeatedly put the rest of the midfield in trouble. We could not attack freely because few of the players were having a really bad day. I was waiting for Quaresma to arrive and he turned out to be such a failure today. Even Lampard and Essien were very mundane because of the support they got. Belletti and Ballack not doing well meant half of the midfield. Alex and Bosingwa underperforming was half of the defence. And there was Drogba and Anelka.

That’s Hiddink’s first defeat as Chelsea manager. Hiddink is a very intelligent man. I’m sure he’d have seen what went wrong today. I don’t expect him to slate individual players but I’m sure he would do the needful. We had about 60% possession in white hart lane and we had more than a dozen shots. 1-1 would have been the proper result for this match. We should have scored. I thought the approach was good but it had to be better. Spurs were sitting back in the second half but we took too much time to put full pressure on them. Here’s Hiddink:

We talked about it at half time, that they [Spurs] would come from the start, and we emphasised on this. But it was very sloppy defending for the goal, and then the team woke up and we took over. But we told them to get through the tough period in the first 10 minutes before half-time, and then we could get through the game. But we didn’t and that is very disappointing. Sometimes when you are gifted player there are circumstances where you cannot always look for the beautiful solution in the dangerous part of the park. So we have to clear these balls every now and then. The way we lost 10 minutes after half time, as professionals with so many international games, you must know when there is heat in the kitchen and extinguish the fire. This was a huge opportunity, knowing that Man United is 2-0 down and you have a great chance to really chase them. We lost a great opportunity. These are the typical days at the top of the league, the key moments and if Man United are losing, those are the moments to strike and we didn’t.

And yes, I loved the way Man Utd bounced back from their Liverpool defeat. It’s so annoying to see that we couldn’t take advantage of it. Even a draw would have helped us a wee bit. This could be Rafa’s dream day. I hope Villa beat Liverpool tomorrow. I have a feeling that Man Utd and Liverpool could still lose games. I’m still confident because I feel that Hiddink is good and he knows what he is doing. He is a very reliable manager. Liverpool will lose tomorrow. Villa will beat Man Utd next week. Go Villa Go!

Don’t fool yourself BC. Our team is not good enough to be at the top. Imagine Spurs defence getting a clean sheet! I am hoping Liverpool win tomorrow. I hate Manchester alot more than Liverpool and would not mind Rafa beating Alex to the post. I am sorry but we don’t have the team to win it

GUUS’ Mistakes:
1.) WHERE IN HELL WAS MIKEL? not in the game… not even on the bench!
2.) Why the fuck did Belletti start?
3.)Why the hell didn’t you bring in Kalou and Quaresma at the beginning of the second half?
4.) How in hell could Anlka play all 93 minutes? He didn’t make a pass all day!… not to talk of make a shot off target? (not on target)
5.)Why is Ballack still in the frst team… Why is he not on the reserve’s bench team!
6.) Why bring in Malouda with only 15 minutes.. why not kalou? Malouda has definitely had his chances; he has failed thre managers already. Kalou scores in big games (remember against manure)
You all can blame Drogba all you want but I think he was fantastic today; he was our best defender. He stopped two gaols from happening and and he had 5 on target. Anelka was crap. Essien started brightly but faded very fast. Belletti flopped bad… Ballack was a tottenham player… Bosingwa forgot he was a defender and never went to the back. Even during corner kicks! Terry was nowhere… We were left with Alex, Ashley cole, a tired lampard and drogba. This is where we needed Mikel.
You cansay what you want about him but whenever heplays, the gamealways goes according to his tempo. If he plays brilliantly, we can’t lose; if he flops, we get hammered.

3. TruePlatinum - 21st Mar

im not happy for alot of reasons
i dont agree with the bosingwa statement, bosingwa is probably the fastest defender on the planet and easily outruns the majority of fowards, the problem is his dillegence in attack is not equalled in defence which is the problem belletti gave us last season

I think this was an experiment for hiddink and im sure this wouldn’t happen again under him

4. JoseHoliday - 21st Mar

In retrospect it is so easy to criticize : but u know, as I wrote b4 the league is gone and we are paying for honnor’s sake til the end of the season.

But at least we didnt crash like ManUre !

5. GamingTheSystem - 21st Mar

Boy was that 1st half dull!! Terrible to watch – I almost fell asleep!).
Gomez made some amazing saves so kudos to their goalie who seems to finally be adjusting to the Prem.

Like I said in my post yesterday – A hint of overconfidence and the “New Manager Bounce” smell is no longer fresh. This was a tough year and we still can pull out an FA cup victory but if we don’t continue to play at full throttle we will end up 3rd in the league and no Silverware again this season.

If the Chelsea team that showed up today plays that way in the next round of the Champs – we will be embarrassed for sure.

6. andrew - 21st Mar

compare to boswinga, lahm is the better and fastest player…

7. Nayanesh - 21st Mar

Our midfield didnt perform today.Ballack was the culprit.Mikel plays way better than him in
that holding position.Drogba was actually defending well. But Anelka was pathetic.
Hiddink now has his international commitments.

8. Dev..True blue - 21st Mar

Whatever said and done…i still BELIEVE in the team and ALL the players that others have CRITICIZED…..afterall…they are the team..
we will bounce back for sure…if not now…at least in the forthcoming seasons…

http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/90422/Chelsea-move-for-Rijkaard-

helsea are ready to appoint former Barcelona boss Frank Rijkaard as their new manager in the summer.

Interim boss Guus Hiddink ñ who employed Rijkaard as a coach during his time in charge of Holland ñ has recommended his fellow Dutchman to owner Roman Abramovich.

Rijkaard has told close friends that he is taking over ìa top European clubî in the summer. Sunday Express Sport can reveal the club is Chelsea.

As part of the new set-up being pieced together by Hiddink, Ajax chief scout Hans van der Zee will also move to Stamford Bridge. He will join Frank Arnesen in bringing in and developing new talent.

Arnesen, although a Dane, is another Hiddink disciple and has strong Dutch connections, having played for Ajax and PSV Eindhoven.

Hiddink is committed to returning to manage Russia on a full-time basis but is likely to return to Chelsea in November in an ëoverlordí capacity once his adopted countryís fate in the World Cup qualifying stage is decided.

Even if Russia qualify for the 2010 finals there is still a good chance that Hiddink would be released from his contract because there would be seven months for a new man to bed in before the finals.

Abramovich has renewed his Chelsea vows following Hiddinkís arrival as a replacement for the struggling Luiz Felipe Scolari. He is excited about the future and will make money available for more transfer activity at the end of the season.

He would love Hiddink to stay on as manager but knows that isnít possible. Instead he is prepared to go along with the appointment of 46-year-old Rijkaard, who won two La Liga titles and the Champions League at Barcelona.

Rijkaard has also managed the Dutch side and possesses all the credentials to continue Hiddinkís good work at the Bridge.

this performance was coming and that too very soon……after putting a series of decent results (surpisingly) this chelsea team decided that today we are gonna put up a lethargic performance…..I am not disapointed that we lost but am disheartened to see the effort and the intention of the players to win the match…..the first half performance was the worst I have rseen in recent times. …..did we start the game with the intention of winningit…..the answer to that is clearly no….

This is all happening because we have big heads at chelsea who are the ones who actually decide when they wanna play and when they dunt wanna and also because we repeatedly keep playing players who actually dont even deserve to be on the bench let alone starting the match…

Steve Mchahon at espnstar once made a wonderful comment…..he said “chelsea is a club where the players decide who the manager shall be and the manner in which they shall appraoch the game….whereas at manchester utd the manager decides the team and the manner in which they shall approach the game…..I cannot help but agree with steve on this one….he has actually hit the nail on the coffin and sealed the fate of chelsea….they are nothing else but a rich club who have clue about which direction they are heading for…..

BALLACK: he is slowly but steadily turning out to be a disease for the club….a disease if not cured at the earliest will leave no scope for treatment at a later point of time…..his performances now just make my skin crawl….some of his qualities include……he cannot keep hold of the ball, makes terrible challenges to win the ball back and not even succed in doing that, not effective in freekicks and does not have the legs to track back to help in defense….all in all he is just a liabilty for the club and will always be as long he stays at the club….i would get rid of this trash at the end of the season without any doubt…he has passed his prime and should be just kicked out from this club…

ALEX: I hope by now he realises that he is no franz beckenbaeur but he is just the lowsy brazilain alex…….if you watch soccer week in week out you will realise that he always without fail has mistakes in his game…..he is error prone and at times becomes allergic to keep the ball…..defintely not a starter for chelsea and I would not even let him play second fiddle to terry in the absense of riccy….i would probably give iva or michael more opportunties…….he is another player that chelsea should sell at the ealriest at a decent price and reduce further liabilties (write of bad debts) on chelsea balance sheet…

The other players include guys like deco, kalou, belleti, ferriera….ohhhh gosh the list is never ending…….this garbage cleaning will take some time for sure….

13. denver - 21st Mar

Replying to heyjose: Zhirkov is a better LB than cole…. he is no backup, he is a starter so just put him ahead of cole and the left will be complete

14. olu - 21st Mar

I’m need to express my views about the guus.
He’s done a better job than Felipao. Hell, he’s doing a good job. Scolari won’t have drawn Juventus if it guaranteed him heaven. However, I’m beginning to see some not so desirable traits. Ok, maybe Kalou’s bad, but he’s not worse than malouda. What am I saying? The records are there to show that Kalou is actually better than Malouda. We needed goals and he brought in some one who has not score all season leaving someone who has contributed goals on the Bench. Then what’s this Ballack for Mikel business. I mean ok the one’s got the long history while the other has recent reputatin. Seriously, I dont get it, and it’s not like the boy has been bad in the few games played under him, so for him not to make the bench? That’s puzzlin stuff. I agree totally with MOYO.

About the formation yesterday, I struggled to hold it down. The only thing I can say is we definitely started with a 4-4-2, with Belletti on the right and Lampard on the left. Bad, bad move. Bad experiment. The guy definitely reads this blog. Little wonder he has to use both Anelka and the Drogbs. Whereas in other matches he pulled him wide to the left, this time he played both of them down the middle. Of course, he’s satisfied those who think that with the quality of our midfield and the added presence of Essien, 2 midfielders will do. Well, there you saw it yesterday. 2 midfielders are definitel inadequate. 1st our central defenders are too slow and they need an extra man, plus Bosingwa will never track back.

Let’s look long and hard, the only team in the top 4 that plays 442 is arsenal and see how they struggle. Now look at Liverpool, they play with 2 defensive midfielders, which means when they put their mind to it, they will always conceed few goals. If we wanted to experiment, then we should have waited for a match at the Bridge. Nt one where Jenas and Palacious would be Ballack and Essiens opponents at the Lane.

So, I say the Guus needs to develop a spine, drop ballack, play Drogba alone up front or Anelka alone depending on the opposition. This is one experiment worth putting on your white coat for.

15. olu - 21st Mar

Pls, forgive the typoes. I didn’t go over my comment before submitting.
Also, I need to add that playing Lampard on the left is a waste of space. Someone raised the issue up in here and now, the result. Lampard is not Gerrard. Lampard is definitely better than Gerrard down the middle but he’s not as versatile. The only thing you can convert lampard to at this stage of his career is the DM role.

Putting him on the left explains why he had no impact thru out the first half yesterday

16. IwasMissingJose - 21st Mar

Forget the game guys, its not worth thinking too much about it. Most of us felt before the game that winning title is unrealistic this season. and even manager and players must have felt the same. Noone had expected manures to lose against fulham. we could have pushed them all through but still we´d have finish second or third (does it make that big difference?). Liverpool has advantage because they play today on sunday and they know the result. lets hope they can use this chance. I´m not that disappointed with this game.

17. IwasMissingJose - 21st Mar

and look, its not even half time and livepools have scored 3 goals!

18. CFCIR - 21st Mar

We must forget EPL ,we must be logical,we didnt deserve it ,in my opinion liverpool is deserve to be CHAMPIONS.They fucked all of the big teams,
and they are playing far better than every body, even UNITED.As i see liverpool for i think this is our chance to beat them>>>>>>0%
I know we can lose hope after a fucking defeat, but we must accept that our team didnt want to be champions, they were sleeping yesterday even after going one goal down.

19. IwasMissingJose - 21st Mar

that game is not over yet, but guys it reads we need a hell lots of improvement to cruise past livepool in CL.

20. DanaBlue - 21st Mar

Replying to olu: Very well spotted most of your comments. I just fear that the problem we have at present is sticking far deeper than immediately apparent. What if the problem is with the players and not the manager. Remember everything started out fantastic under the first 2 month with Scolari, then we all know what happened. New manager, did not loose the next 7-8 matches and in fact we were playing some fairly attractive football, but absolutely not convincing. Now that we have lost a game again, and especially in the manner we lost, I just fear that it might just start go down hill again. Lets not hope so, and that it was a one off yesterday.
Otherwise I think the team needs to be changed radically if we want to be one of the greatest clubs in Europe/World.

chelsea need to play really special to beat liverpool in the champions league and whats wrong with kalou he’s a good player and he also has scored a good amount of goals this season and in the game against liverpool in the champions league chelsea need to be careful against gerrard and torres especialy gerrard he just scored a hatrick this afternoon and i wish he came to chelsea in 2005 and im starting to think he proberly might just be one of the best players in the world or even the best and he is the current top scorer in the champions league with 7 goals

25. Jaz - 21st Mar

The bad feelings are creeping back in aren’t they guys, damm Liverpool put 5 past Villa, that is something to be proud of to be honest, they are building up on the momentum from last week and they looked even sharper and more lethal today. When the draw for CL was announced on friday I had a bad feeling about Liverpool and after our display yesterday and their display today that feeling has got 10 times worse. Gerrard hits a hatrick against a top team and that is something to be proud of. That takes his tally to 21 goals this season same as Anelka making them the joint top scorers in all competitions, as for Super Frank he has 16 goals this season and I was hoping he outscores Gerrard this season but it seems unlikely now. Now to the most important factor, Liverpool have pulled up their socks and are doing what we were in the first 15 games of the season, which makes them a highly dangerous team to face in CL, good thing is that we have 2 weeks off and Guus needs to work his magic with the team now, we need to be highly desciplined if we are to beat Liverpool. My biggest fears are Malouda, Bosingwa, Ballack, Alex and Anelka which practically sums up half of our team, their performances are becoming poorer by the day and at this rate Liverpool will simply pick us apart and embarass us in front of the whole world. We need atleast one trophy this season, even if it’s the FA cup im more than happy with it because I don’t think another fruitless season would do any justice to our team. Chelsea c’mon stand up and be counted, please don’t dissapoint us, play for the pride, play for the team, do us proud you blues!!

26. olu - 21st Mar

Replying to Danablue:

Well that’s a point. A valid one, I should add. It’s just that I find it hard to figure what could be wrong with the players. What could this deep lying rot be? Discontent, weariness, lack of motivation? What?

27. DanaBlue - 21st Mar

Replying to olu: I do not want to be too cynical, but a lot of the players do not have Chelsea in their heart and soul. To them its just another club to earn a living. Be it a very good way of living. I do not want to mention any names, because I know that everybody on this blog knows who I am talking about. And to be honest, whats the worst thing that can happen to those players, they just get passed on to another club.
So in order to answer your question, I think you answered it yourself.

28. JoseHoliday - 21st Mar

Just because Liverpool put 5 past A. V and 4 past R Madrid and MaNure doesnt have that bearing on the CL match with Chelsea !
Cos :
1. the past aint have that much to do with the future
2. Chelsea aint those teams
3. It’s a different type of tournament ( chelsea’s got 2 chances this time )
4. Liverfool will now have 2 rabbits to chase and more than half their attention will be on the premiership which they covet more than the CL
5. They dont have that big a squad and the league, international games are gonna take their toll b4 the match with us.
6. Maybe they have peaked

29. Jo - 21st Mar

Man…this is disappointing…we must improve and play like a champion…liverpool is currently on superd form…and they have fast players…chelsea must improve

30. IwasMissingJose - 21st Mar

Replying to JoseHoliday:

Liverpool may have peaked, but i don´t see any team playing better than them currently and near future. they displayed flawless performances in last consecutive 4 matches and scored 13 goals in 3 and Rafa is not still happy with the perfomance!!! Besides Liverpool always give their extra thing in CL, so its really going to be our toughest match this season. I´m not saying its impossible for us to defeat them, but looking at the way they are playing (pace, strength and accuracy), i don´t want our team to concede 4 goals in anfield and hope to overpower them in Stamford Bridge. We got to do hell lot better than we are playing currently.

31. chelsito - 21st Mar

The reason for this slow, dumb performance by chelsea is our inability to kick out the famed deadwoods. I don’t know why Guus is trying to fit these over-rated old stars even if they don’t suit the formation we play in. I have always told that Anelka and Drogba cant play together with one playing wide in the flank. Ballack playing DM is a mockery of him and the position itself. Bosingwa is a better attacking option than a wingback. Quaresma was poor and for the first time made me think ‘Jose was right to transfer him’. The team needs to be provided the desperately needed width and speed factor. So I believe this could solve our problems:
—————————–Cech————————————
Manciene———Terry—————Carvalho—————cole
—————————–Mikel————————————
————–Essien———————-Lampard——————
Bosingwa——————————————————Kalou
—————————-Drogba———————————–

Bosingwa could be trusted to provide those searching crosses (he also sometimes easily takes out one or 2 defenders). And his defensive inabilities could better be solved by Manciene. The only problem with Boswinga are his shoots. So might be Stoch can fill in the place. But I didn’t include him since the remaining matches are too crucial to test a young lad.

32. IwasMissingJose - 21st Mar

Replying to chelsito:
yep, i am thinking the same, except that i want to see now Anelka playing striker and Drogba playing wide. Anelka has a better and accurate finishing than DD this season. and on the other hand DD can give good assists. so my formation would be 4-1-2-2-1

————————————-Cech————————————-

-Mancienne————–terry——————Carvalho————–cole-

————————————Mikel————————————–

———-Essien———————————————-Lampard—-

———————Bosingwa———————–DD———————–

———————————Anelka————————————

let Bosingwa be leonel messi. I´d trust him in offence than in defence. he can cross well and has pace, but he´s a terrible defender.

Anelka is out for 3 weeks, meaning he will miss Liverpool (CL Leg1) and Bolton (EPL). Good news or bad news, you decide. I personally felt that the international break comes in our favor as we need to regroup and refresh for the CL clash. This also means that ManUnited gets to regroup too from their free-falling form. All we can wish for is that we do not add more injuries to our squad in this crucial stage. KTBFFH!!!

34. churchill - 21st Mar

just drop bosingwa from the squad completely. we dont have time to be experimenting anymore. guus should play what he has been playing, because it was working. you know what they say, if it aint broke…

38. heyjose - 21st Mar

when it comes to big games keep drog on as striker only

39. TruePlatinum - 21st Mar

a big thin that everyone agreed on earlier in the season, was that alot of our players don’t have love for the club and are in fact looking for their next paycheque
looking at the second half, I don’t think we truly deserved a loss, a draw would have been more reflective, considering the domination we asserted
I hate the way we seem to go quiet until we conceed a goal, drive the opposition to a 2 goal deficit, then sit back….slightly

as for the formation problems, I was surprised at lampard in the left of midfield although I can understand why, with our team being the way it is, 4-4-2 isn’t really too good, and you don’t want lampard in a holding role. I like the idea of ballack and mikel holding in order to release essien and lampard

Arsenal struggle because they lack organisation and different types of players, they have no wingers so the wingbacks have a big job to do, their midfield is mostly attack minded, the strikers are inconsistent, fabregas usually solves those problems but not anymore

liverpool play with one defensive midfielder, gerrard has a free role and xabi alonso is put anywhere, liverpool win because they work hard, but working hard doesn’t always win games as we see so often in football.

I said that the team who won the last game between man utd and chelsea would win the premiership, i stand by that statement

41. Sunny - 21st Mar

This chelsea squad had no future and wil be struggling to even to finish fourth if we still stick with these players…..chelsea liabilties..

1. Ballack: The biggest liability in world soccer….can do nothing right at this moment in time…..needs to kicked out asap.

2. Drogba: Has the talent but the worst attitude that one can think of…..should have been sold long time back and if the club has some common sense then sell him this summer before he infects the club further with his sulking nature…..i dunt care what he does on the field but playerswith the right attitide dunt deserve to be at this club..

3. Deco: an absolute rubbish buy….a barcelona reject and an aged guy just good enough to pick up a nice pension plan for himself and nothing else….needs to be shown the door.

4. Kalou: certified and proven wasteful signing…not a problem..things like these happen in life….but time to correct mistakes…sell him before he ensures chelsea play for the UEFA cup and not the champions league.

5. Bonsingwa: He thinks he is messi when he is going forward….this moron needs areality check….hinestly he is good going forward but when it comes to genuine defending I am sure to say that he is pathetic…the right back position still remains a problem for the club and it seems it will always remain one beacuse even he is not a solution….

6. Alex: this heavy and big guy puts in no perforamce as compared to his size….maybe he should try his luck in contact sport because he surely is not even good enough to be a squad player at chelsea let alone a starting position…..makes too many mistakes and always has couple of mistakes in every single match that he plays for the club…he is the weak link in the line up when the opponents see hi name on the sheet….

ALL in all honestly…..we are just a rich club with no direction, vision or stability in life……this could be the reason why we will never be like liverpool, arsenal; or man utd…we have no history like them and will never have it…..maybe the back too back titles was won not because we played well but beacuse the others didnt play to their potential….that opportunity will never come back atleast with this squad of players for some years to come now….

42. heyjose - 21st Mar

drog can still knick in important goals agaist big teams groom a striker who can replace him then replace him play drogba with that new striker
get another striker as well no use of anelka then in big games keep him if he is ready to plat ony agaist weak teams

43. heyjose - 21st Mar

Replying to Sunny:
You have crossed the height of pessimism.

For those who feel our squad is too bad :
Take a look at the ‘Dumb’ Chelsea and the ‘Mighty’ Liverfool. (Count the ticks you have put to the better players in chelsea)
1) Cech – Reina
2) Carvalho – Carragher
3) Terry – Hypia or Skrtel (Take them together, but they still won’t stand a chance)
4) A. cole – Aurelio
5) Bosingwa – Arbeloa
6) Mikel – Mascherano
7) Lampard – Gerrard 8) Essien – Alonso
9) Quaresma – Kuyt
10) Kalou – Riera
11) Drogba – Torres

‘Mighty’ my foot. I have better players in Chelsea bench who can take many of the Lfool players on a ride. So guys don’t moan over our player potential.
Its the team selection and don’t care attitude of some players that are our current problems. By team selection, I mean the right mix of players who can add that extra gear. Hope Guus understands that the players are made for Chelsea and not the other way. And he kicks out those who think the other way.

47. vovka - 21st Mar

Now we are to see what happens. I did not want to come it so early but honestly Tottenham was exactly the team that could beat us – not a big game in terms of our and theirs ambitions, but in good form just now and – moreover – a London derby. Guus is now to show what he can do – easy to lead the team that wins, much more difficult to turn things round. Yep, he did it already when he came to this club – but that was only his receipt for the crisis made by somebody else. Now he found his limits – is he able to make changes to get back to winning?

I am really looking forward to the next game. Unfornutaly, there is a nation-teams break coming now. I hope it can help Guus and his team. Unfortunately, he cannot be with Chelsea players now, but anyway this can give a rest to overworked players and a time to Guus to make up something new.

I think this formation is un-real lampard and quaresma will put in deadly crosses which anelka, ballack and essien to score.
It has a strong midfeald a thick defence and a class attack. This cuold be a very sucsesful formation.

49. israeli - 21st Mar

Scoring 1 goal per game will take this team nowhere,
that’s so poor , even JM’s team scored more.
Winning 4 games by one goal shows that there is no change, only a bit more spirit that comes with winning.

chelsea vs. ac milan
july 24 in my hometown Baltimore, MD, USA
not a bad matchup

51. TruePlatinum - 21st Mar

if you provide anelka, he will usually finish, but be aware, he plays better running from the shoulder of defenders and so needs another striker who likes having his back to the goal, its been said before, we are pushing the cylinder where the triangular prism should go

We are more than capable of beating liverpool. Liverpool have captured some sort of relentless form, its hard to say because liverpool have so many holes but are strong in critical positions, I mean liverpool don’t have a great keeper, they don’t have good fullbacks nor wingers, but they can play a direct game because they are strong all the way down the middle of the pitch

the liverpool game will be a big test to see who really loves the club
I don’t 100% agree with all the bosingwa comments, I did say when I found out we signed him, we’d have trouble because I did not like what I saw at euro 2008
but he has added an extra dimension to the team and with the correct coaching, he will do well, I think i had said in an earlier blog, I’d like to see him and belletti interchange in advanced positions but I wouldn’t quite trust bosingwa to keep running at defenders with the same two tricks

I have faith hiddink will bring us through our anfield adventure

Liverfool will be very pumped up, superconfident motivated and in search of a comprehensive win like against ManUre and Real when facing Chelsea come April.

Their fans at Anfield will also be expecting a super performance and a thrashing of Chelsea in the first leg, so the team will be egged on to attack , attack and attack time and time again. Whatever Fat Rafa’s speeches on being cautious etc will be thrown to the winds when the game starts.

I believe that if Chelsea holds out for the first 20 mins and counterattacks intelligently, mixes the long ball and crosses into their box enough we make get an away goal / win.

Bunch of cool heads on the field and off it ( in the stands) wll get us through.

I hope chelsea take all the game seriously and win all the matches.

Thanks BC, I almost quit posting comments as I really do not need funny replies from Pluto…

As many of you been busy listing out the potential signings, I’m pondering on the “Who’s the next gaffer?” question. I hate the fact that Guus is not committing to stay and we might go through the whole saga again at the end of this season. And the likes of Scolari’s dejavu management creeps into my mind really makes me worried about the future of Chelsea…..*sigh*…..

In the meantime…. cannot wait to go to Antfield and wake those dreamers up with a huge tight slap to their face. If there is only one English team that can does that, it has got to be CHELSEA. KTBFFH!!!

77. MatBlue - 21st Mar

For the gaffer i think the Blues Hierarchy should go for Rijkaard. Rijkaard can manage the boys. Remember Rijkaard built the Barca winning team from scratch. He encourages the introduction of young talent ie Geovani Dos santos, Bojan he even gave Messi his Barca debut at 16. He can also attract players to the club. He is relatively young , so ideal for the long term too. He is also a proven winner. He also speaks decent English. Yes, he may have his flaws too, but who doesn’t? This is my pitch for Rijkaard, anyone think otherwise, let’s hear it . Guus has done well, now it’s time for rebuilding and some stability. Chelsea needs a footballing philosophy and we can start that through Rijkaard

78. MatBlue - 21st Mar

Surely we must get Silva, him or Ribery but Silva is the more realistic target. Rafa already has Riera.

79. TruePlatinum - 21st Mar

matblue and niju chandran both make good points. To be perfectly honest, with guus at the helm now, I wholeheartedly hope and expect rijkaard to be brought in, I can’t see it going any other way

in terms of the off season targets, there is a rebuild, I expect us to lose Ivanovic and get rid of Belletti, deco, kalou, malouda and mineiro
as the team stands, we have 2 keepers, 7 defenders, 5 central midfielders, 2 wingers and 4 strikers

im not sure what happened to storari, but nonetheless, we will propbably promote rhys taylor a little more, we will be bringing in a left back but he would be a proven one of less ability than ashley cole, someone like chivu, capdevila, sylvinho? just someone to hold the fort

i think we are certain to see zhirkov at the bridge, that provides cover on the entire left flank

i wouldn’t put it past us to keep quaresma on at the bridge or find someone similar
to everyone who is screaming for lennon, behave, lennon may be quick, and can skip defenders, but is poor at passing the ball and with our style of play, we cant have that, he would be an even smaller swp, ashley young on the other hand, i would welcome

taye taiwo could be another possible face

van der vaart, I’d be quite happy to have him here

and strike wise, we need a real third man, he needs to be tall and strong, quick and a good finisher, he needs to pass and control, names id like to see mario balotelli-barwuah, mario gomez, as for who we’d get, don’t have a clue

80. TruePlatinum - 21st Mar

oh just to add, one thing that is really bothering me, out of all the players listed, only one is english
this i reflective of the football world today

82. Jaz - 21st Mar

The next gaffer should be Rijkaard in my opinion, mainly because he has Champions League pedigree and knows how to win titles and work with big names, also he can attract some high class players to Chelsea. It’s simply in Dutch blood to produce good footballers and coaches, but the best thing about Rijkaard is his vision for younger players. He is somewhat a “Arsene Wenger” mould who can build his team based on power, pace, expereince and the mental ability and some of those factors are certainly missing at Chelsea. He would most definetly get the best out of Stoch, Di Santo, Sinclair, Woods, Tejeira, Kakuta, Cork and Mancienne and will continue to bring through the next generation of Chelsea stars.

Realistically we have to change the structure of the current Chelsea squad because it is one thing being positive and another being blind. At the moment most of us are fooling ourselves to beleive we can win it all when the reality is we are not good enough to compete with Liverpool, Utd and Arsenal, hell even Spurs have better talent than some of our squad. Im not being picky but for next season we have to let go of Deco, Ballack, Malouda, Belletti, Minerio and Anelka or Drogba. Players such as Ivanovic are most likely to leave and maybe Alex and Ferreira aswell, which means we need to buy a central defender along with promoting Mancienne. Scheva and Pizzaro are no good to Chelsea aswell, which clearly means the squad needs some fresh blood. Drenthe, Zhirkov, Quaresma, Van Der Vaart, Diego, Ribbery, Aguero, Benzema, David Silva, David Villa are the names we should try and bring (not all of them obviouslly). We need a blend of 7 Midfeilders and 3 Strikers with 6 Defenders and 2 Goal Keepers to keep the squad fresh. This will also give the gaffer the option to change the game on wish, which at the moment with our current squad is impossible to do.

83. heyjose - 21st Mar

well i think we should try player only between 21 to 26 only other only exceptional who have 6 good year left int hrm to play at their best level

84. heyjose - 21st Mar

young blood +lamps +essien+terry+cech+drogba can lead us to titles

thats a rock solid mid field by way!!!
issue however would be – if we get VDV.. we couldnt go for diego
it just seems link a over load to me. but you have great eye for talent though

86. bluefanforever - 21st Mar

i just hope Gus dsnt make changes to the team…buys like 5 new guys (who ever)..and then leaves midway….for the next coach to come and say..i dint want these players….etc etc…im my opinion every coach has their own unique style of footballing…..training …motivating..etc….and chelsea would need the long term coach (if we are planning to get one) to decide who comes and goes…not Gus…(if hes gna leave)

87. denver - 21st Mar

Replying to TruePlatinum: I like the big german (gomez)but i think i like Podolski more
for the LB we could go for Real madrids LB Marcelo (brazillian i think) but maybe Yuri could double there

88. IwasMissingJose - 21st Mar

Replying to bluefanforever:

i don´t think that would be that big problem this season. All guus would do is help find and convice talents to sign for chelsea. I´m sure the manager would have more say on this matter. and if its true that Rijkaard is coming, then it would be lot easier, as both have similar style of play and understanding.

89. Jaz - 21st Mar

Denver my friend I was’nt saying lets buy them all lol, I was only saying if we want to improve on the current squad with new international players then those should be the names we should be considering because they fit the mould of Chelsea players, big, strong, aggresive and passionate for football at the same time. Peronally I would offload alteast 7/8 players from the current Chelsea squad and start from a fresh start because lets face it we do need a fresh start. I say we should do all our shopping before the pre-season so that the new team can gel together and the gaffer can impose his style of play on the team. Another thing that people seem to be asking is, why is Guus buying new players when he wont be staying, well dear friends football isn’t that hard to understand. The new Chelsea manager has most likely already signed the contract and Guus is simply playing the middle man (that’s if he himself is not the permanent manager) and buying + attracting all the new players (because of his reputation) and once all this is done and dusted the new manager will be introduced + I beleive Guus will stay at Chelsea as the Director of Football which is always a good news because this way our accademy will also prosper.

90. TruePlatinum - 21st Mar

denver, i have the exact same ideas as you, but i think we are less likely to see podolski due to his inconsistence but i would be so happy to have him i wouldnt care too much
marcelo is brazillian, id be happy to have him although he isnt the strongest of defenders, only thing with that is hed be looking for game time and im not too sure hed get much with zhirkov set to come in

im sure good things are coming this summer

91. heyjose - 21st Mar

guus as consultant would be great and having raikaard as manager will be great as well our future will be bright
