Short post today. The big news is that an Arab and a German syndicate is offering to buy Chelsea FC from Roman. My first thought is that Roman won’t sell Chelsea, at least not so soon. Roman loves football and Chelsea FC. Though buying a football club must have been an interesting business proposition, he bought a football club because he had grown the love for the game. Having won so much in his business, he wanted to win somewhere else. He loved football so buying a football club was the natural thing to do.

It is for his love of football Roman should continue to own Chelsea FC. Read what Holger Haim, the man who runs the syndicte, has to say about the probable Chelsea deal:

I don’t believe anything is not for sale if you come up with the right price. We have looked at some European clubs to see if the numbers added up, and now we’re doing the same with Chelsea. I can’t go into more details at this stage. It’s not about trying about to buy a football club but about a business. You don’t make money because 11 guys run around the pitch, you make money because of all the other commercial aspects that go with a football club, particularly real estate and television rights.

Does not sound like a person who appreciates the game, does he? What kind of owner would say ‘you don’t make money because 11 guys run around the pitch’, no matter how true it is. Roman will not sell Chelsea FC. Period.

Okay, let’s talk about the match tomorrow. FA Cup fourth round. Ipswich it is. There’s no John Terry. So we can concede from a corner and say there was no Terry to organise the defence. Positives. Positives. We are on a winning run, aren’t we? Nobody gives Ipswich a chance but their manager thinks ‘why not’.

Burnley’s been great for football [winning at Stamford Bridge in the Carling Cup], so it can be done. The good thing is we’ll get a chance to play good football but at times we’re going to have work our socks off to get it back off them. We want the fans to go there and give them something to shout about, but the reality is it’s a very difficult game.

Strangely, whatever he says applies to us too. So I say, the good thing is we’ll get a chance to play good football but at times we’re going to have work our socks off to get it back off them. We want the fans to go there and give them something to shout about, but the reality is it’s a very difficult game. I’m happy with a 2-1. Cleansheet? Nah. 2-1.
