Felt like a 900-minute match. I don’t remember when Chelsea was last humiliated like this before. When was the last time we lost by a three-goal margin to a rival? This has to be the biggest Chelsea defeat of recent times. We did not deserve a point, leave alone a win. There was no desire, no hunger, no determination and no feeling of guilt. We produced nothing. We made the same defensive errors. We did not even trouble van der Sar. Did he even touch the ball? Scolari’s job is not at all safe. I’m sorry. I have no sympathy for Scolari. With what we have seen so far, he has failed and refuses to learn from his failures.

Surely this result does not have anything to do with Robinho not joining us. It does not have to do with one Essien missing in our team. It does not have to do with players being in their late 20s and early 30s. It does not have to do with us not having any dribbling playmakers. So, the fact is Scolari has run out of excuses and this defeat is so bad that he simply can’t make any excuses. Like many times under his regime, we failed to create one decent chance in a match of 90 minutes. And we managed to concede three goals while we had Cech, Terry, Carvalho, Ashley Cole, Bosingwa and Mikel. Can there be any excuses?

Yes, Drogba was useless today. He must not have played 90 minutes and still he was persisted. Anelka came in but did not play as a striker. Joe Cole must have been gone with Drogba by half time. Kalou should have come on instead of Belletti. Our 4-1-4-1 was found out months back by all our rivals and opponents. Fergie must have been happy to know that Drogba and Anelka were not starting in a 4-4-2. He must have even jumped for joy that we are playing our 4-1-4-1. I thought Scolari is a poor tactician but I must say he is a disaster, tactically. Man Utd had Evans, Neville, Fletcher, Park and Giggs; and we lost to them 3-0? Fergie didn’t even have to use Tevez! And we played one of our strongest team with Cech, Terry, Carvalho, Ashley Cole, Bosingwa, Mikel, Lampard, Ballack, Deco, Joe Cole and Drogba!

I think this is one of the worst Chelsea performances and defeats in Roman’s era. The scoreline is very humiliating. The performance was even more humiliating. Like the club website says, we let three goals in three crosses, two of them from set pieces. In fact, Man Utd had a legitimate goal from a corner ruled out. Our set piece defending is still awful. I wonder why we don’t learn from those obvious mistakes. I can’t believe that our defence consisting of Cech, Terry, Carvalho, Bosingwa, Ashley Cole and Mikel can be so poor? They can’t be. Not all of them and not so often. Something is fundamentally wrong. Very wrong.

We did not have one decent chance on goal. I can’t even count us unlucky or anything. While players like Drogba and Joe Cole were terrible, I have to say we created nothing. There was simply no supply at all. To be exact, there was ONE shot on goal and even that one was a pop. Such is our state, when Man Utd went up, I was sure that we’re going to be defeated. I was hoping that I would be proved wrong but not to be. After Man Utd scored their second goal, the game was over even though 30 minutes were still to be played. There was no Chelsea onslaught. Chelsea did not feel insulted or humiliated. There was still no urgency and desparation. Instead, what we saw was just dropped shoulders and unhurt egos.

Scolari admitted that this defeat has done a huge damage to our confidence:

I think it’s done big damage, very big damage [to our confidence] because we didn’t come here to play for this situation. We were thinking about winning the game but now we need to think about the result and what has happened with some of our players and some of our defending at set-plays. We definitely need to change something in the future.

If he talks about some of our players and some of our defending, then he’s talking about most of our team. There are too many things going wrong in some alarming frequency. Has he lost the dressing room? The next few days could be very revealing. Finally, he admits that he needs to change something. I wonder what he has in his mind when he talk about ‘change’?

I think we lost our confidence when we lost against Liverpool and we have gone downhill since then. This match, this result and this admission from Scolari is a milestone in his short Chelsea career. I’m almost certain that Scolari would never resolve our problem. That’s because he himself has been our problem or at least the root cause of most of our problems. It is primarily his job to bring the best out of his players, make them play to their potential, keep their feet on the ground and keep them motivated and inspired. If he doesn’t these things well, he would be our problem.

Yesterday, I was watching the season review DVD of the season 05-06. That was the second title-winning season under Jose Mourinho. That was a different Chelsea. We struck fear in all our rivals. We were ruthless, determined and we would kill to win. We would not concede that easil and if we did, we would come back like wounded animals. About one-third of our goals were from set pieces. I don’t remember conceding any from a set piece. We had organisation, discipline, team work. And we had Jose Mourinho. That’s a distant past. In another week or so, we could be in the third place and fighting with Aston Villa for the third place. With another 17 matches to go, that’s no situation to be doom and gloom. But as I have mentioned before, I don’t see any promise with Scolari. He has not improved us in any aspect. Under him, Chelsea has become weaker, undoubtedly. I don’t think you’d ask for a proof anymore. We have Southend United on Wednesday. Should I be worried about that match? How lower should my expectations be?
