I didn’t watch the live telecast of this match. Watching a recorded match is always a bit different. You know the result so you’re neither hysterical at possession lost in dangerous areas nor too nervous in the dying moments. You can look at the game much more tactically and which most probably results in you being overly critical armed with the power of hindsight. May be because of that, I wasn’t too impressed with the performance in this match. We scored two good goals, we won the match but we were shaky. A better opponent would have punished us. What do you say?
Supposedly, all our problems are in attack and in chance creation. But then, why was our defence so shaky? I need to include Petr Cech as well here. We looked like we were always only just clear of conceding. Luckily, Bolton did not have the players to cause us any damage. You saw Petr Cech passing straight to Kevin Nolan and that resulted in no damage. Picture Samuel Eto’o or Fernando Torres or Dmitar Berbatov in place of Nolan there. There were a lot of stray passes and intercepted passes which again did not come back and haunt us. I was for a moment thinking that, we play practically the same way, same style and same intensity with all teams and it’s a matter of the quality of the opposition on that day whether we win or draw or lose. I know it’s very cruel to make a statement like that but that’s what flashed across my mind. I want you guys to confirm or challenge this.
Anelka continues his scoring run. Credit to him. His movement for the goal was top class and his finish could have been a bit better as he was unmarked and also had all the time. Anyway, good goal by Anelka. Second one was a classic scissors kick by Deco. Was this Deco’s first scissors kick goal of his career? That’s for the trivia. Deco rightfully thanked Ballack for his smart header to find the unmarked Deco. Both our goals were very good but one fact that does not escape my notice is that they were very poorly defended too. I’m happy for Deco. It’s not often that one is the worst player and the best player in two consecutive matches. He surely has realised how bad he was against Arsenal and he went out to prove a point in this match.
Drogba has now served his suspension. Scolari now has the kind of player that brings something new to the team’s playing style and plan. I’m keen to see how he is going to use Drogba and Anelka and how would he line up the midfield. He may not drop Mikel for he has been the most consistent and the prime reason behind our defensive record this season. He may not drop BBC London Player of the Year 2008 for he has a hand (or foot?) in most of the goals that were scored by us this season. The next two places can be taken by any two of Ballack, Deco, Malouda and Kalou. You might be quick to say that it would be Ballack and Deco, mostly to exclude Malouda and Kalou. Trust me, that may not be the case. With Mikel, Lampard, Ballack and Deco, you don’t get pace or width. Add to that, our strikers are also on the slower side. Kalou or Malouda might get a nod.
By the way, there is a sweet little controversy. Scolari, in the Chelsea fans forum meet, has mentioned something about the need for new players and Chelsea FC has blacked out those comments in the official website. This is what Scolari said:
I think the board know it, I know it and the fans know it. We need one or two more players to put in the team and if we get them then we are in good condition to win trophies at the end of the season and, if not, there might be problems. If we have two more players in the squad, we will have a good chance.
I have a feeling that Roman won’t disappoint Scolari. He might just sanction the funds. I have a strong feeling.
For quite some time, we have been saying that we should put on a winning run. Everytime we think we have started a winning run, we have lost or drawn. We play Cluj on Tuesday. We simply need to win. Draw might also be a useful result but if we don’t top the table, we might have to play the any of the group toppers. Teams across Europe have all strengthened very well. I wouldn’t want to play teams like Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus etc when we don’t have an in-form Drogba or Essien in our team. We need to beat Cluj and if we are unable to beat a tam like Cluj under such kind of pressure, may be we have no business of playing in Champions League.
I see how this match reaction post has turned into a match preview post. Given that we’ve got just two days for the Cluj match, we should be talking about it already!

Haha…spot on BC ! Our team looked a bit vulnerable in defence but since Bolton didnt capitalize, we managed to pull through with a clean sheet. Bolton usually are good with aerial balls and except for Petr Cech, who had a rather indifferent game, our defence handled the long ball situation rather well.
Oh and uhh…did you manage to see the ManU game ?? Haha, heard they scrambled through a 1-0 thanks to a Vidic goal..boy..4 strikers in the team cant get a goal through and they needed Vidic fr a goal ?
About the Cluj game, i hope we take early control of the game, jump on opportunities provided and hey, ill be happy with a scrambled-in goal too evn if it is ”ugly football”…we were too defensive early up in romania..if we can show ‘em who’s boss early up, we can win…Up Blues !
hey guys can you imagine us to face BARCELONA in the next round
Nic keeping his scoring spree on, Deco scoring (boost up his confedent) and the 2-0 win are the positiv out of the game yesterday.
But we should hold our own in defence. right now thats not even near to were we should be. I think its a vary of things, style of play, ppl on the injury list. or maybe its something else. I cant really put a finger on it.
Am glad Cech had that one bad game out of his system lol, but he had a superb reaction save in the end that was very important.
lamps didnt have a bad game, but its been awhile he had superb ones. I think it will do him well to rest against cluj. and it will give the team, to prove themselfs. I got this cocky feeling that we will easly beat cluj so am not worried. BUT I know also that we cant just get out on the pitch but ratherly put a great effort into it. but believe me till we score the first goal, we gotta score the first goal and that very early, am gonna be really nervous.
I saw the Man u vs. Sunderland yesterday. The 1-0 dont justify the game. specialy the first half, I have never seen a one sided game, ever! Man u looks really good. its funny thought that we arent the only one havin a problem agains teams who play 11 men behind the ball.
All that Scolari needs to do is to believe that he has excellent players who can play different formations, and to spend more time in training trying different things out than just praying…..

What an absolute tw@t you are. What kind of a statement is that about our manager? FFs , go support Inter Milan if you miss Jose so much.

If its not that way, why does he keep on saying that we don´t have players who can execute Plan B? I´m sorry if it hurts you, but I speak the truth. He doesn´t believe in our players, thats why he wants Robinho. Oh let me make it worse, he wants all Brazilian players……I don´t know if you guys realised it or not, there is a very low morale in our team because coach has no faith in his team. Watch the videos ten times, watch his expressions, doesn´t he seem frustrated easily?
I´m sorry mate, your´coach has failed to impress me so far. I already support Inter Milan, you don´t have to tell me that, but i want Chelsea to succeed.
Chelsea must beat cluj with 4 goals to get back its spirit in the Champions League . I hope we get Bayern in the next round.
Scolari must improve chelsea corner tactics . We are very useless in the corner and also too weak in the set pieces.
Kalou must know that he is playing like a shit . his controls and dribbles are too poor that every fool can defend it.
WITH FIVE GOLDEN CHANCES, CHELSEA SCORED ONLY 2 GOALS.
Silent game, but could have gone worse. All the attention now turns towards UCL. Beat Cluj or Get Out. My biggest fear at the moment is that its a home game for us :)
Btw, if you just missed the everton-villa match, sure you had lost experiencing the thriller of the weekend. I see villa as chelsea under jose, never give up attitude.
I saw the Everton vs Aston Villa match. What a match it was! Matches like these make me realise what Chelsea is now missing. Did you see how badly Everton wanted that equaliser? Did you see their relentless onslaught and tactical bombs to get that equaliser? And because of the way they played, they got the crowd going. The crowd rooted for them because the players played with all their heart. What can I say about Ashley Young? It was the 93rd minute of the match and he raced away like an F1 car! Villa/Young wanted the three points, they absolutely wanted it. There were just 20 seconds to go but Young needed just 10 of them to score that spectacular winner! Amazing match that’s a great advertisement for premier league.
We just need those virtues back that are the hallmark of the Chelsea team – spirit, determination, killer instinct, ruthlessness and never-say-die attitude.

If you are an Internazionale fan who was a Chelsea fan before because of Jose, then thank God Chelsea is rid of such a plastic glory hunting fan like yourself. And what do you mean Scolari doesnt believe in “our” players, which players are you talking about? Ibrahimovic and Balotelli? Scolari is frustrated easily because that is his nature. Even when we were 3-0 up against portsmouth he was still fuming when we failed to put our chances away. Its called “passion” , i guess fans like you dont know what that is. Im sure at the end of the season when we have some trophies youl come back to supporting Chelsea again.
I look forward to meeting you in the CL round of 16.
Good day
ps. Good article BC

Good to know you are following Inter games, they are playing wonderful football. ;)
and i take your lines
” Scolari is frustrated easily because that is his nature. Even when we were 3-0 up against portsmouth he was still fuming when we failed to put our chances away.”
You got it spot on mate, he is a coach who is always frustrated and knows not what to do……He´s frustrated even when we are 3 -0 up shows, he´s a fool; a wise one would slow down the game, rather than trying to score another 3.
And you´re telling me that Chelsea gonna win cups with these kinds of performance, then you are dreaming mate or you´ven´t watched any Chelsea game live; You are merely speaking on the end score.
To wake you up, Chelsea couldn´t win against the top 3, Roma , Bordeaux and Cluj, and Chelsea may not even make to quarter-finals if bordeaux win against Roma and we draw against Cluj!
But anyway i know lots of passionate fans like you who do lots of drinking rather than thinking. Even if Chelsea won´t win any cups in the end, guys like me would be shouting out aloud what went wrong. On the otherhand, “passionate” fans like you would praying for better luck next time….

They have not lost in 20 matches going into el clasico

LOL no son i havnt been watching Inter. And Italian football and “good” should not be used in the same sentence. A league of geriatrics for geriatrics. And why are you still saying “we” when referring to Chelsea. Arent you a Jose/Inter fan? Why do you care what happens in Chelsea? If your here to mock Chelsea and Scolari, then say so without the hypocritical glory hunting “we” or “us”. Your not a chelsea supporter. I bet you didnt even know what Chelsea was pre abramovich. You have a right to criticise Chelsea since this forum isnt exclusively for Chelsea fans, but I wonder why you dont spend much time on any Inter forums? Bet the Italian fans think your a right twat there aswell.
And for your information, I dont drink.
Good day glory hunter.
@11. IwasMissingJose
YOU need to chill mate, if you support inter thats cool but stop the bashing of blue-mates.
YEA Jose is TSO. Inter are cool but remember they have the same amount of points as us. and remember they would be in a lil problem if it wouldnt have been for the other game were W B scored at the end to even the game at 2-2. HAVE chelsea been great soo far? no, but we still in it and what should scare everyone is that we are just about to start heating up. am sure no one in inter plus TSO wanna play chelsea. About LSF, well he have a very different approach to coaching then others.
I have seen inter play a few times and am not that impressed. they got a great team though. and wit TSO he can do magic we know that. but what happens when they fail to win the CL and he get sacked or just dont feel inter anymore? will you be a Man city fan if he goes there????
@8. Oh My Blue
I missed that one. but I saw the hightlights and damn wat a finish by YOUNG. Thats wat we need at chelsea young talented guys. not yesterdays superstars.
I saw the Madrid vs. Sevila game. What a awesome game it was and wat a great score at the end. sevila 4 madrid 3. Robben was feeling it but he got sent off for two yellow cards. I always liked robben. nice to se him do well. but I have Madrid on my hit list cause of what they said and did this summa. so I was really pleased to se them lose, bastards.
Barca yesterday, ma gosh. they didnt even have eto’o and still won by 4-0 agains valancia. Their new coach knew exactly what to do when he took ova, he got rid of the old farts lol
and now they have a super mix of supertalented players and stars. I would say right now they have the best finesher in the game (eto’o) the best midfielder (xavi) and overall best player (messi). and I rate valdes as their weakest link, but he is actually had great year so far hehe.
Will se what happens in feb when they play agains the other big teams in europa cause right now they havent been tested fully.

Yes, it was a very good match. I am really impressed by Villa from the time they beat Chelsea. And in last 2 years, they are turing into an amazing lot. As i have already said, i will not be surprised if I see Villa playing in UCL next season. Villa to topple Arselol out of top 4.
Abonglar is the best striker in the slot 2. i mean you talk about torres, berbatov and they all belong to slot 1. They play in top 4 teams, but this guy plays quietly and sure impresses everyone. I think capello has already noticed his talents.
Any news about Owen. I heard that he is leaving Toon in jan. May be we could get his services cheaply. And clarify me, did we sell Sheva or did we just loaned him out?
Deco was absolutely world class on the weekend. We must beat Cluj and I believe we will. The players know how important it is and they will be at their best. Come visit me at http://chelsea.consejocorp.com
we wasted alot of opportunities, we should have punished bolton with 5 or 6 goals, thats what man utd would have done, I don’t ever want to see us play like this again

Thanks mate, thats what i wanted to say as well. I didn´t come to this site to praise Mourinho, and i didn´t even speak anything about Inter in my comments earlier. This was that fanatic ChelseaChelsea guy who brought that topic and started the fight. Teach him that i can be a chelsea fan in England, Inter fan in Italy, Real Madrid fan in Spain at the same time, because i do not hail from almighty GB and its capital London. And i have power to be critical when i smell something wrong and praise when something is praiseworthy.
and for you @ChelseaChelsea guy,
i´ve already told in earlier posts, I didn´t knew chelsea pre Mourinho era, forget about during Rainieri or RA. I didn´t care much about EPL at all before him. But now i am a Chelsea fan, and digest it even if you don´t like people like me, there are thousands of us abroad.
It was always going to be a physical battle – Bolton play that way. Look at the crude challenges by Davies on Ashley and McCann on Bossie.
Apart from Davies’s header in the opening minutes I thought JT and Alex did very well. Cech though gave me jitters with his kicking. I think he changed his boots at half-time. We coasted the first half but had to battle in the 2nd and we still played a lot of good football.
Deco really should have put the game beyond doubt when he broke clear and sliced his shot wide, but other than that the victory was very enjoyable and the journey home was a very quick one.
I am more worried about Tuesday night. Although Cluj have suffered in recent CL games, the longer the game goes on tomorrow nite without Chelsea scoring, the jitters will set in and don’t forget Super Frank is suspended after being sent off in France.
oh the Glorious Unpredictability!!!
Boy BC you are spot on about the Everton / Villa game. That was the best game I have seen all year (and the best last 15 min I have seen in several years). I’ve been playing keeper for 10 years (so I’m always looking at saves and postioning) and have never seen a better quick reaction save than Friedel’s – That was simple stunning.
Poor Lescot – puts both goals in for EV and can’t contain Young on a break with 20 seconds left. And how do you think JAGIELKA must feel? His gift is the only thing keeping EV from 1 (if not all 3 points).
I watched the game and though the talent was slightly less, both teams had 11 players that even in the dying seconds refused to lose. I hope all of the Chelsea players watched that game. Simply put, if Chels can muster up the same “win or die” attitude that that game had – we would be world beaters.
BC: “He may not drop BBC London Player of the Year 2008 for he has a hand (or foot?) in most of the goals that were scored by us this season.” – Scolari has to drop Frank – he is suspended for being sent off against Bordeaux. It seems to me to be inevitably like this:
Cech – Bosingwa, Alex, Terry, A Cole – Mikel – Kalou, Deco, Ballack, Malouda – Anelka
I only hope it will be 4-4-2 instead, Kalou as a second striker with Anelka, direct football (as against Bolton) and no Brasil when it is not needed. It can be offensive as well as defensive formation, moreover when it is needed, you can put in Drogba and play 4-3-3 or 4-2-4 as well…
10. chelseachelsea: “I don´t know if you guys realised it or not, there is a very low morale in our team because coach has no faith in his team.” – I haven’t heard better joke for quite a long time, thx :))) do you really think that when Scolari shakes his head in disbelief when Frank stuns a good chance, it means that he has no faith in the team? :)

Your a Chelsea fan now is it? My word. Then why did you say ‘Im not impressed with “your” coach’? Do as you wish. I was merely saying have some respect for Scolari instead of saying stupid things like “he should try out new things in training rather than praying all the time”. If you want an example of constructive critiscism, look at Blue Champions posts and learn.

well mate, lets call it a slip of finger….it was supposed to be “our”.
and i did give a constructive criticism that by telling that “he should not be afraid to try out new formations, cause we have player with that kind of quality who can fit into anything!”
