‘No signings in January’ says Peter Kenyon!
Ok relax, calm down. Kenyon has confirmed that there won’t be any January purchases at all, not even that home theatre system he was planning to buy. You’ll keep yapping about Podolski, Schweinsteiger, Adriano etc. but nothing’s gonna happen. Blame it on whatever, there won’t be any new signings in Jan.
Kenyon was quite categorical about it. He didn’t say ‘it’s upto Scolari’ or ‘we will see who Scolari wants’. Scolari may have some players in his mind for January but using the press Kenyon has conveyed the message to Scolari. We’re not sure yet if Scolari can sell someone and use that money to buy or he is free to buy free agents.
Isn’t that what Chelsea said last December as well but went ahead and bought the goal machine, Di Santo and Ivanovic in the winter window. The season before that we didn’t buy anyone in January because Jose stole Roman’s chocolate, and Roman wanted to punish him. Scolari’s denial is substantiated with a claim that ‘We never do because the types of players that we’re looking for are normally unavailable in January. They’re either cup-tied or just not available.’ Well, I can’t quite believe that. You look at the problem and look for a solution for this season. I’m not saying we should sign players in 10-year contracts in January. In 06-07, Sir Alex signed Henrik Larsson on loan for a short period and that made a difference for them.
Our type of player (whatever that means!) may not be available but does that also mean we have no players in the market that are better than a Malouda? C’mon. Also I wonder why we should be so worried about players being cup-tied. We’ll get most of our players for later stages of champions league (that is, if we beat Cluj next week!). The real trouble is in the premier league. That’s where we need players that can make a difference. The current squad with our players returning from injuries, is more than enough for the champions league. It is for the premier league that we need reinforcements. So, I don’t see being cup-tied a problem for the Jan purchases.
We also expect some of our key players to get back, more importantly – Drogba, Essien and Carvalho. To get these players back on the team sheet is like signing a new player. Look at these names. Drogba, Essien and Carvalho – if these guys were there for Arsenal match, do you think they’d have seen the match crumble under our feet? With these players, do you think we’d have played the final thirty minutes without a shot on goal? With Carvalho there, we even might have prevented those two goals.
I have always said that the core of Chelsea is what keeps Chelsea going strong. For me, the core consists of Terry, Lampard, Drogba, Essien, Cech and Carvalho. I can even add Mikel to this list. I will not add Joe Cole to this list. So this core group is what drives Chelsea to success. This group can’t take defeat. They hate to be dominated. They have a personality. It is important that this group plays for us as often as possible. When we miss three out of these six key players, it’s certainly going to impact us and it won’t be too easy to replace them.
We weren’t missing Essien in defensive midfield, thanks to some amazing performances by Mikel. But we did miss him in the midfield. That was evident on Sunday. When Deco has a bad game, we don’t have a good replacement or substitution for him. Our strength has always been the goal-scoring midfield. Even when we won back-to-back titles, none of our strikers scored 25+ goals. When goals come from everywhere, you don’t need to have a striker who scores in every second match. We are missing Essien in midfield and attacking midfield considering that he can also play as the right sided midfielder. He’s gonna be back only in March 2009. Sad.
Carvalho is expected to be back this weekend. That’s some relief. This relief is no reflection on how Alex and Ivanovic are playing. They have very good. Personally, I’ve been more impressed with Alex than Ivanovic. Alex looks more complete than Ivanovic. And also with Alex, the scope for error is very very minimal which I can’t say for the Serbian. Be it Alex or Ivanovic, Terry is not at his best if he does not have Carvalho by his side. We have seen enough matches to confirm this. Such is the intimate understanding and trust between Terry and Carvalho that they defend and they even attack without having to look for what the other is up to. Carvalho can make an appearance against Bolton this weekend. Good.
I’m really looking forward to the return of Di Santo. May be I’m hyping it up a bit too much about Franco. I’m highly impressed with whatever I’ve seen of him and I think he can help us with the plan B thingy. He is expected to be back by 14-Dec. Even Belletti could have replaced a terrible Deco that day but he was not available due to injury. Belletti is also expected to be back this weekend though he may not start unless Scolari wants to drop Deco. I don’t think Scolari would drop Deco. This man Deco was the only Scolari purchase. Scolari had everyone persuaded that Deco will provide that creative edge to Chelsea and also convinced us. I still believe that Deco would be special for us. It’s just that he had a run of a few bad games.
Given that our forwards don’t deliver, given that we bother more about how we play than what we achieve, given that Scolari is unable to influence the match proceedings, no signings in January does not sound like good news.
Blue Champions
@ Everyone
1) Firstly Chelsea needs to buy decent quality forwards.
2) Secondly Chelsea needs to sign a new manager, becuase I don’t think Felipo Scolari knows what he is doing. We will ago another season without winning the big one the FA Premier league.
Cheers
takes David Villa or Luis Fabiano……nice in my eyes if we sign a better player like Carlos Eduardo from Hoffenheim.
Everyone seems to be forgetting one of my favourite players…

I think Peter Kenyon should be sack immidiately. The bulk of our problems started with his failure to get Robinho. Robinho would have been the missing chessnut we lack upfront. Peter’s actions lately is making me doubt his loyalty to the club. The last thing we should do as a team intreasted in winning important trophies is not to get re enforcement upfront, especially the left wing where Robinho would have been playing from.
@BC
dude have u not heard?? Essien’s mom has come to London to take care of him, and she is also treating him with tradational African methods, the doctors are apparently shocked at his recovery rate, which has pushed his return date TWO months in advance, yes he is lined to be back by Jan, i m not too surprised though, i remember Cisse breaking his leg a couple of seasons back i think, the doctors were fearing for his career as he had had the same injury just a little while back… anyways he travelled back to Ivory Coast to his father and Cisse came back within six months and better than ever, i dont know what the Africans do, but hell we shld consider recruting them in our medical staff, atleast we can ward off the extensive injuries…
Cheers mates

I think Scolari should sell either one or two players ( Kalou, Malouda and Fereira) He can choose among the 3 of them. So can purchase a very good forward like Poldoski. What I derive from Peter Kenyon’s comment is, he is telling Scolari to sell before buying.
@joeblue,
There many wonders in africa. Do you know a broken bone can reconstructed manually with bare hands and some herb medicine for quick recovery in a very short time.
Deco can only play well once in a while, He has past it already. I am sure of that. We need a young player in every signing
Peter Whatever his name is should know that time is gold which means the sooner he realizes we need to buy not just ordinary players but good and quality players the better for us.i think it is time to stop all this ranting about no players coming in in January.i am using this means to plead to Scolari to stop this thing with Brazilian players and to peter Kenyon,we just don’t need to buy in January,we need to buy quality players which will cost money and note they don’t have to be old.
i really regret us missing out on Pato though, i cant understand why players are being prised away from under our very noses, have to blame K

Hej blue-mates
BC as joeblue wrote, The rock (essien) should be back sooner then expected. I also read sometime in jan. thats great news.
lol @5. joeblue
Well mate I dont know what to tell ya, maybe its just soulfood=)
but wat ever it is were really glad he is on his way back. I guess some have faster healing potential then others.
@3. Jon Stewart
I really hope that loan goes through. W Love is really kewl player. I have seen him destroy teams. wit his power, I rather have him then lukas, fabiano.
either way, if we have our core-players (listed by BC) intact, I really think we will have great shot at both big titles witout any new addition to the team.
It seems as though we do need players who can make a difference – especially when our Plan A fails. This has, of course, been made much of in recent times. We have had a very poor November which must not be repeated. And we must be top by the end of January to win the league title back.
We need someone of the calibre of Cristiano Ronaldo or Leo Messi – a true fantasy player that can galvanise the whole team and score goals.
Chelsea play in a very measured deliberate way – and we may [may] even win something this season. But we are not playing anywhere near Barcelona or Manchester United’s level in both style and consistency. The question is simply, why not?
Perhaps this takes time. But the foundation of youth players seems bereft of exciting talent, and our squad is not mixed with younger fringe players who seem capable of breaking through.
Over to you Roman and Peter – what will January and the off season bring?
taking Wagna Love from Russian Club as a loan deal will be a good deal.
@4. Daniel Ochei, from Nigeria
The less I say about Peter K the better. but I dont think Real M wanted us to have robinho in the first place for diff reasons. first they didnt wanna give chelsea an even bigger adge (before th season we are highest ranked team in europe) secondly they were so mad at robinho that they wanted to get back on him by only selling him to a team they knew he wouldnt win jack shit.
come to think of it, if it wasnt for man city they still would have had him on their squad or on a loan.
Chelsea messed up bigtime when they had him on, was it tshirts or so in the Chelsea store.
in the end of the day, I would think robinho will regret more not coming to chelsea then anything else. CAUSE ITS All about the W!!! and I cant really se man city win anything, alteast not this year.
cheers
Eljero Elia (born 1987) is a Dutch footballer who currently plays for FC Twente.
He got great potential. he got ups & speed and an eye for goals.
superstars win games but great team wins championships!
the best player : WAGNER LOVE..!! Buy NOW !!
LAVEZZI COULD BE A GREAT PLAYER FOR CHELSEA ,EVERY ONE CALL HIM NEW MARADONA.
GOOD SPEED,WELL FINISHING AND GREAT FREE KICK ABILITY
CHELSEA IS GOING TO PUT MALOUDA ON SELL.THATS GREAT
@ BC
I heard that Chelsea is interested in buying Orlando Sa
http://www.setanta.com//uk/Articles/Football/2008/12/04/Prem-Chelsea-Sa-reports/gnid-30084/
Also heard we are inteested in Thiago Silva
http://www.setanta.com//uk/Articles/Football/2008/12/04/PremSerie-A-Thiago-Silva-on-future/gnid-30065/
wat our team needs is just a good forward who has got pace to beat defenders.
at the moment there arent any available.if there are, none of them want to come to chelsea.
i think its time to put out the youngsters.we might just require franco di santo to step up now but scolari needs to give him game time as well.
i just hope our forwards would not have any injuries in the coming months,if they are injury free by march n if we are at the top or chasing by a small margin,we could hold on.
@17. CFCIR is this true??!!! or are u just blowing hot air!!
@joeblue ,
The traditional healers you are discussing about are called “bone setters”.These guys know the secrets of plants which some cultures have lost.Anyway,we all wish Essien speedy recovery
I cant wait to see Mikel and Essien playing together in the mid field. When Essien becomes available, he should automatically take his place. Scolari should rotate Deco/Ballack. If Essien takes the place of Mikel, then it will be disastrous. Essien will add the pace that our current MF lacks. We need more of Essiens pace than Deco’s creatvity. We need both Mikel and Essien in the midfield and we are not in a position to compromise any thing on this fact!!
And BTW, i would say don’t underestimate the traditional medicine of any country. Some times , you know the herbs work and they work amazingly if they do. Its worth giving a try , anyone wanna give a shot here ?
Do any of you put faith in your team or do you all think you know better?
Sack Scolari? Fire Kenyon? Sign a 30 million euro player when we already have the highest paid squad on the globe? What is your attention span? Instant success is rare and cheap, true success takes time, effort, and patience. We need stability, not drastic, panicked, flailing strokes.

Oh yes, Essien is expected to come back in Jan miraculously. But I guess it still won’t be January. I don’t think he was referring to returning to the pitch in January. Essien needs to be careful here. Mums have their methods. Remember, after found positive for a drug test, Shane Warne (top cricketer) said that he just took the medicines that his mum gave him. You can’t expect Essien’s mum to know what’s permissible and what’s not. Anyway, Chelsea FC medics will also have to give the go-ahead. Sooner the better.
By the way, such quick heals are in Indian medicine too. Even for fractures and broken bones, there are healing methods in India that take less than half the time than it takes for the white collar rehab methods.
I have a lump in my throat which won’t go away until after some good wins.
Haha, I do hope those miraculous healing techniques help in getting Essien back as soon as possible, we so dearly need him ! BC, With ref. to Malouda, i think hes trying but its just that hes not upto our CFC standard. He could be the casualty in our attempt to sign someone new in Jan, no profit-no loss method perhaps ? Replacing him with a striker, who we could loan out uptil say April-May would be satisfactory. Yes, i know there would be the supposed ‘vacuum’ in the wings due to Maloudas departure, but then we do hve Joe Cole, Kalou, Scott Sinclair and hell evn Fabio Paim for that !
THIS WEEK IS VERY IMPORTANT . THE ONLY THING THAT WE NEED IS 2 WINS .
IT IS TERRY DUTY TO BRING BACK CHELSEA`S SPIRIT.
We need to mix things up
———————-cech—————
bosingwa—-Carlvaho————–terry———cole
——————-Ivanovic/Minero———————-
Ballack(First half)
Deco(2nd half )————-Mikel————-lampard

———————Anelka————————-
I don’t think we need anybody in winter. We have at least three strikers of the highest quality – Drogba, Anelka, Kalou. There is Di Santo on the bench as well. Chelsea just have to find a way how to use them and how to change its play to be able to get into the game when it’s not going well from the beginning. It is not about more players, but about the style of the play. Let’s see what Scolari is going to do; even Frank Lampard is now saying we need more options how to play:
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=599129&sec=england&cc=5739
@28 aston villa has a better team than that
hey guys did you watched chelsea in world ranking , thanks to big phil WE ARE GOING LOWER AND LOWER.
what is beautiful game in your opinion ? because of it we lost our old power , our fortress and the spirit.
in game we have great possession and playing with ball very much, but not enough chances.
JUST LIKE LAMPARD SAID: WE HAVE BEEN PREDICTABLE AND IF WE COULD NOT FIX THIS PROBLEM ,WE ARE OUT OF EVERY COMPETITION.
everyone that is calling for Scolari to be sacked or replaced is absolutely absurd! Firstly, this is the mans first stint in Europe club management and he his doing quite well actually considering the games we have coming up. No, we have not won against any of the TOP FOUR yet! Fine! There is your reason to complain… but when you think about it, have we all our players at our disposal? Are we not doing well in the table even in this mini-crisis? AND HOW THE HELL DO YOU WISH TO INCREASE STABILITY AT STAMFORD BRIDGE IF WE SACK EVERY MANAGER THAT STARTS HAVING A ROUGH PATCH?
Like I said, all morons who have no sense of the scene and affects of actions off of the field! Scolari will be here for the next two or three seasons easily, and we will win some great trophies in the process. Hint: THIS IS A PROCESS! So let it fall through please
I doubt it vinton lindo, atleast am not. but am I askin FOR answers hell yea. The boss is the Nr one responsible person for the team. so when the team aint playing well he will be the first to be asked, thats the name of the game.
am more concerned wit the way we been playing the actually losing games but that goes hand in hand. I guess
as a fan you want the best for your team. thats why we react when things dont go our way.
Yea we havent had all our players to our disposal, but even with the players we have we still need to show hunger and spirit. EVERY player the hit the pitch should play like its their last game.
In the end all this will do us good. and to have the injured player get back playing will be a big booster.
WHAT matters is that we are all on the same page here, WE ALL WANT CHELSEA TO GO TO THE PROMISE LAND AND BRING BACK WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN OURS LAST MAY.
and ofcourse the EPL.
/go ߣu€
at most, we could do with a winger on loan. this article is very accurate, bc is probably getting annoyed because all i fuss about is a left footed winger to replace robben but its what we lack
man utd-giggs
liverpool-now have riera so have improved
real madrid- robben
barcelona – messi
these are the four biggest examples I can find of driving force, defending a left footed player is difficult because it changes the fundamentals of tackling, your right against their left means you have to lunge constantly which is not a controlled tackle and ultimately makes the difference between stopping a player and conceeding a spot kick or goal.
When our players are back on their fee, we will make a huge drive. Carvahlo drogba, joey and belletti will sort us, belletti is so versatile that he will solve alot of problems and hopefully essien will be on form for the champions league final so i am not worried, arsenal and liverpool will continue to lose to teams like hull, chelsea will beat man utd at old trafford and we will win the league with a considerable margin
my preictions last season
carling cup – chelsea
fa cup – arsenal
premiership – man utd
champions league – chelsea
the results
chelsea reaches carling cup final
fa cup arsenal crash out in quarters
man utd won premiership
man utd barely won the champions league
this season I said before we even signed deco
THE PREMIER LEAGUE IS OURS
At 60 this is Scolari’s first stint in European club management. That is not an age at which learning new things comes easily. That is why he will always try to bring in South American or Iberian players whom he understands and who understand him. The Chelsea youth team squad will hardly get a look-in while he’s in charge because he has only a two-year contract and his interviews in Brazilian newspapers all point to him being in charge of a team at the 2010 world cup. That does not sound like a Chelsea team-building schedule, more like a short-term contract agreed by both sides. For him, it would mean topping up his pension because his Chelsea salary is twice what he got paid anyplace else. For Chelsea it means he was probably hired on the short-term to get a trophy or two while they continue scouting for their preferred long-term choice. So accept him for what he is but don’t think he will be there for five years or more because he won’t.

Agree with what you say . chelsea youngsters are going to find it difficult to play first team football. Frank Rijkaard should have been manager , considering Ten Cate was also with us at the start of the season. Can’t do much at this time.
Tomorrow we play against a team, which I has taken points from us, in the past two seasons. ( though at bridge), but both the matches were important. Last year we should have ended the season with the same points as Man U , but for a goal from bolton at the end..
@ 35. bluebayou you make some good points!!! I agree he wont be here for the long term !! maybe Roman will go back for JOSE, But maybe Mancine or even Rijkaard….!! good point though!!! chelsea needs a manager who know tactics well!!
Chelsea def need some players. Anelka CANNOT lead the line, he is useless…The problem was we didnt ger robinho…it would have been the final peice of the puzzle, but no matter how we deny it, he was a huge peice of that puzzle that we didnt get. Blame kenyon or roman for not coming up with the dosh needed. Or blame madrid for being suck wankers. But to blame scolari is wrong. If he had his players he chelsea would be doing a lot better. Chelsea started well but are having some problems now, mainly due to injuries. Scolari needs as much time as grant or mourinho, after that, its upto chelsea to decide whether they want him or not. All this talk of blan B, scolari when he first arrived he said “i want chelsea to play 2, maybe 3 different ways” Sounds like he had plan B and C in mind. BUT YOU NEED PLAYERS WHO CAN EXECUTE HIS IDEAS ON THE PITCH. Right now for whatever reason that understanding is not quite in effect…maybe thats why he needs more, better players…
so what if its scolaris first stint in euro football? You think euro football is harder or better than south american football ro world cup football? Thats just silly european arrogance as usual. Scolari has won the EQUIVALENT of the champions league twice in SA. Playing on nice pitches, well mannered fans, beautiful stadiums is a walk in the park for a man used to SAmerican football. The only problem is scolaris players are mostly european oriented, tactically. Thats why its easier for them to adopt a european coaches tactics…Thats why he needs to bring in more technically and tactically skilled players from brazil. They will translate into play what scolari teaches them in the classroom….I do hope scolari IS long term, he is bucket loads better than the likes of mourinho, rijkarrd , mancini or any other fellow you could think of.
most people here are morons. Chelsea going lower in some mickey mouse world ranking??? WHO CARES. scolari to blame? WHAT BOLLOCKS! When chelsea were playing great at the beginning everyone was brownosing upto scolari…they very sod he walked on was worshipped. A run of poor results and its time for him to go???? Fans these days NO NOTHING. I wonder what would have happened to man united if alex ferg had been fired after HORRIBLE early results, had he not been given time to get things right. Thankfully roman and kenyon have more sense than the idiots commenting here.
