Who is Fabio Paim? A 20-year old Portuguese winger from Sporting Lisbon. He is one of the million youngsters being dubbed as the next Ronaldinho. I mean, I gather he is really good. Of course you know why am I talking about him. Rumour has it that we have taken him on a 1 year loan with an option of buying him at the end of the loan. This Fabio guy is supposed to be a winger in the Quaresma mould with quick and spectacular dribbling skills, great shooting and a great vision for the game. Excited, aren’t you? Now is the part that would bring you down back to earth.
If he was so good he must have been in the first team of Sporting Lisbon. But he wasn’t. He was on loan to three clubs in the last season. Very strange treatment for a next Ronaldinho. If he was so good, Sporting should have sold him to us for a some crazy money. They have only loaned him to us. May be the end of year option could be a heavy one. Not sure about that.
I’m not too particular about him being the next great thing. As long as he is a good young player, I’m fine. He is from Portugal and Scolari knows a thing or two about Portugal. The one thing you need to remember is that Fabio seems to have had some behavioural issues. Never mind, Scolari would be more than what we need to handle him. Getting Fabio must have been his choice or at least he must have had a say there. By the way, if you think Fabio is an alternative for Robinho, read on.
The usual suspects carry this report that Kenyon is in Madrid to complete the formalities around the Robinho signing. This comes after Madrid ruled out any move and after Robinho’s agent said that the deal is broken. Seeing that Scolari likes to play 4-3-3, Robinho now looks like a fantastic option on the right. SWP is anyway due a move either through a sale or a loan. I hope we come to an end with the Robinho thing. I now understand how difficult it must have been for the Man Utd fans to have gone through the bore of Ronaldo for about three months. Robinho story must stop now, preferably in our favour. At least the club website should confirm the loan move of Fabio Paim. I’ll wait.
Staying on with Fabio, England drew with Czech Republic 2-2 thanks to a clumsy last minute goal from Joe Cole. Don’t be deceived by the scoreline 2-2. It was an awfully boring match, mostly because of England. Capello has been subjected to a lot of flak after this performance and rightly so. I don’t mind if they don’t win these friendlies but England didn’t even get the basics right. This was the first time I watched England after Capello took over. I should tell you, nothing has changed. In the last quarter of an hour, I was hoping that Czech wins and creates a furore back in England. Luckily for Capello, Joe Cole slipped one in and the post-match impact was not as severe as it should have been.
There is news that Shevchenko is all set to move to Milan this week. I love Shevchenko. I would love to see Shevchenko as the star striker in Chelsea. He did decently well. He had a difficult first season but I thought he was showing signs of improvement in his second season. His injuries and lack of opportunities did not really him in showing his improvement. 22 goals in 75 matches is never going to be sufficient for a legend like Shevchenko and the hefty price tag that he came with. I don’t want Shevchenko to be in the bench with the like of Di Santo, Kalou etc. Sheva is a legend and if he is not coming good for us, it’s quite right to let him leave where he wants to go. That’s the right kind of respect we can give this man. Roman is friends with Sheva and I guess that’s why he seems to allow a U-turn. I’m keen to know how Milan fans would react to this news. They begged him to stay but he moved on. I’ve then seen a lot of Milan fans calling him a ‘traitor’. Will they accept him and love him like they used to?
With Pizarro gone and Sheva all set to leave, we get this news that Drogba would be out until October. That’s what the Ivory Coast coach says. If that’s true, what do we do from now until October. I know we scored four without Drogba but ever week we can’t play Portsmouth at home. At least, Kalou is back from Olympics. He would available for selection. Then there’s Di Santo. Then there’s Scott Sinclair. Worrisome? To say that Chelsea attack would depend only on Anelka and Kalou, is for me a bit worrisome. Should we buy a striker? At least a stop gap type?

BC, what ive been told is that fabio paim is a right winger who is seen as having amazing dribling skills and pace and flair, he has more potential then ronaldo but hasnt been used properly at his time at sporting. I think this could turn out a wonder signing from scolari.I to hope the robinho saga ends already, kenyon is in madrid atm negotiating and hopefully it will end sooner rather then later.
Let’s wait &see wat stuff is in dis boy fabio, hope he starts playn asap. As 4 robinho,i suspect he’s only using d chelsea stuff 2 get himself a bigger or beta pay rise from madrid.I also believe in our 4wards so i dont tink we need to sign new striker. On this, let’s wait till Sunday and c wat ‘ll happen. Peace! Blues 4 life!
scolari has a history of turning these type of players into great players
Heyy BC, i dont think we need a striker as of now, because even though we may seem to be short of a few given the fact that we are one of ‘the strongest squads’ in Europe, we have even talent in kalou, di santo and even anelka who is showing some promise lately.
If scolari does use his 4-3-3 formation, then i think as of now anelka will be used as the lone central striker with kalou and j.cole/malouda on his sides. That temporarily i think will be good enough until october when drogba is expected to return. The problem with getting a new striker is that he will be surplus to requirements after october and given our clubs magnumopus nature, we will not hunt for a mediocre striker, but rather a big, goal-scoring one and he might end up in the bench like sheva did..dont really want that. what do you guys think ?
Wat is going to happen when Anelka and Drogba are both injured ??? ……..4-3-3 with Kalou as the lone striker ??
I don’t think so….
buildchelsea5@
it worked last january before anelka signed
i dont think we need a striker…we would do good till drogba comes back into action…
Sporting starlet Fabio Paim has described his imminent loan move to Chelsea as ‘unbelievable’ and is now hoping to win a permanent transfer to Stamford Bridge.
The 20-year-old is poised to join the London club and new manager Luiz Felipe Scolari until the end of the 2008-2009 season and Chelsea’s interest has clearly caught him by surprise.
Having spent loan spells with Trofense and Pacos Ferreira last season, making seven league appearances with the latter, a move to one of Europe’s elite clubs will be a real challenge for the highly-rated winger and it is one he is keen to rise to.
“It is a surprise, I was not expecting anything,” Paim told Maisfutebol.
“I have no words to describe it. It is an unbelievable thing, it is a very important step and undoubtedly the greatest of my career.
“Beyond my year loan, they have an option to buy and of course, they have to observe me.”
put essien in the game and let the chelsea magic flow, cos drogba’s absence will surely hurt us but just pair kalou with eigther cole or anelka.i also think we were hard on sheva, cos he has always had less playing time.
Do we really need a striker ??? i don think so.I believe we would do gud with the bunch we have already. The best formation for us would be 4-5-1 or 4-3-2-1 or 4-2-3-1.We alreay have 3 strikers in Drogba,Anelka and Kalou. We’ve got a perfect balance in the team considering we play these formations. There’s absolutely no need for Roman to splash another £25milli more to bring Robinho or who ever.If he Robinho joins us,he would be a great addition with out doubt. But are we in urge to bring in a striker like UTD ?

Hey blues lets kill Wigan at their home and then talk abt all these….
robinho is a winger not a striker
@12 Robinho is an accomplished second striker as well.
i read the deal was allreday done and deco wants to help fabi settle at the bridge. http://www.tribalfootball.com/article.php?id=107914
and allso chelsea made a bid for di maria. this kid is soooo good. i rather have him than robinho. even do he is a winger and not a striker. http://www.tribalfootball.com/article.php?id=107913
what do guys say. true or bulls*it?
Hey BC,how abt Podolski ? He is young, flamboyant winger n a striker and above all he’s german. He is just like Robinho in wings and while playing forward.I’m sure he’ll be cheaper than Rob and well.He is a fantastic player to me..
Hi Blue Champions,
I heard a rumour concerning a move of Mikael Silvestre from Man Utd to Arsenal?
Cheers
scolari wants a brazilian “samba star”. hehe
if the Fabio guy is as good as i have read, then let him come on board. as for Robinho, I think it will be wonderful to have him on board too.
14. bluefan #1
Di Maria over Robinho?Crist, are you on medication? (j/k)
And yes,Fabio is good enough….for Chelsea B Team.
Hey everyone, go on youtube and type in “chris cohen – scolari song” i told him to sing it and he did, it’s based on the song “Volare”. its awesome
Hi Blue Champions,
AC Milan must be out of their mind, if they think they’re going to get so much money for one player.
But these figures are normal for BC’s friend Joe who has gone A.W.O.L.?
ie. Chelsea should pay in excess of £5om for Steven Gerrard
Where is Joe?
Anyway can anyone tell me what’s happened to Maysam?
Oh, and yes Chelsea needs decent (quality) forwards!
Cheers
Fabio Paim.

Some people that have followed him in Sporting youth academy say he used to “teach” Ronaldo some tricks altought he was nearly 3 years younger but he lacked some serious atitude towards training so we was left out of Under19 Portuguese squad and wasnt called for Sporting pre-seasson.
@ 19. no im not on medications. robinho has it hard to play in the starting 11 in real. he is 24 and he has already seen his peak. he is going down. 30 mil for robinho or 20 mil for di maria. i rather pay 10 mil less and get the 20 year old that only can get bether. have u seen the kid play in the olympics. he is fast a good dribbler can score and make good crosses. in 2 years this kids price will be over 35 mil, trust me. he could be our new robben/zola. do u want chelsea to go after names or talents? do your homework a-hole
by the way BC, fabio played with nani 3 years ago and was higher ranked than him. but he was injured so he couldnt play much. after he got well he wnt on a loan. he have potential and i belive he is a good loan. i say why not. lets give him a chance.
They way I see it is Robinho for SWP.And occasionally to fill in for any injury crisis in striker department.
Didnt see him at olympics but saw many of his performances from last seasson.20mil is way over rated.
I mean I saw some performances form Scott Sinclair when he was on loan and seemed way much better than DiMaria is now, 1 or 2 young forwards given and ocassional run is first-team seems ok,but 3?
Or your talking about shelling out 20mil to have him on loan?
Hi Blue Champions,
I think that it was a big mistake getting rid of Jose Mourinho. He still had many and many years to guide and mould Chelsea into a team which could have been a European Super Power. I’m talking about years from now, say looking at the next 5 yrs and say 10 yrs etc.
C’mon Sir Alex Ferguson also lost out to Arsne Wenger a couple of times.
Look at Liverpool, they wouldn’t even care how they the Barclays league. As long as the objective is completed set out by the members of the board and that is win the league.
Cheers
BC great article man !!
I say let the Fabio guy in on the action is he is as good as i have read. As for Robinho, I think it will be wonderful to have him on board too.
It is nice to hear chelsea being mentioned with less expensive player… that also has alot of promise!! hopefully he turns into a superstar with the help of the manager… and the people can start saying … hey chelsea gave that young player a chance an now he is one of the best players in the world!! instead of buying players past their best or those seeking retirement money!!
i say let him in…. and then sell SWP!!!
i’m 100% 4 chelsea buying young players but im not sure if this guy is any good or not, i’v read a few sites that say sporting let him leave because he did not figure in the managers plans, if that’s the case then he can’t be that good, however all players can improve with better coaching and i support Scolari 100% cuz he knows portugal a lot better than most.
P.S “chris cohen – song for scolari” on youtube
I still feel SWP deserves one more season at Chelsea to prove himself. That guy has tried so hard to fit in, and has shown flair at times. There must me some formation that he fits in……common guys if we start dumping people that have been in club for so long, players won´t be feeling that happy and secure, do they? Instead they are going to hate to be in a unfriendly place thats going to dump them as soon as they get a bit inferior to current competitions…i don´t know how to explain that, something like family stuffs…..that keeps players sticking together…
Dont need Robinho. Anelka would be sufficent with Kalou as a super sub. The only thing that would worry me slightly is the chances to goals ratio of both. However i think there are enough goals from the midfield to ensure we have enough firepower. COME ON THE CHELS!!!!. Jimmy, Matthew Harding Lower Season Ticket Holder
Trouble is if Anelka keeps showing good form he’s gonna probably be playing for France too. With both Cups, EPL, Champions League and national team fixtures how long can a player keep his good form without getting into small injuries that never get fully recovered (see Ronaldo for example)?
Plus Drogba now seems to be only fit late October and Scolary wont risk calling him too soon.Kalou is great, but if either one of them gets any kind of injury until October you’re gonna be in trouble.
Before this Drogba set-back I wouldnt think of bringing any player at all.Now I’m not so sure.Maybe Scolari isnt too.
Alrite lads!
First of all, i am gettin really annoyed at Roman for bringing in players such as Crespo and Sheva, keeping them for a season or two, nt giving them game after game and then loaning them out. I fink sheva is a good player to be honest and he trys his heart out for Chelsea and im annoyed we are giving him back to AC. I DO fink we need a new striker, but not a target man such as anelka or drogs because in case of emergency we have Di Santo (who is the next big argentinian player i swear). I would love to get Robinho as he is a brilliant AMC Winger or Striker as he has skill finishing and loadsa pace!
As for this Fabio player… hmmm, i fink he ll be a bench warmer cos if he cant get into sportings team, he wont get into ours. Hope he proves us all wrong and scores 42 goals from the right winger
Rollzy
chelsea have signed paim
Looks like Sheva is staying after all…
if we need a striker my candidates Martins – Yakubu- or Niang.
@26.don’t get me wrong i’m also a mourinho fan.bt i gues his style of football just wasnt appealing enough to watch(even though it gave results).d thing is if u play unattractive football you hav to kip winning cos when you stop every one starts getting frustrated and impatient-bt i dont thinks its not d same when you play attractive football.afterall wenger wud hav bin sacked a while back cos of lack of results.bt you can see dat arsenal football has a bright future with thier style of play-didnt rily see one wit mourinho sorry!
lets hope and pray scolari is the answer.
@ Oscar #36
Remember Jose Mourinho doesn’t even play boring football, its only the jelous fans who spread this nonsense about Chelsea.
To get 95 points in your first season in charge is a huge achievement, I mean c’mon. The man must be doing something right.
To play “attractive football” and win not a single piece of silverware says alot about who’s football philosophy is way more supperior.
Cheers
I think Robinho’s a lightweight and Roman and co and are just playing with Real to get in to the news , trying destabilize the Galacticos. Robinho maybe good but when the going gets tough in the Premiership and the fullbacks starting kicking him from all directions ………. hum…… he might become another Sheva. Even SAF isn’t using Nani and Anderson that much until they put on some muscle / body mass. He waited till Ronaldo did and only then could the fella fend off those defenders !
Whatcha think guys ?
the chances of buying robinho are getting slimmer by the day, so if we r going 2 buy him we need to buy him him now. i would love to see someone of his skill at the bridge, but if we do buy him we’ll need to sell SWP or Malouda, or both. So we kinda need to get our act together. and if we buy robinho it solves the striker problem cause we can play 2nd striker or on the left or on the right in attacking midfield. interesting times r ahead.
BC Fabio Paim was an oustanding junior, and when he played for Sporting of Portugal he was better than Ronaldo or Quaresma, the problem was his attitude in traning, he thought he was already a star.
Oustanding pace and drbbling ability, I hope Scolari, that knows all the prortuguese players as he has been there for the last 6 years, will be able to control Fabio Paim and make him show his brilliance. period
What is the latest on this dude??
He is nowhere to be found on the Chelsea site, has not played any reserve games. Is he still with Chelsea?
