As a key milestone before the start of the season, we have now settled down on a very solid and popular theme for the blog. While I will be tweaking this theme with a noble cause of giving you the best blogging experience, I have no idea of changing it. I have done tweaks beyond by technical capabilities to make this work in Internet explorer. Hope this looks fine in Internet Explorer too. I get no money from Mozilla for saying this but Mozilla Firefox is the best browser and you can read the reviews to confirm this. I know some of you guys check the blog from office in which case you have little control over the choice of browser. Anyway, I seriously hope this is fine in IE. Users can confirm. If you’re browsing from your mobile phone, this theme could be quite neat.
Two Chelsea related deals have supposedly failed yesterday. One was of Ivanovic and other was Robinho. I would not have been happier if both had gone through. I want to retain Ivanovic. He seems to be a good player, a versatile defender with a nose for goals. Some really big European clubs are after him and that’s a good indication of how he’s rated. He’s not even made his professional Chelsea debut but he wants to join Milan. To be plain, that’s like being a bitch. I don’t want players to stay at Chelsea against their wishes. We have a great club with great ambition and world class players and staff. Players like Ivanovic should know where they are and try to give their best to the club instead of trying to move even before making the professional debut. Now that Chelsea and Milan have failed to come to a conclusion, Ivanovic should get his tail behind his legs and start showing some respect for the club that he plays for.
On Robinho, Calderon has told Robinho exactly what I was telling Ivanovic above. He’s just said, ‘game over, get back to work’. We have heard this before. Both clubs might be claiming that a deal is not feasible and suprisingly, literally the 11th hour, you’ll see an image of smiling Robinho and shining Kenyon displaying the shirt no.24. I’ll wait on Robinho. But I won’t be too worried too. You know, sometime last season, the Daniel Alves deal was going on pretty much like this. Alves wanted to leave, he made some very damning statements on Sevilla, he was publicly pleading Sevilla to join Chelsea, and then finally the deal broke and now he is in Barcelona. It was a question of money then. It was a fallen out JM who was trying to buy an expensive player. Now it is the new manager and the new star arrival who are keen on signing Robinho. I guess we’ll go all the way to steal him from Madrid. Now the offer for Robinho can also be improved because Mutu has been ordered to pay Chelsea £14 million for his cocaine-shortened career at Chelsea. So we got more money to waste ;-)
Some Chelsea fans believed that we succumbed to the pressure from Lampard and offered him a bonanza deal. Firstly, all that we know officially is that it’s a 5-year contract. We don’t actually know the weekly wages. The press has been quoting various figures from the air. Anyway, I agree it’s a stretch for a 30-year old footballer. Let’s admit it. We’ve not been very prudent with money we have, thanks to Roman, we did not have to.
Consider these: we paid about £24 million to buy SWP and pay him in the region of £70k per week, we bought Sheva for about £30 million and pay him about £130k per week, for Ballack we were paying him around £130k per week for many months he couldn’t play. Now we have a Frank Lampard who keeps himself fit, stays out of injury, plays every single match for Chelsea, works tirelessly, scores 20 goals per season and numerous assists, has won titles with/for Chelsea – c’mon, I would stretch it for him. I had mentioned before that Chelsea FC should not be submissive to Lampard and his agent. Apparently, Lampard’s request has not been met. There have been compromises on either side. You might say Lampard should be quite happy with this compromise but see what Chelsea could also get out of this deal.
Our loooong wait is over. I’m excited that premier league football begins tomorrow. Tomorrow matches are Arsenal v West Brom, Bolton v Stoke, Everton v Blackburn, Hull v Fulham, Middlesbrough v Tottenham, Sunderland v Liverpool and West Ham v Wigan. If Liverpool loses points against Sunderland, we can safely say that they are out of the title race, this time as early as the first day of the premier league. Tottenham should start strongly for all the hype that’s been created by/around them. Let me say, I’ve bought the hype.
My prediction of the final standing of the premier league table is this:
1. Chelsea
2. Man Utd
3. Liverpool
4. Tottenham
5. Arsenal
6. Aston Villa
7. Portsmouth
8. Everton
9. Man City
10. Newcastle
11. West Ham
12. Blackburn
13. Sunderland
14. Middlesbrough
15. Wigan
16. Fulham
17. West Brom
18. Bolton
19. Hull
20. Stoke
Come up with your list. Let’s see how we differ and let’s see in May 2009 how accurate we were.
I’m almost done with the preview post for the Portsmouth match. I’ll publish it tomorrow. It’s going to be a challenge when it comes to what formation to play and whom to play. I’m almost confident that none of us are going to agree with the other as I’ve already seen setups that are distinctly unique.
Before I go, I’ll give this piece from Roy Keane:
This year for me it’s Chelsea. I always felt that United would do it last year, but I fancy Chelsea this time. There’s no African Nations Cup, they’ve got a new manager, they’ve bought one or two new players and for all the ups and downs last year at the club, they still nearly nicked it. If United get a top, top striker they’ve got a chance, but my gut feeling this year would be Chelsea.
I’m yet to see someone who with some conviction says that Man Utd will win the title this season. No one, really. I’m sure Man Utd are feeling the heat already. They’ve gotta be afraid, very afraid!

Oh man….BC, add a sidebar and decrease the width of the content. Its so hard to read 640px+ column. Newspapers have narrow columns for a reason – they increase readability. Everything else looks good.
Hi blue lead, I completely agree with you, final standing shows you are a visionary. However,i strongly believe that the spurs are capable of going up one position ahead of Looserpool or they also are capable of going down Gooners considering Berbatov’s interest in joining the Red Devils.I also like to see how Mersey side,Man City,Villa and Pommpy do this season…
On the other hand my belief on the season title is grown to the maximum extent hearing Lamps had put pen on a 5 yr contract offered by the board.I wonder how people talk about the contract offered to Lamps,he has always been the MAN is crisis, with his scoring abilities, killer passes, long shoots,Corner takes.I believe no one has furgot his free kick abilities as well, since the arrival of Ballack i thought they’ll share the free kick chances but to my surprise Ballack and Drogba started sharing those chances.Would you image the player of his caliber sacrificing such oppertunities to the fellow players for the team sake,he did it.Why not extent his contract ?? If any one speaks of Loyalty to the club, the first name on the list would be this man who has been such a team player.I like to see Lamps taking the free kicks along with Ballack this season not Drogba.
1. Chelsea, 2. ManUtd, 3. Liverpool, 4. Spurs, 5. Arsenal, 6. Villa, 7. Portsmouth, 8. Everton, 9. ManCity, 10. WestHam, 11. Newcastle, 12. Sunderland, 13. Blackburn, 14. Fulham 15. WBA, 16. Boro, 17. Bolton, 18. Wigan, 19. Stoke, 20. Hull.
i agree with your table BC
1. Chelsea 2. ManU 3. Lpool 4. Arsenal 5. Portsmouth 6. ManCity 7. Spurs 8. Villa 9. Everton 10. Newcastle
11. Sunderland 12. West Ham 13. Fulham 14. Boro 15. Blackburn 16. WBA 17. Stoke 18. Wigan 19. Hull 20. Bolton
I think Scolari will field a 4-1-2-1-2
——————-Cech———————
Ferreira—-Terry—-Carvalho—-Cole
————–Essien————————
——-Deco——-Ballack—————–
————–Lampard———————
——–Anelka——–Sheva————–
Subs : Alex, Ivanovic, Pizzaro, J. Cole, Malouda/SWP, Cudicini, Mikel.
We can’t expect Di Santo because he’s the one for the future according to Scolari (also as its his first EPL game he will play safe and will have an experienced team, we can expect Di Santo in the mid season, i.e after Scolari settles down).
In the second half you can expect a 4-3-3 with Ballack, Sheva and Ferreira making way for J. Cole, Malouda/SWP and Ivanovic respectively.
This way he will use all the star players in the starting line-up, and will substitute others in the second half. Every one would get a chance too.
I don’t want Robinho in the team, he’s using Chelsea to get a better contract from Real. We don’t need him when we have SWP, Malouda, J. Cole and Kalou (who was mostly used on wings last season), also Robinho can’t play in EPL, which is mostly physical unlike the La Liga. Even if he does come to Chelsea we can’t expect a great performance from in the first season as he needs to cope with the physical aspect of the game, just like Ronaldo’s first season at Manure.
Having Lampard for the next 5 seasons is great but the amount we pay him is too much. We could have bought Ribas Diego / Van der Vaart with that amount (fact is we have to shell out the cash at once, which is bad).
i hope phil will play 4-1-3-2.
“for Ballack we were paying him around £130k per week for many months he couldn’t play”
Thats why clubs have insurance. My guess is that money didnt come from Chelsea but from insurance company.
Guess its all coming together now…………
My formation against Portsmouth:
Cech
Carvalho Terry
Bosigwa Ashley
Essien Ballack
Joey Lamps
Deco
Anelka
Wat da heck…How da hell that turn out like dat…………..

Subs: Cudicini, Alex, Malouda, Ballack , Swp and Di Santo.
Prediction: 2:0
The two wingback can attack as much as possible while Mikel can cover for them. Essein will be the power drive and Deco the playmaker. Lampard will be behind Anelka. Joe Cole will do his normal work. Ballack can come in for either for Mikel or Joecole that depends on the formation Scolari is swicthing to. Di Santo will be the standing striker, Shevy and kalou not available due to injury and national duty. Pizzaro is loan to Werder Bremen.
I just cant wait till sunday and the Roman Army matching out. With this team selcetion and everyone stays fit and in good form then we can do the unthinkable.
Up Blues
Guys are we at a striker crissis again, Claudio Pizarro has joined Werder Bremen on a season-long loan deal, kalou is out in the olympics, sheva has had a groin surgery, Drogba has knee problems, and Real are not allowing Robihno to go for less then 30 mil pounds. I say give them the 30 so we at least one option behind anelka.
Pizzaro on loan to Wender B.?Thats great.Things are working according to plans.SWP and Belleti be ready ‘cos you guys are next.Peace to all my blue brothers
i agree with most of the positions but i think liverpool and arsenal need to be swapped around
arsenal wouldn’t have won the premiership last season but would have finished much tighter had they not have had so many injuries
with eduardo back, they should be able to score goals again whereas liverpool haven’t adressed their problem which iskeeping goals out
im quite shocked benitez bought two appalling fullbacks and is now chasing a slow winger
babel covers the left fine, he should be looking to bring in someone like david silva and sergio ramos, either of those two would sort them out
man utd will finish second because last season they were at peak, terry is right in saying ronaldo won’t score 42 goals again. Ronaldo is going to miss at least two months of the season which means man utd will probably score around 10 goals less without him, nani can’t fill that gap so that’s how it is

rooney won’t make up those goals because he goes for the spectacular finish too often, how many volleys do we see go over the crossbar?
Tottenham should do well as ramos has bought the right players, if he brings in the right strikers, tottenham should finish in the top 4
what puts it beyond doubt for us to win domestically, is firstly we are staring with two injuries being bosingwa and drogba, last season we were missing drogba, lampard and ballack and were plagued through the season by injury and the acn but we still pushed man utd to the wire. With rightback hopefully secured and the addition of two strikers, there is no reason why we should finish second in anything this season. We have the worlds best keeper and there is still much more to come from him as he is only 26, a brilliant and diverse defence, europes strongest midfield and two strikers who are both good in the air
