Typical of Chelsea, isn’t it? Losing to Lokomotiv one day and demolishing Milan a couple of days later. Now, let’s not undermine this win with any remarks like it was a weakened Milan and all that. Couple of points. Firstly, this Milan team is surely better than Lokomotiv. That shows we’ve done a lot better job from a penalty defeat to a 5-0 thrashing. Secondly, Milan were lacking key people in the attack. Whereas in defence and midfield, it was a team that should not have lost 5-0. To beat a team 5-0 is always a great thing. If Chelsea were to field a similary depleted team against a full strength Milan, I don’t think we’d have lost 5-0.
Anelka stole the show today. Now it’s 7 goals plus some assists by Anelka in the pre-season. Ever since I threw my gripe about him in this blog, he seems to be fired up. If there was ever a player of the pre-season award, it’d go to him. Sadly enough, I do remember this match between Arsenal and Liverpool in the 06-07 season. Julio Baptista was pretty much a flop move and the Arsenal fans were losing patience over him. In that match at Anfield, Baptista scored four goals and the Arse fans rejoiced that the ‘beast is back’. And the rest is history, I mean joke, to be exact.
It’s good that Anelka has come up with his goods, while Drogba’s contract extension is being discussed. Anelka’s rise in form is surely going to influence Scolari in deciding on his formation. The frenchman has made it quite verbally clear that he wants to play as a striker, not behind the striker, not on either sides of the striker, he wants to play as the striker. Sheva has not showed any improvement. Now this would be his third season in England and he is 32 years old. Someone needs to take a decision. It could even be Sheva himself. I don’t expect him to score 7 goals in the pre-season, it’s just that he doesn’t show any promise. He is not threatening anymore. I’m sure none of the defenders around are losing sleep at the thought of handling him.
Scolari knows that he’d have some sweet selection problems in a couple of week’s time.
The possibilities are better for the game against Portsmouth than they were before. I am happy because I saw players go up in their level from training and the last game. It was not the normal Milan, they had four or fives players out, big players with quality, but our team played very well and the performance today was better than the four earlier games.
That was the key. That was our best game of the pre-season and luckily that was the last match of the pre-season. He knows that Anelka cannot be benched in this kind of form. Also, Drogba is expected to sign the contract extension soon and be ready for the premier league. When Drogba puts his mind on the task, he is one of the most lethal players around. So, it could mean that Scolari could play a 4-4-2 against Portsmouth or play 4-3-3 and bring on Anelka for Drogba.
This game was important for Anelka but more important for us – the fans, the coach and the other players who will have more confidence in him. Today was good not because he scored four goals but because he played more free and with more quality than in other games. He was playing against a big club and to get four goals against Milan, for his confidence it is fantastic and Anelka today and the last game played more inside the penalty area than before. That is where I asked him to play and where I need him, not right and left as before, because we have one striker and that is Anelka.
Here, Scolari makes it clear that if Anelka is going to be used, that would be as a striker or one among the strikers. It’s nice that Scolari wants to resurrect Anelka by giving him time, role and confidence. The Anelka of Bolton was a dangerous player, a player that you would fear, a real dangerman. Let’s see if Scolari can bring back that real Nicolas Anelka.
There is news that Robinho pleads with Madrid to let him join Chelsea. Now Madrid are in a soup. While they are telling Man Utd not to hold onto Ronaldo against his wishes, they have one player from their club who tells them the same. Of course, Real Madrid would be hypocrites of the highest order. Still I’m quite curious to see how this develops. Well, I’ve also resigned to the fact that Robinho would join us. See, I’m not saying he is a bad player or something. He is in fact a very very good player but I don’t know where would I play him, how often would I play him? On the other hand, if his arrival means SWP leaving us, I’d wait in the London airport to welcome Robinho.
Before I finish for the day, there was this high profile football news that had something to do with India. Anil Ambani of India, the 6th richest person in the world is all set to acquire Newcastle United for 230 million pounds. I’m quite excited about the probable Indian element in the premier league. The net worth of Anil Ambani, is $42 billion. And if you think he is the richest man in India, you’re wrong!
Our pre-season is over. No more friendlies. Not even the community shield. The next match would be the premier league fixture against Portsmout at the Stamford Bridge. Scolari gets a about 2 weeks with his team to work on the strategic side. I’m sure this 5-0 demolition of Milan would have put him at ease after we were shot out on Friday night. At least the last match happens to be a winning one for us. I badly wanted Chelsea to return victorious from Moscow. The wish has been fulfilled after about two and a half months!

I dont know why people call it a weakened Milan side.The defence and midfield had key players like Maldini,Gattuso,Seadof,Pirlo e.t.c.This certainly is not weak.Yeah,Kaka was missing but we too had a key striker[Drogba] who was missing.Infact some of our key players in defence[Calvaho],midfield[Essien,Joe Cole,Kalou] and attack[Drogba] did not start or play the game…Peace
Hello Blue Champions
Playing in my first season on an ameteur basis for a club in South Africa. As I stay in Cape Town. If clubs do their preparation and train hard then they shouldn’t lose because they prepared well.
On the other hand nothing in life is certain. Except death and taxes. Having not played the game for up to ten weeks, my ideology has changed slightly. On paper things look as if you should beat teams easily, but matches aren’t played on paper. We have Digital Satelite TeleVison (DSTV) in South Africa so I wouldn’t have watched the match unless it was shown on Chelsea TV as this programme is shown on a daily basis on one of the channels.
Congrats to the Chelsea team on winning AC Milan. Regardless if they had some key players missing, they shouldn’t have lost five goals to nil though. What a performance. This will improve the players confidence in the team and more importantly at this time the manager tactics. Remember players are playing for a place in the starting eleven so at least for now we can expect exceptional passages of play.
Wow BC…….Tats great news that Anil Ambani is set to takeover Newcastle United ………..it will be truly great for the club since it has been reported that 100 million pounds will be spent on transfers only to bolster the team if the takeover is completed……..not only this, if Anil does succeed there will be other billionaires trying to invest like Mukesh Ambani (another inter family rivalry)…….Birlas , Tatas etc….another reason to say EPL is the best and truly more exciting….
With Mittal having stake in QPR , it is good news that Anil is trying to buy Newcastle united and willing to spend 100 million pounds. The EPL certainly looks the most competitive.
we did well to achieve this, i thought this before but we should switch to a 4-4-2 variation, drogba likes to come back and defend whereas anelka likes to stay up front so we have a counter attacking edge as we dont have the paciest of teams
it would also open the way for youngsters to get more games like di santo
as for newcastle, id hope he could bring revolution newcastle and finally create a better competition at the top of the table
i bigged up anelka quite a bit when he came over, my friends (and mainly my dad) were all saying how he’d be a flop just like he was at liverpool (who he supports). I would love it if he really turned up the heat for us, i also feel sorry for him taking so much stick after coming into a squad like chelsea’s half way through a season.
I got even more cocky when he hit the bar and forced a good save in the first 10 minutes of his chelsea career, i probably shouldn’t have :P
also i really like newcastle so good for them, i supported them for about a year when i was 4 or 5 :D
robinho wants to come in chelsea….
A statement from Anil Ambani has refuted that claim, so that pours cold water on that rumor.
News today is that Scolari has ruled out Drogba for the game against Portsmouth. And it may not end there, so Anelka will definitely start in the first game, and Big Phil has already said that Sheva wont start. So that leaves us with just one recognised striker. I think he’ll play the 4-3-3 formation, after all he said that the match against Milan was a perfect dress rehearsal. Will be interesting to see the 4-3-3. Under Jose, we had the flying Robben and Duff and it was mesmerizing to watch. Under Grant, we played a 4-5-1 rather than a 4-3-3. Hopefully the system will be more dynamic under Scolari.
Cant wait for the Pompey game. UP THE CHELS!
HEY GUYS DID YOU SEEN DIABY TACKLE ON WESLY SNIJDER.HE IS A STUPID PLAYER.IN 2007 CARLING CUP FINAL HE COULD KILL OUR CAPITAN.SNIJDER IS OUT FOR 6 MONTHS.
ALL OF THE ARSENAL PLAYERS ARE STUPID.PLAYING AGAINST THEM IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE THEY ARE AIMING PLAYERS FEET NOT THE BALL.
yep very bad tackle i feel sorry for Sneijder cos he’s really great player and i think after he’s injury VDV definitely will go to Real Madrid ..
I see a lot of fans here are glory supporting asians, just dont come to stamford bridge and ruin our club and atmosphere like you have done to man utd.
please can someone tell me our the game played out. What was the first eleven. I’m really salivating
Cech (Cudicini 72′)
Ivanovic (Ferreira 61′), Alex, Terry (Carvalho 61′), A Cole
Ballack (Deco 45′), Mikel, Lampard
Wright-Phillips (Sinclair 77′), Anelka (Shevchenko 66′), Malouda
that was the starting 11 with subs. As you can see we played with a pretty strong side but its not our 1st side. Chelsea has way more depth then AC and it showed versus their weakened side. Woeful keeping by kalac and poor marking gifted us 3 of the goals and two of them were very good. Anelka played well and did some nice poaching, malouda was very good as well. It is still only a preseason and i doubt AC played with their hearts in it. Also not having their 1st attack meant that AC had no real attack since AC’s 2nd string is shit, this allowed chelsea more freedom because they didnt have to worry about the explosive pace of kaka.
CHELSEA MUST LEARN HOW TO KILL THE GAMES.THIS A WAY TO BE CHAMPION.
“Juventus Ready For A Double Swoop?”
“The Juventus transfer market may not yet be closed with reports still calling the names of Ivanovic and Stankovic ”
@ BC it seems Juventus know a great player when they see one !!! lets hope chelsea does everything in their power to keep him!!
@ 11 what are you some F***ing racist?
@ 16 he only said that the asians dont make a lot of sounds in old trafford. and allot of chelsea fans are racists if you diddnt know.
@16 its not racist its fact, the majority of asian people support man utd, some support liverpool and arsenal and now a lot are starting to support chelsea, but look how many asians are in the stands at old trafford and that is one of the reasons Old Trafford is so quiet these days. I just dont want that to happen to chelsea.
@17 is right about the lack of sound.
@16
then make them make noise. you guys tend to exclude people by their look. Chelsea fanbase is growing, isn´t that good?
@ 19 not allways. it depends on the fans. i hate glory hunters. then when chelsea fails they all leave. and some other people to dont want to name any but i wouldnt like anyone to be a fan off chelsea. i think even the asians that are big fan of chelsea thinks the same way. i dont think indians would like it if every paki was a chelsea fan. haha
haha i ment there are some peoples i dont want to be chelsea fans. i dont mean asians or black people or any race i mean like some peoples with personalities that i dont like. if this sentence makes more sence:S
@18 Zola – Legend .
You don’t want asian to support chelsea but chelsea needs them , one of the reason why they visited asia for pre-season tour. About the noise, I invite you to visit Eden Gardens to change your prespective..
I feel so isolated from the beautiful game
Glad to see our pre season is going great thus far
Woeful Milan……LOL
I think History FC fits em even more than Loserfools LOL
@21…so better clearly state who are those personalities rather than creating confusion and bad blood with your comments…BTW owner is a jew….so do u also hate him….
BTW why do u hate ‘some’ people…are u standing at some upper level wrt to them or what…
Zola @11
What race are you ?, I would like to know
Of what class are you ? (If you happen to be English )
What kind of education do you possess ?
What century do you live in ?

Joseholiday, shut up he didnt mean it in that way just relax. What has this blog become? we are all chelsea suporters and respect the club, anything other than club talk should be talked about elsewhere and not on this blog.

@11 – Zola – Legend.
Don’t spoil Zola name.. I think you must be a dejected Man U fan wandering and not knowing where to go
why do you asians get so mad. he diddnt mean anything bad. henry are you a dejected arsenal fan wondering and not knowing where to go after henry left.
get rid of these racists will you BC? giving both chelsea and this blog a bad vibe.
as soon as you said asians would ruin ‘the atmosphere’ and anyone defended that, that was really something else.
IS IVANOVIC LEAVIN US FOR JUVE?HE MUST START THE FIRST GAME .
@ 33 juve was just interested in him, dont think he will go.
@ 32 who the fvck are you calling a rasist!
@BC
Pls upload your Stamford Bridge pics and videos
waiting since a long time……
Hi BC, I told you just a few days back that I cannot see why ant good manager will want to offload a great striker like anelka. Thats exactly what we were about to do after Didi’s first season with us. We hire good strikers, waste them on the bench, play them out of position and play them in bit parts and when they fail to perform piracles, we hang them up.
That was exactly what grant and some of us did to Nico last seasom. if he were not a strong personality, his confidence and self belief would have plummetted for good. Am glad and feel vindicated that he is showing his true worth- a total striker- selfless, good control, good run onto thro balls, and opportunitistic. he may not have the hunger and the power of DIDI but he sure is a great all round striker. scolari i pray does not commit the crime of benching him thro use of that that infamous 4-3-3 formation which in reality under Grant was nothing but 4-5-1.
By the way, ravi at 22, I love the name- whats the meaning?
Peace guys- Grant is gone, so what else can be wrong again?
Meantime my starting line up against Portsmouth if Robinho comes will be-
————————-Cech—————–
—-Ivanovich—-Riccy—Terry—Cole—
——————–Mikel————
–Essien————Deco——-Lamps
———–Anelka——–Robinho——
Zola – Legend is an asshole.he brought racism matter in this blog .
@bluefan 31 – quality
@ 25 jose holiday – i was born in London and am half italian, went to all home games from the age of 9 – 14, i am now 18 and go to loughborough college and live in Leicester, which is the most multi-cultural city in england and have a few asian freinds and know a lot of asian people (a lot of whom support man utd, some liverpool and arsenal, it depends on who is winning). it is actually good to get some kind of discussion on here cuz usually it is quite boring with people coming out wiv ridiculous comments that really dont know nothing about football or chelsea.
Zola, cool off pls. This blog should focus on blues. Chelsea is a global brand- am an african from Ghana and blue blood runs thro my vein- possibly more than yu cos on top i have from chilhood also been number one fan of the azzuris (though i guess you must be too.) Even so i started supporting them before you were born, so i can say i have been a blue fan longer.
Lets chill guys and focus on football. Now that grant is gone the Jose wars have stopped- i hope we are not replacing those beautiful pro/anti jose battles for this.
hi M_D and Joe Blue where are you? What of israeli?
@37 mourofessien
Perfect formation u could be the blues’ boss LOL
@ 39 MourofEssien – my problem lies more with glory hunting fans that “support” (i use that word lightly) the big teams and go to the matches and sit there in silence because they dont know the songs, the history or much about the club, i know there is no rule about having to make noise but when the majority of the fans are these glory hunters, like at Man utd, it really has a negative effect on the club. And MOST (not all) of these glory hunters are asian, if you were to go out on the streets and ask an asian person who they support 90% would say a big team and not their local side. Probably 40% of other ethnic groups would say a big team and not their local side, thats what annoys me that so many asians are glory hunters.
MourofEssien you are obviously not a glory hunter as you have been supporting the club before abramovich arrived so i dont really have a problem with that, although you support Italy over Ghana, which i must ask why, that is quite bad to support another country over your own i hope it’s not because Italy have won world cups and Ghana havn’t.
i also like that formation! i hope robinho comes and we play like that.
this is only my opinion by the way, everyone else has their own views i just dont like the direction football is heading
thank you zola – legend!
I agree with ZOLA on this supporters debate, I much prefered it when I was the only one for my freinds who supported Chelsea. Now I have got about 20 of them who all think they know everything, it frustrates me to no end because now im seen as a ‘glory hunter’.
I have supported Chelsea for well over 10 years now.
Zola – the legend , Asians in UK would be imigrants and probably even the first generation. so forget the history.
. anyway , thanks for clarifications as your initial comment was just like fergie’s ..
@36 – MourofEssien
thanks . It is an indian name and means – Sun.
I like your formation, but I think Scolari will play 4-3-3 , with Maluda replacing Robinho .. With Drogba back, it will be that existing formation ..
Ivanoic should be not be sold to Juve as he can play as DM . We just have Obi for that position..
guys fifa did piece on zola here it is.
There have been few more universally liked and admired figures in world football over the last twenty years than Gianfranco Zola. Italian fans will remember him as the fresh-faced youngster who played second fiddle to the incomparable Diego Maradona at Napoli, and then went on to win the UEFA Cup with Parma.
English fans will remember him as the smiling face of Ruud Gullit’s cosmopolitan Chelsea side of the late nineties, with whom Zola won the 1997 FA Cup – making the second goal with an exquisite backheel.
After a stellar club career, in which he scored 194 goals at six different clubs, the elegant Sardinian attacker hung up his boots in 2005 after a spell at his hometown club Cagliari. He collected 35 caps for Italy along the way, and made a brief, ill-starred appearance at the 1994 FIFA World Cup USA™. Yet he was held in perhaps even greater esteem in England: awarded an OBE in 2004, he was also selected as the Football Writers’ Footballer of the Year in 1997, and named as one of the two forwards in Chelsea’s “Centenary Eleven” in 2005.
Since retiring from the professional game, Zola has settled comfortably into his new role as joint coach of the Italian U-21 side with his friend and former team-mate Pierluigi Casiraghi; his services are also in demand as a television pundit in his native Italy.
Now FIFA.com is giving you the opportunity to pose your own questions to one of the legends of the modern game.

Unlike the Have Your Say debates and other articles on the site, your questions will not be published on the site, but will instead be collected by members of our editorial network, with the best of the bunch put to Zola in our exclusive interview, which will appear on the site in the next few weeks.
If you’re lucky enough to have your question chosen, your screenname will appear on FIFA.com in the interview, for example:
Football2008: Was this 1970 final the best moment of your career?
Pele: It was a fantastic moment, etc, etc.
Feel free to send in as many questions as you like. We hope that you are lucky enough to have your question chosen but, if not, there will be another chance to ask one of your favourite football stars a question next month.

@36….very good point regarding Chelsea wasting players….but thats because Chelsea is a club in hurry…..we want to get success immediately and at any cost thats y we can’t wait for players to settle down…we would had sold off a player like C Ronaldo due to his initial no-result-show-boating antics….and thats also one of the reason our youth players are finding it very difficult to break in first team….
so thats the trade-offs needs to be made when trophies is main objective…
zola, blue_victoryAUS : So you mean to say chelsea fan base should not increase. There plans of expansion in asia is waste as all are glory hunters.
What wrong has a person done who has recently started watching footy and likes chelsea. Is it his fault that he was born late or started watching after roman came. Zola if cappellio being an italian can be an english national coach cant mourofessien being from ghana love italian football.
Its big headed people like you who destroy the whole concept of universal brotherhood.
enjoy your life !!
@51 – Ignore them .. Confused people wandering here and there..
@ 52 – hahaha
@51 – No, it is his fault if his reason for supporting chelsea is because they are winning trophies.
@53 – How the u know . is it because ur friends. u seem to say u know “MourofEssien” before roman era, but his name rings more bell after roman era
MourofEssien – No way I am commenting that your are not a true fan , but this person is sort of confused personality as others say..
@31 – What a great discovery …. BTW, I would know whom to support if Henry left Arsenal…
Zola, its true i love italian football with a passion. Its true also that am a realist. Until the last world cup Ghana never made it to the senior world cup so naturally i never had to make a choice between my country and italia. The first match however ghana ever played at the world cup was against italy. Who did i support? Italy. Why? Simple- my calculation was that ghana would not go far but italy had a realistic chance of making it to the final and winning it. After ghana’s loss to italy, of course i rooted for my country in the other group matches which we won and qualified. You know what, for all my love for italy, if the two had met in the finals, my support would have then been for ghana cos then i would think we were in with a real chance.
ravi, i love the name even more. Let me confess, Ra is an ancient word for the sun. In my native tongue, vi means the child of, and for years now i have always said, the name i wil give my sun when i have one is Ra-vi, which wil mean, son of the sun- so you see in india and in africa, we are on same wavelength- the human brotherhood.
+1. Who more? :)
..] City have been somewhat erratic since the arrival of cashed-up owners Abu Dhabi United Group. They have fluctuated between sheer brilliance, such as their 6-0 mauling of Portsmouth, and inexplicable mediocrity, such as their Carling Cup defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion. ..]
Hi! I was surfing and found your blog post… nice! I love your blog. :) Cheers! Sandra. R.
