This was exactly what Scolari ordered for. Last season we played in a more competitive MLS league right in the middle of their season. This time Scolari did not want a competitive friendly. He just wanted to try out certain things and also wanted the boys to run around a bit. In all this, he also wanted to win and play in such a way that the team’s confidence level go up.
Don’t let your expectations shoot up just yet. We were supposed to knock these Chinese teams out. As Joe Cole pointed out, in terms of physical skills and attributes, our opponents were way too low to pose us any kind of challenge.
Finally, Anelka has a very good match, few thousand miles away from the UK. Good for his confidence. I knew already that he is a team player and all. That’s never been my gripe on him. On the pitch, he should stop behaving and reacting like a want-away player. He should care more about the possession he loses, the mistakes he commits etc.
In any team sport, when a team loses, the level of disappointment of all the players may not be the same. Some might feel more disappointed and some might feel ‘at least I scored a goal’. Anelka to me, is not someone who does not care too much about the team. It is this aspect of Anelka that I can’t stand. Anyway, for the 6 months or 12 months that he’s gonna stay with us, I wish he makes up for his lack of passion with his goals and assists.
Now that’s 2 goals in 2 matches for Franco. I read reports and remarks that he could have done better. That’s ok but he has made two finishes that have seen the ball hit the net. May be it’s too early to confine him to just the domestic cups. In terms of contribution to the team, if he’s better than Pizarro and somewhat equal to Kalou, I’d play him for short periods in premier league games. For starters, I’ll have him play in every single pre-season match.
The Robinho story is not over yet. Four important parties are interested in this deal – Kenyon, Scolari, Robinho and his agent. Looks like it’s only a matter of time before he signs for us. Joe Cole’s performance yesterday must have reminded Scolari of the sweet problem he needs to find a solution for. Robinho’s arrival could mean some big names starting on bench. I’ll leave it to Scolari. He’s being paid a fortune to do his job.
JM has signed Sully Muntari from Portsmouth, which could mark the end of his pursuit for Lampard. Let’s keep Lampard and along with him the average age of the squad which was 28 years last season as compared to the 26.7 of Man Utd. A difference of just 1.3 years? What the heck?!

Anelka’s performance so far has also not made me his fan but I think yours impression of his is somewhat off the mark and thats because looks can be deceptive…that guy rarely changes his grim facial expressions even when he scores and add to it his reputation of being one who sulks big time…this all makes fans think that he doesn’t identify with the team…
regarding squad’s average age I think we really have old legs, in midfield at least…3 30+ in midfield and that too in a fast league like EPL is not a good sign….this is gonna hurt us…
Robinho plays on left and Cole on right, so Robonho’s signing doesn’t seem detrimental to Cole’s position in squad….
I prefer a midfield of Essien(as box to box midfielder )..Cole and Robinho on flanks..Deco for creativity….others as per coach’s discern…
I think we should sign Ashley young.he is amazing.
in scolari’s recent interview about mind games, he said he was with Chelsea for 2 years! I’m scared he might leave after 2 seasons if he doesn’t want to extend his contract he will leave! That sux he is and amazing manager!
@1 Ashley young is on the verge of signing a 5 yr contract with Aston Villa …….so forget it…..about scolari …..he will most probably retire after 2 yrs ……his stint with Chelsea will be the last of his magnificent job as a manager…..

thn y is dailymail reporting robinho ready 2 fill drogba’s boots?????
he can play both, plays wing for club alot i think, but he’s a second striker for brazil, at least on pes 2008 :D
FOR BEEN CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE AND EPL CHELSEA NEED A LITTLE LUCK.I HOPE AVRAM GRANT LUCK REMAINS IN CHELSEA.I HOPE CHELSEA FANS READY A GREAT CHANT FOR SCOLARI NEXT SEASON.IN SOME CHELSEA GAMES THE STADIUM WAS QUIET.I HOPE THAT DOESNT HAPPEN NEXT YEAR.
SCOT SINCLAIR HAD JOINT TO CHELSEA CAMP YESTERDAY.HIS ABILITY IS GREAT AND HE CAN REPLACE ROBBEN WITH HIS SPEED.FOR BE THE TRUE CHAMPIONS CHELSEA MUST DOUBLE ARSENAL/LIVERPOOL/MAN UT.
35m FOR ROBINHO IS MADNESS.BERBATOV IS BETTER AND GREATER THAN HIM.
we should avoid robinho. we should avoid him at all costs. why do we need him at all? why don’t we get a proper striker while di santo matures for a year? scott sinclair chances will come down heavily after di santo’s recent exploits. fours year down the line, will it be sinclair and di santo playing as centre forwards, in a 4-4-2?
Average age?? yea wtf??it depends on who united play…anderson or scholes in the middle…?nani or giggs??
Congrats on the win guys!
Robinho is not better than kalou…..i think we must sale a right back….n malouda…. we must have won the final we had kalou in intial stages….instead ..of ineffective malouda…

Well said Michaeljons…
“This was exactly what Scolari ordered for. Last season we played in a more competitive MLS league right in the middle of their season. This time Scolari did not want a competitive friendly.” … This is incorrect these tours were organised well before Scolari’s appointment.

I knew that these tours were organised much before Scolari was appointed. All I was saying was this was the kind of pre-season he’d have wanted. “This was exactly what Scolari ordered for” was more of an expression or a phrase like ‘that’s what the doctor ordered’.
The choice of where to play the pre-season friendlies are generally out of the managers’ purview as these decisions are all of marketing nature than of footballing nature.
