Guangzhou 0-4 Chelsea | Thumping win kicks off the season
Thumping start for the season. Though the Chinese team did not challenge us too much with their fragile defence, Scolari can be quite pleased with this performance. I didn’t get to see the match. I couldn’t even watch the highlights last night as I was trying to ‘upgrade’ my laptop from vista to xp. I did see the goals though.
I’m happy for Kalou. He scored the first Chelsea goal of this season. He is a hardworking lad but he has to really prove to Phil that he can play as a striker which was his natural position in Feyenoord. Today’s goal would surely help him. Just when I make up my mind about living without Lampard, he comes up with a goal like that. Oh, I loved it. If you haven’t watched it yet, watch it right now. He is one midfielder who simply can’t stop scoring. Few more goals in the next few matches and Chelsea FC would be under even more pressure. There are certain players with whose form directly influences the team’s fortunes. Lampard is one of such players. I can’t remember Chelsea losing a match where Lampard was brilliant. Thanks to England missing the Euro, Lampard has taken a nice long break. If he is fit and if he is in fine form, he’s gonna propel Chelsea on his own. All this only if an agreement is reached.
That little boy did score too. If Franco di Santo is showing some promise in the training ground too, I’d stick him up with Drogba or Sheva instead of giving another chance to Anelka. I always thought Anelka is a passer-by. He happens to be in Chelsea at this point of time. He may not see himself here next season unless he does not mind that big undeserving pay packet. Why am I picking on Anelka again? I don’t know. There’s something about him. There is one way he can shut my mouth forever - 30+ goals this season. How many of you would bet on it? SWP had to score when you least expect him. It wasn’t meant to be his show today but still with 4 minutes to go, he scored that goal that none of the defenders were interested in stopping.
Well, everything can’t go as scripted. Bosingwa came limping off due to what is now called as a muscle strain. This pretty ordinary sounding ‘muscle strain’ will be further assessed over the next 24 hours. Sad start for Bosingwa. If Bosingwa does not play next match, who will start, Belletti or Ferreira? Of course both will play as these are just friendlies. The question now is, who actually is the second choice, if Bosingwa is the first choice. Why do we need to have three right backs? Either Belletti or Ferreira should be leaving. I like Belletti better than Ferreira but when it comes bread and butter defending, Ferreira edges out Belletti.
Scolari said this after the match. As the official website put it, he couldn’t resist praising Deco for his part.
I was relaxed. It is always good to win the game but it doesn’t matter much the result, the team is not ready yet. They have some difficulties physically and this they will sort out. I think it is normal for the first game. The players have been training well for two weeks, strong training that is more for fitness than for the technical side. All the players need to make a difference in the season because the season is very difficult for us, but Deco is a fantastic player and in this team I think he helps his friends to play more than they play in the last season. Sometimes he is a different player because his style is different but it’s a style, with all the players together, that is fantastic for us. I think I have players with experience and I think I have some young boys in my team and I have players who have experience in the Premier League.
Looks like Scolari was quite happy. He looks to me like a very sentimental man. He must have wanted to start with a win. Certainly it’s a relief, even for the players. I liked that fact that he played 4-2-2-2. Incidentally, that’s the formation I prefer to play with Chelsea in FIFA08 on XBOX 360. You have two defensive midfielders who can fill in the gaps while the full backs are on attacking duty. Apart from the attacks initiated by the full backs, the other attacks would generally be through the centre, which makes full advantage of the world class attacking midfielders we have. In short 4-2-2-2 is something that can play to Chelsea’s strength. We need to use the two defensive midfielers and two attacking midfielders. This is the best formation to achieve that.
And in transfer news, Real Betis are after Pizarro. Anything over 1 million pound, we stand to gain. We’ve virtually got nothing from him. Let him go. He is a good player who could never settle down in Chelsea’s system and the English league. He may get his touch back in Betis. There is also this rumour that SWP could move to Aston Villa. My feelings are exactly the same I had for Pizarro. The one reason why some players are unwilling to move and other clubs do not approach our players so easily is the hefty pay check. Players who leave Chelsea for second tier clubs will have to accept a pay cut or Chelsea will have to structure the deal in such a way that they get less transfer fees but the salary level is maintained, like they did for Damien Duff. But I don’t see the club doing this little sacrifice for the players who did not offer them during their days. It’s good for Chelsea and SWP himself that he leaves. Otherwise they are wasting each other’s time. Finally, Robinho was reported to have signed a new 5 year contract with Madrid but there is no official confirmation of the same.
I’m getting highly and prematurely excited about Franco di Santo already. I wanna see more of him! Now that we have Scolari, who was the national coach of Brazil, why can’t we get those 16-year old prodigies from Brazil, who otherwise would go to Real Madrid and Barcelona? It’s nice to have one or two of those ‘next Maradona’ or the ‘next Pele’!

that was amazing your so good at describing stuff!i love deco he will do amazing
3. mike ayad
essien and mikel can get the defending roles while ballack, lampard and deco get the attacking roles.
we could try putting joe cole behind the striker!!! so the formation would be - 4-2-2-1-1.
or we could put deco behind the striker and joe cole right attacking mid with lampard on the left.

Scolari will wtich from 4-2-2-2 to 4-3-3 over to 4-1-2-1-2 formations and maybe might chuck in a 4-4-2. We where origanally meant to play a 3-4-3 last night but franco di santo got put to the bench in the last minute and bosyy started.
5. Den
and BC Belletti is in London finalising a transfer to Benfica, i reckon he will start ivanovic at right-back i was very impressed with his 40 minutes

@3
so the formation would look like this
————–cech———-
bosingwa——-riccy——jt—–cole
———–mikel—–essien
—-ballack/lamps———joey
————deco———–
————-drogs/di santo
now that i look at this, this is very good. this is the perfect way to shut up alex ferguson

If chelsea but sebastian or eto:then chelsea is ready for EPL and Champions League.
belleti and ben haim will leave chelsea next week.wright philips is a good player but he is not good enough for chelsea.I still remember his bad play againts totenham in carling cup final.

no need of eto give disanto oppurtunity eto only if drogba leaves and play di santo ahead of sheva remind SAF of his age
12. churchill
we should not waste our time and money on robinho, i dont think he would be a very good fit for chelsea. we should look for young players like di santo, escpecially an attacking midfielder. we have 3 players that are 30 or older in that position, and they wont always be very good
13. churchill
river plate have bid on pizzaro. he’s definately on his way out
14. churchill
no actually chelsea offered pizzaro to river, and they said no.
15. Pensioner
Take a look at this forward team:
ET’O-DROGBA-ROBINIHO-HUNTELAAR
Wow. I’m already frightened!
16. cap123
schweinsteiger is the only guy i want now! get rid of SWP (sorry big guy but you’re not quite fitting are you?), malouda, pizzaro, anelka, sheva, and drogba if he has to. Then give di santo a chance! i’d have to see more of him, all i’ve seen is the goal and him hitting the post in the highlights, but him and kalou could grow up together and make a beautiful partnership
kalou and di santo aren’t going to win us anything on their own just yet though are they?
17. Zola Is God
we have brought one young prodigy from portugal. nickname is Kaby cant remember his real name off the top of my head.

@ CAP123
Sorry?
Et’o and Huntelaar to challenge for the league and Champions league.
Drogba and Robinho to win league cup and FA Cup.
Cheers

Chelsea are going to land Nikola Kalini? —The Future Of Croatian Football—He is a 20s striker(187cm).a great young striker and a good replace for pizzaro.
I LIKE TO SEE schweinsteiger AND ETO INSTEAD OF DROGBA AND WRIGHT PHILIPS NEXT SEASON.
20. churchill
yea i just want scweinstager. have Chelsea even looked into placing a bid for him? he would be much better than robinho
21. BuildChelsea
@17……yes it looks like they might land Nikola Kalinic…….17 goals in 25 games…….he should be signed and tried out in the reserves…..
22. xerxesk
we need a defending midfielder TOO REPLACE MAKA start with Jérémy Toulalan. IF we play 4 2-2-2 then we need a replacement for mikel and essien if one gets injured.
23. BuildChelsea
@16…..His name is Aliu Djalo …..’Kaby’……he is an attacking midfield player from Portugual……
24. Denver
@19 BuildChelsea can you give more detail about this player…..
@20 xerxesk i aggree we need a back DM ……Toulalan or….. maybe, Veloso …? but remember Ivanovic can play that position as well. Based on what i have heard he is very calm and composed on the ball plus his passing is great !
WE ALL WANT SCHWEINSTEIGER !!!!!!!!! and HUNTALAAR (if drogba leaves) we should allow Sheva to go back to Italy…. he is already injured and the season has not even started yet …..!!!
25. churchill
i wonder if there is any way to get peter kenyon to know that we all want schweintager…
26. Denver
@ 25 churchill…. yea…. cant you help us BC!!!…. lets send in a poll!!!! with the percentages!! the “Lets get SCHWEINSTEIGER” plea!!!
27. Chris
Despite the official 4-2-2-2, I thought it was more 4-1-3-2 considering the amount of time Essien spent bombing down the left hand side! Lampard, Ballack and Deco with Mikel or Essien behind them sounds very appealing indeed. Who needs wingers when we’ve got Ash and Bosingwa?!
28. Johnarejr
If only Chelsea would play a preseason match or two here in the US again. Our MLS (unfortunately we don’t have sense enough to call it football) teams are in mid-season form and would pose a stiff test for any European club. That’s why JM brought them over here for the All-Star match last season and against DC United and other teams before. Phil, next year how about a match against DC again?
Glad that di Santo and Kalou scored. Is this Argentine kid the kind of young gun I’ve hoped for? Whipping Chinese pharmacist isn’t proof enough. But, a good start. If Kalou finishes a little better than last season, he may turn into something very special.
Lamps, please stay and sign a contract. Schweinstiger, only at the right price and we get rid of SWP.
Oh, and Sir Alex is talking smack about Chelsea with a Portugese manager in his first season. Gee, I thought he learned not to do that back in the 04-05 season.

@ 24 Denver ……..Nikola Kalinic is a Croatian football striker currently playing for Hajduk Split and the Croatian national team. Croatia manager Slaven Bilic? has described him as “the future of Croatian football”.He was a key player in the Croatian national under-21 team during his younger youth playing years. He also represented his country at under 17 and under 19 youth level. He first made a name for himself at international level at age 17 during the 2004/05 UEFA European Championship when he finished the attempted campaign as the top scorer with 11 goals. He finished his 2007/08 season at 5th place with Hajduk in the league, also helping them reach the final of the Croatian Cup in the same season and ended with a total of 26 goals.Plus he is only 20 yrs old and is 1.87 m (6 ft 1+1/2 in) tall….impressive….
30. CFCIR
PIZZARO——–>Nikola Kalinic
SWP————->SCHWEINSTEIGER
HUNTLAIR——>DROGBA
31. xD!!
i think we should give another opportunity to pizzarro , remenber that this is his firt season so we must give him another chanse , however , chelsea should sell tal behaim and anelka . anelka has played more han 15 games even more i think and has score 2 or 3 goals . think chelsea was desperated so that they bougth that shit … we dont really need robihno he is so skinny and maybe we need to give more opportunities to young people . come on chelsea !!
32. BuildChelsea
@31……no opportunities to pizarro and anelka…….we don’t need players like them…….chelsea wasn’t desperate when we bought them …….Grant was …….true about robinho though …….he doesn’t have the physique for the EPL…..he took a few yrs to get used to the La Liga …..he will take even more to get used to the EPL…….
33. BuildChelsea
By the way……. Lee Sawyer , Michael Mancienne , Michael Woods , Sam Hutchinson , Rhys Taylor have been promoted to the first team…….i guess scolari was offloading Pizarro, Tal Ben Haim , belletti and a few others to clear space for youngsters ……that looks promising……in addition to the above we have Franco Di Santo and Scott Sinclair too……fergie ,you arrogant fool….. u call this team old???
34. mike ayad
this is a really suitable formation for chelsea(4-1-3-2):
————————————–cech—————————————-
bosingwa—————-carvalho————terry—————————cole
———————————mikel/essien————————————-
—————ballack—————–deco————–lampard——————-
—————————-kalou—————-drogba——————————
if u guys really want joe cole to play then we could put one person right behind one striker but i would not prefer it. you guys love joe cole and i dont really think he is really gd. anyway if one of the midfielders get injured joe cole can play anywhere of 3 attacking mids!
35. BlueFan #1
we must have at least 2 defensive midfield players know when bouth ashley and bosingwa are very offensive. the line up @ 34 is to dangerus when playing against strong teams.
36. Denver
@ 29 BuildChelsea Thanks for that information man ….!!
37. xerxesk
CHANGE THE THEME THIS SITE HAS GONE SO UGLY. LAST THEME WAS PERFECT.
38. Abay Gelanew
this is nice opportunity to give chance to youngester like di santo, i would like the formation 4-2-2-2
bosoniga-carvaiolo-jhon tery-a.cole
esein-mikel
lamps - deco
di santo/sheva - dider
i want to leave some of the chelsea players like p. ferrera, pizaro, telbiniham and anellica.
the new manger must give chance to the youngester .
kalu, di santo, sheva and j.tery are my favorite player
i luv the 4-2-2-2 set up as well but where does that leave joe cole? W/ ballack, deco, and lampard playing in the attacking midfield roles, mikel and essien in the holding roles, players like cole and malouda who are natural wingers could find themselves out of position. Not that I care much about malouda but joe cole i love.
