Let’s be Frank about this . .

The Frank Lampard episode is kind of becoming nasty, isn’t it? My stance is quite clear. I want Frank Lampard to stay at Chelsea FC’s terms. But I think he’s going. With Jose on the other side of the table, it’s most likely that he’s going. Let’s see this from various sides – from Lampard, Chelsea FC and FC Inter.

Lampard is in his last year of contract. Any other player would have already bought out his contract. Lampard has not, because he genuinely wants to stay at Chelsea, but at his terms. Chelsea FC is offering a 4 year contract of 150,000 pounds. In my opinion, this is a massive contract. Chelsea FC has truly honoured Lampard for his relentless services by offering such a huge contract for a 30-year old. How many 30-year olds would get such a contract? That too, you can’t really say that his best is yet to come. The team is no longer built around him. Don’t mistake me. I’m a great fan of Lampard. Given the current circumstances, he must be grateful for such a contract. If I were negotiating on behalf of Chelsea FC with Lampard’s agent I would not have gone beyond a three year contract at 120,000 pounds a week.

Lampard is asking for a five year contract at 150,000 pounds. That’s him or his agent being too greedy. Frank Lampard at 34 or 35 years – how effective would he be? Would his output be worth 150,000 pounds a week? I have my doubts. May be, of late, he has set his minds on FC Inter. At the same time, he does not want to be the one to make the initiative of joining FC Inter. He might be expecting Chelsea FC to turn down his contract expectation so that he’d be left with no option other than to join FC Inter.

Kenyon has other ideas. He says Lampard would either accept Chelsea’s offer or see out his contract. Would Lampard be in a position to get a 150,000 pounds a week, at the end of 08-09 season? I doubt and I guess his agent would be doubting that. That’s why I don’t see Lampard seeing out his contract. Either he signs a contract with Chelsea or he joins FC Inter. I don’t see any other option. The offer made by FC Inter is not better than the Chelsea offer. FC Inter are only offering 120,000 pounds a week in a four year contract which can extend to five years if he wins the champions league.

I’d say the Chelsea offer is lot better. He gets a lengthy contract, lots of money, gets to stay in London, play with his buddies, plays to the fans that love him and plays in a league that suits him best. If he wants to re-unite with Jose Mourinho and if that is on top of his list, then so be it. It’s no surprise that he wants to join Jose. It was under Jose, Lampard became a star, he won the runner up for world player of the year. Lampard was never accepted as a good player and was never put in the same league of his midfield contemporaries. May be he is still not regarded by many as such. Jose made him think that he is special and he is the best midfielder in the world and went around saying that. Just as the way a lot of players wanting to re-join their mentors, Lampard is itching to join back Jose.

Knowing that he is in the last season of his contract at Chelsea, Jose would try to nick him at all costs. He can wait till the next season but he wants to make an impression at Inter. He needs his most reliable players – Lampard is the one that is within reach.

If Lampard wants to join FC Inter, he should make it pretty clear and leave. To make the best out of the situation by charging with a ‘150k a week – 5 year’ contract, he is just proving that he is no different than the general league of players who have only one thing in mind. He should realise that he is already a Chelsea legend and by playing a few more years in Chelsea, his name would be permanently etched in the Chelsea all time hall of fame.

I love Lampard. He personifies Chelsea spirit. He is the consummate professional. He has played an unforgettable role in all of our recent successes. He is the core of this Chelsea team. I wish and hope he stays with Chelsea. I don’t care so much about the non-core players who are always a floating group. They come and go. But players like Terry, Lampard, Joe Cole, Drogba, Essien and Cech are the heart and soul. They should remain. As much as I want Lampard to stay, I don’t want the club to succumb to his unreasonable demands. I guess his future would be resolved this weekend. I hope it is in our favour.

Do you want Andrea Pirlo to join Chelsea?

BC, This article is all based on the fact that lampard is offered 150 K for a 4 year contract. From where did you get this value of the contract and length of contract. Till now i have read 120 k, 130K ,140K ,150K in various reports and 2 yr and 4 yr deal. None of them has any proof or backing. neither from cfc nor from lampard (or his agent). What cfc is saying is “good contract” and what lampard is saying is “not good enough”.This is happening for last 2 years now.

secondly even if inter pays less money to lampard he will be earning more because of the tax system in italy.

My view is its not about money alone. It all started when sheva and ballack came and were given 130K salary. Sheva at age 30 was given a 4/5 yr contract. however the long serving , constant performer was not considered for such wages. More over it was jose who really made him believe that he is a worlds best midfield player and then his sacking. all have to do a lot with this.

Do i want him to see here : i would love to but the way he has been treated by the board compared to other players i feel he would leave.

WE can sign moutinho but we’ll not be fine. Sorry to snap your illusions. We’re talking about the premiership here. Ask someone like veron. Ask Malouda, ask sheva.
On the other hand. I think chelsea cant play the sezky football with Lampard at the heart of things. Check our most entertaining games last season, he either wasn’t on the pitch or he wasn’t with the action
On the other hand, who says phil will play it sezky. He gave brazil mechanical football during his tenure if I remember well.

Offer to pay Frank Lampard (vice captain) 140k a week for 4 years.

Make a 1 year extension clause.

Or get a new Lampard fitter and younger.

    They are out there.

    Captain 150k

    vice captain 140k

    Players 125k

    Cheers

That is exactly why I keep on pushing CFC to change their squad.

You can’t depend on one or two players. Period. Brazil in France ‘98 look what happened in the final.

When you rely on one or two (Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba) people in the success of a team that’s when the nonsense begins.

That’s why I say don’t break the bank for Ricardo Kaka or offer man city 4m – 8m for Gelsen Fernandes so that if one player is suspended or injured or goes threw a dry spell there is someone else to take up where he left off.

I see Frank Lampard as a holding midfield player who can control the tempo of the game and that is a rare talent. With the right coaching (physically and mentally) Gelsen Fernandes could take his place.

Whilst Jon Obi Mikel in my point of view is just a defensive holding midfield and doesn’t have both dimensions to his game, mainly offense and defense. He just has defense.

I’ll stop at this point, but the morale of the story is that Chelsea (CFC) needs a B-A-L-A-N-C-E in their squad.

    This is the fun bit:

Who wants to be around Josie Mourinho?

You must read John Grisham’s “The Broker”!

I’m going to laugh if Frank Lampard goes to FC Inter.

    Cheers

  10. avatar 10 | Pensioner Reply to this comment

    Makelele is Makalele.

    Gelsen Fernandes is Gelsen Fernandes.

Jon Obi Mikel is Jon Obi Mikel.

I would be going crazy to sign Gelsen Fernandes. He can defend and score. Gelsen Fernandes is the new “Frank Lampard.”

But he is unique in his own way eg. shots etc.

Lampard might be on his way, in a roundabout way to Barca too.
    Stranger things have happened.

In the last few years Chelsea have have problems buying players and ending up getting them at inflated prices.

Now Chelsea have problems selling players….

As a Chelsea fan I am only interested what happens on the pitch

but I think Mr RA should loosen up a bit…

cos he’s not exactly running his club like others and shouldn’t play favourites and pay more to guys like Sheva but be stingy to Lamps and others… Oil prices are going up … Mr RA is making a real big bundle… I’m bicycling to work now….. I say give Lamps 150,000 a week…. It’s still extra change to RA… No good pretending Chelsea is an ordinary club with finances & budgets .. etc .. blah blah…… Ask Kenyon….. he knows Chelsea isn’t going to make a profit for an eternity…. Let Chelsea continue to be a plaything….

AND LET THE GOOD TIMES CONTINUE TO ROLL !

  16. avatar 16 | JoseHoliday Reply to this comment

BTW BC, I bet the prices of everything in London were unbelievable compared to good o’l Asia ……

Well.when Mr RA’s making a killing with the upswing in oil prices and snapping up all the best real estate in London and Europe with the plummeting of prices for fancy estates
( a tidy profit he’ll milk outta that stuff too later, probably he’d buy the Sistine Chapel if it were up for sale too )

LET Lamps have his few extra millions , I say ( and make us happy in the process )

What ? not giving it outta principle ?

    What principles?

Sheva is / was an institution in Italy , therefore 130,000 or is it 150,000 a week ?
Ballack is / was an institution , therefore 130,000 a week
Terry is of the same lot
Lamps is a Chelsea and England institution, therefore he should get as much as then first three .

But if this stuff goes on,we’ll all end up in an institution :club, owner, players and fans

Lampard should go now..he is holding club to ransom…anyways he is dying to join his old mentor so he is just making leeways for his exit..if he really thinks he deserves 150k at age of 34 when he can’t run even at present than he is living in a fool’s paradise…club shoud now move on and bring in younger replacements rather than hiring others rejects like Deco…
    Auguero,Lulinha must be brought….

BC, its not about the money, i guess, he wants to be sold, thats why he is making this extravagant demands. Only a fool would agree with his demands. RA sell him. I don´t want to hear our player to shout that he´s being treated like a slave.

  21. avatar 21 | cfcir Reply to this comment

Lampard could make himself a true legend for chelsea and stay until 34 or 35 years.like schols and giggs in Man UT.if want to join jose.so chelsea must forget him and sell him.
chelsea has 33 players.this number must change to 21 or 22 players.then luis philip must but 4 or 3 players to reach 25 powerful squad.
    Anelka/beletti/philips/ben haim/ferriera/malouda/pizzaro/drogba/lampard/sheva/makelele
    must leave chelsea .
then:eto/robinho/sebastian/huntlair must come to chelsea.this team will be a young team with a top experience.the year average will be 23 years old.a team like arsenal but with better and wiser players with a good experience and with a top class manager.

Hell fuck the 15 mill, do straight swap and i’d be happy. Lampard is great but my fav player is j.cole so as long as he stays im aok with any other transfers(well cept for cech and terry i guess)

I got the financial figures from a BBC article. Irrespective of the accuracy of the amounts involved, we can still discuss the topic in the same spirit. Because for most of the stuff that we talk about we may not have solid proof. We say Sheva and Ballack came in with 130k salary. The proof would only be the sports websites and not the official Chelsea website, which never gives out these information. Now on to the topic.

At hindsight a 130k salary for Sheva looks attrocious. A week before his signing, it looked proper (by Chelsea terms I mean). The Sheva that I knew in 2006 at age 30 is way above in value than the Lampard I know in 2008 at age 30. In other words, Sheva deserved to get that contract but didn’t do justice later on. Ballack came in as a free player. He must have cost a lot if he had, say, two years left in his contract. Also Madrid were trying to get him. We had to offer something better.

On the whole, the whole transfer fees and salary fees in Chelsea did not have too much of a structure. We got the players on board as soon as possible so we can start winning. If the Board goes comparing the salary of each of the players and see that we need to correct the salary strucutre, it would be a massive and futile exercise. If Roman thinks of starting to spend his money wisely and if it had to start with Lampard, it’s just Lampard’s bad luck.

I don’t agree on his ‘treatment’ thing. He is a legend and is being treated so by the fans, managers, board and even Roman. You see the Chelsea officials come out and saying how great Lampard is and how important he is. This would not happen for Sheva or Ballack. So I think Lampard is treated quite honourably. If Lampard is offered 120k while Ballack gets 150k, I don’t see this as an insult in any way. I guess, now it’s in Lampard’s court.

Wonderful article mate………..hats off[for reply to nihongo]………..this is the blog i love where chelsea comes in front of players and managers.
my guess is that it’s not only due to money but i guess it’s his last chance for a big move to foreign league[which very few english players do]and be successful in there………………media has been nearly 100% consistent in their views that lamps is holding for 5 year deal as highest paid player.
he is a legend irrespective of whether i rate him or not………..he should come out and say he wants to move on to foreign league.

it’s good to see that finally our academy players[which are damn talented] to break through.
deco is an excellent playmaker[as evident from euros] and i guess 2 years is good as we don’t want to take a risk…………he can always get an extension if he performs.
this season has been pathetic for me…………my board marks, roger federer, chelsea, barca, milan everyone won sweet f*ck all…………….i m starting a new phase of my life……….i will be off to do b.tech in august………hopefully this season will be rocking.
and ya,i absolutely love our new home kit……..

well the thing is lampard obviously want to retire at this club, but from chelsea’s point of view, in 3/4 years time, lampard wont be able to put in the same kind of performances, he might be schevchenko by then. But we still offer a 4 year deal, i think we should give lampard a 5 year deal but let him earn his bonuses for keeping form through pass completion and goal tally
worst comes to worst, we could sell him and drogba to bring in michael johnson from manchester city who is very promising and adriano who is younger and does abit more with the ball than drogba

I would swap Lampard for Balotelli . Our midfield is crowded – Ballack, Essien, Joe Cole, John Obi , Deco leaving Lampard.

In Addition Maluda , Kalou, SWP all can play in midfield.

Use Lampard to prize out Balotelli . He is fast , strong and well suited for EPL . More-over he is 10 years younger to Lampard.
