I maintain that scolari is too clever to offload a quality player like belleti. why will ant good manager get rid of such a talenter player. Bosingwa is great at defending- bel is better at attacking- those two should go ahead of paulo for me. bel can also be great utility- midfield, right wing what have you.

The problem with the Portugese team ,in my opinion, is that they don’t have the muscle which in European football is very important now.

I guess to win trophies on a regular basis you need :

1. Muscle and power
2. Skill and tactics
3. Money & Talent & creativity
4. Personality & the will / drive to win
5. Leadership & management
6. Luck (to a certain extent)

(hope I didn’t sound like a school tecaher )

JM had most of the most of the boxes ticked and he brought us glory !
I hope Big Phil preparing well in the coming weeks and do well too next year.

The difference was between Alex Ferguson, a manager I loath but respect, who had years of experience at the highest level and Avram Grant, a nice-but-dim manager, who’s experience was at a very low level. The Chelsea players nearly won both leagues, unfortunately they were failed by their manager and board. A superior manager would have taken the players he had, a squad recognised to be one of the best, some people say even the best, in the world and won at least one of those leagues. There was nothing wrong with that squad; it only took a superior manager to get the best out of it. Chop and change all you want, in the end if the person making the final decisions is not up to it, it won’t do a bit of good. You shout for power but tactics, guile and shrewdness were what were lacking, not power.
