Chelsea 2-0 Fenerbahce | Scousers Again!

So it’s the scousers again. Chelsea did not play very well but if one team deserved to win at Stamford Bridge last night it certainly was Chelsea. It’s fair to say Fenerbahce flattered to deceive for all the hype. Either they’re little over rated or are more inconsistent than us at the moment. Whatever, thanks for that crucial own goal. I mean, thanks.

Chelsea started exactly the way I wanted them to. From the word go, they made their intentions very clear. They tried to make something meaningful out of every time they had the ball. That put Fener on the back foot as they started to realise that it’s not that easy to contain Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Honestly I was disappointed to see 4-3-3 with Maka in the line-up and Essien as the right back. But the fact was Fener did not stretch us. They were not that threatening. We could lose the ball cheaply and still wait for Fener to waste their possession. Fener did not play like this was their most important match for their club in many seasons. They had their moments in the game but it’s fair to say we did not have to be at our best to beat them.

I had written earlier that Fenerbahce is an easy draw but not a good draw for Chelsea. The problem with drawing Fener is that, we had just played Olympiakos. Have a look at this champions league run. Who all have we played so far? An ever-weakening Valencia, a beatable Schalke, unknown Rosenborg, unimpressive Olympiakos and now over-hyped Fenerbahce. And now, we have to face a strong team in the semi finals. We have not been really tested so far and now comes a big leap in challenge. On the other hand, Liverpool has eliminated a strong Inter and a stronger Arsenal who ousted Milan. They must be sharper than us for the semi final.

Avram Grant was very critical about the advancement of the Everton match. Now that we are in the semi finals, do you know that because of the Everton advancement we would have three more days to prepare than Liverpool. Either AG did not realise this or did not think we would make it to the semi finals. Whatever it is, we’ve got two full days which could be very crucial for the preparation, resting and training.

When I realised in the second half that we will cruise safely, I started switching between the channels to see the goners and scousers fighting it out. It was a very good match for neutrals and pool fans. For goners, it must have been heart-breaking. They don’t have anyone else to blame. They may say it was a dubious penalty but these things keep happening in football. They should not be hypocrites. All teams get good and bad decisions. We can only see what we could control and work on those things. Walcott made an amazing run for the equaliser but the whole Arsenal team at that moment thought that they have won the tie. They were not done celebrating when to their shock they saw Babel in the penalty box. He was allowed to run through, no tactical fouls. For the fourth goal again, Babel was one on one because Fibreglass did not commit a tactical foul which is would have given them a couple of minutes to find the third goal but it was clear that they had surrendered by that time. Over two legs, Pool are deserved winners.

Back to premier league. Arsenal should not go down without a fight. They should go to Old Trafford and beat Man Utd. Then our win over the Man Utd at Stamford Bridge will seal our title. That’s my script.

Congrats. Chelsea did dominate the 2nd half. But what did Drogba at the end was …….

You can complete it as you like, it’s obvious though…

lampard would not have forgiven drogba if he hadn’t scored. simple pass could have made it easier and this are chances manutd thrive on.

anyway, after a tense 90minute, good to be in the semi final against liverpool with Avram Grant as coach!

Another victim served up at fortress Stamford Bridge! I think finally Essien is adjusted to playing at right-back. BTW, does anybody agree with me that Hilario was simply sensational in this match?

Congratulations to everyone.

But we were lucky today.
I didn’t expect such a big mistake from Zico, he started without his left-winger Ugur Boral, what a fool. That costed him everything.

I’m not happy with our performance and I think we’ll be knocked out in the semis by Liverpool again.

oh well third time lucky perhaps! but the two performances tonight does not fill me with confidence.

also hilario saved well, but his kicks were awful, i could do better. I’m pretty sure that’s what it was like in his previous run though.

yay chelsea vs liverpool again.
That said if liverpool play the way they played in second half we are screwed.
Drogba was shit and probably should have been subbed. Essien added a little pace and attack down the sides but didnt link up with cole very well. kalou did ok for the first part of the game but got lost near the end of second half, good decision by grant to take him out. The sub for kalou was actaully quite intelligent. We swapped cole over to the other side, essien came up forward and belletti took up the RB position. This lead to the second goal basically since essien linked up better with belletti then he did with cole. I was expecting maybe essien goes midfield while lampard goes to the left to make it more defense based but it turned out quite well. I would have liked to see ballack come off though because except for the goal he wasnt that good, maybe sub in anelka and move essien to CM. Change it to a 442 diamond with maka as CDM, lampard and essien as CM’s and cole as an AM. Or even a 4-1-3-1-1 with anelka taken off for j.cole and placed behind drogba.

@48-
Um, it was Zico’s taking off of Boral and putting on Kazim-Richards that turned around the first leg. Perchance Zico remembered that, whereas you did not? Methinks he knows a bit more about his own side than you do.

@52 Bango

No, you’re wrong. Colin Kazim always used to be good as a late substitute not as a starter. Ugur Boral just had an off day in Istanbul. Normally, Ugur Boral is the one player in Fener who makes all the difference. Even today Fener’s most dangerous chances came after Ugur Boral came in. Before that Fener’s left wing were not working. Zico has just screwed it up tonight and I’m sure that he knows that now. Another big mistake of Zico was not resting his regular players at the weekend against Kayserispor. If he had rested I’m sure Fener would have progressed to the semis tonight. Alex was so tired that he couldn’t even use free-kicks properly, a man who is known as a free-kick specialist. Luckily for us, Zico made two big mistakes.

Besides, I’m not saying that starting with Kazim-Richards was a mistake. The mistake was starting without his regular left-winger Ugur Boral. If I was in Zico’s shoes I would start with both of them and would leave Maldonado on the bench, who by the way made no difference at all.

Overall, Chelsea played badly but Zico’s mistakes made the difference.

Looking forward to the Liverpool games.

Last week after first league match a lot of fernerbache fan where roaming in this blog(Fener, goglitze,Proud of FB,Sith,KOSOVAN)Where r u now, last week itself we chelsea fan told, In ur home u cannot beat Us…,not even score a goal,
ystrday fenerbache didn’t even have a good shoot on target(except hilario save), we were playing with our third choice goal keeper.Every thing was going same like first league till 75min, then zico pushed
fenerbache players to score goal, we took them on counter attack, Essien was our player who changed the game, he was very good in Right back position even better than Ashey cole in LB, also sub belletti,After substitution his attack in right wing was also great…

Last week one of our friend wrote this comment about Essien

@ bluesluv

i still think essien should go… ok so hes a versatile player…BUT what can he bring to chelsea that makalele didnt bring and mikel wont bring?

After this game i think @bluesluv got the importance of Essien in our chelsea team.

@58…’i still think essien should go… ok so hes a versatile player…BUT what can he bring to chelsea that makalele didnt bring and mikel wont bring?’…

first,Essien is just 24 while Maka is 35….
second, there is a big difference between their role….Maka is an out and out defensive player, sitting just outside our penalty box and destroying opponents’ attacks…he would never surge ahead….Essien may also play a defensive role but he is most lethal when he makes box-to-box runs…he does all that dirty work of tackling in midfield…have u ever seen any of our other midefield tackling…comparing Maka and Mikel is more logical…Essien is untouchale for Chelea….

But this Season our MANAGER is not good (he is improving) like jose or Rafa ,but he has LUCK , So we will beat Livelpool to meet BARCA in FINAL, Chelsea will beat BARCA ….Sure…..will be NEXT Champion’s

Missed the match. Happy that luck was on our side. I understand controversy went against the Gooners. Thus once again, Chelsea must try to overcome the Anfield Historical Society in order to go to the Final. Wouldn’t it be hell for Mourinho and Rafathead that this much (and often deseredly so) criticized upstart of a manager makes it to the finals? LET THE GAMES BEGIN! GO CHELSEA!!!!!!!

anyone who does not appreciate that essien is the best midfielder in our team is simply blind. anyone who says he must be transferred must essentially be an enemy of Chelsea. Essien is chelsea’s powerhouse. He together with terry epitomize the never say die winning spirit of chelsea. drogs used to belong to that category till he started dreaming of leaving.

essien on right flank and Joey/kalou on left flank will give our team more thrust and potency on a forward going basis. Right back keeps essien too much in the defensive mode. slotting in where Joey operates allows himself to help the midfield and also do his forward surges that the team needs.

Great win for us.We reach the semi final for the 4th time in 5 years in the ROMAN ERA.(1*Ranieri,2*Jose,1*AG)
Liverpool will be tough to beat. The key is getting an important away goal in the first leg.Why is AG persisting with essien at RB???It might work once or twice, not every game.
I hope Cudicini is back by the everton game.Hilario might be ok against wigan, but no further. The next few weeks will decide if we win anything this season and i want our 1st or 2nd choice GK to be available for that.
I hope Arsenal can pick themselves up n take points off united this week.If United beat arsenal, they are in the drivers seat for the EPL.If they lose or draw, we are in the drivers seat.
United is almost certainly in the semis of UCL now and they will have to travel to Barca for the semis. We wont have to leave England.A lot of things are in our favour.I hope our team can take advantage.

I think chelsea fc do not want money from selling good player’s,we made such a mistake by selling Arjen robben(Injury prone but good player) last season.
we r not championship club,to sell good player’s from academy for money, Chelsea play’s for wining trophies and we have billionaire owner who is ready to spend money for GOOD FOOTBALL,next season we will go to 4-4-2 for sexy football, then we need player’s like ESSIEN, how can play in all position’s .

i really really want revenge against liverpool!!!
drogba is still the most selfish player i have ever seen, he could of easily played lampard through sooooooo may times and still tries to score himself!!!!! it is soooooo frustrating!!!
if lampard didnt score he would have been so upset!

i have always thought anelka plays better as the lone striker because he is very good at assisting but needs to get better at scoring! he also links up very well with lampard!
i really wnt to see anelka playing because i would rather have an assister than a selfish person

anyway good luck to chelsea!!

Let’s accept that scousers were lucky[101%]………and le’arse went down in a more honourable manner than we have managed in 2 semi-finals vs liverpool.
first thing the tie would have been over at emigrants
1.had le’arse had got the penalty which was 100% deserving?
2.if bendtner hadnn’t provided the goal line clearance of probably a decade.

in second leg arse were much better team and 100% deserved to go through.

again scousers but i m pretty confident we will go through……
1.liverpool is crap…they won’t get lucky again
2.second leg is at SB

TBF I dont see any honour in the way arsenal went out at anfield. arsenal can lose their team morale so easily. they are awfully weak.

we went down in a honourable fashion - once to a nonexistent goal and second time in a penalty shootout after the extra time.

‘would have been over’ is a bad argument. then in that case see the first leg between chelsea and liverpool last season. we should have won the game by 3-0 or 4-0 but only finished 1-0. I’ll also say the game would have been over at SB then if . . . . in 04-05 and 06-07, we should have also got many penalties in crucial matches. but you don’t remember them, do you?

liverpool were not lucky, they were very strong. of liverpool and arsenal, only liverpool played like they wanted to be in the semi final.

BTW, great theme BC

let’s say for all the hype bout non-existent goal at anfield,it was penalty anyways[cech fouled baros if i m not wrong].
second,we did went down by penalties the other time around but if my memory serves me well we were outplayed from 1 min to 90 min with a weak off target drogba header we managed.

even stevie me accepted they were lucky like hell and add to that scousers in orkut openly admitting they were lucky with manure’s creating consolation thread for gunners.
and as for “it should have been over” discussion let’s say i was not bringing “misses” by arsene whinger’s side but penalty which should have been and a penalty which was never a penalty.
the way people defend mourinho is really outrageous……..

*liverpool were not lucky, they were very strong. of liverpool and arsenal, only liverpool played like they wanted to be in the semi final.

if liverpool were not lucky then none is ever lucky…….like f*ck were liverpool strong and wanted to win.
oh i forgot you support a manager who was a master at winning the games in which manner lucky scousers win.

Arsenal did not deserve to win. Period. tbf, there were unawarded penalties for chelsea too. what do you mean by outplayed? Chelsea dominated at stamford bridge and liverpool dominated at anfield. when arsenal reached the finals two years back, they were one of the most lucky and undeserving finalists. What about that?

TBF why is that every comment of you should end up in ridiculing jose and chelsea? no one’s talking about jose here anymore. i will defend and support jose only because of people like you. Talk about chelsea, our players, roman and our rivals. Leave jose alone because it’s very irritating. Just move forward.

@Smicer

Arsenal did not deserve to win that’s ur opinion and rather unique to be precise………I was taking the general and majority perception of the game.
What do i mean by outplayed?same as everyone…….unable to pass the ball….unable to push the ball forward…having no ideas as to what to do….hoofing the ball hoping drogba will do something.
why i brought up jose in topic?
i will tell you
1.you found the way we went down to pool honourable……which any neutral will find blindly supporting jose.
2.i am sick of people in here who constantly l*ck jose’s boot like anything

@Smicer

i was not referrin to you in particular when i mentioned point 2 as to why i brought up jose.

the fact is people are making too much of jose’s departure as if he is chelsea or if chelsea won’t exist without him and making him look like the little victim when the club has been all the time clear about why jose went

even on vitalfooty chelsea fans believe the same that pool were lucky

TBF,

If you are sick of folks here and at the Bridge loving Jose, too bad. Get the heck out. We love Jose cos he is a legend. we will continue to love him and any other coach after him that has pedigree and wins us things. Playing some fruitless sexy footie is not what majority of us want- we want a manager who will restore our awesome aura by winning things and scaring the life out of our opponents. if you cannot deal with that, tough!!!!

@49, with all their sexy footie, a psychologically defated team led by a clueless grant is on the brink of overtaking them. Some sexy footy indeed. By the way, when did that sexy footie last help them till our injury crisis last season handed them the premiership?
