Champions League: Semi Final First Leg Opinion Poll

It’s official now. It’s gonna be Liverpool vs Chelsea and Barcelona vs Man Utd. I know you simply can’t wait for these matches. But you gotta wait. While you’re waiting, take this opinion poll on the first leg matches.

Remember Chelsea and Man Utd have the advantage of playing the second leg at home. Chelsea have been beaten by Liverpool twice in semi finals in the last three seasons. On both occasions the second leg was at Anfield. I don’t think Man Utd played Barca in knockout rounds of the champions league in the last few seasons.

Chelsea would be missing the keepers and Essien for the first leg. Puyol won’t be eligible to play in the first leg against Man Utd. Gary Neville is back after being out for more than a tear. Rio Ferdinand is already back and Vidic could make a return for the first leg. Ronaldinho is out for the rest of the season and Messi is doubtful for the first leg.

All these four teams have strengthened their teams over the last few seasons. I have no doubt that these are the top 4 teams in Europe as of now, based on European form. While Liverpool vs Chelsea could be a tactical battle, Barca vs Man Utd could be incredibly explosive.

Now, let’s take an opinion poll. What do you think will happen in the first leg of the semi finals?

How did you find Franco di Santo?

this theme is definitely a keeper BC!

I might be getting tickets to see the chelsea leg of the semi final, a proper family affair split down the middle, two liverpool fans and two chelsea.

Dude… you change the theme more than… dammit, i’m out of witty remarks…. too busy laughing @ Arsenal for losing to Pool.

Nehow Chelsea will win but concede. Torres is too much right now, for any defense.

Call me a pessimist, but I think we might lose at Anfield, hopefully with an away goal.

Don’t want any penalty kick again! Can’t bear that twice in two consecutive years.

I think that our team has in fact weakened somewhat. Ballack is brilliant and his contribution can be seen but i think that without robben, our team is somewhat lacking. Joe cole may be brilliant but he is unatural on the left and malouda has yet to recreate his lyon form, however, we do have anelka, i think playing them both would give liverpool too many problems as carragher does make mistakes under intense pressure. Drogba would have a hard night as the Liverpool back four are quite strong but then again, do concede regularly on set pieces which drogba is winning alot of. i think we’ll scrape the win this time but we need to get the back 4 right because babel and torres are not going to be easy to keep at bay.

i honestly dont think chelsea has the ability to beat liverpool at home. I think benitez will play his boring ass counter attack style while grant will also play that way, so we will get alot of long balls and a packed midfield, yawn fest. without essien there i think mikel will get a run as a CM while ferriera/belletti will play RB. Based on perfomance i hink it will basically be the same as for the fenerbahce match, although maybe slot in anelka to kalou’s position or drogba early in second half to give some pace to the attack.
That said expect a bore draw or lucky/long goal.

Man U vs barce will be much more interesting with messi maybe being fit to play and bojan being on fire. Still expect man u to come away with at least a goal due to barce’s shaky defense and (cept for yaya) soft midfield. Look for ronaldo to score due to zambrotta going up too far.

Guys, I feel it strongly in my guts that we will bundle the scousers out this time. Their cup is full. i hardly go wrong when i feel such certainty within my guts. Liverpool is falling home and away. i cannot tell the score but i know they are losing both legs. nuff said.

I could care less how it is done. A draw or victory at Anfield and a win at the Bridge is what I pray for! If we must have Hilario at goal, heck, he can be good for one or two matches. No Essien in the first leg means he will not play out of position. For some reason or another, Rafathead (and the officials)managed to outwit Mourinho in the CL. Maybe Grant has a trick up his sleeve. Perhaps the players are so ticked off at loosing to these bums for so long that they will be more inspired to win. Playing on the road first may be the advantage we need. GO CHELSEA!

This time with the second leg at home, i think Chelsea will definitely be in final. My guess on Manu vs Chelsea final, but CFC has to be at their best to have any chance of winning the final.

Yes I may agree that Chelsea may win over Liverpool, with the second leg in SB.
But really chelsea have had incredible luck this year in the CL, even now in Liverpool they are having huge arguments amongst the directors.
If Liver players do not get involved than I see liver again kicking chelsea out.
Just unthinkable that clueless AG may reach the final, this just confirms that the players and SC have done a very good job, whatever happens I do not believe there is any credit to AG, even Peter Kenyon and A Buck know that the job is too big for AG, in their comments they do not assure that AG will be the next season manager.
I sincerely hope that chelsea gets a decent good tactician manager.

Did any one watch the Getafe - Bayern Game .. Getafe were down to 10 men in under 10 mins and dominated Bayern for 120 mins.

Just a mistake from Goalie Pato allowed Bayern to win ..

I wish Laurdup is the next Manager at Chelsea . Saying that not sure how Hen Ten Cate would react . Frankie is great , but he can’t seem to manage ego’s at Barca ( Ronnie, Deco etc).. Not sure about Laurdup also.

ho ho let’s not get carried away by one match. continue to watch laudrup’s matches week in and week out before coming to a conclusion.

lot of people here do the same mistake for players too. asking for some youngsters to be bought by chelsea because they saw their goals on MOTD or they saw it on youtube or in some highlights. i’d say you may not have seen them enough to see their negatives.

with epl out of equation concentrate on cl at anfield take game. defend very well and counterattack look for away goal atleast 1 or 2 get draw at anfield and play4-4-2 wit anelka and didi for second leg score 2 goals and get a 2 goal lead excluding the advantage of away goals and protect
the lead after 70 min.

i know chelsea is capable of beating liverpool in stamford bridge. but the coach must be willing to make substitution on any misbehaviour, Drogba & Lampard were unimpressive at the last match. i hope the’ll play better at the next leg & i think anelka will be better to start early in the second half.
