Chelsea held on to a nervy 1-0 lead to keep the gap at 5 points. Middlesbrough can certainly count themselves unlucky after they hit the bar about 4 times in the second half. We struggled in a home match, which should have been regulation win. Not really champions stuff, if you ask me!
Today’s match happened to be another ‘heart-in-the-mouth’ affair which was alive until the final whistle. Grant chose to play a very strong team, not wanting to rest key players for the Fenerbahce match. We were missing only Lampard and Cech today. Playing at home with a very good team, we again failed to pack the punch. In the last few seasons, Chelsea’s hallmark was their consistency. I don’t know where and how it vanished. We are now painfully inconsistent. Scoring loads one day and playing like mid-tablers the other day.
What was more saddening than our appalling display was the manner in which Boro were denied a draw or even a win. Southgate can certainly count himself unlucky. To hit the bar four times in one half must be really frustrating. Had they scored a goal, the game would have gone any way. The shot by Afonso Alves must have been the most frustrating for the Boro fans. How mayny times does the ball hit the inside of the bar and still does not go in?
I don’t know why we can’t play 4-4-2 with the resources available? We still play 4-3-3 which has proved to be less successful of late, than 4-4-2. We remember how Drogba excelled in 4-4-2 last season with Shevchenko as his partner. If Anelka or Kalou were to be his partner in attack, it would be lethal. For all the top class talents, we created very few genuine chances. We did attack but only a few times, we made some decisive moves.
At 1-0 up at 65 minutes, the last player I wanted to see on the pitch was SWP. The guy keeps trying all the time and more often than not he fails in his execution and loses the possession. While we are trying to protect the lead, SWP would be the exact player I would avoid at any cost. It so happened that he had to be given a couple of chances on a golden plate and not surprisingly, he blew them off.
Our set pieces defending is a major source of worry now. If Fener’s coaching staff have been observing Chelsea in the last few matches, they’d surely fancy their chances in set pieces on Wednesday night. Why is that our defenders do not outjump the attackers anymore? We seem to be caught in two minds about whether to clear the ball or to feed it for the counterattack.
The only good thing is we’ve got the three points when Man Utd also won. I watched Man Utd vs Aston Villa yesterday and the Chelsea match today. If I’ve to be really honest, Man Utd thoroughly deserve to be champions this season. You have to give it to them. It is really an injustice if Chelsea or Arsenal are going to steal the title in this final lap. Man Utd are playing like true champions and we are not. While the Reds are despatching teams with ease and arrogance, we are still struggling with teams of any quality. Man Utd would be more deserved for the title ‘champions’ this season.
Let’s now concentrate on champions league now. I hope we make the best out of the generous draw that was handed out to us!

yup, agreed BC. .. this’s one of the worst chelsea’s performances
I almost thought we’re screwed when Cudicini raced out of the box to get the ball but missed….but Alves hit the post…it’s as if God was on our side for this match.
Mourinho’s players can’t even make straight simple passes…our midfield is worst among all title contenders ….Abromovich, please get rid of players like Ballack,SWP,Lampard,Drogba…all these are average players being paid in milions…please bring in players who know to play on ground, who can pass the ball, who can create chances or you will keep suffering at hands of these stupid overrated players…did anyone take note of mis-passes in our MF…even Carvalho was mis-passing like anything..it was really dreadful…what a team that overrated buffoon Mourinho has left…I hope he takes away craps like Drogba,Lampard,Ferriera and SWP whenever he joins his next club…
BC.. please do a favor.. dont write the post match article. havnt been so pissed off even in defeats
Spot on BC. We were piss poor. And @ 4, yeah, don’t write any post match article. I am seriously so pissed off right now!!!!!!
SWP should go!
I didn’t watch the match from the start but what i saw in the second half from chelsea was appalling. Drogba should have been removed and joe cole also wasn’t at his best. Swp could have scored a hattrick in 5 minutes as he had our best chances but he wasted all chances especially the easiest one which he seemed to play out of the stadium.
Grant was quoted on setanta sports as saying “we still play wonderful football” If what we played aainst arsenal was borin footbal, then i think more boring football could win the title.
Southgate was quoted as saying,”we really rattled them in the last 25 minutes and hit the bar on almost every attack.” THat’s how a confident coach should talk after every match.
We will surely lose to man utd at the bridge and this great record will cum to an end….lowsy players cant pass the ball cant keep the ball ….losers…i sincerely hope these guys dunt win the title cuz they dunt deserve nething…….assholes….
The only more lethargic and more insipid thing that surpasses our game today is Grant. the more this loser is in charge of our team, the worse the team will become. And the incredulous thing is that he honestly believes he is motivating the boys to play some super game.
anytime, we meet a team that ups the tempo and closes space and gives us no time on the ball, we struggle. You see the difference between grant’s chelsea and jose’s blues is this- even if Jose’s Chelsea is not playing well, there is some self belief bordering on a sense of inevitability that we will just grind out the needed result. with grant, unless the team has a three goal cushion, one is always sitting on tenterhooks.
As things stand, an early goal is rather detrimental to us now, because we do not even know how to stifle opponents anymore-
i cannot wait for the virus that has affected Roman to wear off so we get rid of this super boring and fake manager.
We are not going to be champions, and it would be an injustice to Manchester United if we were. Second this season could be just about justified, but first? No chance.
No games are regulation wins, and Middlesbrough are well known for their fight against the upper echelons of the league in the past few seasons. This three points is worth as much as any other. On to Fenerbahce.
hey all Mourinho stooges, we really played like crap…but please show consistency in ur comments…when team wins its Grant’s mistake and when team wins its Mourinho’s legacy team…be honest and consistent in ur comments u Mourinho stooges….
@9….please read ‘when team wins its Grant’s mistake’ as ‘when team looses its Grant’s mistake’..
The season is almost over we should all cross our hands and be waiting for the outcome at long run, and we should stop expecting anything from this present team with this so called groundball coach. I am not going to comment on any poor/good performance of this team from now till the end of the season only if the unthinkable happen miraculously (winning the league and champions league ). We are just riding on a spree luck
@9, The team is hanging in there in spite of Grant. Sporadically, they reach heights because of need to salvage honour for themselves. however, the fact that they have an insipid, no nothing manager does get to them sometimes, hence lethargic performances like the one seen today.
But credit to them that they are still hanging in there in spite of the deleterious influence of grant on their very psyche.
@its foot+ball, not air+ball,
mate chill a bit. Drogba ‘n’ Ballack are crap? OMFG did yu ever saw a single German Match in yur lifetime or atleast d got a chance to witness 2002 or atleast da last world cup. Drogba da one of da top 3 strikers at da moment, how soon yu forgot even last match against Arsenal. Though yu r refusing to accept dat, but da truth is its yur clueless manager named Grant dunno how to deploy da players (or) get da max our of them.
Come on, dun compare Jose-The Legend vs Grant-The Trash(in juss footballing terms though Grant may be a nice person). Clubs like Madrid, Barca, Milans would beg for getting Jose’s services, comin to Grant god I cant imagine even a single lower division footballing club @ Europe!
hey if yu dun mind wats dat “its foot+ball, not air+ball”, nothing am juss curious to ask yu. I thot in the Earth people use thigh, kness, chest, head, blah blah to play football, may be yu are from heaven where its juss foot+ball. yu know da fact widout “air” da ball won’t even move at all coz of gravity, lolz :P. also if yu remove “air” from football then its called dead-ball, come on why dun yu puncture any sample ball and see it yurself, lolz ;)
I didn’t see the match and can’t say too much. But, why in the world didn’t Grant start Drogs and Anelka up front? They were a fine combination in the Gooner game. It was the one decision Grant got right in that match.
Hey #3, I’m no big SWP man myself. However, “Mourinho’s stupid overrated players” put trophies in the case for the past 3 years under the right manager. Indeed, you were probably singing their praises last week against the Gooners. I know JM ain’t comming back. But, I hold Grant responsible for not maintaining team focus and discipline to perform at the same level that they played last week and we need a man who can restore the consistency of play that Chelsea once had. If Chelsea wins against City and Fener, Grant should stay till season’s end. If not, Clarke should be elevated to caretaker manager and Roman must promise to hire the best availiable manager and let him do his job.
@3 – this is one of the worst comments about football i’ve ever read. we have one of the best squads in europe. we are indebted to the special one for that. we have players of all kind who can play in various ways. it all depends on the manager to make them play well.
under JM, we use to command the game in such a way that the opponents will have no chance at all of any result. nowadays it’s all upto LUCK and nothing else. the fear we created for others is gone, our consistency is gone, our respect is also gone. the only thing that’s left with us is the brilliant squad of talented players assembled by the genius that is jose mourinho, the special one, a chelsea legend!
@ its foot+ball, not air+ball
Dude chill……..
Where do u get ur comments from……….???
Like an annoying dog who jus cant seem to stop barking…….
What does Mourinho have to do with this…….
I think your the real stoooge here!!!
@Roman Empire 13
Beware dude…..U cant use sane arguments to counteract a stoooge like (foot+ball, not air+ball) LOL!!
@ RomanEmpire 13 – superb comment. completely agree.
ok we didn’t play good but i’m happy with a win and remember it’s always a difficult to play after international friendly matches cos we had almost entire team played in midweek so it’s normal in my opinion(even with JM we had always problem after these games if u remember) then we have a difficult trip in Turkey .. i agree that it wasn’t a great perfomance and in 2nd half AG had to bring Anelka or Sheva instead of Drogba cos he played very poor today .. so lookin for Fenerbahce game now ..
@its foot+ball,
Which foot+ ball are you talking about? wenger’s own that has not delivered any trophy for so many season’s or rijkaard’s own that has seen his team virtually kick the la liga good bye with so many matches to go?
keep on dreaming mate.
Everyone knows it except blind folks like its foot+ball. Matt Lawton told The Supplement Chelsea’s revival is more down to the strength of the players than Avram Grant.
Enjoy the read on-

hey did yu guys get a chance to luk at some funny fots posted at Guardian, i really feel for Sheva… [:(]!

forgot to add, juss click on picture to navigate to the next picture. dun miss it, lmao!
Terrible game! Flat, dull, lifeless, insipid, too casual – and that’s just Avram (just kidding Avram fans).
We won though but I really have no idea how – my heart was in my mouth the last 20 minutes or so when Alves came on and Boro perked up no end.
Grant really is damn lucky because it was sheer luck that got us the win plus our ability to grind out results when playing poorly – or well for that matter.
On the evidence of this weekend, Man Utd are deserve the title as their football is far better than ours.
Of course I would love us to beat them but I just want to be honest about our performances – Grant may want to pretend we have been generally wonderful under him in terms of sheer entertainment and quality football but I think he is living in cloud cookoo land.
My comments posted on another blog earlier….but they pretty much sum up how I, and many others in the MHL felt today
That was utter bollocks of the highest order. Yes, we won and got 3 points, but that IS THE ONLY THING we can take as a positve. If I was doing the ratings then Joe Cole would just get MoTM with the lowrest ever MoTM score 7/10 – his first corner was as bad as anything I’ve seen at any level. Drogba was at the other end of the meter from last weeks display, club-footed, moaning and error strewn. Kalou-less over complicated everything and gave the ball away just about every time bar once when he got it to SWP, who with all the time in the world launched the ball to row Z. Ballack, despite not having his best game went off and from that point our midfield collapsed to the point where Boro could have planted a flag in the centre circle, laid out a picnic table and put some tents up.
We backed off and let them come at us and we’re damn lucky we didn’t lose. Bridge went missing at left back, Belletti forgot how to run, though his corners are better than anyone elses, Mikel remained calm but couldn’t impose himself and is now apparently NOT allowed to tackle according to the refs who penalised every tackle he made, Carlo reverted to Cech like route one hoofs up the park for Wheater et al to win every time and then left the goal utterly exposed for Alves to hit the post…although to be fair he had been badly exposed to the move by Drogba’s unforced ball give-away, a missing midfield and a right back who’d presumably slipped out for a quick fag and cuppa. Anelka came on and played at right wing and Drogba sat behind him! Where the fuck does that come from if not the bench?
That was as bad as Fulham or any of the other rubbish games at SB this season…and this is better is it? If you’d taken someone there today for their first ever game……would you ever persuade them back? After last weeks massive display it’s a bloody mystery to me how we can then go and dish up something as mouldy as this……it’s just like the old Ranieri days.
Stamford Bridge stunk today, stunk because of the mouldy old rotten corpse of football served up to us by a team that was uninspired, insipid, toothless, wasteful and pathetic. I’m glad I’m not doing the review.
Poor Chelsea, very f***ing poor.
@BC
PISS-POOR,HORRIBLE,PATHETIC………..we were lucky not to lose………………….ballack was crap,so was mikel……….only essien looked something near decent.
ballack subbin was right…………frank was not on bench so SWP was the only option.
joe was average and kalou was as frustating as ever[note he still managed to set up SWP which frank or ballack would have managed to score].
people will kill me for this but there are two points
1.very similar matches have been played last season but peoples will not accept……vs spurs[fa 3-3],vs newcastle,vs bolton,vs rovers[fa semifinal].
2.our midfiel needs changes.
and did anyone notice that old lady sleepin………i don’t blame her…..if i hadn’t pushed myself to watch it beyond 10 min,i would have been doin the same.i don’t want arsenal style but man utd style will definitely do.
I sincerely believe I could do better as the manager of Chelsea than AG ! LOL LOL LOL
Just kidding folks !
@BC
i actually just read thE Israeli’s post match reaction.
one thing impressed me HE WAS HONEST ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE.
it is something which actually hasn’t occured since last three seasons……it had to be some incompetent player always
@Joseholiday
you can be honestly but jose’s fan boys won’t let you have a night sleep and will be hell-bent on provin that you are incompetent and tactically naive.
@Mourinho fans….get over ‘Jose’s great squad’ rant…these are players who can’t even pass ball, let alone to speak of creativity and flair…how many of you feel Mourinho would had won titles had Manure been in same strength as today…as soon as he got competition, he left because he knew he can’t win against this Manure side…period…
this squad can’t win, particulatly when you have to compete against likes of current Manu side…we have to accept it that we are nowhere Manure,Mourinho or not…Ballack is our supposedly midfield pillar and he can’t make simple passes…SWP has hardly improved as a payers, be it under Murinho or Grant,may be there is no scope further for his improvement…Kalou is a midtable team stuff…Mikel has become a poor version of Lampard…
please stop this ‘great squad’ chants…
Aren’t we all a sorry lot this year.
We can’t really revel in wins : good or crappy
We got a team performing, on and off with a sighing,air gulping ” first team coach ”
Two pieces of silverware gone , sigh…..
We ain’t really charging for trophies or titles but trying to sneak off with them if someone else falters..
Only good side I can think of is lotsa luck in getting the weaker draws in competitions.
Oh, how I remember the good ol’ days of yesteryear !
and AG’s friend’s foe or whatever you call yourself@29
You say that JM sneaked off cos Manure was better and stronger this year ? cos he couldn’t handle the challenge ?
Go to a brain doctor and have your head checked !
And also, ask your mammy what she fed u when u were young !
@31…is this all u can say as counterargument…then its better if u ask ur mom what she fed u with…too much beer n mosquitoes in Burma has damaged ur brain I guess….
TBF @ 29
I think I will be accepted instantly , u see I am much more physically attractive than Mr Toady .
Also I think I can give JM a run for his money in the good-looks department.
All I have to tell JM lovers is that I’m warming the bench till someone else comes along.
And I’ll also tell ‘em if Chelsea loses it’s cos of my stupidity ,and RA
but if Chelsea wins it’s cos of the players and the fans and all my superior assistants and the mascot.
But if we draw, it’s cos of the weather , bird flu and player indigestion.
And I shall sleep soundly at night unlike panda-eyed AG !
As things look even if we finish trophyless we have to see the moron next season too [:(]
AG’s F’s F :
I wasn’t arguing with u at all , mon ami , just telling u to check whatcha wrote ! What have u written means : we should tie the whole bunch of CFC players to a pole , douse them with gasoline and burn them to cinders ,.
That’s why I asked u to see the head doc !
and AG’s F’s F
u also meant @ 29 that JM chickened out , wasn’t sacked , and that RA begged on his knees to JM not to leave , and also that JM left cos Manure was got Tevez and Nanny and Anderson ( the world’s 3 best players probably in ur estimation )during the off season.
My what rot !
add to it that when jose parted man utd had 2 draws and a defeat and was equal in point with us.
Yes another very good point Nihongo Blue ! Arigato, Sir !
@35…yup I really want to do that but with one more addition to them..Mourinho…
Hey everyone !
What’s up with JT ? The bugger don’t look too happy or leader-like lately.
To tell you the truth, the whole team looks a bit on the dour side !
Anyone who’s been to SB recently and had a close up look at them : your opinions on this please !
the players we have are just not class players……now before people jump on and accuse me of racism or some such thing i will clarify what a class player is, somebody who can pass, create, who is intelligent and can read the game, rather somebody who can run with the ball and move it around!!
Whenever i watch us play its the old hoof-the-ball-up game, attacks…hoof it to Drogs, counterattacks….hoof it up, nobody wants to take the ball and charge down the field,(except for dear Joey Cole that is), we keep losing posession but still the tactics remain the same, this so called direct football of Jose is the reason i hated his football philosophy, yesterday i was watching Real play Sevilla, and Sneijder impressed me no end, whatever chances were produced he was at the heart of it, thru balls, lobs, neat passes, Robben and co are having a hell of a time when they have such a player feeding them, Jose’s automatons, Lamps can only shot, Ballack…charging??..lol, that wld be the day, Essien can run around but his passing ability is very poor, Mikel, i hardly rate him good enuh for our reserves, Malouda……hes just a joke, SWP…need i say anything??
When Manu atack , its pace and pass, pace and pass, Rooney, Ronaldo, Nani, Tevez, so deadly, that is why they are so effective they just blow away the other team, its nigh impossible to stop three, four lightening quick and amazingly talented footballers when they charge down at u like that, we need that in our midfield Jose only wanted the gritty and strong players who are really important in a team but not as many as he filled ours with, for heavens sake sign somebody who can dribble the ball around, Vaart, Ribas, Modric, Nasri, Iniesta…somebody…….
buy Ronaldinho, get rid of…..
We will kill ManU for sure!
Some of you are talking about our squad. Our players can’t pass, but they are no.2 in the league, how’s that?
The only positive thing about chelsea now is our squad. Ask Sir Alex.
@FR6
OUR PLAYERS CAN’T PASS………..that’s holy truth but they are ridiculuosly lucky/efficient call it whatever you want to.
What a Boring Performance by chelsea,Even chelsea fans in stadium were sleeping,attendance for this match was very poor. I think this was ROMAN’S Dream team to Conquer World with stupid manager LOL LOL. What a stupid Substitution to bring SWP for Ballack, Ballack was very bad in this game i agree, but if got the SWP chances ,he should have converted at least One goal. We had Sheva in bench Still Avram didnot used him,Sheva is world class striker better than SWP, Drogba in second half was also Waste.
hi Friend this Year we don’t deserve any trophy , we have to think about next season, first change dummy manager.Frank Rickard is not a good replacement,last week Real beats defeated BRACA 3-2.. Barca was leading 2-0. LOL…
Go For ZOla, he was a lengend at Bridge or Zizu (Zidane… he will not come i know that)…
@Arun
wat makes you think zola will be a good manager?he is a legend and fans adore him but he is coachin italy u-21
@Joseholiday
if you ask me last season essien was better at cb than terry……terry has risen his game to some extent this season.
@joeblue
brilliant post
MOE,
let me have your contacts or call me up on +233242786950. Holla.
@41,Joeblue…mate, stop preaching to these Mourinho stooges…they are dumbfounded by Mourinho’s ‘efficient’ football…
btw, your words ‘its the old hoof-the-ball-up game, attacks…hoof it to Drogs, counterattacks….hoof it up, nobody wants to take the ball and charge down the field’…really sums up our game…do u remember last 15 mins of our game at Anfield this season(of course under Mourinho)….it was as:’Cech hoofs to Liverpool goal-Liverpool collects the ball and attacks-Cech repeats the cycle’…that was the worst football I have ever seen…and Mourinho stooges were balbbering that it is ‘effective’ football…LOL….
@2. Nick
Nick God has been on our side since Avram Grant has been appointed, cant believe the amount of LUCK that Chelseas has since his appointment, matches, draws etc etc.
Just a feeling that the match against Arsenal was one in a million, a fluke,
now back to the same old shit and lots and lots of LUCK.
@10. its foot+ball, not air+ball
when cfc wins and wins well like against arsenal, yes it is the players pride, and professionalism, I am a player and there are certain clubs were i play better than others, particularly derbies, and clubs I dont like, so the same with top players like DD, essien, ballack etc.
Therea are other games/matches that players need to be motrivated thats when the manager comes in, and chelsea only has shown so far that the only element that the manager brings is LUCK, thats all, the substitutions against arsenal were a fluke, but they worked there is no genius in AG, the man doesnt even know the meaning of the word.
Regarding that fool above that wishes to bring down the professionalism, and the genius of Jose Mourinho or for that matter compare Avram with JM,makes me laugh. With the luck that Chelsea has had this season JM would have run away with the EPL by now.
AG is so lucky that the remaining fixtures are the easiest one comparing with the other 2 title contenders, but i have a feeling that cfc will finish in 3rd.
@BC comments:
“While the Reds are despatching teams with ease and arrogance, we are still struggling with teams of any quality. Man Utd would be more deserved for the title ‘champions’ this season”
Chelsea used to do it in the previous 2 seasons, dispatch teams with ease and arrogance, look at them now, what has changed? any answers? it is a no brainer.
yes i agree ManU is playing like true champions reminds me of cfc 2 seasons ago.
@51…..’With the luck that Chelsea has had this season JM would have run away with the EPL by now.’…yeah like he did last season…LOLOL….
@52….’Chelsea used to do it in the previous 2 seasons, dispatch teams with ease and arrogance’…which matches are you talking of…mention any match in which Cheslea thrashed team which had drawn with other two title contenders…get rid of ur Mourinho cobwebs…
fact is Mourinho ran away from this fantastic Manure team..period…he knew he can’t do anything this bunch of fantastic players who know how to pass ball, how to play ball on ground,how to create chances….you tell me one another team which can afford their main striker wasting so many of scoring chances…but this Manure team can afford to do so because they create so many chances that anyways they are going to score 3-4 goals every match…come out of ur world consisting of Mourinho….he is anti-thesis of an art called FOOTBALL….Ferguson stood up to this shit and developed a team who knows to win by playing proper football….remember that comment..Chelsea-Liverpool matches are like shit hanging from a stick’s end…it was from a neutral…no vested interests…..so start looking things in right perspective…I know Grant is not the stuff we need but Mourinho is equally responsible for the quagmire we r in….I will salute him if he can get rid of his footballing philosophy….
if a team plays football the way it should be,no one can stop u from winning trophies…salute to Ferguson for proving this…
@54, you are the most stupid person ever to come up here and post a comment. All the comments you’ve ever posted in this blog have been irrational and uncalled for. All you do is abuse mourinho; the greatest manager in our history.
Get your facts right, mourinho was told to leave, he didn’t run away coz man utd had a strong squad. We didn’t have half the luck we’ve had this season, last season. Mourinho would have one trophy by now (carlin cup against spurs) he won it against liverpool and arsenal. He would never have lost to Barnsley in an FA cup match. We used sinclair, sahar, mikel and diarra aainst macclesfield and nottinham forest last season and the aggregate of both matches was 10-2. (6-1 and 4-1) This old toad used ballack, essien, lamps, anelka, jcole, kalou, drogba, etc and he lost everything.
@54, i’ll advise you to think when you criticize someone. Use your thick skull and think.
moyo
lol i think your wrong about @54that you call him “the most stupid person ever to come up here and post a comment”
you are wining the stupidity title by far
ya, it’s the both of you. Israeli and air+ball. Israeli or whatever you call yourself, i know you are probably another stupid israelite coming here because someone from your country is our manager.
Pls we don’t need any more israelite at our club, you (israeli) and the foolish toad we have as a manager have brought enough misfortune to us this season. Why don’t you support arsenal so they will lose.
@55…’We used sinclair, sahar, mikel and diarra aainst macclesfield and nottinham forest last season and the aggregate of both matches was 10-2. (6-1 and 4-1)’….and ‘toad’ scored 6-0 against ManCity(who have done double against Manure this season)and 6-1 against Derby,both premiership teams…..so does it prove Grant to be a world class manager?
@58 AFF
You have answered your own question lol.
Get an original name first.
@61…FR6….this is all u can offer in a debate…produce arguments, not these meaningless blabber….
