Chelsea held on to a nervy 1-0 lead to keep the gap at 5 points. Middlesbrough can certainly count themselves unlucky after they hit the bar about 4 times in the second half. We struggled in a home match, which should have been regulation win. Not really champions stuff, if you ask me!
Chelsea host Boro on a Sunday afternoon while Man Utd and Arsenal would have finished their matches on Saturday. We should win without much fuss, ahead of our mid-week trip to Turkey. How sweet would it be to see Villa win by a stoppage time penalty against Man Utd?
Such a bad question especially after Drogba dismissed Arsenal single handedly last weekend. But take a long hard look at the question. Different players making important contributions in different matches is fine. Do we now have those talismanic two or three players who will always bail us out and get us the win?
Yippeeee! What a result! What a revenge! We just returned the last season’s favour to the goners. So it’s Chelsea vs Man Utd for the title. Despite his shortcomings and eccentricities, Avram Grant notches his first serious big game win. Chelsea’s best performance in many weeks and months. And you know what, until first half I was cursing Drogba!
A ‘big match’ this one and I hope AG will agree. Reason one is the impact the result might have on Chelsea’s title race. Reason two is the impact of the result on the team morale and confidence. Reason three is the home league record at stake. If you remember, the last home league loss in Feb 2004 was against this very opposition but I would go for a 1-0 home win this time.
