News Roundup | 18-Jan-2008
Some quick round up. The big rumour involves Drogba, Messi and Kaka. It is said that Chelsea would be ready to give Drogba to Barca or Milan provided Messi or Kaka is part of the deal. Also Chelsea are reported to have valued Drogba at 40 million. That’s way too much for Drogba!
As part of their monthly routine, Chelsea pick up another hefty fine for not controlling their players. Everytime I see such news I get badly annoyed at the double standards. I’m not trying to justify what the Chelsea players did when Essien was sent off. I strongly believe that only the captain should be allowed to talk to the referee and any other interference should be punished. But as long as this is not the case, all clubs should be treated alike. What Chelsea players did the other day is what players of most premier clubs including the top four would do every week.
QPR’s owners have vowed that their club will challenge in champions league in four years. Standing at No.20 in the championship, their target is to play in the premier league in 3 years. This is their ‘programme’ as they put it. Such things cannot be brushed aside anymore. I won’t be surprised if QPR makes it big in the European scene. I’m almost very sure that there are more billionaires in the world than quality managers who can help them achieve such stiff targets.
Franco di Santo hopes to be a Chelsea player this weekend and even hopes to take up the challenge if he is called to play. I doubt his participation anytime soon. Lassana Diarra has moved to Portsmouth after just 6 months with Arsenal. Looks like what was promised and what was being offered at Arsenal were different. In a way what he did was just right. Instead of crying and moaning at lack of first team chances, he discussed it openly with Wenger and got himself transferred to club where he would naturally be a first choice player.
London clubs are now interested in Kostas Katsouranis of Benfica. This guy is a defensive midfielder who can perform few other roles. I don’t see any logic in going in for a defensive midfielder now. He’s clarifted that he would stay where he is, but we should now look at which other defensive midfielder Chelsea would be looking to sign.
There is no G14 anymore. If you don’t know anything about G14, leave it, it’s gone now anyways. The dissolving of G14 could have an impact in the transfer market which leads us to the opening story of this article which happens to be closing one too.
And finally, looks like Chelsea is intent on a Drogba - Messi swap with Barcelona! Drogba has already opened his mouth about how much he will relish playing with Eto’o but Messi has not shown any explicit interest so far. Why Barca will not leave Messi? Young and incredibly talented, would being them loads of trophies in the next decade for them. Why Barca might leave Chelsea? They seem to unearth more Messis. My feeling is that this is all nonsense, Barca will not leave Messi in the near future. Same holds good for Kaka too. In this aging Milan team, to leave away a player like Kaka for whatever money would be crazy but hey wait, that’s what I said about Shevchenko 18 months back!

That’s one of the stupidest things I’ve read all month, the Drogba-Kaka’-Messi thing…
Why would Barca give away one of the top three players in the world, a 20 year-old for a 30 yearl-old?! Drogba isn’t a better goal-getter.
And Kaka’? Are you kidding? He’s the best player in the world… forget a swap, a swap of Drogba and 30 million pounds (Sheva?!) isn’t enough to put Kaka’ in a Chelsea Jersey!!
It’s utter rubbish.
At 1.94 m already, and only 18 years old, Di Santo certainly whetts the appetite. I can’t wait to see him play!!

guys be realistic, do you think either Barca or Milan would
exchange Messi or Kaka for DD , even if RA gives them another
£20Mil??? in both countries press one of the reason for JM to join
either of them is that no players leave before he talks to them.
Correrier delo sport even goes further to say DD to join Milan
as part of JM becoming their manager and no players to leave.

whyy buy buy buy, let grant prove himself this season, to win the champion league it takes aworld class player and tactical manager on and off the pitch. The day dreamers always talk of nowadays at chelsea just one more multi million pound player, silly talk chelsea have one of the best squads in the world now its time to deliver and earn the wages,if not ship the lot out and start again.

absolutely agree. we have a great squad and who should be delivering titles instead of dismantling and re-assembling.
10. used2gonwatchcfc
I agree with you 2 above.
But AG wants to do it with “HIS” players
It is the great squad that Chelsea has, that has
kept the blues within touch of the other 2.
CL you need a bit of luck, and apparently AG
has by the bucket load, lol
look who they drew next ?
Olympiakos!!!!!!!!! LOL

welll thats why they are called rumours in the first place….so dont believe everything you read….Drogba worth 40million…hahaha..please,if we get 20million for the dude,we should be happy..but thinking that messi of kaka would come to chelsea,is like me becoming the president of the USA…
i dont know why we cant have a good academy to raise young talents too and i envy wenger when he brings those young players out from nowhere…lets focus inside and stop buying..we have enough for now…lets groom….
12. JoseHoliday
Looks like RA and AG are gonna buy up every big name player they can or it may be an elablorate scheme to unsettle everyone else ……
By the past actions of the two , could be the latter strategy….

Drpgba , massi or Drogba, KAKA :)) , Drogba is not that big :)).sell him off to QPR. :)).
Drogba,Ronaldinho is possible.
14. Maysam
I think chelsea offered this offer in order to prevent Drogba from leaing which is not a good idea , if he does not really want to stay, let him go.

Hi, Tony from Chelseablog here…….re: Drogba. He patentl;y doesn’t want to be with us anymore so let him go in the summer…but…..if we were buying him from Madrid, Barca or Milan they’d want £30 million. As he recently signed a 4 year contract it’s simple, we do a swap deal for aforementioned Kaka/Messi or we hold out for £30m - jeez if Sheva was worth that then Didier is worth £40m! Personally I’d get the £30 million and then go to Valencia and get a hungry David Villa who will still only be 26…so good for 5-6 years!

Sergio Kun Aguero in CHELSEA
We will not see the likes of Messi or Kaka grace our presence at Stamford Bridge. To suggest otherwise would be utter ignorance. Who in their right mind would swap a 20 year old (Messi) or a 24 year old (Kaka) for a 30 year old striker? It is ludicrous. What is so wrong with Chelsea’s youth academy that we cannot produce our own Messi or Kaka? I think some serious question’s need to be asked regarding what exactly is going on down there, because I am not seeing any progress.
I’m sure you will all agree that nothing is more exciting then watching a ‘home-grown’ talent rise through the academy at rapid pace and then have a blistering debut. It must be incredibly exciting down at Aston Villa at the moment for this exact reason.
Chelsea till I die….
