Chelsea Transfer News & Rumours | 28-Dec-07

roman-abramovich-avram-grant.jpg

Avram must have started the countdown for the winter transfers a few months back. I don’t think Chelsea needs all four weeks of the winter transfer window. Given our preparedness and ACN absences, Grant might want to get the signings done pretty soon. He should have all the support from Roman because that’s what I’d understand from the £50 million plus transfer funds made available for Grant for the January transfer window.

Chelsea are still chasing Luka Modric, the No.10 of Dinamo Zagreb, a classic playmaker as they call him. We have competition from Spurs and Man City but we are the front runners as Dinamo seems to expect £20 million. This is not an expensive transfer by the 2004 Chelsea prices but things have changed now. I have not see Luka Modric in action much. He has attracted a lot of attention so he must be quite decent. Just check this youtube video. Don’t undermine the youtube assessments. Remember, Man City is flying high!

Nicholas Anelka is still being discussed amidst reported feelings from Anelka that he wants to play an important role in Chelsea and not just as a stop gap for Drogba. Fair enough but that should be determined by various factors. The best striker in Europe as of 2005, did not get to play an important role in Chelsea for reasons obvious. For £10 million, he would be a fantastic buy. He would be different kind of striker than Drogba, Shevchenko, Pizarro and Kalou. Anelka is very strong physically, can be very quick and has a lethal finish. Whatever happened to Berbatov!

After that failed move for Daniel Alves in August this year, he must now be available for a much lesser price. Sevilla’s poor run in the league, Alves’ very public proclamation that he wants to leave for Chelsea and the fact he is cup-tied should all mean that he would cost much lesser than the £22 million that was offered in August. My concern on Alves would remain. He is more effective on the attacks than on defence. Defensively, if we still have a weak link in the right back, we would not have got value for money. Still that’s something the coach can manage. Avram will make it clear to the players on what he expects.

While a Dani Alves deal can still disappear given the cockiness in Sevilla’s approach, there’s a sniff on Maicon, the right back from Inter. It beats me why Inter should sell him or why Maicon would want to move from an incredibly successful Inter this season, and that too in January! May be, he wants to learn English or he likes English weather or it is cheaper to travel from London to the US than from Italy. Reasons can be anything, nowadays.

branislav-ivanovic.jpgRoman wants Avram to ‘consider’ signing Diniyar Bilyaletdinov and Branislav Ivanovic (pic) from Lokomotiv Moscow – the former a creative midfielder/winger and the latter a right back chased by Man Utd. Relatively unknown commodities but Roman wants these guys off Lokomotiv Moscow so that CSKA Moscow gets an advantage?! Avram won’t be able to tell Roman that he doesn’t want to sign unproven players for £20 million as Roman might retort ‘how proven were you by Sep 07′?

Time for another Tiago, with an extra ‘h’ this time. Chelsea are looking to sign Thiago Alcantara, a 16-year old from the Barca reserves. I’m not going to be overly excited. I almost expect to see some AC Milan or Real Madrid hijack the transfer and the kid starts matches for them next season. So there is the chase for another attacking midfielder.

By the way, if you already din’t know, Makelele has had an ear operation and would be unavailable for the next ‘few’ weeks. Certainly he could have chosen to get this operation some time later than now. For four to six weeks, we would be missing Essien, Mikel and Makelele – our army of holding midfielders. This might even force Avram to make changes to the formation and tactics, as Sidwell etc are miles away from the missing trio.

Despite these numerous rumours involving Chelsea, there is absolutely nothing about the outgoing players. That means either we are increasing our squad size or getting rid of some players without much noise. Who should we get rid off this January? Oh, that’s for another post.

4. Nihongo Blue - 28th Dec

very nice pic BC.. now isreli wont be complaining ;)

5. cap123 - 28th Dec

It’s about time we bought a proper attack, being chelsea i thought it was always strange to go for the likes of kalou, pizarro and swp (although he did look promising). Dani Alves is who i want most, but whatever happened to the van der vaart rumours?

6. oliviah - 28th Dec

would love to see anelka play for the blues

7. Cancorus - 28th Dec

The modric guy looks good, really good, more like nedved/zidane, great skill on the ball, good passin and very quick. Lets hope chelsea use him the right way. A combination of him n mikel in our midfield will be some thing else, speaks too well for the future. Hope we get him and anelka and the thiago guy.

8. Den - 28th Dec

cap123 i have been following van der vaarts transfer news and rumours very closly over the last couple of months and if rumours are set to be true then juventus have won the race to sign and are close to sealing a deal with hsv. On oher news, Anelka wold bring a whole different dimension to this team, you guys will see. The transfer of Anelka is pretty much already sealed and he will start banging them in for us i no time. As for Modric, i have seen a lot of him and hinesly i would have to say that he is a little(169cm) wonderkid, hes as creative as i have ever seen playing from CM pushing up to CAM and the wings, just creates and creates chances and wreakes havvoc for defenders. Personally Maicon will definatly be a good buy but lets be honest, there is no chance he will arrive in january, i mean seriosly why would he move form a succesfull and super inter side this season and hes also a first team regular in a great side, what more could you want! as for alves, that really would be great signing and its a fair chance he will arrive in january, about a month ago there where umours of chelsea renewing there interest in him and its 50/50 on that if it will happen. Bilyaletdinov is very much in the same mould as moric, he can play on the wings in our 4-3-3 formation and can also play anywhere in midfield, although you guys odnt know much about him i do and he would be a good sgning for the club. Now finally Branislav Ivanovic, this lad can play CB and RB very much like thomas ujflali(not correct spelling), can play both and could be brought in by avram for defensice cover, ben-haim is nowhere near good enough. In the end it looks like a January transfer window spending spree for avram and chelsea!!

9. Bella - 28th Dec

Well it seems Grant will be given the cash not surprisingly that Mourinho was refused but what worries me is that we appear to be increasing our squad size but not getting rid of any players.

So what happens if Modric, Anelka and these two other Roman “wants” for Russia appear on our doorstep? How will Grant incorporate them into our already packed midfield (in the case of Modric and Bilyaletdinov) and our defence if fit with the other Russian? How will Anelka put up with being second fiddle to Drogba upon his return and what will happen to Sheva who actually looked like a semi decent footballer the other day?

It’s all very well having this cash to splash but Grant has to get these new players incorporated quickly into the squad and keep the existing ones happy.

Having a large squad of players used to playing football week in week out for their old clubs will be difficult and I wonder if Grant is up to the job.

We also have to wonder what will happen to our famed team spirit that Mourinho so wonderfully fostered? Can Grant keep this going with a sudden influx of new blood?

10. - 28th Dec

The Mirror says Dinamo president Zdravko Mamic flew into London last night to conclude an £11million deal for the Croatia playmaker to join Sven Goran Eriksson’s City.

Modric, 22, can play wide right or wide left and was outstanding in Croatia’s double Euro 2008 qualifier victories over England, where he first came to boss Eriksson’s attention.

Modric will become Eriksson’s second signing of the January transfer window, following the capture of Mexico striker Nery Castillo from Shakhtar Donetsk on loan until the end of the season
THIS IS THE NEWS FROM TRIBALFOOTBALL : MAN CITY TO OUT BID CHELSEA FOR MODRIC

14. Den - 28th Dec

oh ya and about anelks, i think alot of oyu are forget about a 6 foot 4 21 year old striker by the name of franco di santo!!

15. Siddharth - 28th Dec

Why Chelsea is going after players who are already at their peak? What happens to Pizzaro if AG buys established striker? I feel pizarro will be loaned / sold to some other club in next summer.

instead i would prefer chelsea going for non established but promising players. all our strikers are almost in 30s (i dont count Kalou as striker & about Sahar and sinclair i dont know when they will start playing regular first team football).
why chelsea can not do something Wenger did with Eduardo, SAF did with Anderson, Nani. When SAF bought both these players. he made it clear that they are for future and may not get to play first team football in 07-08 season. Chelsea never seem to do it that way, now lamps is injured so there r rumours that we will enter into market for midfielder. last week Cech, Cudicini were injured and there were news about we going for Valencia keeper. Why it is that way? Even with such a big squad we never seem to kope with injuries well and still we claim that our team is not dependamt on 1 or 2 individuals. I totally disagree with that, when Drogs is out, we are not sure who will score goals. when JT is out, we are not sure who will stop goals, when Essien / Mikel is out we say midfield is poor. In Lamps and Drogs we have 50 % of the total goals. What the heck?

Every team faces injuries / suspensions. ex. Scholes, OH, RvP all are / were out for long time and everyone is important player to their respective clubs, but injuries have not reflected their results yet ( i do agree that when Rooney was out Utd were struggling).

Other problem is – how many top players, youngsters want to play for chelsea? in the last couple of years almost every top player was linked to chelsea at some point of time. Now that doesnt seem to be the case (except Ronaldinho). we are not able to lure youngsters either (Pato,Walcott, Drenthe).

So instead of diving into market for replacements of current players, chelsea should start looking at the future. thats why Arnsesan has been hired i believe.
we want to be top club by 2014-15, so we still have time in hand to build (not hire) good squad. Once we build good squad & win trophies with them, top players, youngsters will start thinking about playing for chelsea.

so i expect ( rather want) AG to go for players below / at 20 and not for immediate replacements.

16. AgentBlue - 28th Dec

I jus pary we get an offer for SWP!!!!!

Or us let him go 4 Free!!!

lol

17. Quark - 28th Dec

Chelsea should buy this peruvian player of 25 years old…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzvMQ4yqTKE

Its fantastic!!! As Maradona!!!

18. Bella - 28th Dec

I don’t know why anyone is talking about what Grant “wants”.

Clearly it is a case of Grant agreeing with whatever Roman “wants”.

These will be Roman’s buys that he will give to Grant – like Roman gave Sheva to Mourinho – an apparently unwanted gift.

This time, Grant will make no such complaints whatever players turn up.

I’m not sure if throwing money at the problem in the January transfer window is going to help us quite as much as people assume. It may well break what was a strong team (albeit with injuries) totally apart.

19. didier drogba the best - 28th Dec

luka modric is the best cm in world. look deco when he was 26 he become faomus modric is 22 and he is better then deco then.

20. blufan nr:1 - 28th Dec

dont want non of those players. please dont get any russian player. i want barry from aston villa, and some young french and portugese players. damn roman make this a fighting team again. i wanna se love for fotball not some russian players that just heard of fotball.

21. used2gonwatchcfc - 28th Dec

Well RA seems to have an eye for good russian players lol

22. Maysam - 28th Dec

Luca Madric :
We do not need any play maker. we have Ballack and Lampard and it is enough. Although Lampard is injured , he will be back in 4 or6 wee after that having 3 good play makers lead to many problems. ( like having Duff,Robben and Joe Cole)

Nicholas Anelka:
I like to see him in blue shirt. I said 4 months ago , we have to buy him. he is great.

Daniel Alves, Micon : Why do you think we need a right back. we have Frreira and Belletti. we do’t need more;

In my opinion , chelsea does not need any player. They should not spend their money this season because our only hope is CL and we have most players for them. chelsea should keep the money 50 and add another 50 to that at the end of the season. and buy any players they want , they have 100 , they can build another team if the want.

it is not a good idea to buy players for positions which players are injured or suspended. we should think which positions we do not have any players like Left wing. even if Malouda came back , we would need another lpayer for that position. but we have to wait becasue most players are not available fo Jan transfer lists, they will be avaialbe at the end of the season

23. MourofEssien - 28th Dec

hi guys, Merry Christmas to you all.
just watched the Luca boy. We need him as soon as yesterday. What vision and what skills……

24. CFC - 28th Dec

Ha ha everyone is behind the gossips from the news papers, i dont think all this players are going to join chelsea.

anelka might be a certain, but others, i doubt. with the likes of lampard and ballack, in the team if luka modric does comes to chelsea, hes not gonna get a regular starting place for atleast another cple of years, and if hes not someone after money, there is a chance, he might join spurs or man city, becos ramos will def offer him a regular first team so as sven,

As of maicon of inter, no chance, they r currently on top of seria A and in CL, if he join chelsea, he cant play in CL and that itself suggests he wont be joining, and he is a regular in roberto mancini’s first team and hes playing superb in inter and i dont think inter wud let him leave, if theres any chance, it wud be highly expensive.

Dany alves, i dont know, its like an ongoing story, he wants to come to chelsea, he dont, then he dint play for them, then he started, no idea.

the two pl ayers from lokomotive mosco, there is a chance both cud end up in chelsea, i cud see that happening. esp with romans reccomendation.

25. Den - 28th Dec

btw modric can play on both wings wings in our 4-3-3 formation aswell so you can count him a left winger as well as a right winger and a central midfielder

26. Den - 28th Dec

27. Sly the Blue Spy - 28th Dec

Guys you are missing the plot.
The chelsea team is not balanced and AG needs to get players to balance the squad. In addition we have some old players who will be top of their game for two more seasons maximum and itsa proven fact that old players are also very injury prone
-Sheva-31
ballack-31
Drogba-29
Lampard-30
Maka-34
carvalo-29

add to this we have a few players who are costing us because they are not team players and are just not delivering as expected namely

SWP
JOE COLE-very talented but he holds on to the ball too much and most of his fancy tricks always result in nothing, I prefer him as an impact player

Solomon kalou- an impact player too

so all our wingers need replacement

Pizzaro- is just not quick enough, we need a striker who can score regularly

Sidwell- not chelsea material should be off loaded

ben Haim- not chelsea material should be offloaded
ferreira-very slow, we need a quick right back
so here is the plan

we need to get a new set of wingers- the ones we have are just not good enough

we need another defender for cover to replace TBHm someone who can also play at full backcarvalo and Terry are always injured these days. there is a chance there will not play together the whole season

we need another striker to replace our aging strikers and provide cover

we need a midfielder to replace makalele and provide cover, also ifyou know your football very well it is clear that chelsea lack a playmaker who creates chances for strikers, all big teams have them.Drogba has excelled because he creates his own chances but they are very few strikers like that in the world , infcat he is the only one right now.

so here is my List AG if you read this forum

Defence
Buy IVanov- he can play at right back and be used as cover
Buy Modric- we need him in midfield
Buy Benzema- to play on the wings and be a back up striker
Buy Quaresma-wing
Buy Hunteelar-stiker
Buy Sergio Aguero- wing and as back up forward
Do not sell in Jan since all the above players are CL cup tied so basically we will be able to rest some of our current players from the league so they can focus on CL and use the new recruits a lot in the league

Come August offload

ferreira,TBH,SWP,Sidwell and Pizarro
loan Kalou so he can mature a bit, if Joe is not happy with being benched he can be sold too.
I can’t believe people are saying there is too many players
As you can see the players above that I want bought are young and for the future, in two seasons once Drogba, carvalo,Sheva, balack and lams are finished chelsea will have a world dominating team. we need to think of the future now.

28. king blues - 28th Dec

grab modric no one else needed in jan. lamps and drog will leave in summer when jose gets a club. bring quaresma and huntelar or benzema (hopefully) get rid of wrong phillips

On Aston Villa Game
————————-
i agree completely with your post…………we were piss poor…………i could not convince myself to watch the match after 18 min……………cech has been rushed back………….i don’t think he is fit………..

on avram positive…..attackin…..etc
—————————————
the worst way to form an opinion about a player, team is based on compilation…………….trust me youtube can make boulahrouz look like nesta or terry…………….the only flair or creativity we had in those days was down to our wingers[bought by mr.rainieri]…….joe,robben and duff
trust me we have never played like the way champions should do in ideal world

on newcastle game
————————-
again avram sucks aura around your post…………….the only thing i can confirm as of now in which jose is better than avram is hollywood type looks……….and oratory skills

30. Blue Champion - 28th Dec

TBF

I agree that youtube can be highly deceptive. But when we are chasing an unknown commodity, the best possible way to get some idea about the player is through youtube.

You say that we never played like the way champions should do in ideal world. While I don’t how you define ideal world, for me, we did play like champions, absolutely. I’m pretty sure we are not going to agree on this. So let’s leave it at that.

On your response to the newcastle post, if you think Jose is better than Avram only in looks and oratory skills, I’m terribly sorry. Either you don’t know certain things or you don’t want to admit.

Would you have chosen Avram Grant yourself for the Chelsea job after Jose was sacked? Don’t cheat yourself mate. You know, I know, we all know – he is just Avram Grant, a very very ordinary football coach, even if he is to win the champions league.

31. didier drogba the best - 28th Dec

modri? will stay in dinamo zagreb until 2009 said president zdravko mami?. he is rejected all offers . he want to se dinamo in europe next season .

32. blue_victoryAUS - 28th Dec

I want Quaresma, Benzema, Modric & Maicon

33. cap123 - 28th Dec

i don’t want quaresma’s sort at chelsea, he’s a pussy who doesn’t play the game. Wasted talent.

34. zingaro - 28th Dec

Who should go?
Vote
1 Pizarro
2 Sidwell
3 Ben Haim
4 Shevchenko

35. blue_victoryAUS - 28th Dec

CAP123 surley you jest, he is a great winger. Something we are in dire need for.

36. king blues - 28th Dec

sheva is proving his worth more over chelsea will not like to loose forwords in winter so if he scores 25-30 he stays i think sidwell will go back to reading TBH to the gutter

37. Blues_Godson - 28th Dec

@ Siddharth and @ Sly the Blue Spy

i do agree with your post and i think its about time we start building the team of the future…little unknown world class players that can stage a claim in any team….i believe the transfers thats Sly the Blue Spy listed are the best so the old players can be more focused on the CL and the new ones focus more on the premiership and other competetions…all our players are old and would be out of action in the next 2-3 seasons,we need new young talents that would come in now so by the time the old one’d pharses out, they would have fitted well into their shoe’s…

anelka has signed a new deal with his club keeping him till 2011,modric is more likely to go to Man city if his club allows him to leave…i dont think the russian players wanted by roman would do us any good..

i just hope avram does the right thing this january and he should please learn how to make good substitutions during a match…what is ten cate doing anyway????

its all good,we can all just talk and speculate, the people at the helm of affair would do what they want,i just hope they do the right thing, for the sake of our dearly beloved club and the sake of us the fans…

KTBFFH…CHELSEA BOY FOR LIFE

38. mike ayad - 28th Dec

I JUST READ THAT INTER TURNED DOWN A 60 MILLION BID FOR IBRAHIMOVIC AND MAICON.
I ALSO READ THAT AC MILAN WILL GET RONALDINHO ON JANUARY 1ST
AND THIRDLY MODRICS AGENT SAID HE WILL STAY WITH DINAMO FOR ANOTHER YEAR!!

39. izy - 28th Dec

Try get Kwamye Jones, Nicolas Anelka and David Villa or Luka Modric or Diniyar Bilyaletdinov and Branislav Ivanovic at least 4 of them i would choose Jones, Anelka,Villa and Luka Modric and get rid of the pizza man (pizzaro) rubbish Andriy and put Kaulo on loan.

40. luke - 28th Dec

Get rid of Ben haim he is so rubbish

41. king blues - 28th Dec

@izy
getting rid of your forwords and bringing 4 new players with no premiership experience will be suicidal

42. king blues - 28th Dec

and BC this editing thingy is quite good

43. Bella - 28th Dec

Well it appears Modric is now staying where he is for another season so that’s the end of that.

Anelka according to Megson has not had an offer tabled for him yet but I think this is only a matter of time.

I think Roman will try to push through the two Russian players.

As for TBF’s comment, if you really think the only difference between Mourinho and Grant is looks and how he talks – well I’m at a total loss!

Grant has cash to spend, lets hope he spends it wisely.

44. Jo - 28th Dec

offload——————buy
benhaim Branislav Ivanovic
ferriera alves
sidwell modric/vanderwaat
pizarro anelka
Swp Diniyar Bilyaletdinov

tt should be it…

sheva to stay…with new creative players to arrive at chelsea…sheva will have more chances to convert…

also….no big name replacement for goalkeeper as we got cech and cudicini…2 of the best keepers…

in no time…we can be a team tt play beautiful football…

so we have….Gk:cech,cudicini,hilario
Defenders:belleti,alves,terry,alex,carvalho,Ivanovic,a.cole,bridge
Mid:lampard,ballack,essien,mikel,J.cole,malouda,makelele(agreed to play in some games only),Diniyar Bilyaletdinov,vanderwaat/modric,kalou(to me,he’s a winger)
Forward: anelka,drogba(may be leaving),sheva

best formation/s…4-4-2 and 4-5-1

in my opinion, i think we should get quaresma, anelka, modric….we should get rid of pizarro…sheva? i think we should wait n see how he does this season….cause he is starting to look like he was in milan …..great!

46. True Blue Fusion - 28th Dec

@Bella
as for avram vs jose…………………………3 points
1.Jose would not have done any better than what Avram is doing now.
2.Jose had three seasons……………Avram had few months……….with a team which may or may not suit his style.
3.I mentioned “as of now”
Avram has cash to spend……….what do you mean jose didn’t have cash………what’s wrong if the club is not ready to pay 5 million pounds for a dud like tal ben haim who has 3 months left on his contract………..jose even had the option to buy daniel alves……….that del nido blow it by demanding sky high price………..he got malouda……….and what difference tal ben haim would have made to cfc………………this jose guy had the option to bring alex back in winter…………..but his ego………..alex was scounted by arnesen.

@Blue Champion
read the above post to bella

47. Den - 28th Dec

all off this offloading ben-haim talk, dont forget boulahrouz is coming back next season and he can be superstar, not joking!!!

48. joeblue - 28th Dec

This is not the ideal scenario to judge Avram anyways……………the man has got a half-fit squad, with players put on him rather than chosen by him, yet inspite of it all and moreover the incredible pressure on him to get results ,he is doing very well no question about it……………..but when ppl say are we playing beautiful football??? no, so whats the use………….i wanna ask back—did u expect an unknown man to come out of nowhere, after 9 odd games to handle a team constructed by Jose and playing for 3 years under his style to suddenly start doing wonders and matching Manu or Arsenal??
Did SAF just turn up one day, took hold of the players and start playing elegant football?? did Arsene?? its not a joke, tradation and support play an important role, if teams like United start playing football like us, watch the world go awry, let Grant settle, get the players he wants, have the team under him for a summer, and then judge him, if he fails u can rejoice, if not we will……………..

49. joeblue - 28th Dec

@Bella
Jose not given money?? lets set the jokes apart please…..he was given all the financial backing, and not to forget he threw away a lot of it on crap, dont let me get into the figures, and the only time he was told no was for Ben Haim, who TBF has said is a dud and that wld hav been a waste anyway……………………

50. loyadaygrit - 28th Dec

chelsea should buy saha or berbatove, anelka is lazy, also forsell is always an option, where are all the young chelsea players from the youth system.

51. king blues - 28th Dec

drogba and lampard are sure to leave i personally want modric and villa may be alves but i dont know wat we are going to do with 3 right backs ……..

52. Footballer - 28th Dec

joeblue . . as always you’re completely wrong. i’m waiting for you to talk something sensible so that we have an argument. your arguments of half-fit squad, pressure to get results etc were on Jose all three seasons and he won two league titles!!!

you say SAF and others took time for their elegant football. why did not we give that time to jose? when roman wanted titles, he got them. now if he wants anything else, he should give some time to jose.

53. Adonis - 28th Dec

There’s no one I’d rather see in a Chelsea shirt more than Dimitar Berbatov. Man U’s been eyeing him and if they sign him, I have absolutely no doubt they’ll win the league. He’s unbelievably good. Quite close to Drogba. He’s big, strong, a good shooter, good on the ball… If we get him, Pizarro, Kalou, and Sheva (assuming they’ll stay in a blue shirt) will be so much better. And it’d be so fantastic to see a Drogba and Berbatov partnering one another. Imagine, what a nightmare for defenders!!
He’s willing to go to a bigger club as well, suposedly. I’m not sure how much of that is true. But he’s the man, wherever he ends up, I hope it’s not a rival of ours.

54. Bella - 28th Dec

Looks like Anelka is a done deal and could play in the FA Cup on Saturday!

They are also apparently interested in Kevin Doyle from Reading.

They made an offer for Maicon but it was refused.

Also interested in Benni McCarthy.

Apparently Roman is going to spare Grant no expense and he can have a big a transfer kitty as he wants.

Fairly ironic considering only this summer Bruce Buck was talking about tightening our belts – but of course that was when Mourinho was manager.

So if Anelka is coming no Berbatov then.

55. Bella - 28th Dec

TBF
Your points.
1. I agree, I don’t think Jose could do better, I have never said he could.
2. True Grant has had only a few months but again today he was talking about how much our new style of football has changed in that time already, please do not insult my intelligence by telling me something which is patently untrue, he should keep his mouth shut as it is just not amusing to hear anymore.
3.Grant has cash to spend, Mourinho had none from January 2007 onwards. Malouda was bought by selling Robben, Sidwell was free, Pizarro was free, Alves was refused by Roman because he was too expensive so Belletti was bought for £3 million, Ben Haim was bought very cheaply as squad cover. But in January he was unable to buy any players, Alex could not come over due to visa problems, unlike Grant who will be able to, upwards of £50 million odd in his first transfer window. I stand by my statement, Jose had very little money given to him from January 2007 onwards.

Joe Blue

You seem confused Joe Blue, you appear to want to give Grant time to start his legacy and recognize that Fergie and Wenger had time to develop their style of play. Yet you are not prepared to give Mourinho similar time to do similar. I have some news for you, a manager cannot create a legacy in 3 years flat, silverware seemed fine to Roman and the fans when Jose was winning it and no one appeared to complain. However, apparently he was not to be given much time to take the team any further in terms of development.

If you are going to defend Grant and point towards Fergie and Wenger as examples of empire building then it seems odd that you damn Mourinho for not being good enough for doing what the latter two have done – when their combined time at their clubs total over thirty years!

If Grant sees out his 4 year contract then lets hope he can show us some of this new style football he keeps boasting about and fulfill the fans need to win silverware and leave of course a good enough legacy for the next manager – apparently you need to do all these things now to be considered good enough to pass muster as Chelsea manager.

bella, you’re right. in fact, joeblue is always confused lol

I just bought a biography about Jose Mourinho. JM Made in Portugal, it’s called. Seems interresting, I’ll read it soon.

About the transfer window, Anelka is going to be a helpful player. Pizarro and sometimes Kalou (I know, he has his moments) are more often than not underperformers, and so was Shevchenko until he impressed me in the past month. But Anelka is more in the Drogba mold, he has the areial game and is powerful and quick. I think he’ll be good partnering Drogba as well as Sheva, so it’s good.
I don’t know if we should buy a player that doesn’t seem that interrested in coming, like Modric. All the hype around him is interresting but I still haven’t seen anything realistic. Besides, I don’t know whether Chelsea truly needs another midfielder with so many available. Perhaps if we sell Sidwell and perhaps Makalele, who’s served us well and has been a top player for so long, but is past his prime, and let Mikel play more of the defensive-mid/holding-mid role… But I don’t see that happening. And with such a large roster, there’ll be unhappy players.

58. CaLiFoRNiCaTioN - 28th Dec

I don’t think we need any more players….

we got plenty of strikers…

we got plenty of middle fields…

3 golies…

what we need is a NEW MANAGER>…

we got the players…we just need to mold them

59. CaLiFoRNiCaTioN - 28th Dec

Guyss just imagine for one second….

we have Kalou …DROGBA….and ANELKA>….

those 3 players has the same techniques…they play very similar…

we have to have players that are different….

i wouldn’t like to see 3 forwards w/ the same characteristics …it will be really boring…and each of them, will be shooting from any distance…and there will not be no passes…

game will be boring…

turn off my t.v

Sorry for sounding so queer but I wonder if anybody has taken time to watch Spurs in action and noticed the skills and technique of this amazing Bulgarian. Surely Berbatov is the right guy to our problems. he always has the time to take his time in the penalty area, very skillfull, tactical and confident and can tear any defence into shreds and will have a go at goal.
If at all we are tactical enough and snatch a fabulous number 8, whose duty is to feed his striker (Berbatov) rather than shoot at goal all the time nothing can go wrong. To tell the truth, this guy is our best bet and should we loose the bid to Man United, this season we are out of it- not even arsenal who look better at the moment will be able to stand in Fergies way.

You dont believe what Ive just said? Look for the match highlights a 6-4 when spurs was up against Reading last year in Dec I promise you, you will be stunned

62. joeblue - 28th Dec

let me tell u something Bella, did Jose ever aspire to play beautiful football?? was it ever his aim??all he said was–’we got the result and thats what matters’ or ‘if u play beautiful football and dont win its no use’……………blah blah blah, 1st year–great the guy has won us the title let him take his time, 2 year—ok maybe he is upto something behind the scenes maybe, 3 season—where is the beauty??, 4th season–enugh is enugh………………………
the fact is that Jose never , ever aspired to make his team play pretty football, neither last season, this season or anywhere in the near future so what do u wait for?? sudden realization?? its never gona happen, with Arsene and SAF it was a slow transition everybody cld see the difference with time, i think this time too u were waiting for a sudden godly interference(or maybe Jose in the mirror acc to you)?? and one fine day our team wld turn up playing like Barca , what a load of bull………………….u keep waiting for that while the sensible move on…..thank god u are not the owner or we wld be waiting for the beauty till eternity………………

63. CaLiFoRNiCaTioN - 28th Dec

who wants to bet w/ me $100 american dollars that PIZARRO will not leave CHELSEA :D in january ?????

64. joeblue - 28th Dec

even i dont think Pizarro will leave in Jan Californication, on the other hand i wld love it if Berba signs for us, he is a class apart but minus that arrogant attitude of his, still its gonna be Anelka, not him……………………..

65. Bella - 28th Dec

And thank god Joe Blue you are not the owner of Chelsea, otherwise Jose would have been shown the door due to your great experiencce about how to formulate a team to please a very demanding owner in his second year by the sounds of it!

Instead of lambasting Mourinho, perhaps you should look to Roman and think if he hired Mourinho and knew what he was getting then who was to blame when he got fed up?

Jose or Roman?

I think that would be Roman.

I didn’t realise you knew Mourinho so well and could tell that he NEVER EVER intended to play attractive football. Are you related to him?

But then considering you seem obsessed with us playing like a clone of Barcelona or Arsenal, it’s no surprise you have been in obvious torment over the last three years under Jose’s pragmatic reign.

Did you not think that the Barca-Chelsea CL game from a few years back was entertaining and great football to watch? It was counterattacking football at its best and one of the most exhilarating games you will ever see. But apparently that is not good enough football for you, it is not football of the kind Arsenal or Barca play and therefore its not acceptable to you.

You seem extremely blinkered, apparently there is only one way to play football that pleases people and unless we play like Barca or Arsenal then its not “good football”.

Can I just remind you that Arsene Wenger who apparently is related to God he’s that sacred playing his “beautiful” game you rave about never beat Mourinho in all his time here?

Seems playing good football of the kind you demand we play doesn’t necessarily mean winning football.

I wonder if there are many ways to play football not just one way? Do Barca and Arsenal always play beautiful football? Or do you just like to keep thinking they do? Do they always win everything? Do they deserve to win everything because of how they play?

Instead of constantly aspiring to copy Arsenal why don’t you aspire to just be uniquely Chelsea instead?

Give my regards to Mourinho by the way since you appear to know him so intimately.

@ Joblue & Bella

I tend to agree with Joeblue on his assesment of JM style of play.
As a matter of fact you could see the transition during JM time allready :
from the Reneiry attacking style and somewhat naive to the heavily boring holding style of of JM. 3 years of transition .
That was his style at Porto .
So yes he was the right man for winning the trophies and start a new era in Chelsea, but he is the wrong guy to transform the team into an attractive winning team . That is not his natural view of the game-Simple. He saw himslef as a collectore of trophies irrespective how he plays and it manifested in his
view on the game and even more so on the type of players he spend so much money on. He counted the trophies with his fingers-I am sure you know what I am talking about.
And legacy is not built only on winning trophies it is the game you play as well
as winning. The owner was not happy to see his fortune wasted on average
skilled players who will fit the style of JM only.He had seen enough.
I am not even surprised that he forced Cheva on JM.He truly beleived that Cheva will help to change the style of the game. That how desperate he was .
I can not imagin why else he would do that.
However by doing so he signaled to JM what he wants and if JM can’t do that he should go.
By saying that I am not suggesting AG is the right guy or not.But it seems he is trying. You may not have noticed a change in the game ,but I do.Not huge but it is there.
The movement forward is somewhat faster .It is not only the long passes from lampard which dominate the game.It is the entire team which move forward passing the ball. However ,with the calliber of the players we have it is difficult to maintain this style during the entire match which on average looks as if nothing have changed.
And another thing which I have noticed.Cheva is given the freedem to play anywhere on the field to creat his own chances as well as to others.
This was the Cheva I remember from the serie A. He is a very fit fellow .
Time will tell ,but the signs are there.

Bella – Don’t waste your time. We all know you’re right. Any time spent with joeblue and the like is wasted.

see, BC already made a post about what is beautiful football

i want eto, barry, g. dos santos, and drenthe.

70. Adonis - 28th Dec

BlueFan nr:1, keep dreaming.
I wonder if any of the Valencia players are fed up with their team this year and would ask for a transfer. I heard some rumors about Villa doing that, and I think he’d be great if partnered with a big striker as he is by no means a replacement for striker. But he is a great complement for him.
And I don’t think we should sign a right back, but they have a fellow by the name of Miguel who’s constantly impressed me. I just wonder if these two players would be available.

71. Adonis - 28th Dec

Branislav Ivanovic seems like he would be a good addition to the squad because he can play anywhere along the back-line. We got Tal Ben Haim for that and he’s made quite costly mistakes and has been our worst defender. Perhaps if we ship him out, along with a rumored Bridge move to Liverpool for 6 mil. pounds (I would hate for this deal to take place), the sale of Ivanovic would be necessitated.

72. Adonis - 28th Dec

All the rumors about Ronaldinho have quickly died down. I hope it’s not completely out of the picture that he’ll be a Chelsea player by the end of the month. I realize he’s cup-tied, but at least he’ll be a player seldom injured who can bring exactly what chelsea needs… goal-scoring magic.
Whoever we do buy, I hope we have a new consistant free-kick taker. Lampard has been quite off, and we’ve seen as many people as Alex, Cole, Belletti, SWP, Shevchenko, Mikel, and Essien taking cracks from free-kicks. But we just don’t have that established, constant threat taking free-kicks. Ballack used to do it in a Bayern jersey, but apart from the goal last week, I haven’t seen him too effective (apart from the penalty spot :D )

74. used2gonwatchcfc - 28th Dec

This JoeBlue and What a Joke are confused people, did they watch the same match as i did?
The first and second seasons under JM chelsea played brilliant attacking football
with a very solid defence ans with a midfield that could shut shop.
And it is true after january 2007 RA never gave a penny to replace the players JM wanted, unlike now where RA is given AG £50KK to buy players so RA is trying to save face by appointing AG. But I still believe RA is the one who tells AG which players to play in the team, so why does he want to buy those russian players? they are crap sorry they are.
What joke and JoeBlue should get the DVDs and watch the match in the 1st and 2nd season under JM also watch the ones in CL.

75. Frank - 28th Dec

If franklampard leaves chelsea then will give room 4 deco and mikel in d m/field and if robinho and arshavincomes,i think players like swp, anelka, pizarro should be offloaded.
