Chelsea 0-0 Valencia | Match Drawn!
I pity Valencia. They are a very good team who are now in terrible form in domestic as well as european football. I wonder what would have been their mindset as they stepped onto the Stamford Bridge pitch. Pointless match for both teams. Atleast Chelsea did not have to travel, and could have used this match as a run-up to the Arsenal match. I don’t how motivated the Valencia players would have been as they had to travel all the way from Spain for this match. Of course, there is this UEFA cup spot but again, it’s just UEFA Cup spot. By the way, the next time Chelsea plays Valencia, I wonder who would David Villa be playing for!
I didn’t watch this match live. All that I hear is that we should have won by a margin but somehow we managed not to score. Valencia lacked motivation or interest with no one to inspire them (for what?). We fielded a pretty strong team with Essien, Lampard, Terry and Shevchenko. I wonder why Sheva had to subbed at the half time. He’s starting matches after a long time. He had started for the match against Sunderland and should start against Arsenal too. So I thought he’d get more playing minutes to keep himself sharp. Last thing I want to see is Sheva taking that extra second in which Toure nicks the ball.
The big pluses are the involvement of Petr Cech and Paulo Ferreira. Just when I’m gutted about not having Essien and Drogba for the Arsenal match, we’ve got Petr and Paulo back. That’s nice.
Avram said this after the match:
We want to be in the final. This is our target for the next years, but we want to do it this year. It was not important for qualification here but we wanted to play well and it was great football. We deserved 5-0 at least in this game. It is a good feeling to finish top of the group.
We knew this already. Chelsea does not expect to be in the champions league final until 2010. Sounds like our football has gone from good to great. Very good.
Liverpool and Real Madrid are through to the next round. Liverpool has been particularly impressive notching up three straight wins and scoring 16 goals in the process. Schalke progress as they put Rosenborg at the right pace in the table. Will be interesting to see if Arsenal finishes on top or not. If Sevilla beats Slavia Prague tomorrow, Arsenal will end up at No.2 and I guess they’d the draw Barcelona. How’d that be!
Meanwhile, lots of time (a day more than Arsenal has) to prepare for the super Sunday. Still we need to see who would be available for Arsenal than for Chelsea as we are almost sure about who might play for the Blues. Let’s see who recovers or who breaks their toe in the training.
A nice debatable post coming up your way sometime tomorrow or the day after! Till then, bye!
I think that this is so valuable as an inconsequential match because Chelsea needs to find a flow, to experiment a bit toward scoring goals with nothing to worry about should it open up a weakness across the back. I would consider this match to be worth more if the final score is to lose 6-5 than if we tie 0-0 or win 1-0, everyone talks about how we need to get more out of Shevchenko and Pizarro but that they need playing time to mesh with the team. Here is a chance to play an entire match against a good side where we can focus solely on uniting our “new” strikers to the team and exploring our offensive chemistry.
I do not care about what defines beautiful or not, but we must practice finishing! Pizarro and Sheva need goals and assists both out of this game, need to have their team-mates looking for and finding them. Of course, a rout would make me most happy, Come On Blues!!!
Match ended up 0-0.
Missed the match because no coverage but I saw a few highlights. Kalou missed an absolute SITTER right in front of the goal, he hit the bar from about 3 yards out with no keeper in front of him. Joe Cole had an effort rocket backoff the post too, but from outside the box.
It doesn’t matter though, it was basically a training session. 0-0 was good enough as we go through with Schalke (who won 3-1 over Rosenborg) and Valencia miss out on both UCL and Uefa Cup.
The formation was said to be a 4-2-3-1 by the way. I think Shevchenko would have been leading it with Pizarro, Kalou and Wright-Phillips behind. Maka came on for Sheva at half time to go to 4-3-3 but then JCole came on for Lamps at about 60mins to go back to 4-2-3-1.
Only disappointing thing about this match is that we didn’t score. Of course Kalou missed that easy chance but I mean we played all three of our strikers available. Hopefully they will be able to get the goals without Drogba here for the foreseeable future, I certainly believe they can and if Shevchenko is given the game time and the help from team mates in the passes he receives then I think he will be the one to fire.
Another positive from this match was the return of Cech, who kept a clean sheet. Also, Ben-Haim was present in defence when we got a clean sheet, and that has to be good. :) Haha.
I dunno wat is happening to Valencia
One of ma favs in Spain….with the class they possess is simply playing bull @ this point in time!
Im happy we didnt lose but Im trying to see wats happening with Valencia!!!!
Thats my challenge 4 Mourinho
Go and take that job and make something happen
Hope u hearing me ……..
Ur smart like I predicted…..U kicked the FA in the butt!! (haha)
plz take Valencia and rescue em……….
Glad we kept the record @ the bridge in tact……..
Thats wat im praying 4 for the rest of the season…..

Oh scrap that thought
I jus saw they topped their zone
I was not able to watch the game today as it was not shown over here, however I have read a few report’s online and it seems to have gone as expected. We pushed the tempo of the game in burst’s and then went back into our shell’s. Nothing extravagant.
Avram made the first ‘logical’ move at half time by taking off Shevchenko and replacing him with Makelele. I suggest this was in order to preserve Sheva’s legs ahead of the vital encounter at Emirates this weekend, and to also get a bit of run in Makelele’s legs who has not played in a while but will more than likely start against Arsenal. Although Mikel is a fantastic prospect I think he is a slight liability going into such a big game against Arsenal, some of his tackles can be nothing short of outrageous at times, and a red card against Arsenal at The Emirates could prove to be very costly come seasons end.
All in all can’t say I’m impressed by what I have read, but to be honest I suspected this score line as soon as we were guaranteed top spot.
I also read David Villa limped off injured can someone confirm this? And how serious it looked.
On a separate note, did see some of the Liverpool match and they looked really sharp, Harry Kewell is starting to prove his worth so that brings a smile to my face! Hope they draw with Manu this weekend.
BIG WEEKEND OF FOOTBALL COMING UP GUYS!
KTBFFH.
@AgentBlue
Our home record is only for domestic matches… not european matches.. remember we lost to barcelona.
Draw is good enough… liverpool finsished 2nd place!!! are we going to have pool this time in quarters??
i would like to avoid roma, liverpool, arsenal/sevilla. lets not draw against them. i know grant has lodsa luck. :)
Watched the match. For those who haddoubts about the quality of Pizarro, I hope they have been given the opportunity to see for themselves what that guy brings to attack. Shame we did not score but Piz is a such a creative attacking footballer- we need the guy to play more and lots of the “attacking cramps” we have been experiencing will be a thing of the past. I get this funny feeling, that just like the departure of Henry has liberated the attacking thrust of arsenal, so will the absence of Drogs cause some major attacking decontraction over the next few weeks. For this to happen, I will suggest the following formation for sunday. Here is to hoping that Grant will pay heed.
—————————————–Cech————————————————-
—-Belleti———————Alex——————–Terry———————-A Cole
——————————Mikel———————————Lamps————
———Joe Cole————————————————————-Kalou—-
————————–Sheva——————————–Pizarro————–
Nihongo_Blue,
the next round of the Champions League is not quarters but the 2nd round, and we cannot draw English teams.
MourofEssien – I would prefer something along the lines of:
—————————————–Cech————————————————-
—-Belleti———————Alex——————–Terry———————-A Cole
——————————MAKELELE———————————Lamps————
———SWP————————————————————-J COLE—-
————————–Sheva——————————–KALOU————–
With Cole & SWP switching wings to further torment the Arsenal defense. I didn’t see the game, so if Pizarro played exceptionaly well he way retain his spot but from what I have seen he has been less than convincing.
Blue Vict…,
I think at the moment that kalou is more productive helping the attack from the flank than SWP (since Grant took over unfortunately.)
keep a good eye on Pizarro my friend- he is the most intelligent and creative striker we have- he may not have as many goals under his belt like drogs and Sheva of old, but in terms of his overall ability to make things happen in the last third and create situations that allow for wave upon wave of attacking play, he is the best we have. all he needs is more play time. thats why am hoping that Grant realises this and allows him to partner Sheva while letting Kalou supports them from the flank.
maybe a slight variation like this this might actually bring even more from everyone-
—————————————–Cech————————————————-
—-Belleti———————Alex——————–Terry———————-A Cole
————————————————–Mikel—–————————
—————————J COLE——————————–Lamps———
—————————————Pizarro—————————————-
————— ————Sheva——–————–KALOU————————–
I do like that formation alot more, however still think Mikel is a bit of a liability. Makelele has been preserved for games like this so i suspect he may get a starting gig head of the ‘young one’.
It’s hard to get a picture of the Chelsea that will face Arsenal on the weekend because of this inconsequential match. On a side note, nice to see Chelsea Fc reduce the prices for this match and that 41,000+ turned out to cheer us on. A relatively entertaining 0-0, not really accurate reporting by Soccernet on this match!
Towards the end of the game the play did end up being quite individualistic. One of the fundamental problems seems to be that our forward play does not link up strongly without our direct play to Drogba. Too many times Kalou, SWP, Pizarro and Sheva put passes astray and as long as the defending team has men behind the ball we do not break them down.
With this in mind come January or the end of the season I’d like to see some players replaced.
1. SWP
His crossing and movement down the right flank is simply not good enough. He has scored some goals but his improvement and development as a player has not been sharp enough.
2. Shevchenko
Well our record of dud striker purchases continues here. 30mil has equalled laboured play and not enough goals. Pizarro moves better and is quicker and a good 2nd striker to Drogba. We need someone like Van Nistelrooy – a guaranteed goal scorer.
3. Kalou
A decent winger, especially at 22. Should get another season, but should be 3rd or 4th on our list of strikers. An attacking right winger/2nd striker is an imperative for us.
There’s my brief thoughts. Feel free to comment!
I feel we could nick a win at the Emirates but would be content with a draw. A loss would see us lose more than a few steps in the title race.
My team for Arsenal would be
My team to face Arsenal!
Cech
Cole Terry Alex Belleti
Mikel
Essien Lamps Joe Cole
Pizarro Kalou
JUMBO – unfortunately for us Essien is still unavailable for the clash against Arsenal.
M_D
yup. i forgot its not quarters but 1st knock out .

njoy!!
I didn’t watch the match last night but I want to know if we played classy, eye-pleasing , gung-ho , exhibitionist football ,
Anyone ?
@BC
u left us in a great suspense saying that a great article is in the offing.hoope u dont dissapoint us now. wanna a big debatable topic. really lickin my fingers at this prospect…..didnt see the match but i feel that how arsenal have reinvented themselves after the departure of HENRY maybe the time has come for the Blues to do the same …..this might be a blessing in disguise…..mark my words here…we are on our way to the title this season….cheer the blues….

i am goin to eat my words…………humbly…………………..i judged pizarro on his subs appereance………….but yesterday he was the motm without a doubt………………brilliant first touch…………..excellent vision[which i haven't seen in lampard at all]…………and great link up play……………….he reminded me of two players 1.berbatov-[i don't know whether he can be considered a benchmark or not ]for his skills, first touch, vision 2.dennis bergskamp-a player who is an extereme quality without pace

Goot match to watch although Valencia was never motivated and we should not use this to assess our preparedness. SWP sure is frustrating, after craftily and nibbly dribbling his marker, he just can’t supply the needed cross. what does AG need to do to improve this aspect of his game.
I was impressed with Joe cole playing the role of Frank Lampard and his short contributions was good.
for those who don’t know, Sheva is the joker for sunday’s match and AV had to remove him to preserve him fully fit for the match……..see how time changes fortune.
Good to see Peter Cech back and i believe we have matured over time as the best team to cope with injuries. hopefully you can rule them from coming but i sincerely hope we have all our players fit again.
cheerio and see you on sunday.

in the above post i put up the team heading to arsenal…maybe this time we can outscore the gunners and end up on equal points with them…………..
Hi guys,
I didnt see the match..just saw the highlights..pizzaro appers good in the support striker role..his finishing was horrible though
SWP as usual..brilliant build up..poor end product
We totally dominated Valencia, but to no avail..Our attack lacks the cutting edge..we need a gaol poacher..someone in the mould of Ruud Van N Roy..Someone to just bury the ball into the net
Jan is nearing..has the club opened negotiations with any player or their clubs or agents??..or is it possible to negotiate only after the transfer window starts??
I read in Tribal football that Kaka has premiership ambitions, Modric prefers Spain, Villa is honoured to be linked with Chelsea, Anelka faithful to Bolton, Sagnol being pursued by Chelsea n Man United,Mourinho to AC Milan n lots more stuff..dont know what to believe
Its good that we topped the group n progressed in the CL..the next few weeks are very tough..We play Arsenal,Liverpool{CC QF}, Blackburn, Aston Villa,Newcastle..all in December..then we head into Jan without our 4 top performers..tough times ahead..AG has to work some magic to ensure we stay on course for the Quadruple…
Cmon AG..Buy the players of ur choice with RA’s millions n Keep Chelsea on Top
Go Blues
TBF@21,
Cheers mate. You are a genuine article.
[...] Me parecio que el equipo español tuvo pocas ocasiones de gol (meparece que ninguna) y tuvo tambien mucha suerte a su favor y Canizares atajo bien.

solo si estuviera Carvalho

My team for the visit to Arse-Anal:
PC
JB-JT-AR-AC
OM-CM-FL
SWP-AS-JC
Subs: CC-BH-WB-SK-CP (SK & CP on for SWP & CM at 2nd half)
Some people think now is the best time for chelsea to go to highbury but it is wrong. Arsneal needs to win so it is kind of hard to beat them ; however, Liverpool is playing versus Manchester at our favorite time, they are ready.
I don’t think chelsea strikers score any goal versus Arsenal. Lampard with a powerful shot or Terry on corners may score.
I don’t think Arsenal strikers score either.
I predict 0-0 if PK or somethnig strang don’t happen

I hope grant does not use SWP in this game becasue arsenal defenders are fast and strong so SWP cannot benefits his speed.
where is malouda?
I can care less how we performed against Valencia, but I’m glad we didn’t lose or break our home record(s).
Now’s the most important game of the season, at the most important weekend of the championship so far.
Say, ManU lose (not gonna happen, not to Benitez’s men) and we win, we’ll be tied on points with Arsenal (probably second on goal difference.
That’ll be the most amazing thing ever.
BUT I truly don’t see us winning at the Emirates without Drogba, I see a score tie, 1-1 or 2-2. Essien and Alex to score.
And I don’t think Liverpool can defeat the Red Devils.
So I think that the biggest winner this weekend will unfortunately be Man U.
Here’s to me being wrong!
I hope the lovely Grant (I’ve decided to show people I really don’t hate the guy, I just don’t see what change he’s done…) uses his tactical superiority to baffle Wenger with the following formation:
————-Cech————–
Beletti-Alex-Terry-Bridge
——–Maka—————-
—–Mikel—–Lamps——–
——-Joey————Kalou—
———Sheva————–
It’s time for Shevchenko to finally step up. I can’t see him having any bigger chance, with January looming oh-so-soon.
team for arsenal:
————-Hilario————-
–ferriera–ben-haim–alex–bridge
—————Maka—————–
———–sidwell—mikel——–
—–Swp——————-sinclair
—————–Pizzarro———
its obvious that grant will not do what jose did so i dont think it will be a jose favourite 4-1-2-1-2 but a 4-2-3-1 if he plays defensive or if he wants to play attacking footie then a 4-3-3

this would be perfect if chelsea wanna win and hope swp provides quality crosses or drop him bring on sidwell on the left j cole on right forward. swp is very selfish he was the main reason we lost to aston villa he never delivered crosses when drog was in the box went for glory himself. if he would have done better and we won that game JOSE MIGHT HAVE STAYED
@33
where is lampard my friend?????do u think we will ever start such an important match without lampsy????????
Playing sheva as a lone man upfront on Sunday will be completely fruitless unless you guys want us to enter the game with a plan not to lose.
Sheva is No drogba- so why allow him to be sandwiched between two of the best tight markers in the EPL- Toure and Gallas?
that will make no sense at all to me.
we should play a 4-4-2 or a 4-4-1-1 (with piz behind sheva)
sheva must play with pizarro or kalou upfront- not alone. Joe cole should be made to play in midfield alongside lamps. The only Lele i want to see on Sunday is Mike(lele) not the ageing Maka(lele).
so here is mine once again. we sacrifice a bit of width, no doubt but we offset that playing arse at the passing game they think they have monopoly over. a shame essien is out- These are the games he just takes by the scalp.

I jus got off the phone with David Villa’s agent………..
He is desperate for a move to the premiership……
Plz Chelsea snap him up b4 loserfools capture him!
One a ma fav strikers………
Jus let him leave one a ma teams to another!!
Jus get hi, b4 Loserfools make the greatest signing in club footbal!!
Ma Loserfool counterpart is already trying to lure the ‘vampire’ to link up with the ‘kid.’
I dare say that would be a potent strikeforce for Loserpuddle!!
I couldn’t understand some parts of this article , but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
