Didier Drogba underwent that long overdue knee surgery today, after his knee supposedly locked to an extent that he could not even walk normally.

The operation was successful but the after care and rehabilitation would take 4 – 5 weeks, by which time he has to be in Ghana for the ACN. Assuming Ivory Coast makes good progress, it would be the third week of February when we see him again in Chelsea colours, if reports are to be believed.

The timing of the surgery is the most inopportune for Chelsea as we travel to the Emigrants stadium next weekend and play Liverpool in the league cup match. There is some cloud around the surgery as Didier appeared to have made clear that he wants to lead his nation to African Cup glory at any cost.
