Long, for once interesting, international break is over. The core of the Chelsea XI would be a disappointed lot as they are missing out on Euro 2008. In these circumstances, you won’t get a better premier league opponent than Derby County.
I’m unable to blog much today hence a short match preview. I can surely cover the team selection part. If Shevchenko does not start today, I don’t know when will he start. The kind of time Sheva needs on the ball is always given by such teams and he has always taken advantage of that. Since he came to Chelsea, he has been scoring against lowly opponents consistently and his League Cup scoring record shows that.
A goal fest should improve the morale of the English nationals after the mid-week disappointment. That’s why I want to see a strong 4-3-3 which should not make us ask if it is a 4-5-1.

Without Terry, carvalhio , cech it wont be easy even if its is derby. crucial will be to get the first goal as usually derby breaks down after they concede the first one. dont know why i feel a bad day for us.

back to action, and we cant get a much easier opponent than derby, but i wudnt take it as a roll over, its chelsea and am sure every one is fired up even the fans and shud be a good game. i have a feeling avaram grant might start with JT and TBH. i hope he drops drogba to bench and give sheva a chance.

Should be interesting. I would have still liked to see Cole/Malouda playing up front if for no other reason than to help Sheva get back in form!

Perhaps I was wrong. 16 minutes in, a superb move by Chelsea results in kalou slotting his side’s first shot-on-goal home into the back of the net.

Derby are man-marking Sheva in this 4-3-3 and it’s been very effective. He has had no time and has barely seen the ball. Fortunately, this has provided SWP and Kalou good amount of time to work with.
