Drogba – Disgusted or Disgusting?

didier-drogba.JPG

Drogba has been on the headlines for some days now. He is in fine form but that’s no reason to find his name in the tabloid headlines anymore. All that he needs to say is something bordering on remotely controversial or at least something vague or ambiguous. Of late, he’s been pretty clear on what he wants to say and the Press have a new scapegoat from Chelsea to make up for the loss of Mourinho.

Just before the Valencia match, he had said that he wants to leave Chelsea. He said something is definitely broken with Chelsea and went on to score a brilliant winner at Mestalla. Later on, he apologised for his outburst and committed his 100% to Chelsea. He scored more and looked all fine until this news broke.

In France, a DVD titled “The Incredible Destiny of Didier Drogba” was released last week where he had made some damning statements, at least some thought so! So what did he say after all?

I was disgusted. I realised that signing for Chelsea was disgusting. It’s hard to explain. It’s hard to understand because most of all, people see the financial side, or even the sporting side. But I simply wasn’t happy. I said to myself ‘I couldn’t give a damn’ that Marseille have accepted a bid. Maybe that’s going to shock supporters of Chelsea, but I didn’t want to leave. I even did some things that were almost absurd, in order not to go to Chelsea, such as during the medical. Going to the hospital in Paris, I was praying they would find a problem with my knee, or a problem with anything so the move would collapse.

The problem with being honest is that we are not used to so much honesty. A false honey-coated diplomacy would help him keep his fans and add more but he wants to speak his heart out. The above text is what is being circulated in the Press. Let me try to put this in perspective.

It was in 2004, when Chelsea was not quite a major force in English or European football. Drogba loved it at Marseille. He wanted to play there forever. He did not want to go anywhere, may be not to a club like Chelsea. He was disgusted. I repeat, he WAS disgusted. That WAS his feeling when he left Marseille for Chelsea. For me, that’s understandable and okay as long as he has changed his mind. Has he changed his mind?

I think so. He loved playing under Jose. He appeared to love the club, the fans and the adulation he got. The British Press scared, annoyed and insulted him. He went on to win the golden boot against all odds. Then his mentor was sacked in an unpleasant manner. He was reported to have cried and cried inconsolably. He said he wanted to leave Chelsea as he was unhappy. He is certainly not the first player to say he is unhappy at his club.

In the same DVD, he has said this too:

I again wanted to leave after the second season and it was a really tough time. Chelsea fans were whistling and jeering me and I don’t know many players who would like that – being booed by your own crowd. I was being accused of going down too easily – all kinds of rubbish. I reckon people were also getting after the manager at that time and, perhaps, one way to get at him was to have a go at me – one of the players who was closest to him. To destabilise Mourinho it was easy to have a go at me. Now I’m really proud that, after my third season in England, I managed to change the way people in this country looked at me and saw me as a footballer. Mourinho changed to 4-4-2 which allowed me to express myself much better and I had my best season ever, even exceeding my time at Marseille, which had been my yardstick up to then.

Hardly any player pledges his career or life for a club. Players come and players go. So are managers. In one line, Drogba just said that he did not want to leave Marseille then and now he is unhappy at Chelsea. I don’t see what’s the big fuss about all this. Papers sold a few thousands of copies more than usual, thanks to Drogba.

Having said so much, Drogba is replaceable. He’s given us some nice memories. I like him as a player, as a contributor to team’s success, as a selfless individual who gives his all every time he is on the pitch. But he is replaceable. Chelsea FC has stayed mum to his rants. Roman clearly does not like such type of big-mouthed people (as we saw with Jose) and should already be weighing his options for January.

I’d like him to stay despite all this, but wouldn’t be too worried if he leaves in May.

It saddens me to see such disloyalty to one of the Chels’ core men. We have JT, we have Lampsy, and we have the Drog: all nurtured by the genius of the Special One. They ARE Chelsea. Sure, Jose is gone but by the ‘foreign’ powers that be. There is no reason then to criticize Drog when he has before him a 4-year contract at the club he loves, but bared of the manager that he loves. I say to you whining fans, shut it. Drog is NOT replaceable. There is a reason why he tops the shortlists of two clubs in Milano. He’s Europes goddam best striker, he is! Golden Boot and all, how can you question his loyalty. He is not disgusted so much as heartbroken from the divorce that the club has forced upon him as well as his fellow Mourinho-nites. And he is certainly not disgusting. No, he is understandably upset and confused and has, most importantly, laid those feelings aside when the Bridge has called him to action. Drog never ceases to silence you critics. Come Tuesday we celebrate more success with Knock-out Qualification and, if i may predict, a Drogba brace.

Oh and seeing as this is my first post on this sizzling webpage, I’ll just add:
BRING BACK JOSE!

i dont think drogba is been disloyal to chlesea in anyway…he is just Goddamm been honest and honesty as you say BC,is not something we’re used to in life…its better to be diplomatic than really say how you feel….i really like Drogba alot and i sure would not like to see him leave chelsea anytime soon, but as i have come to realise in football, players, managers, fans and even owners come and go but the FOOTBALL CLUB forever remains eternal..which basically means anyone is replaceable..no matter how loyal or disloyal you are…

haaaa atleast some one supports me, thanks BC, my opinion was exactly the same as BC’s as i have posted it in the last macth report, why people jus look at the wrong side of things, he poured his heart out, and i genuinely think hes a very nice guy, i watched a video where he and the whole ivory cost team went on knees and pleeding the country to stop the civil war, which shows how much of a man he is, if he carry on the current form he is in, no way he is going to go end of the season, and i dont think chelsea wud want to sell him to anyone, he can be very deadly at times, as he has shown on many many occasions.

‘if a lie helps others then its better than a truth which destroys’…..
Drogba is one of the seniormost member of club and such unwarranted comments from him will send a dangerous signal abt dressing room….rather than contributing to rebuilt the team he is leaving no stone unturned to destroy all harmony….no doubt he identified himself a lot with Jose but changes are bound to come…should present and future be destroyed for sake of old memories….

I agree with some points highlighted in this article but i stand in complete disagreement with many points. Are you calling people who speak out their minds with honesty, big mouthed people? Then you are not analytical minded!Let me tell you that people like Drogba or Jose are not hypocrite, they don’t speak out on the absence of whoever they want to speak about. They are real man who confront their antagonists. They don’t pretend to be what they are not or pretend to appreciate something…Moreover Drogba has nothing to prove in England anymore,he proved to many of his detractors wrong!!!He is a top and world class player, believe me team like AC and inter Milan are not going after fly-by-night players and they showed along with many big Europeans clubs serious interest in him!You guys talk about Drogba being replaceable, let me tell you something,Didi LOVE for Chelsea is immense and undeniable and if the board at Chelsea are not doing everything in their power to tie up Drogba in this coming summer,it will take them another 20 years to get a striker of his pedigree. At the moment let’s be honest(not hypocrite)there is not a striker of his calibre around the world right now,Drogba is simply the best striker world wide right now,it is not by chance that he’s been included in the FIFA WORLD XI TEAM this year!!!!May those who have eyes to see,see and those who have hears to hear, hear.

Hi Guys,

Theres no Doubt that Drogba is one of the best strikers on the planet now..but that doesnt give him the license to come out with these comments 3 years after joining Chelsea…why didnt he speak up for the last 3 plus years???..if he loved Marseille so much why did he leave??..its common sense that he left Marseille beacuse of the money he would recieve at Chelsea..n he says he didnt leave because of the maney..thats a HUGE lie..NO CLUB would sell their top player unless the player wanted to leave..

The crowd booing him n all was in poor taste..I agree with that..No player appreciates being booed by his home crowd..but hes a top professional n should do his job instead of worrying about other things..just look at lampard..The english fans now boo him every time he puts on an England jersey..he just ignores it n gives his best. That should be the attitude of all top professionals

Even now, he talks of moving only to Real, Barca, Milan, Inter..if his heart n soul is in Marseille..why not go back…I admire drogba as a player n a human being..but his latest comments are DISGUSTING..

Hes a senior player at chelsea and he should know his responsibilities towards the club..his comments will certainly affect the PR of Chelsea..He has no right to do that..He should know better than to run his mouth off like this.

In the last 3 plus years, only Gallas left Chelsea with bad publicity..All the other players who left likE Eidur, Duff, robben, Crespo etc had no complaints..If Drogba wants to leave, he should also leave in a dignified manner..not by making bullshit comments.

Reason for Roman to let Drogba go and go with his boy, Sheva? Might not be a bad choice with Sheva *seemingly* getting back on some kind of semblance of form. Hopefully, we shall see.

9. Den - 6th Nov

huntelaar or lulinha his replacement

10. jackblue - 6th Nov

FRED his replacement.

11. Den - 6th Nov

Fred is crap

12. moyo. - 6th Nov

anyone saying that fred, huntelaar or lulinha(or wahtever you call them) will replace drogba is simply insane. Drogba is the best and he is irreplacable. Every player has freedom of speech and Drogba is not a coward. He spoke out his mind and this shows that he is a real man.

13. Cashif - 6th Nov

completely different kinds of players

LILINHA — just a kid with pace and fancy Ronaldo style footwork
hardl a proven goalscorer

FRED — about as fast as your granny – even with knickers on fire…
has a decent finish on him though.

HUNTELAAR — about as fast as yiour granny with her nickers on fire and your grandad draggin her hefty arse. ie – not much faster than Fred.

DROGBA — Power, pace, great in the air, good link up lay (someimes a little loose, but we can forgive him for that) and prolific scoring ability.

erratic but Consistent with a tendancy to display his various bumps and bruises to anyone who has half an eye.
