John Terry, one of the best defenders in Europe, needed someone to defend him and there was Avram Grant. This old man keeps impressing. Grant generally looks quiet and when he starts talking, he was even more boring. His accent makes it really difficult to follow him. I’m never too keen to download his interviews as the printed text would carry more emotions than his face. But he is changing or he has started showing the other faces that we haven’t seen yet!

Gerry Sutcliffe, sports minister of the United Kingdom, has unwarrantedly launched an attack on John Terry’s salary. First up, it was in poor taste. If I’m Terry, I don’t expect the sports minister to say it in public that I get loads of money which was made to sound I don’t deserve it.

Avram Grant has responded to Gerry Sutcliffe very very strongly saying ‘you’re not paying his money, shut up and mind your business’ or something like that.

I have my opinion about this. John is the captain and you need to learn how he led the team with full commitment in a very difficult time. This is leadership, this is captaincy. He deserves every penny. His leadership, I can guarantee you, is one of the top in the history of this position. Everybody likes to speak about the money of the footballers. Why does nobody speak about singers who get more money in one year than any player? Why don’t they speak about talented tennis players like Maria Sharapova for example, who, I think, at 20 years old, has more money than any other player. Even if you think life is very easy for footballers, they have a short time to be a professional and if they succeed they deserve the money. I am not a politician but I need the Government to care about not how much John Terry earns because they don’t pay even one penny. They need to take care of the people who don’t have money and to help them as we try to help them. This is more important for the Government. There are many, many people who need the help of the Government instead of an opinion about how much John Terry or Madonna have in their pockets.

Well, he almost said what I wanted to say on this topic. First up, the salaries are determined by market forces. If someone deserves it, he gets it and the moment he doesn’t deserve it, he’ll stop getting it. No one wants to give away money just like that. Football is big business and every pound invested is expected to bring some profit, at least in the long run. Not sure if Gerry Sutcliffe would pay 50,000 pounds per week to his chauffeur, just because he’s got money. You get what you deserve. As simple as that.

Once again, here goes Grant:

I am not a politician but I need the Government to care about not how much John Terry earns because they don’t pay even one penny. They need to take care of the people who don’t have money and to help them as we try to help them. This is more important for the Government. There are many, many people who need the help of the Government instead of an opinion about how much John Terry or Madonna have in their pockets.

Ooooh! I’m loving it. Yes minister! Eat this!
