Wigan vs Chelsea | 03-Nov-07 @ 15:00 UK
After two matches of contrasting styles, now I’m left unsure of what to expect in this match. We tore Man City to pieces and had a nail biting win against Leicester. If these two teams had swapped places, I would not have complained much about those results. Obviously there are problems in defence at the moment. While we kept clean sheets for so many matches, I don’t see how this defence has played so poorly that we concede three at home to Leicester. Whatever problems we have, I don’t think Wigan would be able to exploit. They have been poor and they have been struggling.
With Lampard finding his scoring boots, Shevchenko appearing confident after a good goal, we should fancy a good win. High scoring clean sheeter, may be. In team news, Wayne Bridge is back after serving the ban for the red card earned in a reserve match (strange!). Bridge’ arrival could end the agony for Ben Haim. Ferreira and Terry would be out for more than four weeks I guess. This means Avram would start with Belletti, Alex, Carvalho and Bridge.
I would expect Avram to start with Drogba and Shevchenko. The midfield would be Lampard and Essien while the side midfielders are Joe Cole and Malouda. Bridge and Malouda on the left hand side with Drogba on the far post would surely be productive.
I hope we get another early goal this match too. These early goals really set the pace for the match, builds confidence and allows us to take more risks. If we score a couple of goals in the first half and do not plan to shut off the match, we can score more against this Wigan team. I hope AG does not go out of the way looking for a big score and ends drawing or losing.

The big match Arsenal vs Chelsea kick off at 12:45 UK. Hoping for another big match draw. If they share points and Chelsea beats Wigan, we’ll be in No.3 until and unless Man City beats on Sunderland on Monday. Arsenal are unbeaten and Man Utd have scored 16 goals in their last four matches. Looking at how Rooney and Tevez are playing together and for each other, I’d say Man Utd are the firm favourites for this match.

eh i spotted a mistake….its arsenal vs man u…gr8 post….i believe shevchenko is getting his reward for all the hard work he put in…PIzarro is gd too…both of them will have the chance when drogba leaves for African Nations Cup…

i have a feeling avaram grant might again go for the 4-3-3 formation with drogba the lone striker supported by 2 wingers with mikel, essien and lampard in the mid field, sheva , pizz on the bench. I would personally prefer BC’s idea of 2 midfields with 2 strikers and 2 wingers. gives a bit more attacking option than a 3 men midfield. if we score an early goal, then i could see an easy win.

I like what you’ve done with the blog. Sorry I missed the Leicester match (which probably wasn’t broadcast over here anyhow). Glad that Lamps is scoring again.
I predict 3-0 for Chelsea. Grant will not play with the same defenders against Wigan that he played against Leicester. Cech, Belletti, Bridge, Alex, and Carvalho will smother any attack that can get past our midfield (and that won’t happen but every so often). What we look like up front will not matter too much as long as Drogba starts and is healthy. I really like Lampard as captain. Should this be a pernament move or give the arm band back to JT when he is healthy? I wish I could see the Gooners and Man U. But, I’ll be happy enough to see Blackburn slap Rafa for three points!

The Carling Cup quarter-final draw has been made and, Chelsea will host Liverpool. The other three games are: West Ham v Everton, Manchester City v Tottenham, Blackburn v Arsenal.

Good first half, but it was easy. Bad second half but we got the clean sheet.
Dissappointed Sheva didn’t play and Malouda was very very poor.

Superb play by Wright Phillips! he’s in his top form.. but malouda was kinda slower than he usually is..
@BC, very impressive layout,, and i can see adds as well, means someone is becoming richer hahaha,,, against leicester the combination of benhaim and alex didnt work at all. i dont know the guy seems to be awful somtime, he was a decent player at bolton and every time he plays for chelsea same old story, not at all comfirtable on the ball, but with ricardo and alex, it will take some thing for wigan to score, but bbc has reported most of the players are back from injury for wigan, “Struggling Wigan are almost at full strength with Mario Melchiot, Denny Landzaat, Antonio Valencia and Antoine Sibierski all now back to fitness.” thats a bit of worry they are all good players. but chelsea at this kind of form i dont think anything less than a 3-0 or even a 4-1 would be surprising, may be i am too over confident, well hoping for a big draw at the early kick of between arsenal and man utd. balckburn might beat liverpool which will be fantastic. enjoy the game everyone.
