Avram Grant is not bad after all! He is winning matches or Chelsea continues to win matches with him as the coach – more of the latter than the earlier, I guess. Important win in the context of qualification for the knock outs. Drogba and Malouda score one each in a match played at the Bridge after a month.

As we are not one of the top few biggest clubs in the world, this Chelsea match was not telecast on TV in my part of the world. While there dozens of music channels playing the same boring stuff 2000 times, I wish we had more sports channels or some bloody arrangement like in Sky Sports to choose the matches we want to see. I guess this annoyance would continue until 2015 ;-)

Back to the match, our first goal was plain lucky for a pointless shot. You can see that goal very soon in the goalkeeper howler compilations on Youtube. Second goal was a Drogba special. By the looks of it, Schalke appeared to have played really well and were quite unfortunate to score once.

While I’m coming to terms with accepting Avram Grant as the permanent coach of Chelsea FC, he still seems to retain those irritants that makes the process longer than it should last. See what he has to say about this match:

We wanted to start well and we did that – not just the goal but by playing good football. Then we rested but we scored early again in the second half and could have had more goals, but the important thing is that we won and continued to improve. Schalke hit the post and I didn’t see what happened with the Alex incident, but we had four or five chances to score again. Today was Roman Abramovich’s 41st birthday so, for him, it’s good. He deserves it and has done so much for the team and the fans, so I wish him a happy birthday.

Good football. We should stop using that term, shall we? I didn’t see the match so I can’t really comment on how we played. Even if Grant’s own script was beautifully executed, it would help Grant and his image, to stop talking about it, to allow others to point out and appreciate. Also, if I were in his place, I’d avoid talking about Roman for some time and you should know why!

Liverpool are probably a match away from elimination! Wooohooo! It must be a nightmare of Rafa to see that they are faltering in the only competition they compete. I guess if they don’t win all the remaining three matches, they can ‘concentrate’ more on the premier league instead of the champions league, the reverse of which was happening in the last few seasons.

I’m not able to find time to update the blog as much as I used to. Blame it on the FIFA 08 on XBOX 360. It’s fun and I’m just loving it that I can’t put it down. On Nov 2, I expect to get PES 2008 too. I’m ready to take Chelsea to new heights!
