Drogba wants to leave Chelsea | Anyone’s Surprised?
Which is the right word to use now - ‘panic’ or ‘transition’? I’m sure Roman would have thought of the collateral damage of sacking Jose. In a time where we will be quite happy to cling on to a top 4 finish, Drogba has publicly stated that he wants to leave Chelsea. He just signed a 4-year contract last season. Though Chelsea FC has said that Drogba, as a professional, is expected to see out his contract. Professional contract is one thing and the willingness, hunger and desire to perform is another.
Players wanting to leave their club is as common as Robinson’s screwed parries. The words that Drogba has uttered on why he wants to leave Chelsea is what is worrisome. Clearly, he does not have the desire and he wants Roman and Avram to know that. He does not want to score 30+ goals only to see Avram/Roman seeing their point proven. Simply, he does not want to contribute to combined forces of Roman and Avram.
The sole reason for Drogba’s outburst has been the way Jose and his departure were handled. Drogba also claims that Jose called him over the phone to convey the news of his leaving and told him the precise reason why he was sacked. Drogba would not share that though.
We now know exactly what happened and also who caused Jose’s departure. During the days that immediately followed I found it hard to look certain players in the eye without getting angry. When you give your backing to a coach [as the Chelsea board did at the end of last season], you have to then give him until December unless there is a major crisis. But it seems that Abramovich has since altered his philosophy.
Certain things were done that went against everything that this group had stood for before. I can understand that some players wanted to see the coach get sacked because they hoped to play a little more under a new manager. But some of the behaviour in this case went well beyond the classic scenario. Things went much too far. It is perhaps too strong to talk of treasons, but these were real human deceptions. And I can now understand much better why the coach, who was very close to many of his players, told us when he left, ‘I want you to know that I am very happy to be leaving this place’.
‘Some players wanted to see the coach sacked’ - He is talking about his own colleague that he would be training and playing with. It’s not difficult to guess who these players are. Having said such a statement, I don’t see how he can work with them any more with co-operation.
The bottomline from Drogba is this:
I want to leave Chelsea. Something is broken with Chelsea. The damage is big in the dressing room. I know that Ronaldinho and Kaka are linked to come next season but even that won’t change my mind.
That says it all. He is paid big money. He is a big star in England and Europe. He is a darling of the fans. He is always sure to start when he is fit. He has some high profile, high quality colleagues and could have even bigger players around him. He still wants to leave. I’m not surprised. There is always this thing called job satisfaction which is a product of various things including respect, freedom, justice etc.
Roman wanted to sack Jose and that was within his rights, well everything in Chelsea is within his rights. But what he failed to realise or discounted is the fact that there is this ‘people factor’ which is as important as players, coach, money, stadium, academy etc. He should have comforted his players (and may be fans too) by explaining why Jose was sacked and what is the plan B. That way, he could have wiped away players’ disappointment, but atleast they would be looking forward to the future.
Roman has the money to sell all 11 players and get a fresh and equal replacements. But I’m not sure when again the set of 11 players would make us feel that they are a team and have the spirit that Jose’s teams have always showed. Never once under Jose, I had this feeling that our players are in Chelsea just for money.
Also such uncertainties are not really helping our chances to our ‘charge’ to the top 4 finish. If one thing is certain, that is Chelse would gear up for some serious shopping, which if done in January last season, we might have even won the title!
In the last three seasons, Chelsea never faced a crisis. There was no crisis when we lost the champions league semi finals twice and there was no crisis when we could not win the premier league title for a third time in a row. Drogba wants to leave, Malouda is unhappy, Ashley Cole is frustrated, Shevchenko sees no future here, Ballack is unsure of his decision, Carvalho is rocked, Lampard doesn’t want to sign another contract, Terry didn’t sign one until Jose had confirmed of his stay, Clarke looks to leave - whatever happened to the ‘happy family’!

I wanna write about that but I am kind of sleepy , but I have to tell you guys, no player is bigger than Chelsea.

@Everyone
NO PLAYER IS BIGGER THAN THE CLUB…….
I completely agree. No player, coach or owner is bigger than the club. All I want to say is we’ve got ourselves into very unpleasant situations. If Drogba wants to leave, let him leave. We will get a good replacement anyway. When we are we going to be one ‘happy family’ again?
5. Nihongo Blue
no player is bigger than the club but neither the club becomes big if it does not respect its contributors.

I hate to break it to you guys but in this case, the owner IS bigger than the club.with regard to drogba.why couldnt he keep these amazing statements till january?why now?can he actually come out in front of the stamford bridge fans again?he says he wanted to leave the day he arrived and i just cannot believe that statement i absolutely cannot.someone explain this to me.
7. Johnarejr
True, no player nor manager is bigger than the club. However, when a player, manager, or owner makes decisions that ruin team chemistry, he ruins the club. Right now, the team’s morale is somewhat recovering with a couple of victories. But, nowhere near as high as it was before the sacking of Jose.
I believe that one day Chelsea may find that combination of players and management that will play great football. JM ain’t the only manager God ever made. Drogs ain’t the only striker that can make 20+ goals per season. Lamps, Riccy, Carlo, heck all of them can go. Chelsea will remain for another 100 years.
But, heaven help the club in the next 100 years. The 2004-2007 Teams and their manager will be a tough act to match.

there is a part of a contract which most of the time is unwritten. most of these players committed to chelsea because of jose and for him to be treated the way he was, it sends out the signal that chelsea isn’t worth dying for. Cos if they can do this to jose then everybody else in the club can be discarded like a piece of used tissue. yeah! it is true, no player is bigger than chelsea but it is also true that chelsea is not worth dying for. Let’s see who will bring in the trophies.
jose u have my unconditional love and respect.

I guess its JT that he was referring to.

I agree no one player is bigger than the club, but a mass exodus could undo all the great work Mourinho did in creating a cohesive unit. Keynon promised there would not be a mass exodus from Chelsea in the Summer but the Drogba quotes only highlight that there are a lot of unhappy players.
Carvalho said after Mourinho’s exit “It is a very sad day for me and the team, I had a big offer from Real Madrid but I stayed at Chelsea because of Mourinho.” What if Real come calling again?
We need a World class manager to hold onto these players!!
11. MourofEssien
why am I not surprised? Its not just the way Jose was sacked but rather the effrontery Roman has to impose on these players Grant. Unless Roman wakes up early enough and get rid of that guy, the exodus wil make us weaker. Remember new players are not the answer in The EPL where sometimes it takes at least two to three seasons for players to settle.
O, Roman, what bug has bitten you?
12. MourofEssien
I really fear for my beloved blues unless Rpman eats the humble pie soon by admitting that his move was completely rash, gets rid of the muppet and have a long and frank chat with the players. Otherwise, we can brink all those fancy guys like kaka etc but the team spirit Jose built will be gone forever.
13. MourofEssien
Methinks the main culprits Drogs is talking bout are JT and Joey.

1. no player is bigger than the club.
2. the club is made up of people.
3. players are people.
4 every club is driven by team work.
5.team work presumes the existence of a team.
6. teams are made up of people.
7. players are people.
Clubs do not win trophies. Teams do. Its just a matter of which banner the team is flying. Thats why its important to keep the team functioning and insulated from all the Politics around the club.
Good luck Didi, you are a Chelsea legend now and always.
@all.
we all have heard this rhetoric, no one is bigger than this or that. In many cases , its the company you work for, your marriage, your country etc.
How many of those arrangements till exist? how many of us have changed jobs for various reasons, divorced spouses or even seen the break up of your beloved country?
Why should we judge others harshly just because they happen to react the same way we have or would?
Wish them well and let them go. As for players being bigger than their clubs, I believe there was a club called Napoli. where are they now? lol!!!
I dont even know why Roman is trying so hard. with the billions, he should just commision someone to produce gold replicas of all the trophies available. Please don’t sneer or laugh at this thought. Unless something changes, It might actually be the only way Chelsea will add trophies to its trophy cabinet.

Jose’s Departure:Larger Context
——————————————————————
Every true blue in the world will find that his/her club is in the so-called deep crisis………..on paper or in reality this is a question which majority of us are unaware of…………this season has unwounded itself into a rollercoaster ride………to be frank we don’t know where are we heading.
within 2 months we have lost our most sucessful manager and we can be assured of the fact “come next may,we lose our best striker”
…………..and i am positive this is frank lampard’s last season at the bridge………….and another hunch which i can bet on malouda is also on odds for departure.
so where does this leave us……………???????
If we believe media then reason’s for jose’s departure
1.ego-clash with roman
2.internal conflict with dutch group[frank arnesen and pitt di vissier] at the bridge.
3.style of football
it’s upto us to believe which was the main reason for jose’s departure.
if the reasons were 1 & 2 then it was entirely wrong on the part of roman to take the step which has sent our season spinning.
if the reason was 3,roman may be justified but still the timing was ridiculuos…………….there are no second thoughts about it..
The Replacement
—————-
The replacement is ridiculuos according to majority of fans………jose’s departure and avram’s alleged part in the conspiracy makes every fan hate him…….to the extent…………if we lose “avram sucks”………..if we win”it was team spirit bestowed upon us by TSO”
here i feel we are being too harsh on the new man in charge………we can atleast give the new man some time………………arsene wenger and sven goran ericsson had good words for the man…………………and if you ask me…………he is A CEREMONIAL HEAD LIKE the indian president…………the real power is with henk ten cate and steve clarke……….it can be good move……….avram is not the type of guy who will start any kind of controversy through media…….
Drogba
——————–
With the statements he has given, even if he scores zillion goals this season…………….i will throw him out of the club even if he changes his mind………..every season he wants to leave……….now he claims he never wanted to come to chelsea……………….he has ridiculed the club to such an extent………..i just don’t WANT TO SAY ANYTHING

Without money you can’t win the league.
18. Pino
You should remember, Jose made chelsea to be in the top 10 of the world clubs. This is a big achievement even though Chelsea has not wobn the champion league. We cannot cry over spoilt milk. It is about time we stick together and avoid making the mistakes we have already done. I know for sure that Roman have seen his mistake and I do not think he will ever dare do it again. Pride have overridden Abrahamovic and you do not have to wait to hear from his mouth. I think we need to protect what is not loss b4 we lose it. Let us use a few of Jose’s statements, idiomatic expressions and metaphors to advice ourselves. He has left us but his spirit is still with us and we must protect that spirit.
19. Brian W
Not suprised at all. If he really wants to go, then let him go. Sell him this summer when he isn’t cup tied.
If we let him go though, we need to buy at least two quality strikers. Somebody proven (like Villa) and then an exciting youth (Huntelaar).
20. crew
i feel so sad that our situation is so pathetic. it is getting more and more ridiculous by the day. i like drogba but i dont support his such statements. but we should also go to the root of the problem. what makes him say all this? there must have been some unspeakable things that happend behind the screen. how the mighty have fallen???
21. owonatty
He is very sure about leaving chelsea come june. He is going to be a loss and CFC will miss him but life goes on

I personnally dont think anyone can blame Roman, end of the day he’s the one who owns it and he makes the ultimate command,
it has to be said the style of play was very bad from time to time, even last year there was plenty of games where we have to scrape through games with all these so called world class players.
I read in some magazine that the game at Old trafford between Man utd and Real Madrid was the inspiration to buy a football club, obviously with his money, power and management team he managed to win trophies one after another, but his chelsea team never made many of us sit on the edge of our seats with thrilling exciting football, its more of a militry style troup trying to defend the opposition, and i think he has every reason for asking his manager to produce more exciting football, said that, ofcourse Jose was not given the full control of the management, if you see Arsenal, wenger is the one who even decides what colour should be the dressing room, Jose didnt have that much freedom, but with the players he have he should be able to prodcue more flamboyent football.
Anyways jose is past and Avaram is the present, and as some one mentioned here since he’s not a very attention seeking person, he could be a ideal person to be a manager and with good coaching team and assistants it could be a good move.
team spirits, well i dont think Jose is the only man in football management to bring team spirit to a team, am sure there are players in chelsea dressing room who are ready to go forward with or with out jose , with them along with an array of dutch imports who are famous for attacking football, could be a very good turn around.
the thing is most of the media has become a joke now, no one can belive what they write in their columns. Unles and untill some one comes up from the board or Mr Roman himself and explains the reason why these changes has been made, it would clear the air, and many including droba might stay on for another few years. end of the day professionals want to play with big teams with great players and win trophies with huge pay checks, ofcourse exceptions are there always.
hopefully a 2-0 win for us against middlesborough. enjoy the match.
23. Maysam
Although Drogba stated he will stay at chelsea until end of the season, Chelsea should go for Anelka, Bolton is unstable, it is the best time to buy him.

ROMAN SPEND ANOTHER 500 MILLION POUNDS
I am glad that you have it too !

Roman , non-one is bigger than the club ie YOU !
You must save us from despair
You must save us CFC fans from the snickering of Arsey and Manure
You must cut out all dissent in the environs of Stamford Bridge
You must bring us mirth and joy with countless trophies
Only ….. you can make others smile
Only you…….
I will follow you….

guys, let’s talk about Chelsea-Boro , forget Drogba’s story.
I am really excited about this game, although I know it is too soon to see a big change in Chelsea.
I believe Chelsea should start like this
—————-Cech———————-
Belletti—-Terry-Carvaliho—Ashly(if reeady)
—————Makelele——————–
———Lampard—Essien——————-
SWP———————————J.Cole—
—————–Sheva————————–
I predict 2-0 Chelsea.

joseholiday, We dnt need the best players to win the title again, in 004-05 and 05-06 seasons we won the premiership with attacjing players like Duff, Robben, Crespo, Gudjonsen, drogba, cole and lamps. For next season we need players like Diego(werder breman), van der vaart, huntelaar, Raul garcia, benzema and so on. The players tht io have mentioned are all young, quick, skilfulled midfeilders with lots of flair that we are missing and they can all play one touich buetifull football like barca and man utd and arsenal do.
31. Nihongo Blue
boro is not in quite good form and the best way would be to attack from the begining and thats y i would play sidwell(he seems to me to get a favour from grant) . sheva should start as he was not on international duty for long time and returned to training very soon (commitment
)
I think grant will play us without a holding midfield player this match inspite of terry not being there… we need goals .. may be after scoring we can introduce mikel for sidwell…
maka not a chance to start … old fellow cant bear it after international break.. balletti for ferreira because he will be well rested.
cech
Belletti alex carvalhio hiam
SWP(malouda) sidwell lampard joe cole
Drogba sheva(kalou)
expect goal from lampard and kalou.
do not expect a clean sheet this match
32. Drogba wants to leave Chelsea | Anyone’s Surprised? | Chelsea
[...] (more…) [...]
i am of the opinion only reason lampard didnt buy out his contract, drogba at his peak didnt moved to any other club and carvalhio inspite of real madrids big offer didnt even gave a thought about it was to help jose win champions league this season.
malouda chose chelsea over liverpool because of jose. cudacini inspite of his willingness to play first team football in any other club stayed.
i cannot say about any other player but these players were more to jose than chelsea. i cannot see any of these players play for chelsea next season.
Now how big a loss it will be???
Drogba - big loss but we are in need of a young good striker but who is gonna groom him. grant? prem title needs drogba his work rate
carvalhio - VERY BIG LOSS if it happens
lampard - Big loss . will need a very good replacement.
And its inevitable there will be a mass exodus. There are things which money cant buy !!!
just think of the environment inside dressing room when such statement comes out a senior player. this season is gonna be difficult and it is not because of grant as a manager but more because of grants appointment to fuel things up… his sitting with jose during matches.
i think these players are feeling cheated by the club as they have taken away a season from their career and now they have to work against their own wish may be.
hope things will settle down quickly. but i m ready to see a new chelsea next season.
