Robben’s gone and that’s official. Official Chelsea FC website’s ‘elaborate three-liner‘ confirms that. He just needs to agree his personal terms but that should be rather smooth, given that he wants to play for Madrid. Elsewhere, Rafa Benitez asks some questions to FA on why Man Utd always gets the red carpet while the other clubs sweat their way out.

First up, Robben news. There are two good things about Robben’s exit. One is the millions of Euros that can be used to buy Daniel Alves and the other is, there won’t be this tiring news on Robben’s future anymore. I have a feeling that Robben would do well in Real Madrid, that is, if he stays fit. There won’t be those tough English tackles but conservative defending would mean he won’t get too much space to run through. But he is a player of high quality and is experienced enough to handle any kind of defence. Sad to lose him, but I wish him all the best.

The other signing that Real Madrid have made is Gabriel Heinze. After weeks of nasty scenes, Man Utd successfully denied Liverpool’s chances of signing Heinze. Fergie did not want him to be sold to their competitor club. I hope Real Madrid eliminates Man Utd from the champions league this season. Even that cannot console Rafa Benitez.

Rafa is asking some valid questions to the FA but what he did not acknowledge is, all these were already raised by Jose Mourinho last season and that time, it was shrugged by the Press as ‘excuses’. Rafa is obviously very upset but he does sound funny like he always does by saying he can’t win the league in such circumstances:

It’s going to be very difficult for us to win the Premier League because the other teams are so strong, but I want our supporters to know that, despite the disadvantages we have, we will fight all the way. We will fight to cope with our more difficult kick-off times and all the other decisions which are going against us

The FA did respond to his comments this way:

The Premier League try to make sure that our dealings with all our member clubs, including the scheduling of fixtures, are as fair as possible.“We are disappointed to read Rafael Benitez’s comments in the press, especially when channels exist for every member club to raise issues directly with the league

This season, even their twelfth man on the field could not rescue Man Utd so far. 2 points in 3 matches, with the referee doing his best with sending off opponent players, awarding free kicks at their will and giving generous stoppage times. At some point, in the Reading match, I felt that the referee wanted Man Utd to win the match, more than Sir Alex did.

With the Alves situation, I’m reminded of the ‘Football Manager’ game. You offer, they reject, you offer, they reject and you keep doing this until they fracture your face with a tight slap. I hope it doesn’t end that way to Chelsea. With the Robben money (undisclosed but should be more than Euro 20m I guess), if we don’t buy Alves, I don’t who else we could initiate a transfer request and get that done in another week’s time.

England lost to Germany 1-2 tonight and guess who scored? Super Frank Lampard! When Terry and Lampard are playing their hearts out for England, two Liverpool players are missing in the England team.

That’s it for now. Catch you later. Bye!
