Quick short post today. Not much Chelsea news around. Only that Maka has signed a contract, Styles has apologised (bloody hell!) to Liverpool for his penalty ‘error’, Daniel Alves does not rule out a move to Real Madrid and some other news. Read on.

Makelele has signed a one year extension of contract with Chelsea, which binds him until 2009. I’m kind of surprised at this. I thought he’s not going start matches anymore now that we have Essien (when he plays in midfield), Mikel, Diarra and Sidwell. That is too much of a competition for a man whose game is waning. While it’s good to have someone like Makelele on the bench for the European matches, I don’t see the benefit from Maka’s own point of view. For a player of his stature, not being able to start matches could be a downer. Anyway, he’s made a decision that he is staying with Chelsea. This can only be good news for us.

How ridiculous can this get? Rob Styles has apologised to Liverpool that his penalty decision in the Liverpool vs Chelsea match Sunday, was a mistake. I remember that Jose Mourinho had said in public that referees should also be interviewed and made to explain their very crucial match-defining decisions. Nobody read too much into that idea. Last season, blunder after blunder, no one ever apologised to Chelsea for the referee errors on penalties and red cards. When it’s Liverpool, Styles does not even wait for 24 hours to call Rafa to say sorry. Pathetic.

Did anyone apologise for not awarding the Tottenham goal in 04-05 against Man Utd, when the goalie cunningly collected the ball two feet beyond the goal line? Did anyone in La Liga apologise for the goal that Messi scored with his hand? Did anyone apologise for not awarding penalties at Old Trafford? I like the idea of referees apologising for their errors. not even to apologise, but just to admit they were wrong. But it should not be only for Liverpool. If it becomes a practice, then that’ll be fine.

And, to suggest that the match would have ended at 1-0 to Liverpool, if the penalty was not awarded, is plain naive and stupid. The penalty equaliser was not in the second half stoppage time. It was scored with about 30 minutes to go if I’m right. If this penalty was not given, anything could have happened. Five minutes later, if Drogba had managed to find the net, probably we could have nicked one more and could have finished 2-1. The bottomline is, I mean, anything could have happened.

Daniel Alves has finally uttered the words that you wouldn’t want him to say: Real Madrid. He says he doesn’t want lie about his Real Madrid interests. That’s fine but I’m sick of tracking players with so much hope only to see them ending up somewhere else: Pato, Drenthe, Anderson, Tevez etc. If it happens one more time, I’d be no better than an Arsenal fan. Finally, here is an interesting article on Lampard. I thought you should not miss this and hence the link.

Did you see who’s at No.11 in the Blue Champions Club fantasy league football? From relegation, I’ve improved into a mid-tabler. Just got rid off Ronaldo at the cost 20 transfer points. Hope it helps. I’m signing off then. Bye.
