John Terry has finally signed a new contract with Chelsea to stay until 2012. After a season where we saw a series of unfortunate events, this season has been very pleasant so far – Roman making peace with Jose, getting very crucial reinforcements, changing the formation and now Terry committing for the next five years.

Lampard and Robben are yet to sign their contracts, but that’s for another day. Terry is obviously relieved that this is finally over. The news is that it is 135k pounds a week, all adding upto a 35 million pound worth contract over 5 years. With this he becomes the highest paid premiership player.

I’m really happy this has now been concluded. There has been a lot of speculation but these things take time and I never had doubts that I wanted to stay at Chelsea and that the club wanted me to stay. I hope the fans can see that we are all trying to build something special here, both for now and for the future, and I want to be a part of that. I have been at Chelsea all my career and have the privilege of being captain. Now it’s time to look forward to the new season which we are all very confident about.

This is another step in Terry’s ultimate dream of managing the Chelsea team one day. By 2012, he would have spent 14 years in Chelsea, which is an incredible number for someone who’s second name is not Maldini.

Peter Kenyon must see this contract as another conquest, although little expensive:

This is an important day for Chelsea. This was the right deal for us and for John. As a club we are committed to try and keep our players together on long term deals and this was a natural progression from last season when other players also committed themselves for the long term. As captain, John is clearly a key player for Chelsea and also a great symbol of the club so naturally we are pleased this has been agreed.

He’s right. John Terry is a symbol of the Chelsea club, the spirit, the perseverance and the determination.

No news on Robben. At least he has not holidaying in Spain or gone shopping in Madrid. He is still recovering from his knee pain. May be because Robben is slipping away from the clutches of Madrid, they’ve turned towards Ballack.

I don’t think we should dispose Ballack. He should be with us. Towards the end of the last season, he was improving every match and also Ballack should remain to keep Lampard in check.

In other news, Man Utd get their red nose into another legal battle of this season. It’s still unsure for the general public if Tevez is now playing for West Ham or Man Utd, and in any case, no one’s still sure if they have credit Tevez’ salary to Tom or Dick because Harry owns him. Under these circumstances, Heinze has ‘ganged’ up with the Liverpool solicitors to sue Man Utd or to get himself to Liverpool. Will anyone ever leave Man Utd on a good note?

Remember, I was talking about buying Chelsea goodies. I’ve found a place where I can buy signed football shirts, football autographs or for that matter any sporting autographs. A photograph signed by Joe Mourinho himself sells around 70 pounds. And the centenary Chelsea home jersey signed by each of the first team players (all in one shirt) goes for 395 pounds. If it’s going to be their ink signature, it’s worth it and it’s nice piece of memorabilia to have.

Okay, we face Rangers today. Kick-off at 3:00 pm UK time. Let’s see more of flat 4-4-2 as it seems to add a dimension to our game. I’d like to see Sheva play all 90 minutes and Pizarro to start. Mikel and Essien in the midfield and Malouda and Joe Cole as side midfielders. Lampard, SWP and Drogba to walk in after 60 minutes. Will this be our first 3-goal haul of the season?

Finally, if you haven’t signed up for the Blue Champions Fantasy Football League, do it now. What are you waiting for?
