Feyenoord Friendly | Can We Also Play Shenzhen . . .
Chelsea travel to The Netherlands for the friendly against Feyenoord on Wednesday at 18:00 UK. So, they can stop playing soccer and resume their good old football, european style. Feyenoord will be easily the toughest of opponents for Chelsea this month. We’ll talk about this and also I’m sure you want to know how Man Utd won 6-0 against ‘that Chinese’ team.
Feyenoord Rotterdam, as you might know, is traditionally one of the top 3 teams in Holland but they are yet win a trophy since the start of this millenium. My memory tells me that they were expelled out of UEFA Cup due to hooliganism.
Our own Salomon Kalou was a Feyenoord player and may be this friendly is also a part of the deal, I don’t know. Last season, Feyenoord had to part with Kalou as well as Dirk Kuyt and ended up at No.9 in the Eredivisie. This season, they have made some key signings in Gio from Barca and Makaay from Bayern. Also there is a certain Royston Drenthe who plays for Feyenoord as right back or left back or right winger or left winger.
On Chelsea’s side, Pizarro has finally joined the team. Jose unveiled him by presenting the No.14 jersey. This is what Pizarro says on day one:
I will try to bring my football, my quality, my experience in Europe and the mix I have with South American football to try to win some titles here.
Makes it all sound very simple. I’m more curious to see the Latino part of his promise.
If I get opportunities it’s up to me to make it difficult to be left out of the side. I know there are lots of players here of excellent quality. I’ve seen that, it was my first training session with the group today, and I can see the quality at first hand.
Well, he too is aware of the mad rush for first team places in Chelsea. All players have shown good attitude and maturity towards the fact that they may not play all the matches and also that they are ready to fight for their places.
Jose says this about Pizarro:
Pizarro is a very good player and he’s a striker we need. We need a different striker than what we have, different qualities, and also because this season in many, many matches we will play with two pure strikers, so we need him. The question of being a free transfer was just an opportunity to make an easy deal.
He knows how to play in a big team, he knows how to play with pressure, he knows how to play and compete with other very good players, he knows how to win, he has the feeling of winning trophies and I’m very, very convinced that he will have success here.
He is intelligent, holds the ball well, not the kind of selfish striker who likes to shoot, he likes to move the ball well, he is good in the air and scores goals.
So, many matches we will play with two pure strikers. Does he mean 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 with a pure striker in the right/left wing? The word pure striker - is that a dig at Kalou, who’s played as a winger as well as a striker but unable to excel in both positions.
Against Feyenoord, I’d love to see a 3-0 or something but at this stage the score does not quite matter. I think we’d play flat 4-4-2 again with Drogba and Sheva upfront and Pizarro coming in for Sheva in the second half. I want to see Malouda and Joe Cole on either side with Essien and Lampard in the middle. With whatever I’ve seen of Malouda, I’m impressed. He is a strong lad with good pace and he has an eye for the goal.
I don’t see us playing any long balls anymore, which is in a way sad. We don’t need an overdose of it but we should certainly try it every now and then. It takes quite some skill to find the target man with your long ball and for the target man to take the ball and do his stuff. There is a lot of negative propaganda against the way Drogba is fed in the air. Let me repeat, that takes a lot of skill for executing that. This is a classic case of discrimination where if the ball was given by Carrick and chested and finished by Rooney, that would be ‘vision’ and ‘poetry in motion’ and when Lampard and Drogba do it, that becomes hoofing in the air. If you read and believe the Press propaganda, it’s up to you.
My expectation from this match is that we should play very well as a team with good link up play. More than winning, I want this friendly to be a good competitive match that really stretches and tests the Chelsea players.
Having followed the discussion in the comments section, I thought we should be reminded of how vibrant our game was, when we had no major injury worries. Is this beautiful football as per your vocabulary? That was Jose Mourinho’s first season in an alien league and he had a band of players playing their first season with Chelsea in a new league under a new manager. I’ll leave the rest to you.
And finally, the most important piece of the puzzle, that we’ve been trying solve since yesterday. Man Utd ‘thrashed’ the Chinese team 6-0. Here is the video:
Where is the defence? I mean, where is the defence. No marking, no blocking, no tackles. Man Utd were left on their own to run riot. They were not at all tested and they should know it themselves. Man Utd were physically superior and had 10 times more energy and gas to last 90 minutes. I’m happy that we didn’t bombard a hapless team and stay under an illusion that we’ve played great football. What do you say?

I can’t agree with you more. We are letting the propaganda get the better of us. Our opponents would wish we were still in the Ranieri era when we had money to splash on great names but had neither the character nor the mental toughness and consistency of champions. Jose has established that character over the last three seasons. Like he told the players when he took over in the firts season, When you win the first time, you start developing that winning mentality. Beautiful footfall we will certainly have this year since Jose has decided to discard the diamond and allow for a more fluent 4-4-2 or 4-3-1-1 or 3-5-2 depending on what needs to be done.
Those complaining about us, should trade places with Arse fans who are so gutted with the unproductive beautiful football. And for those who say Manure plays beautiful football, let me just remind them about how we kept them pinned in their own half at Old trafford last year when we were one goal down to them. We played beautiful attacking football and made them chase shadows for virtually the whole of the second half.

Moursofame ur just the type of fan we need…….Ppl who will recognize that when our team is down thast when we need to be there most to support em! I love Chelsea FC with everything in me….I cant help it! My girlfren first asked who was Chelsea(lol)!!
I got out out of that 1 relatively easily when she found out it was not some other woman….hehehehe!
Neway ya’ll get the point!
Forever Blues!!!
The premiership is ours once more!

Great post BC.
Watching the manure highlights all I could think of was if they could score if Cech was in goal. Ask yourselves the same thing. I think only the Nani goal was a goal that might have gone by him, the other ones I’m sure he could have dealt with.
LA’s game against Chelsea was much tougher, and we really should have won 3-0 at least… We were waistful, yes, but it really wasn’t a 1-0 performance just like this isn’t much of a 6-0 win.

hey if you live in the U.S., do you know what channel they will show the, Chelsea vs. Feyenoord, game on? and if they will show it besides on chelsea tv?

Any word on the seriousness of Robben’s injury…….Hmm I smell a rat?????
Aint it strange that one of our players is presumed injured and we have heard no reports on the seriousness of the injury and when he is expected to return????
All I know is that he suffered a knee injury in training…..Nothing more?????
Quite strange!!!!!!!

Com on guys…put it a good performance 2moro!!!!!
plz guys put Joeblue and Manish’s heart a little more ease……..

Now that Pizzarro is here, can anyone tell me how soon Alex is joining. I am excited about our new signings really. They may not be in the class of Sheva and when they joined last year but i think they are really good. Alex in the Copa finals kept the entire Argentina striking force quiet. He was easily my man of the match. I watched Peru and realised that Pizarro is real class- skillful, good vision, good passing and above all deadly in the air. I watched Ben haim against Galaxy and I was pleasantly surprised that even in an unfamiliar left back position, the guy played so well and made beautiful surging runs upfront to support the attack.

Agentblue,I am relaxed because I know whatever I have been saying is true and I am in line with reality….I can easily understand
whats going to happen as I am ‘willing’ to see reality….problem
arises when people can’t see(or ignore) obvious things like what happened last season….on a lighter note, 12-0 will do for me.

Mourofsame, I agree with you , however , I like Ranieri too.
where did manchester find that chinese team ?
I think Pizaroo will shock the EPL. I like him.
11. Maysam
by the way , what’s the Heinze’s stroy ?
why does he want to leave Manchester ?
it is funny
Fergusen did not let him go to Liverpool
12. Blue Champion
Maysam - It all started with the secret letter from Man Utd to Henize’s agent that shows that 6.8m pounds will be release fee for Heinze. The agent publicised this or shared this with Liverpool and they are knocking the Man Utd door with that money. Now Fergie does not want to release Heinze to a competitor, that too to Liverpool of all clubs. Read more here.

Your comments at the end of the post BC –(”Where is the defence? I mean, where is the defence. No marking, no blocking, no tackles. Man Utd were left on their own to run riot. They were not at all tested and they should know it themselves. Man Utd were physically superior and had 10 times more energy and gas to last 90 minutes.”) — just Re-Itterate the point i made yesterday tht was rubbished by Joe Blue!!!! ManUre have gone to play teams that will offer nothing more than a ego boost! Chelsea on the other hand have played against teams with a little substance about them, Look at the galaxy they were strong attacking and showed flair and skill, that Chinese Team may aswel of just sat down and let manchester run some drills! in conclusion i think ManUre’s “tour” was litterally a tour!!! they cant of gained anything from this summer, where as chelsea have started to realize that working and pushing themselves even in pre-season will pay off dividends when the new season starts and we are in perfect shape! bring on UTD, Bring on the Leage and Bring on the CUPS!!! ITS IN THE BLOOD!!!!
14. Danski Blue
also look at the ManUre celebrations, they know how easy the game has been they dont even batter an eye-lid as they strole past the chinese wonders!!!! Pitiful choice of games from a “major” club
15. Giridhar
Hey, BC did you watch the liverpool vs the South china game… There was a beautiful goal from the South China Skipper. Liverpool should sign him instead of signing up that ketchup Heinze. Thanks for the highligts package.
16. sooraj
Yup……i’m too very much impressed with malouda……
he’s physically very stable and that is very important…..
ofcoz you all will agree if you spend anybit of your time
watchin the blues struggle in the turn of the year……..
feyernood is a very good team…….and i hope royston frenthe plays….to win 3-0 w’d certainly be a present for all of us……
and i totally agree with you…….is it a football game or a stroll in the beach………seems like all manholes are holidayin………
anyway good news for the blues……….

I’m getting a little peeved off with everyone banging on about beautiful football, if we won the champions league without playing beautiful football then you lot would soon stop with the beautiful football, (if you people want beautiful football then go support ManU)!!!
Thats the robben i know in the vid…..and that was a while ago which means at full potential hes killer. But the team as i notice can only get the most out of the individual players when “beautiful” football is played. Lets hope thats what we see in the upcoming games. Blue4lyfe
