WHOA WHOA WHOA… We are all blue fans here, whether we love JM and his football or not. Constrain yourselves and be respectful guys, you’re fighting like you’re Barca/Real fans… Cut it out. continue the discussion properly, concentrating on the football, and not on one another for goodness’ sake. It’s like a kindergarten dispute!
Joeblue, to follow up on what I was saying, we clearly had much more on our plate than those teams, as you must agree. At the time all these matches took place, we were still fighting for all 4 trophies, with every single match extremely important, and every week with 1, maybe two tough matches. Now let me see… Arsenal were not even fighting for a CL spot, they were safely fighting with Loserpool for 3rd/4th… Valencia was out of the La Liga race, effectively… Only cared about Europe, and the Spurs… If you recall who was playing defence that game, you’ll be sure that’s not under a normal situation that we concede three to the spurs. And mind you, I didn’t point these games out to say we had a great season. All I said was that we had heart and were the gutsiest team in the world, and these comebacks showed what truly shined and made our football entertaining last year. It was our never-die, off-the-canvas will to win, and we never, ever had that before JM. Say what you will about him but would Raineri have dealt with such a horrific season in injuries and lack of cover as well as JM?? Would any manager in the world?? Maybe one or two, but not too many. Like it or not, we have one of the top five managers in the world.
And don’t tell me “Raineri would never have had the problem of cover to begin with…” JM’s hand was forced when it came to the defence, and our major problem of the season, as I recall, had nothing to do with JM’s “ineptness in the transfer market.” As I recall in a game against Reading, Cech was plowed into and nearly died, and shortly thereafter, our only capable replacement Cudicini was also injured. Hilario played alright, for a third goalkeeper. But it just is not in his blood, if you will.
You can’t expect Jose to sign THREE world class goalies, that’s a waste of money and talent. Now Cudicini was terrific, and was the only one we needed. My point is, JM made the right decision with the GK, yet it ended up costing us a lot. So, the circumstances of last season were not FULLY JM’s fault. I admit, he was a bit stubborn playing Lamps and Ballack simultaneously, which wasn’t too effective, but overall, he was FORCED to play the diamond and therefore a reduced flashy/stylish brand of football. And even when we have a full healthy squad, we aren’t Barca, but we are a lot better than we were.
And this year we’ll be even better. Malouda’s going to help, and the probable improvement of Kalou, Sheva, and SWP will as well. Oh, and a healthy Joe Cole and Robben… can’t forget them. I’m sure you’ll agree, Manish and Joe… this year’s looking up, and JM’s not as big a devil as you’ve painted him to be.
